Weā€™ll Invite Something In by @smc-27 (book-verse)
@dot524: This is a fandom favorite and for good reason. In this canon divergence AU, Alex is President, Henry is out, and they never got together in their 20s. Instead, they encounter each other in their late 30s and a very different type of relationship ensues. They still hide it at first, but thereā€™s a lot of living that they both have done and need to work through. I really enjoyed the character dynamics here and how the premise changed both Alex and Henry, making them bolder and more mature. Definitely read this one!
Eyes Blue, Like the Atlantic by bleedingballroomfloor (book-verse)
@dot524: A Titanic AU! Adapted by an excellent writer, this one has suspense, action, romance, and intrigue. There is a MCD (Main Character Death) in here and some other tags to be aware of, but also vibrant scenes with dancing, chasing, art, and formal wear. I really enjoyed it!
Clean Slate by @smc-27 (book-verse)
@heysweetheart-writes: This was just so excellent. I devoured it in no time, couldn't put it down. I love the way Alex just slips into Henry's life like a silk glove even though Henry has his hesitations. There's abslutely no angst at all other than "you're too young for me" "no, next question" I love it. I love Henry finally feeling young for the first time. I think that is something that Henry generally feels after meeting Alex, like he's never been able to, no matter at what point in life he is. ANYWAY I'm talking about Henry way too much again for a rec. Read this.
Most People Exist by @sprigsofviolets (book-verse)
@na-dineee: Henry, 30, is a nurse on a cancer ward. From the very first moment he feels an intense connection and attraction to his newest patient, the one who has a brain tumor and is named Alexander Claremont-Diaz. - The tags say it all: "Falling in love, Slow Burn, Angst with a happy ending, Hurt/Comfort". After reading this story I am a whole new person. I laughed and cried, had butterflies in my stomach, I felt it all. Hands down one of the best fics I've ever read!
after hours by @dumbpeachjuice (book-verse)
@na-dineee: How much can happen in a few hours? stutteringpeach: Hold my beer. šŸ˜…šŸ¤ Reading this was truly a roller coaster ride, my stomach was doing somersaults non-stop: On his last evening in New York, poet Henry meets bartender Alex and the two spend the night together - in true "Before Sunrise" style. To sum it all up: enchanting, sweet, phenomenal, iconic!
No. 1 (Royal Red and Blue) Oil on Canvas by @captainjunglegym (book-verse)
@zwiazdziarka: This fic is so twisted and surprising in the best way! The summary did not prepare me for all the action that comes after the initial relationship drama and I'd really like to fawn over it some more but I don't want to spoil the fun of figuring out what really is going on and what are characters' motivations. Just give it a try.
Meet the Parents (series) by @14carrotghoul (book-verse)
@dot524: I really enjoyed these thoughtful character studies of Ellen and Oscar. The two short stories are a series of canon vignettes from Oscar and Ellenā€™s POV. These glimpses of the Claremont-Diaz parents add heart and depth to the RWRB canon, giving insight about how Ellen and Oscar think about parenthood, power, family, and each other.
Leave The World Better Than You Found It: A BONES AU by @treluna4 (book/movie-verse)
@myheartalivewrites: I really enjoyed this FirstPrince meets procedural TV show fic! With Alex as Booth and Henry as Brennan, they learn to work together, solve crimes--and fall in love, of course. Plus take down a very satisfying book villain.
No Laughing Matter by @inexplicablymine (book-verse)
@suseagull04: This fic is absolutely hysterical- a must read if you need something to cheer you up! It's also very relatable for anyone who, like me, has said things they've regretted in all the best ways!
in summer air by @acdsbff (book-verse)
@na-dineee: I need a vacation and vitamin D - maybe that's why this series (both POVs are covered šŸ„°) captivated me so much?! It is set on a Greek island, where Alex, just cheated on by his boyfriend, meets hotel owner Henry. What follows is a whirlwind speedrun romance against a beautiful backdrop. Really therapeutic for the heart on dreary days!!
here is a map (with your name as a capital) by @alasse9 (book-verse)
@dot524: What an incredible surprise to have this entire 50k story drop at once. In this canon divergent story, Alex and Henry start getting to know each other in Rio, when Alex helps him recover from a panic attack. Their friendship, and later their relationship, is a delightful slow burn with funny moments, heartbreak, and steady support of each other. I thoroughly enjoyed this start to finish ā€” the characterization of both Alex and Henry is on point and I really enjoyed how the writer changed some of the scenes from the book while keeping key callbacks. A delight.
Claremont 2008 by @happiness-of-the-pursuit (book-verse)
@suseagull04: This friends to lovers AU is done so well! Having Henry and Alex meet as kids means we get years of their friendship before they even start dating, and it gives every aspect of their relationship so much depth through this entire fic. It also gives some events only referenced in the novel a completely different perspective, which makes them even better!
keep me in the moment (don't it feel so real?) by @anincompletelist (book-verse)
@heysweetheart-writes: I absolutely love everything that comes out of Sarah's magic little fingers and this was no exception. Alex and Henry are best friends and pinning over eache other unknowingly and an accidental lil discovery turns their relationship upside-down (for the better) absolutely recommended. I honestly loved it so much.
you know i can't be found with you by @dumbpeachjuice (book-verse)
@heysweetheart-writes: This was SO much fun. Alex was RELENTLESS and I absolutely love an older Henry. It was also very fucking funny. 10/10
the great duck fiasco by @alexclaremont-diaz (book-verse)
@suseagull04: A spy AU, dating apps, and Alex's Texas roots combine in the funniest way possible- definitely read this if you want a good laugh!

Iā€™m not sure if you write or not but do you have like your own AU of the anime?? Or different storylines and stuff? I do remember you made a different outfit for Serena if Iā€™m remembering correctly so I didnā€™t know if that meant you also have an AU or verse. Also do you have Pokemon youā€™d give the Kalos gang? Iā€™m trying to come up with ideas myself but Iā€™m stuck
Well I was writing in 2013-2014 but I deleted the account at that time, and I just stopped writing during high school and deleted all the ongoing stories from 2014-2015 because I ran out of ideas. In 2016 I made a new account with another fandom, I shared it with another account
In the meantime I did (most based on Amourshipping for obvious reasons) : an OC who was Ash's cousin lol kinda based on me kinda based on an OC wasn't really 100% one self insert, she was a character with her own personality, his own OC and several readers and crossovers in between, oh yes the characters who made ship "war" conflict were all OCs, I've never had an anime character be really mean or hateful to each other that's one thing I find funny about myself lol šŸ˜† (I think this was a general idea that I had a lot of work on)
This first story would have a 2nd part where they needed a hero or in this case someone who defeated a government that unified all the villans teams + all
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Originally in the 1st publication the deleted one had 50 chapters and not 46
I didn't know any other sites to publish my posts originally were on Social Spirit
Tumblr media
It's an old Brazilian site, I met many of my favorite authors and friends that I still keep in touch with today through it.
Ah Well I did a lot of Miraculous stories too, but during my school days I couldn't balance full-time classes, writing, and alternative accounts. I wish I had never deleted my first account on this site or I would have a collection I currently don't have.
So pulling this idea together with my PokƩmon reviews I came up with some ideas of recovering this story in a complete rewrite of Kalos, without the additional characters or anything.
Tumblr media
I also had a Palletshipping account šŸ˜† but I had never written anything on it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So in 2018 I tried to get the story back on track and even make one based on Serena being the protagonist this time after the world failed and was remodeled for the "2" part as if they had reached control of the region
I don't know if I should get this back but still, one day who knows...
Anyway I already had, rewriting the story of Mirror Ash, I already wrote an idea of Serena in Hoeen, I already wrote Mirror Ash and Ash as brothers and Pokeshipping and Amourshipping UA, I wrote so many things...so many ideas based on books I read by authors I admired, etc.
Back the actual days...
I'm thinking about starting to get back into my Amourshipping AUs, doing some Pokeshipping AUs, some Palletshipping or Zensho Palletshipping Fanfic, Reguri/Original shipping, Journeyshipping , I might even try some negaishipping one-shorts someday...I just hope I don't have a lot of ideas piling up and don't finish any of them
I've always been fine with Ash being bisexual, but I have to admit that Serena with other relationships besides Ash is only 2022-2023-2024, it was also simply a boost from the weird fights between lgbt and straight pokemon fans of the lol franchise, I've never really cared about reading stories of her with other ships...But when it comes to my writing I always have to put her with Ash in some way if it involves the main anime, It could be my first idea as alternative versions of Ash, it could be polyship, it could just be a crush or the character that gives a boost to the main ship of other stories she always has to be there somehow
Then there's the fact that Amourshipping Yuri/Yaoi came into my life but I never really thought much about writing something Ashley/Serena I just didn't know how to adapt it - even though my mind wanted some alternate universe in 2016 was when I started getting into male Marinette/Female Adrien versions (so I was too busy with these specific ideas to create another one)
My main problem has always been too many good ideas and no organization as you can see it lol
Hmm, I really don't know how to explain my UAs because my ideas are a complete mess and I don't have much confidence in my English to start writing them in another language other than my own.
Oh yes what you saw was a failed attempt to create a new outfit for my Kalos rewrite it's the only one I'm working on at the moment āœØ At least I intend to translate I don't think I will write all my work in English But if anyone wants any of the stories in Portuguese that I write besides the ones I translate, just let me know.

Forget Me Not
Characters/Pairings: established Malia/Lydia/Reader (Quim), Malia, Lydia, Scott, Stiles, lots of snow, and I never say it but the literal yeti.Ā
Tumblr media
Summary: Amnesia makes the mind go brrr, but in a bad way...brr (sad). [This not being a published imagine for my followers means I can mess with the summary and other info as much as I want. XD]
Word Count: 5.9k
Notes: I am using a sideblog that is empty and not tagging bc this is only for your eyes (hopefully and technically the gif makerā€™s...thank you @ gifmaker for the gif), so no need to reblog/like, etc.
Hope you enjoy and it gives you a boost for dealing with your aunt. :-)
I wrote this around October 11th 2019, so apologies about the style not being quite as fluid as my other writing. My other stuff is a bit more recent, if you maybe wanna read it. Most of my teen wolf phase was around here and then it re-sparked in 2020 towards the fall so I added a tiny bit to that one story I told you about with the warnings.Ā
Also, apologies for the ending, lol. >.>
- - - - -
She is cold... So cold. It feels like a slab of ice is being used for a bed; her back aches all the way down to the individual vertebrae that compose her spine. Pain is slowly causing her other senses to return, enlivening them in cruel way so feeling anything means to hurt to some degree. A whooshing sound makes it hard to think, it rips across her mind dashing the thoughts that slowly trickle in through the haze and the ache. What happened...? Whipping wind continues to bear down on wherever here is. There is hardness under her, so she is probably on the ground and outside based on the frigid temperature. Moving an arm to check the hypothesis causes pain to lance through her shoulder so sharply a feeling of vertigo sets in. The firm ground suddenly tilts slightly. The leverage is increased almost mockingly, it edges up bit by bit like she is about to be slid off a cold metal tray to join the next batch of suffering. A choked whimper leaves her at the odd sensation of slipping. Just before the final plummet, she snaps back into herself viciously. Jolting does nothing good for her body, but now her eyes snap open with a slight burn as if they were sealed shut previously with chilled glue...At least she thinks they are open. Blinking confirms that her eyelids still function, which is good because she is trying not to think about how her arms and legs are not, though she can still mostly feel them. Everything is white. A flurry of white is all she sees after staring long enough to detect movement in what was thought to be a static image. Snow from what may be an impending blizzard continues to beat down on the surroundings, coating them in freezing rain, smatterings of hail, and ice. Why isn't she buried yet...? How long has she been here? A large conglomerate of flurries landing on her cheek causes her to wince, because it will not melt for a time, but the question remains. The left side of her face is stinging brutally, while the rest of her exposed skin only feels like a wind chap is starting to set in. Frowning makes it seem like there is something frozen to her skin; the downward curl is not reaching the left corner of her lips as if they are stuck. Is there something on her face? Staring blankly at the sky is not helping any of this make sense. Turning her head a miniscule amount causes her to feel sick, so she stops, trying to breathe evenly although the slight shaking is making it difficult. Being still is not an option, but the jolts of pain makes her wish it was. Evergreen trees were glimpsed in her peripheral vision; they looked towering and dark, not all fit for a happy Christmas. Woods plus winter with injuries does not sound good. Why is she even here? Working up the will power to try and get up is not something she has even entertained, since moving a single appendage hurt way too much. The snow fall is becoming less like the interior of a cheap snow globe and more like sheets of rain are freezing and then coating the forest solidly. Her right arm is no longer visible. Maybe getting under a tree would provide some protective covering? Don't get up, just shuffle. She can do that. Her feet ache in a disconcerting way like they fell half asleep. Digging her heels into whatever frozen packed dirt or snow is under her takes a few minutes, but little divets were clumsily formed. Now, she just has to leverage it. Her left arm is tucked close after what happened when she moved it. Shakily drawing her legs up again allows her to try and push back slowly, more so scrambling a few inches than moving back with purpose. Sliding against snow should be easy. The rocks and sticks that litter the ground seem to dig into her when she attempts the awkward dragging motion that causes a pull of tension across her body.
It hurts. "Fuck, fuck, fuck," she mumbles hoarsely. Anger at not knowing why, where, or what lead to this prompts the pain signals to be ignored, instead she attempts to continue the mutilated crab walk back. Powdery snow sticks to the black of her pants with less finding purchase on the plastic shell of the navy jacket. A bit of red is spotted in the snow, but checking for the source of bleeding is secondary to getting away from the flurries. A trail of blood spottily forms from where she started to where she has hauled herself to. She is practically panting, which causes the cold air to stab her lungs like multiple knifes each time a ragged breath is drawn in. Her movements become out of sync, bordering on frantic. Less than a few meters of progress has been made... A foot digging in is mistimed with the curl of her back and placement of her arm, so that the stretch wracks through her painfully. A gasp muffles the cry of pain. She ends up off balance, crashing to her side heavily. Snow forces her to reflexively turn her head slightly to the side, but she still feels it burning in a way only ice can against her cheek. Throbbing stemming from her left temple encapsulates her head in a vice and is likely what makes the white dance with undulating blots of black for a while until her vision slowly clears back up. She could just rest and then try again. Maybe she should just close her eyes... Lean back and try to conserve warmth until the effort to move again seems possible. A cat nap could work? She tried and is tired; it's deserved. A sudden shrill howl barely stirs her, but a primal part of her mind urges her to become slightly more alert. That kind of sound belongs to a predator. Laying semi-buried in the snow with the inability to move may as well be an open invitation for dinner to whatever can survive the harsh conditions of the forest; it is probably a wolf or something canine. The tree line is watched between too slow blinks for whatever just made that noise. Nothing happens... She didn't imagine it. The cold has penetrated her gloves, it has penetrated her to the very center of her being, but fingers weakly search for something of use. A large rock? A stick? A phone? A conveniently placed gun? There is nothing she can use for defense, so her right arm stops extending outwards from her side to come to rest with her useless left one. Guarding her vital organs may at least help a little... Another howl sounds, but this one sounds deeper and echoes across the space; it sounds low, haunting, and mournful. There is more than one... They could play tug-a-war with her.Ā  She can barely make it to a tree for makeshift shelter, so climbing one to impede them locating her is also a 'no'. No weapon or means to deter the animal was magically found in the snow. The state she is in is yet another limitation, because she could not fend one off in perfect health either. ...What does she do?Ā  A short yip sounds like an announcement that her time to wrack her weary mind for a solution has trickled away. The source of the sound is located immediately as a small wolf with large, rounded ears makes a bee line for her. She vaguely thought it would have white fur or maybe a light gray, but a tawny brown sticks out against the snowy surroundings and looks distinctly out of place; it should be in a rich pine forest with browns and greens. Mentally critiquing the animal is not what she should be doing. Fear laced adrenaline causes her to clench her right fist tightly as she attempts to shift upwards to appear less proneā€”less weak. Gathering snow in her palm is so she has something to throw, even if a snow ball is a poor choice against a predator. The animal skids to a stop a little ways away, raising its head towards the sky to scent the air. Is it smelling her blood and judging that she is easy prey?
Teeth grit at the thought, because she has no idea about wolves or whatever dog thing this is. Could noise scare it away or only incite it further? How do you deter a canine? Looking it in the eye may be taken as a challenge or as a warning, but she still stares into its' eyes sharply, trying to project an intimidating aura as she narrows her own. The little quakes racking her paired with the fact she is on her back does not make her cut an imposing figure. A slow step forward is taken as the small wolf lowers its body more to the ground; it must be savoring how easy a kill this will be. Her arm draws back in warning. Will the wolf call her bluff and edge closer? "Go away," she seethes, knowing that saying something to it is a lost cause, but it is eyeing her oddly for an animal, almost thoughtfully. Lunging for her throat or springing forward to pounce should have occurred by now. Why isn't it attacking? Ears fall back, almost dropping at the tone, rather than being pressed flat against the skull in anger. Another step forward is taken and then another, until the wolf is close enough that she thinks she can hit it...The snowball is poorly compacted and falls apart, but some of it lands on its fur, which causes the wolf to shake its head at the action, giving a disgruntled chuff at the coldness.Ā  ...Did she expect that to go any better in her head? No. But it was her only real projectile. The wolf does something unexpected, it sits down like a dog and stares at her with those too human eyes. The forest in summer again comes to mind; a rich hazel that borders on brown like wood bark aside from the lightness around the iris is trained on her. She glares right back. Maybe its not a wolf, because it looks small and lean with a body that seems more agile than powerful. A long snout reminds her of a fox, and those ears that are still down are not really that wolf like either, too floppy... Maybe it's a special breed to this area or something else, not that it matters when it definitely has vicious claws, sharp teeth, and she can't get away. A decision must have been made as it creeps closer with tentative footfalls that barely displace the snow. Her arm is pinwheeled to kick up the remaining snow at her side at it in a last ditch effort for distance, but it keeps coming closer heedless of the weak icy barrage. The coolness likely does not seep through its thick fur. "Stop! Please, just go back!" She raises her voice sharply, distilling a hardness to her tone that causes the near hyperventilating quality of her breathing to abate for a moment as she tries to issue a command to a wild animal. Surprisingly, the wolf does halt its progress, but what it does next has her trying to get away as if the promise of being eaten was only a slight offense. Hazel just flashed a brilliant, glowing electric blue that seemed to pierce through her. Its an unnatural wolf thing. There may be worse things than death. Scrambling away using both hands and legs was a mistake, one that was made more than once as she groans. Her jaw locks like a steel trap as she continues, now on her stomach rather than side to crawl away. Tears feel momentarily warm against her frozen cheeks, before causing the burning to redouble from the wind. Everything hurts. She claws desperately at the snow, trying to get away, because there is no explanation for what she just saw or how odd the creature is in general. Her vision seems to be becoming the view used for wide screen movies; darkness creeps around the edges. She is struggling to make sense of things other than the need to move away, because that creature goes against the natural order.
Its too intelligent, it knows too much. Those eyes. It won't just kill her... Something grabs a fistful of her jacket, tugging backwards to prevent the flagging forward motion. It must have a mouthful of her jacket. She kicks out. Her legs feel like lead weights that she only has a minor degree of control over and no contact was made with a furry body, instead only the inevitable collision back with the hard ground occurs. The additional jolt is nothing compared to the rest of the pain that is maddening at this point, because the adrenaline rush is failing at dampening it. Her actions are catching up with her. An angry sob leaves her when she inelegantly falls face first in the snow. Her arms are shaking and she can't support herself anymore while also resisting the wolf. The grip on her jacket is suddenly replaced by a clamping sensation on her shoulder. There is no tearing or teeth burrowing. What feels like fingers squeeze her shoulder, until another hand is placed flatly on her back. What the Hell? What. The. Fuck. Being turned over slowly causes her to whimper; her eyes screw shut because nothing makes sense and she hates it all. Fighting has gotten her nowhere. Something warm settles on her cheek, and she should look to see what is going on, but she is too cold and tired to care. The whipping wind gains an additional sound, though she can't process what it is except that is softer and more pleasing to the ear. A voice? No, that isn't possible. The falling sensation comes again; this time she does not try and stay upright or grounded against it, allowing herself to go along with it. She gives up. . . . . . . "-the blizzard is only increasing; it took out the power lines. We can't go out in that." "You can't, but I can." A dull bang sounds like someone hit something wooden with their fist. "We can't!" This is half shouted in clear exasperation that may be hiding anger. "Losing anyone else isn't an option, ok? I want to know where he is too, but you can't see, smell, or even hear when it's this bad out, and we don't know what is out there that did that to her. You're not thinking it through, Scott." "He's a part of the pack." Listening to the argument unfolding any further is prevented when warm fingers graze her neck. She stops playing possum. Her eyes snap open to meet startled green ones that reminds her of emerald gemstones. A strawberry blonde girl is sitting on the burgundy upholstered couch she lays on, and may just be checking her pulse, but her right hand wraps tightly around her wrist just in case the action is not so innocent. Only a cursory glance is given to the surroundings, since she feels on edge. Where is she? A ski lodge... Thick wooden logs make up the walls, though it is hard to tell how large the space is when only candle light provides light. She does spot the underside of the A-line architectural support that is made of exposed beams. A few mounted deer heads leer at her with glassy black eyes. One wall boasts a large crackling stone fire place that has ancient crossed ski poles above it as a decoration; this is the main source of warmth and brightens the large 'U' of couches that could fit a dozen or more comfortably. This must be a lobby, not a home, based on the few informational areas and posters she saw. Was she out skiing? Returning her attention to the girl has her pausing, because she is being watched so closely, but there may be fear to that gaze too. Pale skin seems to lack much color, even though the fire is casting warmth on both of them and making the red to her hair more vibrant. Her grip is not that tight, and she was touched first, so why is she being looked at like that? Releasing the hold after moving those probing fingers away occurs; she did not mean to frighten her... "She's up! Thank God." The sudden announcement breaks the silent stare off. A guy with spiked brown hair dashes over to the couch alongside a taller guy with black hair that is somewhat obscured by a beanie. These were the two who were arguing. She simply observes them, unwilling to be the first one to speak, because she has no clue how she got here and would rather not be at a deficit by admitting that. Letting them do the informing is a smart move. "We set your arm back in place, but you may need surgery for the cuff," Stiles explains, coming to kneel beside the couch. Soft brown eyes sweep over her form that has less snow and blood caked on it; however, he is still worried about the injuries, especially when they only have a small first aid kit and makeshift sling on hand. "We bandaged what we could. Also, you will probably need a CT scan because your head has a crack in it like Humpty Dumpty. We will figure it all out, Quimmie." He seems pretty caring, so she nods stiltedly in agreement for him to continue speaking. The taller one, who must be Scott, draws closer, fiddling with a walkie talkie in his hand, before sighing. She waits for him to muster up the will to speak. "I know you're hurting, and I'm sorry, but where is Liam?" Once one question is asked it seems that it breaks the dam so a deluge of them come forward as his dark brown eyes narrow at the faint popping of static that comes from the device. There has not been a check-in in a while. "What happened to your team? Was it the ridge that you investigated or did it come after you on a trail? Were the hikers right, and it's just a crazed wolf or something else?" "You can't ask her all that at once." "Stiles, the temperature is dropping further and he is still out in it." "Yeah, and she just woke up, Scott. So back off." A hand finding her own diverts her focus from another brewing argument between the two. Fingers interlace with her own one at a time with a gentleness that confuses her after how hard everything else has been, so she doesn't immediately resist it. A pinky edges over the row of her digits until her hand is covered and then a hold is formed that she does not return. The question must be evident on her features, because a sad smile of understanding is given; it looks like the girl is trying not to crumble, which she accomplishes, but the underlying cracks are still there for all to see. What did she do to be looked at like that?Ā Ā  "Malia is right..." Stiles practically rounds on both of them, knocking his knees against the edge of the couch at the softly spoken statement. "No, Lyds," he disagrees immediately, before locking eyes with impassive (Y/E/C) that watch him, but do not really take him in or express much emotion. He thought it was from the pain and shock, not because... "What is my name?" "Stiles," she answers correctly, because it was spoken already.
"Scott said it earlier," Lydia points it out calmly.Ā  Stiles runs a hand down his face, not wanting to test the theory that Malia suggested because of what it could mean, but he also knows he needs to. There is a reason the werecoyote is listening from behind the couch and not present with the rest. The earlier fear towards her cut her to the bone. Explaining it away as confusion or discombobulation did not convince Malia, who he tries to not glance directly at, even though he can see the glowing blue to her eyes, because this is upsetting to her. He balls his hands into fists; it can't be that. "What school do we all go to?" She says nothing, but wishes the couch cushions would absorb her into it. "What does our dad do for a living?" He asks it more sharply at the silence that seems to say more than any answer could. No, no, no. A hand is placed on the edge of the couch to keep balance as he sinks to his knees, rather than kneel; he meets her eyes squarely. "Come on, try and answer."Ā Ā  Her brows furrow at this, because she does not look particularly like him for them to be blood related. His features are mentally compared to what she intuitively knows to be her appearance. The skepticism is not voiced.Ā  Being stared in outright disbelief by Stiles makes it clear that anything she could say about the situation would make it worse. "What is your name? Where are we from? What is the year? Who is she-" A hand gestures quickly to Lydia, though he quickly unfolds his fingers so he is not rudely pointing at her, but his palm shakes, "-to you? Malia, come over here and-" "Stiles." Lydia's voice holds a firm warning as she places a hand on his shoulder, pushing him slightly away from the couch edge before he looms closer. She scoots to be blocking his stare that practically tears into them with its desperate edge. He probably does not even realize he was raising his voice, almost shouting out each question so it warped into a demand. "Don't push her; it's not her fault." "She isn't saying anything!" Stiles counters. "It wouldn't be what you all want to hear..." That causes the pack to grow quiet for a moment as they each consider the matter of fact statement. "So, what? You were just going to go along with it?" Scott asks, confused. The realization that they have no idea what they are facing or how Liam is doing also weighs on him in addition to how this amnesia will affect the pack. Did they just lose two friends tonight? He sits down heavily on the coffee table, shooting Malia a sympathetic look to try and silently communicate she needs to dim down. "There are five of you and one of me, not great odds, so-" "We aren't going to hurt you." The vehement interjection causes her to reword the point, though green eyes practically blaze as they meet her own; any of that fear has burned away, replaced with conviction. "I don't know anything about anything," she admits softly, glancing at the red and black plaid blanket draped over her legs to cope with so many people staring at her. Her head still aches and this is tiring. "Waiting to see what you had to say was the logical thing to do. I don't know your intentions, but I wasn't going to lie to you. Thanks for helping me out of the snow..." "That was Malia," Scott supplies automatically. She has the feeling that none of the ones in the seating area is this Malia person, so a nod is given. Stiles rises from the stone floor, trying to figure out how to fix the situation. This is no broken bone that can be set or a cut that needs to be stitched up; her memories are not murky or mixed up, but are completely gone. "Can you please tell us what you do remember?" "Why?"
"So we can help you and our other friend." Scott answers honestly, before Stiles losses the bit of composure he just re-gained. He is in older, adopted brother mode and is obviously upset. "We can answer your questions too." "I didn't say I had any..." "You don't know anything, so you should. Unless being amnesiac is how you want to reinvent yourself before senior year." Stiles snipes, but backs off when his best friend gives him a warning look that does not compare to the one he will get from Lydia and Malia, if he keeps pressing it. He is mad at what happened not her...But she is not acting like his adopted sister, who has been with him for years, but someone else entirely. Fingers pull at the worn tassels of the blanket for a moment as she considers the alternatives, turning them over in her head given how tense things are and her own deficit. They did help her, so being difficult is not her goal. She can't shake that there is something not quite right about them, especially Scott, it makes her feel on guard like there is a potentially hidden deadliness. Why are they in an empty ski lodge? The owners should be present or at least the other customers. She is mostly laying down aside from a pillow that elevates her back, sitting upright would put them more on equal terms, but the pain that will come with moving is considered. "Okay, one quick question: why are you all here alone? This place does not seem to be in operation, so did you break in...?" Scott shares a look with Stiles. Telling the full truth would only work with someone acquainted with the supernatural and all of that must have been wiped away too. He runs his hands down his thighs to stall. "We got, er, permission to come up. There's an unsolved mystery that we are trying to crack. The resort is temporarily closed down, because of it and the blizzard..." He trails off, trying to balance the truth with the lies. "We are trying to help." "You do seem the helpful type," she observes dubiously, before crossing her right arm carefully with her sling encased left. The position helps her feel a bit more distant from their prying eyes; it feels like they are judging her, though that makes sense when she is expected to actually be someone, not a blank slate. She turns her attention to the fire. "I don't know a Liam. I don't know why we were on a team or what our objective was. All I remember is snow: white, cold, burning snow. I was on the ground trying to get up, but failed because everything ached. I actually felt like I was falling..." She presses her lips together, mulling over what else can be said. Those glowing, unnaturally blue eyes come to mind so vividly, it feels like she is staring at the creature again. They probably already think she is crazy enough without mentioning it. "There was a wolf, or maybe it wasn't a wolf, that kept coming towards me. I assumed it would maul me, but it didn't...I'm not sure how it was going to kill me, it seemed too patient and smart, not really like a typical animal. I freaked out and tried to crawl away when it got too close, which made all the pain a lot worse. I fainted. I'm assuming Malia scared it off or dealt with it, because I think I would remember it biting into me...Then I woke up here." Lydia wants to reach out to her, but prevents the urge with how previous attempts were received. She can tell that she is still struggling with the pain on top of everything else; however, the far off look in her eyes must mean something is not being voiced. They still have not shared her name...
"Okay, so everything before the snow is blank?" Stiles confirms, getting a curt nod in response that makes him want to throw something into the flames of the fireplace. This is not how the weekend's mission was meant to go. He is pacing in front of the hearth, chewing on the cap end of a pen as he thinks about where to go from here. She was also their only lead with Liam and the creature. How will his dad react? He's older--the older sibling, and feels responsible for her, and now she's a very familiar stranger..."You're sure that's it? So like an hour or so comprises your entire, new existence?" "Yes, Stiles." He ignores the slight irritation to her tone, because he is busy thinking. "Maybe we can jog her memory?" This is posed to the pack, like his sister is another murder case or mystery that he can add to his pin and red string laden board to puzzle out the connections and causes. He can solve this. "We should wait until my mom sees her and the doctors run legit tests. There may be rules on how to deal with head trauma patients," Scott disagrees gently. "Maybe the head trauma is not the cause...It could be something else?" "She is still healing and we don't know how bad everything is." Scott sees the way Stiles crosses his arm abruptly at the disagreement, annoyed. "I want to help her. We need to find Liam too." "The answer could lie with her if we just try and remind her who she is!" "That could make it worse." Lydia is unsure who she sides with between the two guys, but knows talking about the one in question like she is not present in the room is almost always a bad idea. Malia getting up from the wooden chair that was pulled from behind the receptionist's to rest behind the couch is mostly ignored. Supple leather comprises her winter boots that only make a faint clack against the wood floor. She moves purposefully, ignoring Lydia's questioning look as she rounds the couch and stands in front of it to peer down at its occupant. The lack of recognition causes her to feel a deep ache in her heart, while the early fear left a ragged wound behind. Taking a knee, she tilts her head slightly as she watches (Y/E/C) eyes look her over cautiously, rather than softly, because the one in front of her does not know her. "Uhm, thank you for saving me?" Malia ignores the tentative gratitude. "Malia, I-" Scott's concerned warning is stopped short when Stiles holds up a hand, silently asking for him to let whatever is about to happen unfold. He locks his jaw, knowing how affected his beta was when she arrived back at the lodge. She was practically incoherent in describing what happened, instead whimpering and growling when anyone got too close to the two and unwilling to let go of the one bundled up in her arms. She was more coyote than human... Scott slides to the very edge of the coffee table to intervene, if needed, as a precaution. She looks kind of angry...Hazel eyes are not nearly as searching as the green ones that were first on her, rather they seem to be invasively prying without hesitation. The shoulder length cut to her brown locks frames her face nicely, which makes her gaze that much harder to look away from. Being stared at like some sort of freak show is grating on her patience, so she eventually manages to glance away to look back at the fire, though her view is soon occupied by Malia shifting closer with a challenging look. A lightly tanned hand rests on the back of the couch, effectively caging her in. "If you have something to say, then please go ahead," she requests calmly. "How could you forget about me?"
"It wasn't a choice." "Then why aren't you remembering?" Malia almost snaps out the question. A scoff almost leaves her at the presumption, because this girl is really blaming her...Are they all placing the fault on her alone? Maybe the inkling that something is not right with some of them is because they are actually a threat; the lodge is becoming more inhospitable by the second.Ā  "I can't. It's not like I'm repressing it," she replies sternly. "I don't know my own name, so it's definitely not personal. Get over yourself." "Quim. That is your name" Lydia offers, trying to mediate between the two, though she knows this is hard for Malia. It is hard for her too, but someone has to be on Quim's side as a source of support. "Oh, okay..." Fingers burrow deeply into the upholstery of the couch, nails threaten to extend and rip out the plush stuffing. Her coyote aspect howls in her mind. Malia grits her teeth against the hurt those words just stirred, trying to let anger mask it because she would have never thought this would happen to them. This is not how it should be. Relying on instinct, she surges forward, placing a hand firmly over Quim's heart to pin her in place as she joins their lips without asking for permission. She is her's, so she should not have to. The kiss is forceful, demanding and not at all how a kiss should be...It is also one sided. She is doing all the action, while her partner is frozen and unresponsive, though that stasis eventually breaks for Quim to turn her head away abruptly, before a hand is against her shoulder, pushing away. Trying to move away from Malia causes a sharp pull in her back that earns a wince. Fucking oww. "What the hell are you doing?!" "I was trying to jog your memory!" Malia counters. "You can't just kiss people!" "We've done way more than kiss, Quim!" That causes the indignation to leave her in a rush, making the anger feel unwieldy and too large for her to handle. She retracts her hand from Malia, re-crossing her arms as best she can to serve as a barrier between the two of them. Now, she is more confused. "What...?" "Maybe now isn't the time for this..." Scott attempts to reason with his beta. "Mal-" "My soulmate forgot me!" "Not on purpose." Lydia pipes up, earning a huff from the werecoyote, but at least she is listening to her. She links their hands to try and pull Malia away from the couch edge. "We need to be patient." "How are you handling this well? She forgot you too--both of us!" "Not. By. Choice." "I have two girlfriends...?" Stiles runs a hand down his face at the turn in conversation; this is not going to fix her memory, but of course that is what his sister takes away from the conversation. "Yes," he answers at the perplexed expression, rolling up his shirt sleeve to show his blank wrist. "Soul identifying marks. Ring any bells? No, well, you have two of them, so you have two soulmates, even though it is rare to have even one. Lucky you."Ā  Oh... Green and hazel eyes no longer meet in a silent, tense stare off, settling back on the occupant of the couch. Quim falls silent under their attention, unsure what could be said when forgetting your literal fated other halves.

Le Charivari (which could maybe be translated as the Shivaree, a type of mocking parade) was a satirical newspaper whose anti-monarchist owners often faced government censorship (see for example, Charles Philipon & his contribution to the Louis-Phillipe pear lore)Ā Ā
Le Charivari Ā also published the above caricatures of V Hugo byĀ HonorĆ© Daumier, including flower crown Hugo and regularly published the work of AmĆ©dĆ©e de NoĆ©/Cham, whose satire of Les MisĆ©rables Iā€™d really like to write about.Ā
Anyways, it makes sense then that they would take a dim view to the censorship of LM, as outlined in the article below.Ā
ALSO, I am only just now realizing that this production was the same year as the Exposition Universelle of 1878.Ā
Le Charivari, 25 March 1878
Who among us does not remember the profound and immense sensation that Les MisĆ©rables caused under the Empire?Ā
Thanks to the odious involvement of censorship and an arbitrary act as monstrous as it was petty, a silence was imposed on the theaters, quieting the great voice of Victor Hugo, who dominates the smallness of his persecutors by the height of his genius.Ā Ā
But the book escaped from the imperial Javerts. How does one justify in the eyes of Europe a ban that would have hit the novel of the sublime exile? They backed off. And Les MisĆ©rables appeared.Ā
In the rue de Seine, at the doors of the editor Pagnerre, there was a veritable riot of admiration. That admiration, in aggrandizing the poet of Les ChĆ¢timents, belittled his unrelenting enemies. They had to put things in order.Ā
So when Charles Hugo, having adapted a play from his fatherā€™s work, requested the necessary authorization for that play to be shown in Paris, the veto, which was for a moment ashamed of itself, hastened to remedy things and so the play of Les MisĆ©rables took the route for Belgium.Ā
It is an honor for the new republic to return the play to France.Ā
The generous and grandiose idea that therefore runs from beginning to end of the glorious masterā€™s career is the idea of recovery, rehabilitation, and forgiveness.Ā
In his untiring concern, he studied all miseries, all physical and moral ugliness, all failures and he said: Have faith and courage.Ā
And he said to society: Do not insult the victims. Hold your hand out to all the repentant.Ā
This idea, which is found everywhere in the prose and verse of Victor Hugo, is found, so to speak, condensed and concentrated by special demonstration in Les MisĆ©rables.Ā
Above all,Ā  what attests to the creative power proven by the illustrious writer in this vast design which is, so to speak, an encyclopedia of charity, is that all the characters that he imagines take on, in the eyes of the reader, a marvelous intensity of life. We donā€™t remember them as characters in a novel but as beings who we have rubbed shoulders with, who we saw ourselves and who we recognize when we encounter them.Ā
Valjean, Fantine, Javert, the ThĆ©nardiers, Gavroche: so many enduring faces.Ā  Like Minerva, as recounted in the fable, these characters sprung forth alive from the brain of their father.Ā
Unfortunately not every one of them could find a place within the strict limits of a single play. The second half of the novel had to be sacrificed.Ā
What is differed is not lost.Ā
As it is, the play at the Porte-Saint-Martin, written by the late Chalers Hugo and by our compatriot Paul Meurice, stirred everyone, even in the entrails of the auditorium where, nevertheless, carefree bon vivants and perhaps also the old remains of political rivalries could not have asked for a better pretext for impotent protests.Ā
The play unfurls majestically, this epic of human suffering, this remarkable symphony of sobs, but we will draw particular attention to the episodes of the Bishop Myriel, of petit Gervais, of the storm beneath a skull, of the criminal court, of Cosette and of Picpus.
It wasnā€™t so much the robust shoulders of Dumaine that carried the weight of the role so much as those of Valjean. His success took on the proportions of triumph after the terrible monologue which you know. A prodigious solo of conscience.Ā
Mlle Jane Essler had to, partially through improvisation, replace Mlle Tallandiera who, in a heartbreaking turn, is perhaps in this very moment playing realistically Fantineā€™s suffering. Mlle Jane Essler makes the character too dark all around. Like in paintings, the dramatic arts require light here and there. She sort of forgot to include it. It was too much monochrome sentimentality. She nevertheless deserved the applause which on several occasions saluted the actress who has been too long off the stage.Ā
. . . [skippingĀ  over some general praise for the rest of the cast]. . .
The drama of Les MisĆ©rables will be for the Porte-Sant-Martin a success that will extend beyond the Exposition. And it will bring justice to the authors at the same time who will profit from the spectators.Ā
It is useful intermediately for a theater to teach in order to counterbalance theater which corrupts.

3, 6, 7, and 30 for the ask game šŸ’›
Tumblr media
AHHHH THANK YOU THANK YOU!! This is my first ever ask so here we go!
3 (Biggest self-insert OC?)
Moth 100%. I've had this oc for years now and they've had alot of growth in the process! Moth went from little baby me in high school making a Sky: Children of the Light oc, to somehow becoming an allegorical shapeshifting reality bending cryptic avatar of my imagination/self consciousness. I love them so much and I put them everywhere. They are truly a guilty pleasure when it comes to my ocs šŸ˜‚
So yeah, whenever you see this gremlin anywhere in the stuff I make just know that it's a little nod from me that what your looking at may not be all it seems and that things are about to get a little crazy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sketch designs for Moth ^^
6 (Do you have any OCs without stories? Will you ever create one for them?)
Hmmm now this is tricky since I love world building and alot of the ocs I make usually just slip right into an already created world OR I just make a whole new world if I like their character enough, and the story for them follows suit. However, I do have some right now that just don't really fit anywhere:
Zuri: (The Flower Child)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My BABY my LOVE my CHILD I love Zuri she is a wholesome lil girl and I want so badly to put her into a story but for the LIFE OF ME I haven't been able to figure out where she goes >:[[
But hopefully I'll figure out something soon >:)
She is a part of a species called the Eeliytes, and the description for the species is as follows:
The Eeliytes (Eels for short), are soft, malleable, highly adaptive, and semi-shapeshifting humanoid creatures that can change their RNA to adapt to basically any circumstance. They can morph their bodies into many different shapes and fit into almost any space (not full shapeshifting more-like how an octopus can change their shape and squeeze into any opening as big as their beak) they can even change their body's temperature and infrared structure to completely avoid temperature and infrared based detection. They are very skilled in harvesting/channeling raw plasma/energy to make and do incredible things (can channel plasma in a way in which humans would describe as magic). They are very carefree and playful in nature and are known for their well-versed scholars and powerful intellect.
Lyla: The Shadow Mother or "Great Shadow"
Tumblr media
ā€œThough my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light; I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.ā€
I've had this old lady around for quite some time! She is one of my first ever ocs (back when I was obsessed with dragons weren't we all) and has stayed with me ever since. She was actually one of my first digital paintings too! Back then I didn't have any layers either so oof there are some parts of it that haven't aged well compared to my digital painting skills now, but honestly I'm still proud of that painting and have Lyla to thank for getting me into what I love!
(I should really do an update digital painting of her sometime)
Funny enough she's always been an enigma since I ever created her, so maybe it just fits her character more that she doesn't really exists anywhere, but I still love her anyways and I'll find some way to include her in stuff (ć£ā—”ā—”ā—”)ć£ ā¤
Rowan: The Soul Warden, "The Boogeyman"

Now this man is also an oldie I've had for a LONG time. I've had him just as long if not longer than Lyla. The difference between him and Lyla, however, is that he CANONICALLY doesn't fit anywhere and he likes it that way. He's a character that exists on the outside of everything, and is more that an observer than an actual character within my stories. Things also get strange when he's around but don't worry he's nice if only a little strict.
I like to think him and Lyla are friends :D
Ayvos: The Natatori Merchant
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ayvos is a more recent character I've made that was actually inspired off of a dream I had! The dream was about a merman swimming around in the ocean with his trusty sack collecting things to sell to others, so I basically made a whole species around him and made him a merchant because of the dream :D
I don't have much for this guy yet, but I recently thought of some really cool outfit ideas for him so I might return to draw him some more, and it would be nice to get this poor man clothed XD
He is a part of a species called the Natatories, and the description for the species is as follows:
The Natatories (Kelpies for short), are usually nomadic, amphibious/marine-like entities who have a body similar to that of a centaur, and are able to control chromatophores within their skin to help them fully camouflage themselves (basically the same way cuttlefish, octopus, or chameleons change their skin color). They are so good at it that they can basically become invisible from any external presence (which they use for hunting/stealth purposes), and sometimes can change their skin to become completely transparent to show off their translucent organs (which they can sometimes use to communicate nonverbally and/or from a long distance). However, they can't change their body's temperature like the Eeliytes can, and therefore can't hide from temperature or infrared detection. They often keep close together in tight-knit herds, and are very powerful hunters, providers, and warriors with a strong code of defending the peace. However, many also take up the trading profession, so some individuals leave their herd and don't stay in one place for two long.
I have a few other ocs like this but I'll stop for now. Lemme know if you guys wanna hear anymore about this stuff cause I would love to share!
7 (What are your favourite relationships between your OCs? (romantic or platonic!))
OH THIS IS A GOOD ONE!! God I could go on forever with this but my favorites have to be found family/domestic family stuff, plus soft/cute relationship stuff and I have just the ocs for it!
-Hunter and Zenir BY FAR are my favorites for this category they're my g/t bois (Hunter is the giant/human and Zen is the human/tiny) and I love them so much. Hunter is just a big soft himbo man and Zen is a small feral warrior who has a special place in his heart for his man šŸ˜ They are just two idiots in love and I would die for them your honor. They are literally the only characters I've ever had aus for but in every single one they fall in love, just for the fact that THEIR LOVE TRANSCENDS REALITY. Tldr I love my g/t gay bois.
-Tomar, Gabby, and Jack are on this list for obvious reasons cause Tomar is a monster goliath-like man who went and just up and adopted two human kids (the siblings Gabby and Jack) and they are so wholesome together Tomar is just the best father oc in the world he's so nice!
Tumblr media
Pic of the goat dad himself with his kids (commission done by @reggie_vermillion on instagram a good buddy of mine I go to college with)
-Leilani and Ogden are another g/t family on this list, I have drawn them before, and I posted the drawing on Tumblr which you can see here, but when I did Leilani was slightly older than when I usually put her at, cause in their main story SHE'S JUST A BABY. Literally, Ogden finds this little baby with no family and just decides to keep her and raise her as his own. This toddler and giant are so soft and cute together I want to draw more of them so badly.
-Melody and Callie are very close runner ups for this category since they are such close friends they are basically siblings. Melody is a human sized bug monster child who is a wholesome lil bean and Callie is a sentient calico mouse who is not afraid of anything. These two are both children and get up to so much chaos together hehehe šŸ˜ˆ
Again I could go on forever with this, if you want to interact with my characters and/or ask questions about them feel free!
Finally 30 (How are you doing? <;3)
I'm doing good! <3
Honestly I've been super busy, especially right now getting prepared for my final senior semester starting soon (still can't believe I'm going to graduate soon šŸ˜µ) and I'm working on a bunch of stuff like work stuff and commissions so I'm just everywhere right now lol. Kind of stressed, HOWEVER this year has been amazing, and mentally I couldn't be better! I found this community this year and it's been so incredible. I can't thank everyone enough with how open and welcoming you guys are! I've done so much this year and I'm very proud of what I've worked on, even though I've felt overworked at times. But! I hope once I'm out of college I'll have much more time to work on the big projects I've been wanting to tackle and interact more with the community!
Again thank you so much anon for asking me my very first ask! How'd I do? Hehehe well this was alot of fun and I'm open for asks anytime :D
Have a nice night everyone and hope to hear from you soon!

INTRO TO ARTHURIANA MASTERPOST
under the cut for absurd length
HOW TO GET STARTED WITH ARTHURIANA
The Arthuriana fandom is very broad and there's no one piece of media, which can be confusing for people just getting into it! Thereā€™s no right way to engage with arthuriana, and no minimum level of knowledge or reading you need to attain to qualify.Ā
The basis of the Arthurian Legend is a body of hundreds of texts written across the medieval and early Renaissance period in dozens of languages and cultural traditions. Which can seem pretty overwhelming, but there are a lot of modern vernacular translations-- you absolutely donā€™t have to learn old French or anything. Iā€™ll go more in depth on where to get started with texts further down.
You also donā€™t have to read texts at all. As I said, there is no minimum basis-- if you prefer to engage with modern adaptations, or want to engage with medieval arthuriana outside of reading texts, that's also cool!Ā
In terms of modern adaptations there is a wealth of choices, which I am very much not an expert in lol, so Iā€™m afraid I canā€™t give much in the way of reccs. Books I have heard good things about are, Exiled from Camelot, Idylls of the Queen, The Buried Giant, the Squire's Tale series, and Gawain by Gwen Rowley (warning that this one is apparently erotica? Good for him). I trust @princesslibsĀ  for modern book reccomendations. and if you speak French Kaamelott is purportedly a very good tv show. Frankly no modern adaptation will ever be better than Spamalot to me, but that's just my personal take.Ā
If you are curious about engaging with texts but (understandably) donā€™t want to read a ton of dense medieval literature, one really cool resource is Norris J Lacy's New Arthurian Encyclopedia, which you can pick up at most used bookstores for under ten bucks. Itā€™s a very thorough easy to look through reference of characters stories and texts. I know a lot of people like the Nightbringer wiki, though I personally am wary of it because it basically never cites sources. Itā€™s a good quick reference though and a lot of people like it, Iā€™d just take it with a grain of salt. Sparknotes also has a lot of summaries of the major texts like Le Morte Dā€™Arthur and the romances of ChrĆ©tien De Troyes. You are not a fake fan for doing this I promise. And of course youā€™re always welcome to send me an ask <3Ā
Finally, getting started with texts. Quick glossary of terms:
--Verse Romance
Ā Ā Ā  A verse (poem) story which can vary a great deal in length. These deal with the adventures of individual knights, usually Gawain, and tend to have a great deal of magical elements and the stereotypical monster slaying, questing, damosel rescuing knight adventures.
--Prose Novel or Romance
Ā Ā Ā  A non poetic narrative, more like a modern novel, more likely to deal with the fall of Arthur, sword in the stone, Mordred, fall of Camelot sort of affair. They are usually quite long. Most famous of these are Le Morte Dā€™Arthur and the French Vulgate, but there are a slew of late medieval Prose novels floating around. Eluding Rey.
--Pseudohistory
Ā Ā Ā  Iā€™m gonna b real these are boring I think. These are, as the name suggests, written as accurate depictions of history.Ā  They very much are not, but they claim to be. Most famous of these is Jeffrey of Monmouth, Mr Jeff Mouth himself, and his History of the Kings of Britain, which I havenā€™t read because it bores me. You can if you want. Itā€™s in Latin. Whatever. These tend to be some of the earliest texts, and include the ā€œlives of saintsā€ stories. Life of Gildas is the only funny one.
--Ballads
Ā Ā Ā  These are only arguably texts, as most of them were written after the time of the ā€œcanonā€ being composed. But I like them. These are songs telling stories, recorded by people like Francis Child and Thomas Percy. They are very short and fun and include stories like The Boy and the Mantle, Kempion, and King Arthur and the King of Cornwall.
--Lai
Ā Ā Ā  A specific type of French verse poem, usually quite short. The most famous collection of lais are those of Marie le France, including things like Bisclavret and Lanval.Ā
--Traditions
Ā Ā Ā  Since Arthuriana was written all over, there are different literary traditions across time and space. The French tradition is one of the most famous, including works like the vulgate, Chretien and a lot of verse romances. The English tradition is one of the most influential on modern adaptations, including the Morte Dā€™Arthur and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. There are also Welsh, German, Dutch, Hebrew, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Tagalog, Greek, Belarussian, Scottish, Irish, Breton, and probably even more. Thereā€™s a lot. Itā€™s very cool and sexy.
A note that there is also a big tradition of Victorian revival Arthuriana. I wrote a starter guide to that here, itā€™s all very fun and like, aesthetic.Ā
Alright, now, which texts do you start with?
If youā€™re a little intimidated by long texts or medieval lit, starting with short verse romances in modern translation is a great place to start. These include Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, which is very good and gay and well known, Lancelot and the Hart With The White Foot, which is very good and gay and underappreciated, or Lanval, which is homophobic but funny.Ā
If you want to start with what is considered the oldest King Arthur Story, Culwch and Olwen is short and fun!
If you want to read about the grail quest, you can start where it started with Story of the Grail or Percival, then the four continuations, Essenbachs Parzival, the vulgate version of the Grail quest which you can buy paperback for like 5 bucks (I can also scan my copy for you just shoot me an ask <3)
If you want to read about the fall of camelot, I have the Vulgate death of Arthur section scanned here. Thereā€™s also the Alliterative and Stanzaic mortes, which are in middle English. I have scanned Simon Armitage's Alliterative Morte translation here. Iā€™m working on my own translation of the Stanzaic but itā€™s not done lol. If you want the first third or so DM me lol. King Artus is very short and readable and itā€™s a Jewish text which is really cool.
If you want to read about Lancelot, ChrĆ©tien de Troyes Lancelot is his first text. He also has a whole long vulgate section, the first part is scanned here by val <3, and there's Lanzelet,Ā  Sebile is in it so itā€™s probably very good. Heā€™s also basically the main character of Le Morte Dā€™Arthur which I might as well talk about here uhm. Itā€™s long and fun in places and boring in others but it does have like the version most modern adaptations take from and tells the whole story of Arthur and Camelot from beginning to end. The Keith Baines version scanned by val is the most readable but it is an abridgement I believe. people who like le morte usually read this version so its probably the best choice lol
If you want to read about Gawain, good news! Heā€™s in basically everything. Even texts that arenā€™t supposed to be about Gawain are doomed to become The Gawain Show Featuring The Protagonist Of This Text As A Sidekick. Which is so funny of him. The Roman Van Walewein is very funny and long and Gawainā„¢. I also recommend, Lā€™atre Perilous, Diu Krone, Sir Gawain and the Turk, and I could go on but for brevity's sake let's start there.Ā
If you want to read about Tristan, go shoot an ask to Valentine @lanzelet on tumblr because Tristan scares me.Ā
Thank you to rey @gawain-in-green for helping me find links and put this together! They are also a super great resource for stuff and very cool and nice <3 They have a tag on their blog for full text resources so deffo look at that if you want more scans and links, and an info tag and tons of cool shit that is way better organized than my blog lol
Okay finishing this off, if you want content warnings for any texts, feel free to shoot an ask! I know medieval lit can be A Lot and there arenā€™t a lot of good warning systems, so if Iā€™ve read it or know someone who has I can give you warnings if you want to read something but are understandably wary . <3
In terms of tagging, Arthuriana and Arthurian Legend are the main ones on tumblr. Arthurian Mythology is also used but tbh shouldnā€™t be. On Ao3, weā€™re trying to get our own Arthurian Literature tag but <3 its a whole thing. Anyway the tag is Arthurian Mythology, but Iā€™ll b real, itā€™s kind of flooded with stuff that doesnā€™t really belong there, because even though itā€™s a fandom tag other people unknowingly tag stuff as Arthurian Mythology when itā€™s like, a knight au. Which is not their fault bc itā€™s confusing but, ah, alas. ANyhow, feel free to drop in my inbox anytime with questions, suggestions, reccs, etc!
Okay godspeed!! Have fun reading, watching, browsing, etc!Ā

Authorā€™s Note: I wrote this fic for an old fandom of mine and thought I could re-write/re-use it to finally get started on my JaTP bingo cardĀ (because my creativity and originality are nowhere to be found) - I hope you enjoy, yet Iā€™m still sorry in advance? (songā€™s Poet by Bastille but slightly adapted by me)
word count: 1.9k
prompt:Ā ā€˜Song Ficā€™ on my @jatpbingoā€‹ bingo card
summary:Ā It took several sleepless nights, days of throwing up and feeling bad and the pressure of cuddling with Luke to finally discover that you were pregnant.Ā
warnings:Ā teen pregnancy, character death, a very hastly scribbeled down fic idea (this was not beta read (or read over in general) so typos, inconsistent grammar and other faboulous little annoyances (if anyone loves to read my fanfics and would like to volunteer as my beta reader Iā€™ll kiss your feet))

It had been a few weeks since you, well... since you had seen another room rather than your classrooms and your own four walls. You even missed your kitchen and living room. But especially, you missed the boys' studio.Ā
Today, however, has been a good day. You had managed to eat properly without feeling sick and were starting to catch up on some shortly due essays, papers and homework assignments, so you wouldnā€™t need to do them when feeling utterly sick again.Ā
Luke had come to visit you (or tried to) a few times, needing to use his charm at your door, as you told your parents that you didnā€™t want him to see you. Your hair was a mess and unkempt, it pained you to stand for a long period of time (so you reduced the times you washed it to a minimum), your eyes had dark circles under them and you were exhausted even if you didnā€™t do anything the whole day long.
ā€œI brought you food. I know that your fridge only knows like three mealsā€, he had said once quietly, putting the tray with the steaming meal on your bed, gesturing for you to move a little, so he could sit beside you.
ā€œYou mean to say that I and/or my parents only know three mealsā€, you had coughed laughing and refused to move. You didnā€™t want him to get sick too.Ā
ā€œNo donā€™t,ā€ you had muttered when he started to push you to the side, ā€œI think I might have a bad bug and Sunset Curve canā€™t function without its lead vocalist and guitarist. And I canā€™t eat anyway.ā€
He had looked at you, confused and concerned. ā€œStill? Alex told me you were able to keep your breakfast in, and I thought that meant you were on your way of improvement.ā€
ā€œSome illnesses take longer to go away. I just didnā€™t want you to check on me because things like a normal cold or a little stomach bug can pass without unnecessary medications even if it takes longer.ā€
That had been two weeks ago. But today, when you were finally looking presentable again and were even able to open the door yourself, it wasnā€™t Luke that was visiting you.
ā€œOhā€¦ itā€™s you guys.ā€
ā€œGeez, thanks Y/N. No need to kill us with all this kindness,ā€ Reggie said laughing and sniffed, ā€œUh! Smells amazing. Pizza?ā€ Without any hesitation or warning, he entered your house and vanished into the kitchen.Ā
ā€œPizza? Wow, you must really be feeling better. I remember you throwing up on me a week ago when I tried to feed you chicken soup,ā€ Alex smiled, hands in his pockets and not moving until you invited him in.Ā
ā€œOh no,ā€ hiding your face in your hands after you closed the door behind you both and groaned. ā€œIā€™m so sorry about that. Again. Tell me how much the cleaning bill was and I-ā€
ā€œChill Y/N, relax. Youā€™ve seen me at my worst and now Iā€™ve seen you at your worst. Sure, I was still way more elegant and not as weak as you, but you just gave me a reason to finally get rid of those shoes.ā€
ā€œNo Alex! You loved those sneakers!ā€ you said horrified.
ā€œJust kidding. Give me 50 bucks and weā€™re even. Or, you know, better yet, come back to the studio and help us get rid of an overly clingy Luke. Now that youā€™re better, pleeeease, give him some cuddles!ā€
You giggled. ā€œYou know you have two perfectly fine arms to hug him with as well, right?ā€
ā€œYeah!ā€ He said, raising his voice. ā€œBut not ALL the time. And I want to be appreciated for myself once too! Not just because I am the only one available to give hugs as an ā€˜emergency solutionā€™!ā€
ā€œYou make it sound like you actually let us hug you dude, donā€™t lie,ā€ Reggie muttered through a mouthful of Pizza, throwing himself on your couch.
Throwing Reggie a stink eye Alex turned to you again. ā€œAnywayā€¦ You and I will go to the studio now. Yeah?ā€
ā€œWellā€, you stocked, not sure if you could talk to them about it. You had hoped for a few more days to think it over. ā€œYou knowā€¦ It might actually not have been a bad bug, but rather a big bug that I caught.ā€Ā Ā
At their confused faces, you sighed. ā€œIā€™m a few days, or even weeks... lateā€, you mumbled the last part so quietly, you werenā€™t even sure if they had heard you (if they even knew what you meant).
You were definitely not expecting Reggie to be the one to answer. ā€œDo you want me to drive you to the hospital or do you just want a pregnancy test first?ā€
-
You didnā€™t know who of them had told Luke, or when, but after a few minutes of waiting in the hospitalā€™s waiting room he came barreling in, beanie askew on his head and guitar case on his back. His searching eyes found yours in a haze and you could basically hear the question in his gaze ā€˜Are you?ā€™. Silently you shook your head, averting your eyes.Ā
Alex offered him his place beside you and Luke grabbed your hand while you waited. A few moments later your name was called and the nurse brought you and Luke to an empty room and told you to wait again. She came back a few minutes later and Luke moved to the side of the bed and held your hand again.
You didnā€™t feel the cold gel on your belly. Didnā€™t feel the way Luke was almost crushing your hand in his. Didnā€™t hear the words the nurse said. You only heard the faint heartbeat of your baby. You were pregnant.Ā
Luke was beaming, looking at the screen where you could see the ultrasound of your baby, but he also looked at you with a little bit of fear in his eyes.Ā
I can't say the words out loud So in a rhyme, I wrote you down Now you'll live through the ages I can feel your pulse in the pages
Even though you were only in your eighth week and not really showing yet, Luke wouldnā€™t allow you to wear anything else than his oversized hoodies, sweaters, pullovers and flannels (the ones that still had sleeves. And okay, fair enough, it might also have been because he absolutely loved to see you in his clothes.)
He was like an eagle watching over you, flying down as soon as you were doing or were going to do something he didnā€™t approve of. He even almost convinced his and your parents to move into your room so he could reach you faster in case of an emergency. (It was a clear no from both parents and he even got grounded for that idea - though later on, you learned from Alex that it was because he had said ā€˜Why not? Itā€™s not like I can impregnate her again!ā€™)
Of course, your parents werenā€™t happy about the situation, but they werenā€™t about to throw you out on the street. They both loved you and Luke (after all, they did fall for his charms one to many times), but they never really spoke the words out loud, never really talked about the fact that you two were going to be parents, a family at such a young age.
And Luke and you? While he was acting like an overprotective husband you both werenā€™t really talking about it either. You both were terrified about the fact that you were going to raise a child while Sunset Curve was trying to make it big, while you were still in High School and it still seemed more like a dream to you both, a dream from which neither of you wanted to wake up and face reality.
Thatā€™s why you started to write the letters. Or in Lukeā€™s case - lyrics. Letters to future youā€™s, letters to your unborn child telling them about your adventures, your experiences and feelings. It was a way to tell yourself all the reasons why it was okay that you were going to be having sleepless nights filled with the cries of a baby, telling you that it was all going to be worth it.
And for the first time, while writing those letters and lyrics, it was as if both you could feel your baby.
Your body lies upon the sheets Of paper in words so sweet I can't say the words So I wrote you into my verse Now you'll live through the ages I can feel your pulse in the pages
Time went by fast. You remembered the first time you felt the little kick very well, as if it was yesterday, but at that time you still could somewhat see your feet and now you couldnā€™t even stand up anymore without somebodyā€™s help.
School was weird, but you had the boys to help you through it.
You started to draw little babies beside your letters, trying to imagine the different looks it could have. Would it have your hair or Lukeā€™s? His eyes and your nose? Your eyes and his smile?Ā
And then you started to write your letters and lyrics around the baby, making it look like it was cradled by your warm words, hoping that whenever you wouldnā€™t be able to hold your child, it would be able to read your letters and feel the love, because you surely did.Ā
How could you have known that in just a few weeks these lyrics would be the only words your child would everĀ ā€˜hearā€™ from their father?
I have read you with these eyes I've read you with these eyes I have held you in these hands
You had never seen your parents looking so fragile and broken like the night they came into your room to tell you the boys died.Ā
And then, the next thing you knew was that your son was born. The doctors and nurses said that it was the stress, the emotional overload of being told that your friends, your loves, the father of your child died that caused your water to break.
Thatā€™s why it was Bobby and not Luke that was by your side that night and held your hand. It was Bobby, the normally strong and grumpy teenager, that was smiling like a little kid that just got told it would get to eat as much candy as it wanted.Ā
His eyes were glistening with tears as the nurse handed him the little bundle of joy and he started to sway him - Luke - slowly back and forth, knowing that you were too tired to hold him at the moment.Ā
ā€œHe is beautifulā€, you murmured as he took a seat beside you, his gaze still fixed on his nephew, because obviously, he would be Uncle Bobby (though not for a very long time), ā€œJust like his father.ā€
You didnā€™t hear Bobbyā€™s answer as you fell asleep and dreamed of Luke, tucking you in and kissing your forehead before he dedicated himself entirely to the new tiny human in his arms, singing a sweet lullaby.Ā
ā€œWe have written you down. Now you will live forever and all the world will hear you and you will live forever. In eyes not yet created, on tongues that are not born, in ears not yet listening. I have written you down, now you will live forever and Sunset Curve will sing about you.ā€

bunch of little things from the comics that i like to compare with the mcu to figure out what i would like to see going forward:
it's kind of a bare minimum petition in a way. i'd call this a comparative essay but it's too messy to be an essay so, let's just start LOL... im not actually that well versed in comics im more like "oh yeah i dig this" and run w what i like
first off sam in the mcu i actually really love what they've done with him. might be because i can't help but love sam since he's so damn charming. i guess one glaring difference between comics sam and movies sam is the way they carry themselvesā€”compared to mcu sam, comics sam has been doing this for decades. he is rougher around the edges while having his big heart anyway, which is a really nice contrast and makes sense given how long he's been working as falcon lol. so what are the differences that can be found/how did the mcu adapt some of sam's comic traits?
he's a social worker and a community organizer! he also runs a veteran support group, not that different from sam being a counselor in the mcu. in tfatws it's shown that sam helps sarah whenever he's around in delacroix, in turn helping out the whole communityā€”showing that they're (the wilsons) are very loved by all the members in their community, and this is a very important thing! a connection to a community! a purpose for a character to want to fight for others, to have something they love and protect and make it believable at the same time. it's lovely.
sam's heart being too big and moving people / seeing the best in others carries on super well in the mcu. everyone's familiar with sam giving shelter to stevenat in tws, sam never wanting to fight karli, sam being kind to john, etc. it's a lovely detail and one of my fave things about him so that's also super satisfying :)
so now in terms of sam wilson as a character what would i like to see more? it already started during tfatws when he confronted all those politicians on live tv but cap sam makes the point of not remaining quiet and speaking up, something that usually costs him public approval but he remains strong and tall about what he believes in. not being afraid to take a political stance despite people wanting him to stay neutral.
sam's struggles on wanting to do what's right by him and at the same time having some struggles according to how he's perceived by the public because it's always going to be an important conversation to have and again, this character is not one to shy again from stances like these. when tfatws was coming out lots of people were uncomfortable by how ā€œpoliticalā€ and by the race conversations that took place in the series. i don't think they'd shy away from it anyway but still something i truly wish to see how they handle. esp with a not-white team working on it heh
more moments of sam being truly sure of who he is and killing it bc i love him
sam's connection to his family and how they influence him to be who he is, and sam's own little family composed of joaquĆn and shaun and redwing (currently just joaquĆn and redwing in the mcu) to have his own support system besides the guys we already know
just. sam :)
moving onto bucky, mcu bucky is... kind of starting to be his own character at last? like i remember watching tfatws ep 1 and going OMG HE HAS A PERSONALITY so it was a big deal. so it's a bit of a clean slate, right? so here are the things i wish the mcu would implement for bucky but i highly doubt they will but i love to dream anyway:
ideally seeing where the character is right now they could, yes, take an approach to winter soldier 2018 since it fits bucky's current character arc of learning to forgive himself and try to do good.
really want the mcu to stop pushing the white wolf narrative and trying to erase the winter soldier from bucky, seeing as how ed brubaker is responsible for bringing bucky back as the winter soldier and how he feels re:mcu bucky, i feel like the least they could do is let him still keep the winter soldier, just. reclaim the name like in the 2018 run, etc
bucky is a loving character. he just loves so damn much. if comics sam is sharp around the edges but soft inside, bucky is soft around the edges but firm inside. he's not afraid to call sam and nat his best friends when they're captured specifically to lure bucky out
he feels so much for people, he acknowledges the burden and the pain he carries to do better and take back his mistakes, and tries to take care of everybody without ever putting himself first, and endures So much.. talk about being a meow meow
super good with kids somehow?
please mcu give him friends who love him that's all i actually ask from you. bucky is loyal to a nauseating degree. even when sam and nat get captured it was literally illegal for him to break them out but what did he do? break the law, of course,
he's hilarious. for real trust me he's hilarious. like there's something wrong with him (affectionate)
so to sum it up: just dont be afraid to make him kind and loving bc thats where bucky shines most. as for the sambucky dynamic in general i just want them to still be themselves. just like this :)

Adventure and 02ā€²s production philosophy and its impact on the storywriting (or:Ā ā€œa series made with love is best understood with loveā€)
Itā€™s hard to really judge a series too much by its production details, but Adventure and 02ā€²s staff has been veryĀ open about discussing background and production to the point weā€™re able to involve it in discussions. In fact, to a certain degree, weā€™ve gotten rather reliantĀ on said production notes to explain too many things that werenā€™t clearly depicted or stated in the series -- Iā€™ve spent a fair share of time complaining about how frustratingly subtle this series is -- and you see a lot of strange conspiracy theories or myths about production that circulate in all sorts of different directions. Undeniably, itā€™s a series that spoke to a ton of people, but there are still so many things that have perplexed people over the last two decades, and when you ask someoneĀ ā€œwhatā€™s good about this series?ā€, people struggle to say it in clear words, often only able to resort to a rather oversimplified explanation likeĀ ā€œthe character development is goodā€ (but what isĀ character development, anyway?). A lot of times, some small things that initially donā€™t seem to track have led to some pretty wild, far-reaching fanbase-endorsed theories, when in fact the actual reality of the situation is much more mundane.
I think, in general, the best way toĀ ā€œunderstandā€ Adventure and 02 is simply to have an open mind about everything in regards to it. This is something I can only say because we currently have moreĀ than enough evidence, given production testimony, that this is the kind of series that was made with that kind of philosophy -- I will not shy away from the fact that there areĀ things in this world that are made maliciously, meant toĀ ā€œone-upā€ the audience or using half-baked explanations as a way to cover up the fact that it wasnā€™t well thought-through. But in the case of Adventure and 02 specifically, almost everythingĀ we have heard about it is to the contrary, and, in practice, I find one can get much more out of the series by adjusting oneā€™s mindsetĀ to think about what theyā€™re looking out for and not, because once you have, the beauty of the series opens itself up even in places youā€™re not looking for it.
Letā€™s talk a little about the production philosophy behind Adventure and 02 and how it shaped a series that left such an impact on so many kids, and what we can learn from it!
ā€œSomething important that we wanted to tell the kids who were watchingā€
The two most important figures to know when it comes to Adventure and 02 production are its producer, Seki HiromiĀ (who would eventually go on to produce Tamers and Frontier as well, along with being supervising consultant on Kizuna), and its director, Kakudou Hiroyuki. I would say that both of these figures are probably the most influential people in shaping the series as we know it, but in different ways -- Kakudou was the one most responsible for building the world of Adventure and 02 and setting up the standard for having all sorts of background worldbuilding details that werenā€™t shown in the series, whereas Seki was the one who pushed for them to include family backgrounds and things that ought to be relatable to the average kid, so that they could empathize with the problems shown on screen.
Both of them had different ways of going at it, which is all for the better because it allowed the story to be enriched from both sides, but the common thread between the two was that they wanted to use this opportunity toĀ ā€œshow the kids important thingsā€:
Kakudou is the kind of person I would say is veryĀ ā€œmedia literateā€ -- he was veryĀ well-read in books and well-versed in cinema, not just Japanese but also internationally, and also veryĀ in-tune with the Internet by the standards of a director in 1999. (Part of the reason we know so much about Digimon production now is that he still keeps up with everything on social media and throws in a few comments here and there.) His comments on the final episode of Adventure include a list of all of the things he credited for inspiring him during this series, and he later stated that he had a goal of conveying all of thoseĀ ā€œinteresting thingsā€ to the kids watching, so that they could also find it interesting. So in other words, Adventure and 02 were basically his love letter to everything in media that heā€™d come to appreciate.
Seki was the one who pushed for humans to be involved in the series so that the audience could empathize with them, and for all of theĀ ā€œreal world worldbuildingā€ like the kidsā€™ family backgrounds. Sheā€™s also functionally responsible for the base premise of 02 at all, having been thoroughly alarmed by the story of a young boy skipping grades into university (to the point this plotline resurfaced a whole 20 years later in Kizuna). It can be said that the heavyĀ ā€œhuman dramaā€ elements and family background emphasis continuing into Tamers and Frontier are probably her doing, and in terms of Kizuna, she also was responsible for personally vetting the dialogue to keep the kids in character, and it was said that it came off like she loved the characters as if they were her own children.
The result is that, firstly, Adventure and 02 is a series that is very well-thought through. RidiculouslyĀ well thought-through, in both background lore and character backgrounds and mentality. So many surface-level criticisms of Adventure and 02 come with an accusation that the writers wereĀ ā€œlazyā€ orĀ ā€œdid a writing cop-outā€, but we actually have moreĀ evidence that the Adventure and 02 staff thought out soĀ many details in the background that they kept forgetting that they hadnā€™t actually told the audience about it yet. (No, seriously,Ā thereā€™s a thread of official staff repeatedly forgetting that they may not have actually outright mentioned one of the background details theyā€™d planned out in advance.) Even despite all of the extra information weā€™ve gotten since in the drama CDs and Animation Chronicle and such, it seems thereā€™s still way more informationĀ that was planned out that we still havenā€™t learned about, and itā€™s presumably why there are so many little things that are too consistent to be coincidental and yet were still never actually stated. It may have been awful at communicatingĀ those details well, but those details were most definitely there, and both series have a shockingĀ amount of consistency in adhering to them.
The second is that not only did the producer and director want to convey those important things, they also encouraged the rest of the staff to do it too:
One of the concepts behind the prior series was for us to pack in as many interesting things that weā€™d seen, heard about, or read about as we could into it, so for 02, we thought, what else could we put in beyond even that?, and so we looked over what we needed to have, and put in all the things we could so that they wouldnā€™t be left out, and the story became a multi-layered one, overlapping and accelerating. It was to the point that, after weā€™d gone through 02ā€˜s story, the scriptwriters told me that theyā€™d worn everything they had out to the ground.
So in other words, Adventure and 02 were basically a sort of potluck where they encouraged everyone on staff to come up with interesting things that they wanted to show the kids, and throw it all in -- and itā€™s presumably why the second half of 02 is soĀ ā€œcrowdedā€ (more on this later), because you had everything from all of the writers on staff adding another thing into the potluck, until everyone could get it out of their system. Yoshimura Genki, one of 02ā€²s head writers, said outright that she used the famous 02 episode 23 to convey her concerns about some very real and horrible things happening to kids at the time, and itā€™s easy to imagine that all of the other writers and staff members were given similar encouragement to do so. Even the (in)famous 02 episode 13 was something originally created from Kakudou seeing Dagomon, thinking he was really cool and wanting to make an episode about him, and remembering that Konaka was good at Lovecraft and basically goingĀ ā€œheā€™s gonna loveĀ this, we should get him to do an episode.ā€Ā In fact, itā€™s said many times that a huge attitude behind production was toĀ ā€œnot be ashamed of anythingā€ and try whatever they wanted.
Which means that the result is a series that isnā€™t actually all that well-organized in plot or structure -- 02ā€²s plot writing is of course an infamous pile of knots, but even those who are willing to be a bit more critical of Adventure often point out that its plot is simply more linear, being basically a video game-esque boss rush ofĀ ā€œevil enemy, followed by even moreĀ evil enemyā€. Most people do not watch Adventure or 02 for the actual plotĀ writing. What they doĀ watch it for is all of this stuff mentioned above -- that all of these different people on staff were given the questionĀ ā€œwhat do you want to say to this audience of kids?ā€ and took the opportunity to say something fun or meaningful. And, hence, why itā€™s best to understand Adventure and 02 not necessarily by the minutiae of its plot, but rather,Ā ā€œwhat was this series trying to say?ā€
Writing the series as it went along, under massive constraints
In general, Japanese anime is produced as it goes along -- even the character writing is subject to change depending on the voice actorsā€™ performanceĀ (this was cited for Adventure specifically, but itā€™s well-known common practice for non-adaptation anime in general). That said, Adventure didnā€™t even have a guarantee of how long it was going to be at first -- it was generally expected that itā€™d be a one-year series (like most Toei series), but they werenā€™t even sureĀ about it. This resulted in a veryĀ ā€œloose mindsetā€, in which they decided to basically wing it, and the only thing determined for sure was that the epilogue (that we now know as the 02 epilogue) was going to be at the end of it.
As I mentioned above, scrutinizing the plot of Adventure too closely reveals that itā€™s not actually thatĀ coherent of a narrative, just more linear -- and, even by official admission, Hikari wasnā€™t planned to be the eighth child at first nor was the Tokyo arc of episodes planned to be that long, and yet this entire section is one of the most famous parts of Adventure. A lot of the best parts of Adventure and 02 seem to be the result of sheer accident...
...Or was it accident? Can you say thatĀ ā€œgoing in with a positive mindset and a desire to do something meaningfulā€ is accident? Even if you didnā€™t plan things out from the beginning, if you go into everything with an attitude of wanting to make the best out of something and make the best out of opportunities you see and hear about, is that reallyĀ an accident? Couldnā€™t you perhaps say that this kind of thing isĀ why Adventure and 02 hit so well with people to begin with?
By the time we get to 02, 02 started off as a very different series from the get-go, and itā€™s always struck me as very odd that people act like 02 was tacked on and didnā€™t have nearly the exact same staff. It was Kakudou himself who petitioned for 02 to start off with a light atmosphere, and the series itself was fundamentally meant to be addressing the new concepts ofĀ ā€œrelationshipsā€ instead of Adventureā€™sĀ ā€œself-assertionā€, and explore concepts that hadnā€™t been covered in Adventure. The reason 02 is so different from Adventure is exactly becauseĀ the staff didnā€™t want to rehash things for another year, and instead wanted to take the opportunity to cover stuff Adventure didnā€™t. And the fact that 02 is lighter than Adventure at first, but quickly gets darker, is also by design:
The story had gotten rather heavy by the time of Digimon Adventure, so we decided to make it come off as brighter. And then, it actually ended up getting even heavier somewhere down the line, but there was no way we could just avoid depicting important life problems.
Which is also a similar sentiment reflected by Seki herself, when thinking about how her suggested plotline ended up making the story darker:
An overly intelligent child, prone to falling into loneliness, cut off from his friends and family, and with a Digimon slowly coming and staying close to himā€¦I remember that kind of image forming. We were supposed to have been aiming to have them going to the Digital World with the mood of a picnic, but the fact it didnā€™t end up so easy for them may have been my faultā€¦or so I remember thinking as I reflected on it.
02 didnā€™t get dark for the sheer sake of getting dark, and in fact itā€™s not like the staff necessarily wantedĀ it to get that way, but there were so many meaningful things that they wanted to tell the audience of kids that they allowed it to. Itā€™s also kind of odd how the fanbase has this idea of there somehow being staff conflicts or people bickering in order to produce 02, but thereā€™s no indication of this at all -- at most, 02 unusually had two head writers instead of one, Yoshimura Genki and Maekawa Atsushi, but it was even said that they had a clear division of roles, with Yoshimura on theĀ ā€œvillainsā€ side and Maekawa on theĀ ā€œprotagonistsā€ side, and thereā€™s no sign of conflict.
(A lot of people also tend to give more credit to Yoshimura since the villains are some of the most masterfully crafted part of both Adventure or 02, but this is still somewhat reductive; Maekawa is very open about the fact that he was rather inexperienced during 02ā€²s production, and considering the fact that the 02 protagonists arenā€™t nearly as underdeveloped as the fanbase claims they are, and Maekawa would later go on to write a PreCure entry that basically saved the franchise and a very well-acclaimed Super Sentai entry, both with many parallels to 02, his role should not be discounted, especially since 02 is often liked by its fanbase for the duality between both its lighter and darker sides.)
So we had the staff basically on a roll of throwing in everything important they wanted to say to the kids, bothĀ ā€œfunā€ andĀ ā€œmeaningfulā€, and then, two things impacted the way it ended: firstly, they werenā€™t allowed to go with their initial proposal for the final enemy because it was too gory, and secondly, the decision was made midway through that they would not be making a third Adventure series, and would have to end more quickly than expected.
I think, whenever you hear stories ofĀ ā€œwe were originally going to do this but couldnā€™t,ā€ people generally tend to assume that they shouldĀ have done the original plan (especially if the original plan was particularly gory or brutal, because everyone loves to think that edgy is better), but, perhaps fittingly for a series thatā€™s about not drowning in past regrets ofĀ ā€œwhat should have beenā€ and learning to move on, the staff has never really shown any indications of really, thoroughly regrettingĀ any of the decisions they made for 02, even if the second half came out messy. If you look at that original proposal they had for 02ā€²s final enemy, in which it would be an enemyĀ ā€œreduced to an ideaā€, it certainly explainsĀ a lot about why BelialVamdemon was defeated by the power of sheer positivity in the final ending -- obviously that would make a lot more sense with a conceptual embodiment of malice, instead of a returning enemy from the prior series -- but at the same time, that loss of that concept led to the creation of Oikawa, Archnemon, and Mummymon, which have consistently been praised as one of the most compelling parts of 02 and its finale, and Yoshimura herself even gushed about the concepts they got. So itā€™s notĀ ā€œwe couldnā€™t do what we wanted,ā€ itā€™s moreĀ ā€œwe couldnā€™t do what we initiallyĀ wanted and made something out of it, arguably an even better something in certain ways.ā€
And as for the lack of the third Adventure series, all indications point to the fact that this was something by personal choice of the staff, not by higher-up mandate -- not that I enjoy speculating about other people I donā€™t know, but if you actually follow what Kakudou has said about his work on Adventure and 02, and the fact that he considers his later work on X-Evolution to functionally be getting everything else out of his systemĀ (even saying that he liked Bandai doing a lot of the work for him), Kakudou doesnā€™t seem to wantĀ to be the main leader of his projects for the most part, mostly seeing Adventure and 02 as the one time he got to dump all of his one-time ideas that he personally wanted to accomplish, and otherwise being satisfied doing episode direction work for others -- testimony as to the handoff between 02 and Tamers consistently depicts him as expressing sentiments similar to ā€œplease let me have a break.ā€ (As of this writing, he still does work for Toei, but has never been lead director on a full series since.) Kakudou didnā€™t like having to deal with a bunch of increasingly canon-contradictory works because, as an infamously detail-oriented and consistent person, dealing with that kind of thing didnā€™t really seem to agree with him, and moreover itā€™s understandable that he (and the other staff) would feel that it was better to end it there instead of overstaying its welcome and stretching things out.
Certainly, when you look at the second half of 02, its plot isĀ ā€œcrowdedā€ in nearly every direction (not as incomprehensible as people like to claim it is, but definitely going in a lot of places at once). The infamous 02 epilogue is probably theĀ biggest example of the disparity between staff thought and how it came off; remember that it was one of the first things decided about the series at all, meaning that the staff was deliberating over it and under the impression they were building up to it for a whole two years, but when it finally dropped everyone was blindsided and even often made accusations of the staff coming up with it at the last minute while drunk or something (not helped by the staff clearly being soĀ fixated on their own production that they even included details that were completely incomprehensible to anyone not aware of the potential third series plotline). Yet, ever since then, many people who have sat down with it have figured out that itā€™s not thatĀ incomprehensible and that many of the aspects of it make sense on a theoretical level or are foreshadowed in the series -- itā€™s just that they tacked it onto the end of an excessively crowded finale with no warning and didnā€™t sufficiently communicate their reasoning for it, requiring people to spend the next 20 years puzzling it out and Kizuna to come around to drop even more clues, and also failed to realize that one of humanityā€™s most die-on-a-hill issues about media (shipping) would make people a lotĀ more offended than they likely intended. (PreCure has successfully pulled offĀ ā€œadult timeskipā€ epilogues in recent years, and theyā€™ve all been received well, but the difference is that they actually pad out the episode with a proper lead-up instead of just chucking it in your face right after Oikawa dies.)
And, ultimately, the staff has never shown any signs of having regret over this. Kakudou takes the stance that they were able to close out 02 in a good way, despite all of the circumstances. The rest of the staff, including Seki herself, and overall Toei as a whole, has doubled downĀ further on the latter half of 02ā€²s plot events andĀ the epilogueā€™s place in canon despite the infamous controversy around it, and I have to say that I do at least understand why theyā€™re like this when you consider the circumstances and their likely feelings on it -- regardless of everything, theyā€™re proud of the work they did on it, and even if not everything went according to original plan, they loved taking the opportunity to use the sandbox to express things they may not have been able to in their other projects, and the epilogue was their baby that theyā€™d been raising for two years. Itā€™s the ultimate question ofĀ ā€œsatisfying the creators vs. satisfying the audienceā€ -- not to say that I completely agree with the call to be thisĀ unaware of how people were going to read this, because itā€™s not goodĀ to blindside your audience or hurt their feelings, but at the same time, itā€™s said that you will never be able to satisfy an audience at all if youā€™re not satisfying yourself first. And in the end, despite everything, that somethingĀ in Adventure and 02, built out of that earnest desire to say something, came across in some ways and touched the hearts of kids all over the world.
So the result was that the Adventure and 02 staff did everything they wanted, got it out of their system, and handed an imperfect but carefully-crafted baton to Seki, who decided that it was a good opportunity to do something completely new, and deliberately picked Tamersā€™s director Kaizawa on the grounds that heā€™d had no experience with the series before. Remembering that Seki was onĀ Adventure and 02 and was clearly happy with it, her decision to do something new with Tamers was just that -- to do something new -- and itā€™s honestly kind of saddening that the seriesā€™ respective fanbases treat each other with significantly less respect than their actual creators do, since both series stillĀ shared a lot of staff, Kakudou went on to be an episode director for Tamers (and even calls it aĀ ā€œmasterpieceā€), and Konaka clearly has a lot of respect for his predecessor series as well, with Tamers being its own product made with conscientiousness and a desire to make things meaningful for kids (Kaizawa himself has expressed a lotĀ of strong opinions on this topic). A lot of anti-02 folks have often spread a conspiracy theory that Tamers came out of aĀ ā€œwriter revoltā€ because they hated beingĀ ā€œrestrictedā€ by 02 and wantedĀ ā€œmore freedomā€ -- but that is completely contraryĀ to the above evidence where 02ā€²s production process arguably gave the writers too muchĀ freedom, and Tamers head staff was picked deliberately due to their lack of connection to the prior series so that they could do something conversely new and fresh...
One thing thatā€™s interesting about Kizuna is that its director, Taguchi Tomohisa, has spoken very often about his love for the original series, right down to respecting its ability to cover very serious topics. His recruitment philosophy for the movie also seemed to haveĀ ā€œbeing a fan of the seriesā€ as a big plus factor, and he moreover shows a lot of respect for the staff members involved in production, both the people he recruited and the long-timers like Seki.Ā ā€œBeing a fan of the seriesā€ doesnā€™t necessarily constitute skill by itself, but thereā€™s a lot of similar sentiments inĀ ā€œletā€™s make something that shows respect and does something interesting and importantā€ andĀ ā€œletā€™s make sure the staff gets to do something without regretsā€ also seem to be pretty huge factors in consideration here, rather similar to the original series...
What this means in terms of understanding the series
I do not think that, just because a creator clearly had good reasoning for putting in what they did, the audience necessarily has to acceptĀ that. It may have had good intentions, but "intentionsā€ donā€™t justify things coming off the way they do, or at least, the 20/20 hindsight can make us all get together and thinkĀ ā€œif thatĀ was your intention, there were probably a million better ways to execute that.ā€ And, as someone writing this blog, there are times I really thinkĀ ā€œif you could have please just thought a little harderĀ about making those ideas clearer so we wouldnā€™t have to have these arguments...ā€
However, I do think there is something illuminating about the idea ofĀ ā€œadjusting oneā€™s mindsetā€ in response to the above revelations, and going in with an open mind when trying to get something out of the series for oneā€™s own sake. I mean this trulyĀ in the sense of encouraging others to find something interesting and new -- this is not a blog I write expecting people to see things the same way I do, as much as I like encouraging people to look out for things they might have not noticed beforehand.
I started writing for this blog regularly last year (I hadnā€™t even plannedĀ to start regularly doing it) after a rewatch of Adventure and 02 with some friends and some honest discussion about the series after it, and one thing we all agreed to do when we did that rewatch wasĀ ā€œwe are notĀ going to go in with the intent to criticize it.ā€ That is to say, we decided to throw out all of those sentiments that you have toĀ ā€œadmitā€ everything wrong with any series when even bringing up its name -- which is not to say that weā€™re glossing over potential criticisms or their validity, justĀ ā€œweā€™re doing this rewatch to have funĀ and to enjoy and appreciate things, and that will be our priority going in.ā€ After making that agreement, something really magical happened, and it was that we started catching things without even looking for it, things that had clearly been planned but hidden in the background, or things that were caught by one person in the group watch chat and pointed out to the others, and it turned out that a huge chunk of theĀ ā€œcriticismsā€ we might have originally gone in with actually didĀ have answers, we just hadnā€™t realized it because we were too brainwashed into the mindset of dismissing things asĀ ā€œwell, that partā€™s just bad writing.ā€
Of course, weā€™ve seenĀ bad writing -- itā€™s not like we were going out of our way to absolve everyone for every mistake -- but that base mindset allowed us to better appreciate things we might have missed earlier that werenā€™t immediately apparent. Iā€™ve said many times that I donā€™t think the things I write on here are thatĀ huge speculation -- in fact, in writing meta, I often throw out a lot of stuff because I thinkĀ ā€œyeah thatā€™s tooĀ absurd, letā€™s just stick with the simplest explanationā€ -- as much as I just thread things that areĀ in the series but are frustratingly subtle, because Iā€™m taking things that seem like throwaway details and goingĀ ā€œhm, well, instead of just dropping it the first time likeĀ ā€˜probably bad writingā€™, letā€™s maybe look at this one more timeĀ and see if there was a reason?ā€ And those reasons present themselves surprisingly easily without even that much effort, and after a while you come to realize: this is a reallyĀ consistent series!
Itā€™s actually very rareĀ that things outright contradict themselves, because it reallyĀ does not take long to piece together a rational explanation (because those things are in the series, just buried)! This wasĀ a detail-oriented series that had a ridiculous amount of attention paid to it, even if it didnā€™t communicate that! Whenever I post meta, I often get comments from people who say outright that theyā€™d had the same impressions, they just didnā€™t know how to put it in words! Thereā€™s been multiple cases of people independently coming up with readings of the series that the fanbase historically dismissed as a reach, only for official to come out and confirm they were absolutelyĀ correct, and a common thread between all of these is that they wereĀ referenced in the series, itā€™s just that people kept wanting to dismiss them becauseĀ ā€œthereā€™s no way theyā€™d be thatĀ detailedā€! A truly contradictory series falls apart when you subject it to higher scrutiny (even when youā€™re being optimistic about it), but thereā€™s a strange thing about Adventure and 02 in that they actually fit together even moreĀ when you look closely -- and, again, things start coming in when you donā€™t even expect it, just because of your mindset.
I suppose the take-home here with all of this is that a series like this is best understood when you have an open mind and a desire to listen to what it has to say. As I said before: Adventure and 02 (and especiallyĀ 02) are not series that most people watch for the plot, and, to be honest, itā€™s clear that plot wasnā€™t even a priorityĀ for all of the staff in the first place as much as it was about conveying important ideas and sentiments. And Iā€™m not going to say whether not prioritizing plot or not is aĀ ā€œgoodā€ orĀ ā€œbadā€ thing -- for some people, that kind of thing is understandably very important, and a series like 02 can be very frustrating to deal with as a result! -- as much as, for those who have a genuine interest in sitting down and understanding these series, I cannot recommend scrutinizing the plot too much simply because it will not get you very far, and, to be honest, whenever I see a lot of analyses of Adventure and 02, I really doĀ often wonder if they actually understand the core of the series and the sentiment and emotion behind it, or whether theyā€™re just doing it on a technical surface level so they can say they did (which is usually partially as a bid to passive-aggressively dunk on later series to prove Adventure is superior). The entire concept of objectivity is a lie in itself, but this is notĀ a series that you can get much out of if you try to evaluate it with that kind of detachment; itā€™s a series that spoke to you through theme and passion first and foremost, and to receive that message andĀ ā€œenjoyā€ the series is most effectively done when you detach all of those doubts and approach the series without malice.
(By the way, this is not me claiming Iā€™m inherently aĀ ā€œbetterā€ analyst just because I also prefer to use this mentality when approaching it; itā€™s just that Iā€™m a bit frustrated that this kind of approach is so hard to find, despite Adventureā€™s popularity, because losing out on the heart causes so much rich potential to get lost. This is also the reason I recommend @analyzingadventureā€˜s work so much -- Iā€™m so sorry about tagging you for the third time here! -- because theyā€™re as positive about Adventure as I am about 02, and their insight and thought into the series coming from the angle of ā€œappreciatingā€ it with genuine positivity is something I believe is trulyĀ valuable in a climate where this is very hard to find.)
And this is what I mean,Ā ā€œto approach it without maliceā€. I donā€™t mean that you should go in prepared to never have criticisms of it ever again, nor that you should just absolve everything and assume that everything is fine, but rather that going in with a mindset ofĀ ā€œweā€™re going to look for things to loveā€ instead ofĀ ā€œweā€™re going toĀ ā€˜look pastā€™ the badā€ alone has the magical effect of shifting your entire view of the series, way more than I would say with any other. And, again, thatā€™s only something that can happen when the base product was made with this much sentiment and honesty to begin with, and moreover fighting against the mindset to criticize is tough when weā€™re dealing with a fanbase thatā€™s acted like beingĀ ā€œfairā€ requiresĀ ā€œacknowledgingā€ the faults of everything in the same breath you praise it until the horse is beaten for two decades and everyoneā€™s exhausted. (And then yells at you if you dare criticize anything thatā€™s put on the fanbaseā€™s pedestal.) Itā€™s kind of the question of: should this reallyĀ be about media criticism and whether itā€™sĀ ā€œobjectivelyā€ good or bad, especially since this has been brought up soĀ often for two decades now, or might it be better to think about how to have a more positive experience with something that you may not have had before?
Once you get rid of that mindset ofĀ ā€œcritical by defaultā€, you start to realize things that the series didĀ knock out of the park, or were exceptional, that got too obscured by the distractions of fixating on its plot -- 02 is a plot mess for sure, but I have neverĀ seen any series that is so sincere and earnest about its actual themes and things it wanted to say, and itā€™s something I love it even more for. And buried under that criticism of everyone not gettingĀ ā€œequal attentionā€ from an evolutionary forms perspective is the fact that, from a storyĀ perspective, they deliberately went out of their way to make sure everyone gets mostly equal focus, which is something that sticks out especially when you start watching other long-running series that arenā€™t as good about this, and although itā€™s not completelyĀ perfect by any means, they do a damn good job keeping everyone in the 8- and 6-person groups relevant to the very end, which is pretty impressive! And, in the end, you end up having a much healthier relationship with the series -- again, itā€™s not glossing over everything to pretend nothing is wrong per se, but rather, youā€™re able to appreciate it and love it for what it is, instead of constantly feeling like youā€™re making up for itsĀ ā€œmistakesā€.

Re that post about ShadowClan; honestly Iā€™ve been wondering a lot about your world building take on Brokenstar era ShadowClan! I never said anything because you can write whatever you want and I donā€™t want to accidentally come off as pressure but like
A lot of your lore about how the elders are the culture keepers and the sort of council of the clan, in every clan (tho their exact role and how they play into clan politics and what they do can vary)
It makes me think about how one of the first things Brokenstar did was remove elders from camp, eventually escalating to not feeding them at all and essentially treating them as worthless (and his downfall being that he didnā€™t care to actually pay attention to them because he thought they were useless, thus a resistance was able to form and help ThunderClan against Broken)
And Nightstar! Who was already an elder when he became leader! It would be super cool to hear about that in your verse, because I imagine it would go a bit deeper than a regular deputy becoming leader, since elders are such an important part of the clan.
I tend to imagine that ShadowClan actually is pretty open to others joining (mostly bc in canon Boulder and Russetfur werenā€™t clanborn) and outwordly act like they are aggressive and unwelcoming towards others, and donā€™t really announce that they accept others? But if a cat comes to them and has nowhere to go, and is willing to join and learn and work, theyā€™ll let them. And I feel like ShadowClan are super close and loyal to each other, even by clan standards. Theyā€™re seen as the mean nasty cats but they always have each others backs.
That went into headcanon ramble but ahh basically Iā€™d love to hear your thoughts on ShadowClan and the expansion of world building and lore !!
Imma tack on another question since this is already super long; do you think in TNP the journey cats would talk about and end up feeling close friendships by understanding each otherā€™s clan cultures? Like not just the stereotypes that those outside the clan think but hearing what itā€™s like in each clan from a member of it, and then having this friend group that sort of mixes those and them having habits they canā€™t really express around their clan bc they would sound unloyal
((Anyway I love your writing and lore and everything !! Thank you for sharing it !))
Hello there! Oh my is this a long ask. I didnā€™t even realise tumblr let you send asks this long? Iā€™ll put all of my response under a read-more to preserve peopleā€™s dash space.Ā
Thank you very much for such a kind series of compliments! Itā€™s lovely to know how much youā€™ve enjoyed my work--and how much youā€™re anticipating my future works. I hope they are worth the wait. And donā€™t worry about pressuring me--itā€™s really not possible. I write what I want to write, at my pace. Hearing peopleā€™s enthusiasm for my work is always lovely, of course, and I interpret asks like this as support, not pressure.Ā
I think Brokenstar had the capacity to be very interesting (hence why I wrote a story about him) and I thought his treatment of the elders actually showed some political savvy, just like his deposition of the clanā€™s medicine cats. He worked to undermine and isolate the cats whose authority could rival his own, which--when your goal is total control--is actually not a bad move. It did backfire on him eventually, but only because of Thunderclanā€™s involvement.Ā
I wonā€™t comment on your Shadowclan headcanons, because (as Iā€™ve said before) I donā€™t like to talk too much about lore outside of my stories, but I sincerely hope youā€™ll enjoy whatever next Shadowclan story I put forward. Iā€™m working on something at the moment that I get the feeling you might really like--but weā€™ll see! You can tell me when you read if I was right about that.Ā
Although, you saidĀ ā€œoutwardly act like they are aggressive and unwelcoming towards [non-clan cats], and donā€™t really announce that they accept [non-clan cats]?ā€ and I want to pose a little rhetorical question for you: how would they keep something like that a secret from the other clans, when every moon they attend the gatherings, and every clan announces their kittens and new apprentices? Seems like a difficult subterfuge to manage.Ā
As for your question regarding the New Prophecies--I honestly havenā€™t thought about it much. My favourite and truest love of Warriors is the old territories, and while Iā€™ll grudgingly accept that those are now gone and will not come back, my preference is not the lake and I donā€™t really care for the story of travelling together to the promised land.Ā
That said, I donā€™t actually think the cats would adopt each otherā€™s cultures very readily--thatā€™s a lot easier said than done, for one thing, and for another, I think how much a cat would be interested in learning (and what they would be allowed to learn) is highly individual--and cultural change and adaptation isnā€™t really an individual endeavour--and also I suspect the clans would be quite cautious around sharing their traditions just because. Culture isnā€™t just a collection of quirks or rituals: itā€™s kind of a perspective on the world, and a lot of cultures donā€™t mesh super well because of these different perspectives, at least not without a long time living together and/or concerted effort. We have the term ā€œculture clashā€ for a reason, is what Iā€™m saying. Living in close proximity would probably heighten cultural tension between the clans, not reduce it, especially in an already fraught situation.
Anyway, the thing that appeals to me about Warriors and keeps me dipping back into this well is the elaborate world I get to create based (admittedly loosely) on canon, with the code, the laws, the territories, the history, the cultures, the names, so on. Unfortunately for me, Erin Hunterā€™s preference is actually to erode those things that I personally like best, and they systematically undo the most appealing elements of the series continuously.Ā
The territories? Destroyed. Utterly destroyed.Ā
The names? Increasingly silly nonsense.Ā
The code? Just add something in that undermines the whole concept of the clans, and then--if Iā€™ve heard correctly re: the newest series--just undo the code.Ā
The history? Good luck if you can follow any kind of consistent timeline, and also characters you loved or liked or even just tolerated are now infinitely worse than before, happy super edition!Ā
The culture? Barely there to begin with and yet somehow worse now also, what with Windclanā€™s dirt boys and whatever else.Ā
So Iā€™m not really anywhere near as interested or invested in the post-original territories experience. I write about it from time to time because thatā€™s just where the characters Iā€™m writing about are, but I kind of do it a little bitterly. I took the destruction of my beloved historical sites very personally.Ā

Been thinking about the modernization of the narrative of Good Omens from the novel to the TV series prompted by those last posts.Ā  DISCLAIMER: its actually been a while since i either watched the TV show or read the book so i might be misremembering stuff šŸ˜…
If i remember correctly, in the early stages of production of the TV show Neil Gaiman stated the aesthetics of Heaven and Hell were being updated to be less like countries at war, as they were in the novel, and more like factions of a corporation, with Heaven being the top office and Hell being the basement.Ā  And he said this was to representing the shifting social anxieties of the time - the novel was written on the heels of the Cold War, and so has a lot of spy and soldier aesthetic to it, whereas nowadays we are all looking with a skeptical eye at Disney and Nestle as large corporations do whatever the hell they want without consequences.
I think this modernization is an effective one, but one that changes the flavor of the narrative slightly, and in a way that makes it less appealing to some people and more appealing to others.Ā  One is not necessarily betterĀ than the other, and given one is a new TV show and one is an old novel so itā€™s hardly accurate to compare the size of fanbases, I canā€™t even say one is necessarily more or less appealing/popular than the other.Ā  I think that the TV show was well-made, but there were a few small key changes in the writing that move the narrative away from the reasons why I got absolutely obsessed with the novel.Ā  I think that David Tennant and Michael Sheen did a pretty good job acting the directions and script they were given, my main things I donā€™t like are kind of with the writing decisions (and tbh the costuming still but thatā€™s pettyĀ šŸ™„)
I think itā€™s probably part of my upbringing, which was fundamentalist Protestant and honestly, obsessed with violence, that I donā€™t want to engage with a story where Hell is bad because itā€™s the dirty basement of an office building.Ā  Thatā€™s a legit way to depict Hell, and one that has interesting thematical implications, but I personally want to read stories where Hell is fire and brimstone so that I can watch the protagonists defeat that.Ā  I donā€™t fantasize about breaking free from an office job, or co-workers caught up in office petty politics, stories about finding softness and love amidst an actual war where violence is expected are what appeal to me.Ā  The demons in the TV series are violent, but itā€™s just because theyā€™re mean people, not because thereā€™s a system put in place that forces them to be....which is honestly kind of part of why I liked the universe of the novel so much, because I liked to see Aziraphale and Crowley fight a system that tries to force them to be violent and fight and stuff?
The depiction of a narrativeā€™s bad guy, even with subtle changes, can have some pretty significant impacts on how the audience feels about the narrative if what theyā€™re looking for in the story is catharsis and wish-fulfillment.Ā  For example, I often see people gripe about their DMs including homophobia and transphobia in their world-building in DnD, as though the ideal setting would be free from those things (and indeed, thatā€™s the ideal setting for someone who wants escapism), but if you want to roleplay a character who struggles and overcomesĀ those social issues, because they affect you in real life and you find it cathartic, constructing a world where those issues are very mild is not going to provide the same outlet that being victorious in a truly grimdark world is going to.Ā  Itā€™s not for everyone, but due to the novelā€™s vagueness about certain things, it allowed the fandom some level of flexibility in interpreting theirĀ version of the supernatural in whatever way they wanted (the only other angel we see ā€œon screenā€ other than Aziraphale is Metatron, for like 3 pages, so it was really whatever your imagination cooked up to fill in those gaps), whereas the TV show fandom is working with more concrete building blocks.
This leads me to another gripe I have--making God female.Ā  I understand this appealed hugely to a lot of people because they love the progressive implications of God not being male, and how it upsets religious bigots, but I honestly did not think this was super revolutionary or groundbreaking for the reason that Good Omens is a work of satire--it is criticizingĀ God, and honestly?Ā  I donā€™t think God is super kind and loving in either version of the story, Heaven is harsh and filled with asshole angels, Crowley was thrown out for just asking questions, and God plays games with his/her servants.Ā  Not everyone sees it this way but I honestly feel like God in the GOmens universe is borderline abusive and gas-lighty, as a proxy criticism of the Christian Church, and the church has historically alsoĀ been extremely misogynistic, so I think that aspect of it kind of falls apart when God is suddenly female.
That line about dinosaur bones being a joke that God played on humans hits differently when child-you went to a school that taught creationism in science class and thought you were going to hell if you didnā€™t believe what they told you.
But getting back to my main point, the TV show had the narrative updated for the times much more significantly than the radio play that came out in 2015--for that one, it was mostly cosmetic changes, such as tossing in a mention of X-boxes, whereas the TV show updated the basic narrative structure to reflect changing culture.Ā  I think it was an effective change, but one that made the narrative less appealing to me personally.Ā  A lot of people who were in the fandom before the TV show came out, or who just read the novel after watching the show to compare, seem to agree that the worldbuilding andĀ the characterizations have subtle differences between the two incarnations, which to a casual consumer is not really that noticeable, but if you like one or the other because it hits a veryĀ specific sweet spot it might make a difference.Ā  For me I liked it mostly because it provided a blank canvas with some very good building blocks for, like, my imagination to run off with, and the TV show closed a lot of those avenues by filling them in with something more concrete.Ā  Thatā€™s not necessarily a bad thing and I can see myself experiencing this from the opposite side when I go into fandoms having justĀ consumed the newest incarnation of a thing and quite liked it, only to find the fandom has people who liked it before that adaptation and hate it a lot!Ā  Thatā€™s just the nature of the beast and an inevitable side effect of obsessing over something way more than youā€™re meant to, but itā€™s also why Iā€™m not really interested in reading or writing fanfiction set in the TVĀ ā€˜verse.Ā  Anyway Im kind of rambling now but this is just kinda my thoughts and my onion soĀ if anyone has any other thoughts on it feel free to share your onion with me too :)

Thoughts on, Invader Zim Quarterly: HolidayĀ Special
WEEEE WISH YOU A MERRY JINGLY WE WISH YOU A MERRY JINGLY!
Ahhhhh Itā€™s out! Iā€™m so excited!
But I always get excited when it has my man Membrane and my man Eric Trueheart involved with the comics.Ā
Also santa..Ā  Ā Tbh, I was excited and nervous about this quarterly.Ā
Excited because it has Membrane santa backstory...
But I was nervous because that it means they might bring back the santa-blob monster from the Holiday special on the TV... and The Christmas special is one of my least favorite IZ episodes...Ā  Ā I mean... I rewatch it occasionally, and itā€™s fun, but Iā€™m just kinda used to IZ having more BITE in itā€™s satire if you know what I mean? The Christmas Special in the IZ universe doesnā€™t really say anything about the capitalism of Christmas... itā€™s not like IZ hasnā€™t made fun of capitalism before. (thatā€™s the whole show)Ā  The Christmas Special in the show just kinda fell flat of my expectations of what an Invader Zim episode should be....
The only thing I respect the Holiday Special for, is that it goes down theĀ ā€œSanta isnā€™t realā€ route in a kidā€™s show and sticks to it. (thereā€™s no ā€œreal santaā€ that shows up and ā€œsolves everythingā€) All of theĀ ā€œSantaā€™s Helpersā€ confused the Santa mythos with the Christianity Jesus mythos. (ā€waiting one day for his returnā€) Which makes sense, since IZ is like dystopian future Suburbia Hell. I just kinda like that thereā€™s noĀ ā€œreal santaā€ that interfered toĀ ā€œfix everythingā€ and that Zim himself ended up CREATING Santa when he didnā€™t exist previously. Like I find that kinda cool...
Other then that, I just kinda wanted something else from the Hoilday special then what I got. (It taking priority over scrapped episodes likeĀ ā€œthe trailā€ andĀ ā€œTen minutes to doomā€ andĀ ā€œmopiness of doomā€ does not help itā€™s case in being one of my C-tier episodes...)Ā
So maybe this quarterly will fill the void of what I wanted out of a Holiday special? Well, letā€™s see.Ā
SPOILERS FOR THE QUARTERLY BELOW THE CUT
Tumblr media
Ways to get Dana off-board immediately: Monster Santa is canon.Ā
I always never liked to view the special as canon for ways that it fell flat before.
And I had the excuse of saying that the snowman was an unreliable narrator and I could adapt it down the line in my fic as a different story.Ā
I just didnā€™t like the idea of Monster-horror-blob santa...Ā  Like... Cool design... but he just kinda represents everything I disliked about the special...Ā  (including the major inconsistency of when Takā€™s ship got fixed...)
But then again.. I need to remember IZā€™s lore isnā€™t as consistent as I think it is sometimes...Ā
Okay, fine. Monster blob santa real... what else you got for me, Holiday special?
Tumblr media
FACE HUGGER SANTA! FACE HUGGER SANTA! I AM NOT INTO IT!Ā
Tumblr media
WHAT?! WHAT?! WHAT?! NO. DANA HATES THIS!
Okay, kinda into it because this means that ZIM CREATED SANTA in this mythos... I am dying.... wait.. this takes place in the future then...soo...?
Tumblr media
haoFhaGHAOhfggĀ
It was all a dream?!Ā Ā
GOOD.
my heart couldnā€™t take it if horror-santa was real...Ā
Also... that nightcap and bed... Does this mean weā€™re going to have an Invader Zim Christmas Carol?!?!?! I know thatā€™s been adapted a schmillion times but I would be so into that....Ā
Also... Flying... hamm...
Tumblr media
Good olā€™ Zim... Repressing those memories...Ā Ā
Also this being the THIRD ETF reference in a quarterly, It can be very safe to say the Quarterly issues take place after the events of ETF.
Clembrane exists in the Quarterly, Membrane has robot arms, Zim remembers this (kinda)Ā  Yeah this is definately ETF verse and itā€™s here to stay.Ā
Tumblr media
Christmas Carol?! Iā€™m down for this... and I canā€™t help but notice their claws look familiar
Tumblr media
OH HOLY HELL I WAS RIGHT! THESE GUYS! I LOVE THESE GUYS?!
Why are you here tho?
Tumblr media
Iā€™m a bit lost on why these guys wanta take over the earth, but theyā€™re hilarious so Iā€™m just glad theyā€™re here.
Also...Ā  Ā The Christmas Special is Schrodinger's Christmas... did it happen, or was it a dream, or the tales of a lunatic snowman... I guess Iā€™ll never know.Ā
The issue goes on for an IZ Christmas Carol parody (heck yea) and the visions are all hilarious and Iā€™m not gonna spoil them here... but...
Tumblr media
Eric.... this is terrifying..........thanks I hate it.Ā
Tumblr media
TINY DIB THOUGH! GHAOGHAHGAHAHA
THIS IS GREAT
THE MORE DIB SUFFERS THE MORE I LOVE IT!
ā€œThough I am Dib and sickly fatherā€
Iā€™m dying XDDDDD
Also... What the fuck is Zimā€™s reaction here...Ā
I find it funny that Zim has put Dib into simulated realities before... (in the show and comics) and in the show, Dib is all powerful and in the comics, Dib is just himself and Zim is his brother..
But seeing a simulated Dib all weak and pathetic and chronically ill BOTHERS ZIM?!?!
Thatā€™s... well thatā€™s interesting.Ā
Thought heā€™d laugh at this honestly, but he seems greatly annoyed...Ā
Tumblr media
I CHANGED MY MIND! THIS IS THE BEST THING!Ā
(those who know me know why Iā€™m dying over this)
Tumblr media
YES!!!
ZIM DOESNā€™T LIKE WHEN PEOPLE FEEL BAD FOR HIM OR PITY HIM!Ā
(which confirms like a lot of my hcs and adds spicy kindling to my au much mad respect)Ā
Tumblr media
This I find interesting...Ā  Zim complepative over his lonely/abandoned grave. Itā€™s like he really doesnā€™t know how to feel. Itā€™s more of a numbness then a sadness. Or he noticed how empty his life is...Ā
He feels lonely and empty about it...Ā  which tracks considering how Zimā€™s greatest fear in the Trial was to be deleted and never be remembered by anyone.Ā
I donā€™t know... This panel makes me feel things...
Johnen: Haha. Zimā€™s not that deep a character.
Eric: Hey for the Christmas special, letā€™s have Zim parody a Christmas carol and feel lonely staring at his own empty grave when he realizes no one cares about him or misses him.
Johnen: Cool. Do it.Ā
What are you two assholes doing to me, man?! I have feelings!Ā
Tumblr media
AND ONCE AGAIN!
Zim hates pity and people feeling bad and sorry for him.Ā
Man this makes me so sad...Ā  And it really feels like this issue looked into my brain again, cause I have some plans relating to Zim not wanting sympathy or pity from anyone later down the line (okay Iā€™ll shut up about my au. Weā€™re talking Zim here)
Tumblr media
And of course, Zim breaks everything like he usually does. (this time on purpose)
Also nice callback that Zim remembered that Dib said he liked his boots one time in the Poop-wizard issue.Ā
Also, it ends? I guess this quarterly has a few shorter stories this time... which Iā€™m fine with.Ā
Also, Zim should consider Green and Blue like D-list friends at this point and just invite them in for some fundip or something (come on, Zim, itā€™s Christmas.....)Ā
Tumblr media
GASP!?!?!
LITTLE MEMBRANE!!!
AND GRANDPARENTS CONFIRMED!!!Ā
Wait... so his Parents are scientists too? Is that why he always wanted to be a scientist?
But then wait.... If Membrane inherited Membrane Labs from his parents... Why is HIS FACE the brand of the Company?..... Thereā€™s so much Membrane-face brand merch in the show. (it decorates his home..)Ā
Like even if they were dead, if his parents founded Membrane labs, I feel theyā€™d still be the face. of the company... (thatā€™s how a lot of corporate faces are these days... they show some old dead guy who made the company as opposed to the son who inherited the Company.... Like everyone knows who Walt Disney/Mickey Mouse is, but unless you pay close attention to that kinda thing, not everyone knows who the current chairman or CEO is in the modern age....)
I just find that a bit odd.Ā
Anyways... I feel people can still do what they want with Membraneā€™s parents and get away with it. Iā€™m not changing myĀ ā€œhis parents were farmersā€ headcanon. Sorry comic..
BUT I LOVE THEIR DESIGNS.
I love how Membrane looks a lot like his mother, and his father is just BUFF GAZ with a pipe.... Truely legends.Ā
Tumblr media
GASP!!!
COLLEGEBRANE COLLEGEBRANE COLLEGEBRANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOOKOUT DIB, THIS IS YOUR FUTURE!
I FUCKING LOVE HOW OILY HE LOOKS.. AND IT ADDS UP CAUSE...
Tumblr media
The Membrane Men when they donā€™t shower or bathe in months.....
Someone help these two.
(thank god Membrane got better at personal hygiene.)Ā
Also Teenbrane STILL has his human arms and not his robo-arms.
This means he loses his arms later in life...Ā  YUSH HORRAY FOR HEADCANNONS BEING VALIDATED!
He didnā€™t lose his arms in a shark accident when he was a KID! It happened WAY LATER!
NICE!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OH MY GOD HE IS BABY!
HE IS SO SHY AND ACKWARD! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
I LOVE HIM!
He is just... all sweat and hiding his work but also very passionate and spiteful.Ā
Like you can see who he grew up to become, and you can also see how a kid like Dib came out of a man like him...
But I love social anxiety awkward early twenties/late teens Membrane... He is a baby!Ā
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
MEMBRANE ;w;
Tumblr media
Basically, Membrane knows that Santa isnā€™t real, but he doesnā€™t want to be mad at his parents so he harbors a grudge on Santa instead... THATā€™S SO SWEET Iā€™M CRYINGĀ  TTmTT
LIKE THAT IS SO SWEET AND Iā€™M CRYING!
(also I love how me and Ceph understand Membraneā€™s character too well that the gesture he does in the 2nd panel here are reminisant of our fic so many times... Like we have his mannerisms down and I love when the mask slips from Membrane and we get to see a real person... augh soo good)Ā
Tumblr media
WHO GAVE THEM THE RIGHT TO MAKE MY MAN THIS SAD?! ONLY I CAN MAKE HIM SAD!
Tumblr media
MEMBRANE TTMTT
AUUUGHH
Also probably guessing the parents are dead...Ā  Ā Iā€™m just laughing at their designs...Ā
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
Yes you are, Professor Membrane... Donā€™t let anyone tell you different. (actually, please do) Well, I mean,Ā Ā At least youā€™re trying and get progressively better.
(also... this probably means everytime Dib has asked his Dad for a dangerous weapon to fight Zim with, Membrane just gives it to him no questions asked and Iā€™m doing a MAJOR concern about this manā€™s parenting skills... get help please good sir!)Ā
Also, Dib really saved the day again here (like he did in Dibā€™s big day)
Dib called about destroying santa when Membrane was in one of his lowest points...Ā  He hides it really well...Ā  Ā Especially from his children..
Ah..Ā  I loved that one.
But Iā€™m a huge Membrane Simp though.
I did find the stuff about Membraneā€™s parents a little weird... like I said regarding how Membraneā€™s face is the brand of Membrane labs...
Could be true that they were other scientists and that Membrane founded Membrane labs later... but that seems highly unlikely...Ā
Also... Why does the house look that hug when in the christmas special, it looked kinda like...well... just not that, and kinda more humble from the interior and not some big rocket lab...
So yeah... AMAZING character building for Membrane (which I eat up)
Hilarious Grandparent Designs. But I still prefer @esthyradlerā€‹ ā€˜s Grandparents. The superior Grandparents.
Anyways... The Quarterly was GREAT!Ā
I kinda find it funny the Zim story is the weaker one of the two again... But I honestly blame the Christmas Horror blob connection and the Christmas Carol parody.Ā
Or maybe my Membrane Bias is clouding my mind here.Ā  I do have Zim bias but sometimes Zim can frustrate me. Thereā€™s just so many times Zim can do and say the same things you know? Zim is my baby, but sometimes his denial and annoyance with everyone can be very predictable at points. Zim was just way more fun in the last quarterly than this one.Ā
With Membrane itā€™s more of a blank slate what to do with him cause he ony started really mattering as a character since ETF. Yes, I do love show Membrane, but I admit he wasnā€™t exactly a character then. More of a presence and excuse for why Dib had access to lab equipment. With Dibā€™s Dilemma and this Hoilday special, the Quarterly folks seem determined to turn him into a fully realized character with the rest of the cast and Iā€™m extremely excited to hear that!
(Computer issue/backstory WHEN?!)Ā
I donā€™t really have ratings or systems for these but hope you liked my thoughts.
Merry Christmas everyone.

MCU Phase 4 and 5: What the Multiverse Means for the Future of Marvel Movies and TV
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This article contains Loki spoilers and potential spoilers for the wider MCU.
The ending of the Loki season finale made one pretty substantial change to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The introduction of a full multiverse, caused by Sylvie killing He Who Remains, is an enormous shift in the cosmogony of the MCU. And it opens up some fascinating story possibilities for Marvelā€™s film heroes. So what does the introduction of a full, unlimited multiverse mean for the future of the MCU?
Hopefully, everything. Literally.
There are obvious near-term implications to Lokiā€™s finale. It answered questions that Spider-Man: No Way Home (with its purported multiversal Sinister Six) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness asked back when Loki first premiered. Specifically: ā€œWhat do you mean thereā€™s only one universe?ā€Ā
The beauty of time travel is that now, there is and has always been a full multiverse in the context of the MCU. Because whatever Kang War happened far in Lokiā€™s subjective past (because the timelines were left to run wild when Sophie killed He Who Remains), the entire history of the MCU is now potentially subject to retcons as necessary. So the strong implication from Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse that that movie and all its various spider-people existed on Earths parallel to Tom Hollandā€™s MCU can now be considered accurate, even though the movie came out years before Loki was even a twinkle in Kevin Feigeā€™s master MCU spreadsheet.Ā
Time travel is a trip, man. Itā€™s also beautiful. Literally anything is possible now.Ā
What Does the MCU Multiverse Mean for Marvel TV?
This sort of thing happens all the time in comics. The slang is ā€œretcon,ā€ comics-speak for retroactive continuity, where creators reach into their charactersā€™ pasts to change something that impacts their present.Ā
Lokiā€™s infinite multiverse sets up the entirety of Marvel history for any number of retcons that the folks in charge might deem necessary. It allows current MCU casts and crews to cherry pick what they liked from old MCU projects and fold them into this new normal. All those times Agents of SHIELD didnā€™t quite line up with what the movies were doing? The show was on an alternate Earth! Want Ghost Rider back without the TV baggage? Blame it on a Kang!
And grabbing the stuff that worked from old projects means porting in the good actors, too. That means people like J.K. Simmons, the Platonic ideal of J. Jonah Jameson, can continue playing the role across from three different Spider-Men, or Charlie Cox and Vincent Dā€™Onofrio can show up as Daredevil and Kingpin in Spider-Man: No Way Home while Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings nukes Netflixā€™s Iron Fist continuity from orbit. Ā  Wondering how Ms. Marvel could potentially deal with concepts from the Inhumans without ever mentioning that disastrous TV show? Now we know.Ā
Could the MCU Multiverse Retcon Marvel Movies?
This same ability to pick and choose the continuity most appropriate for the story applies to decisions the movies made, too. A full multiverse lets future filmmakers bring back Chris Evans as Captain America or Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow (OKā€¦maybe not ScarJo) without burdening the MCU with yet another time paradox. As far as weā€™re concerned, pre-Marvel Studios curiosities like all those crazy old live action Marvel TV shows or Howard the Duck or Dolph Lundgrenā€™s take on The Punisher are now officially canon somewhere within the multiverse. Ā
Phil Coulson could show up in Phase 6 leading a Squadron Supreme (just like in the comics), out for vengeance against the Avengers because they let his Earth 20085 brother die. Hell, if they really wanted to get dirty, Nick Fury could hire Deadpool to kill Coulson in retaliation, like in the comics. Wait, that was Secret Empire, wasnā€™t it? Never mind, donā€™t do that.Ā
Anyway, you get the idea.
The possibilities are as infinite as the imaginations of the writers, limited only by Kevin Feigeā€™s patience/sense of humor. Donā€™t expect anything too crazy: the time travel solution in Avengers: Endgame was wild, but before Loki, that was far and away the most ridiculous comic book science the MCU had trafficked in. Typical MCU adaptations include much more modest nods to comicsā€™ wackier elements ā€“ Eternals pending ā€“ like secret societies that had taken over SHIELD or Kurt Russell being Chris Prattā€™s dad. So that ultra-maxi series that starts out a movie, moves into a TV show, has a comic tie in that directly crosses over with the show, and wraps up in Avengers 6 that weā€™re all hoping will come to pass is probably not on the horizon.
The Crisis on Infinite Earths Problem
An infinite multiverse doesnā€™t just mean possibility. It has a trap built in, too. The biggest multiverse story of all time, probably the one that set the template for future interactions with the concept, was DC Comicsā€™ Crisis on Infinite Earths. That book set the standard for multiversal destruction, collapsing DCā€™s infinite comics timelines down to one single Earth and one single timeline. Gone were the separate Earths for the modern Justice League and the World War II Justice Society, replaced by one, unified timeline. And while the comic itself was a masterpiece, miraculously balanced by Marv Wolfman and beautifully drawn by George Perez; what it wrought on the DCU was 30 years of explainers why the Green Lantern of World War II still looked 35, or why Batman has only been operating for five years but went through six Robins in that time.Ā Ā
The cautionary tale here is one of inward looking stories versus expansionary choices. Post-Crisis DC retcons were about fixing problems the writers and editors perceived with the new timeline, and not about telling the best story they could with the characters and continuity they had. This is an easy trap for a new, expanded (but not all the way expanded) MCU to fall into. There are key pieces of the comics that havenā€™t been ported to the films yet.Ā
The Fantastic Four
The temptation is likely huge to use this new, beautiful, infinite multiverse to introduce the Fantastic Four and the X-Men to the MCU. Thatā€™s probably half of a good idea.
The cosmogony of the multiverse is ingrained in who the Fantastic Four are. Their story begins as explorers of the unknown ā€“ Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Ben Grimm, and Johnny Storm are bombarded with cosmic radiation after an unauthorized space launch. That origin is very of the time when they were created, and would probably hit different now when the only unauthorized space launches are led by giant assholes. So why not take a page from the end of Secret Wars and have them get their powers exploring the new multiverse? It makes so much sense to do it that way that one is almost suspicious of this entire retcon. But that doesnā€™t make it any less cool.
The X-Men in the MCU
While introducing the Fantastic Four to the MCU by saying theyā€™ve been off exploring the multiverse would make a certain elegant sense, if Marvel tried to introduce the X-Men that way, it would be hugely problematic.Ā
The core concept of the X-Men is the mutant metaphor, the idea that mutants are hated and feared because of who they are. On a completely superficial level, this is nonsense: whatā€™s the difference between Cyclopsā€™ eye blasts and Captain Marvel zapping Kree ships with fist beams? Why are mutants singled out for scorn and bigotry when someone like Doctor Strange has MUCH more terrifying abilities?
The difference is the idea that mutants are humanityā€™s destiny. Thereā€™s no concern that the majority baseline human population is going to someday be replaced by handsome super-soldiers or radioactive Catholic lawyers. But that genetic distinction ā€“ the idea that Magneto and Apocalypse and Pixie and Skids all share a distinct identity, while Captain America and Daredevil and Dr. Druid and Tigra do not ā€“ creates tension that allows real world out groups to superimpose their struggles onto X-Men comics and makes them infinitely relatable.
As superficially attractive as the idea of plopping the mutants on their own parallel Earth might be (and trust me, this definitely seems like the simplest justification for keeping Hugh Jackmanā€™s Wolverine and Ryan Reynoldsā€™s Deadpool in the MCU while jettisoning anything else that is less appealing for audiences or studio execs), putting the mutants on their own separate Earth strips that struggle from the story and makes them just another cape crew.
Worse, using the multiverse as justification that suddenly mutants are here because they came from a parallel timeline disrespects the marginalized people who identify with the X-Men who, like left-handed people, have been here the whole time. Whether society noticed or not.
The Sony Spider-Man Problem
What keeps me up at night about the new Marvel multiverse is the Spider-Man family. The Marvel/Sony relationship has always beenā€¦complicated.Ā
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
While the new multiverse provides creators with endless storytelling opportunities that could expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it also sets up an easy out for the studios to separate the Spider-Man movies from the rest of the MCU. Cleaving off the Spider-family movies wouldnā€™t be great ā€“ I donā€™t need to be reminded of complicated business deals while Iā€™m at the movies. Dedicating all of a future Spidey movie to explaining why Pete isnā€™t in the master MCU and canā€™t talk about Iron Man anymore would almost certainly be a nightmare.
But these inward-looking continuity fixes are the types of stories that Marvel, on page and on screen, has generally avoided (before you jump in the comments to shout ā€œCLONE SAGAā€ please take into account how much work ā€œgenerallyā€ is doing in this sentence) with its big multiverse stories. Hopefully theyā€™ll keep making those wise decisions going forward.

Love Interests of the MCU
Bout to write some criticism of the MCU, if you donā€™t like, donā€™t read? Or do, Iā€™m a poster not a cop. Click to read more, if youā€™re interested. Also, spoilers.
A problem in the MCU, to be honest. Weā€™ll get into this here and youā€™ll see what I mean.
Jane Foster, MCU: An airhead, breathy absent-minded professor astrophysicist. Ok, cool, a STEAM lady.... who is constantly a damsel in distress in both movies and really adds nothing to Thorā€™s mythos or character. In fact, Erik Selvig is a more important character being set up in Thor to be a pawn of Lokiā€™s for Avengers. Darcy Lewis is a more interesting character AND SHEā€™S SIDE CHARACTER AS WELL. (For those following MCU: SHE IS IN WANDAVISION for crying out loud)
And both Selvig and Darcy have less screen time than Jane. I donā€™t blame the actress, because I think Natalie Portman is very talented. But that role can only give you so much to work with when your entire personality is ā€˜Iā€™m an astrophysicist and absent-minded professor trope.ā€™ Thatā€™s it? Thatā€™s all Jane Foster is? ā€˜Cause thatā€™s all I ever got from her.
Seriously youā€™re going to waste Natalie Portman on such a shallow role?
VS
Comics Jane Foster: A well-trained EMT (Or Nurse, but still) who immediately runs toward danger to help people, is a damsel out of distress trope, doesnā€™t take crap from men, is a fan of cricket, regularly also fought with Thorā€™s enemies (as in comics Thor was not originally god-Thor but Donald Blake, who was worthy enough to use Thorā€™s hammer). Was not afraid to sass or stand up to heroes (or villains!) who harassed her after she found out Thorā€™s identity. Hmmm...
Christine Palmer, MCU: A surgeon at the same place Strange works at! Who likes him, because they work together! Totally not afraid to stand up to him even though lots of people already call him out on his arrogance and egomania. Dated in the past but somehow together again, and has no personality beyond ā€˜surgeonā€™ and ā€˜ex-girlfriend who gives speech to remind ex that life is about [insert moral here]ā€™
WOW. SO INTERESTING. I TOTALLY REMEMBERED THAT SHE EXISTED
Also what a waste of Rachel McAdams talents. I mean she got THIRD BILLING AND SHEā€™S BARELY IN THE FUCKING MOVIE.
VS
Clea, Comics: Princess of the Dark Dimension and Niece of Dormammu and ALSO DR. STRANGEā€™S IN-COMICS WIFE. Sheā€™s so well known as his love interest that at first I thought thatā€™s what they were going to go for in his movie, esp with Rachel McAdams as the Third Billed ACTOR. But yeah, Clea, traditional love interest, super magically potent, likes earth, hates her evil uncle, just wants to learn more magic and live with Strange.
BUT NO HOW COULD WE POSSIBLY HAVE A FEMALE CHARACTER WITH ACTUAL POWERS. IT TAKES US UNTIL FUCKING AGE OF ULTRON TO GET WANDA, THOR 3 TO GET VALKYRIE AND YEARS (FUCKING YEARS) TO GET CAPTAIN MARVEL
Not that the others did not take years, but Carol only showed up RIGHT around the time Christianized Wonder Woman showed up in Snyderverse...
Cleaā€™s comics personality isnā€™t that different from any of these other characters, but honestly, the MCU couldā€™ve done a lot with her and used a character far more well connected to Strange in his own fucking movie.
Nakia: Again, an ex-girlfriend who used to work for Tā€™Challa but couldnā€™t due to [insert morality speech here] and now, suddenly, they are back together! Because Tā€™Challa is doing things! Wonder what comics Nakia is like...
OH YIKES OK MOVIE IMPROVED HER, THEY IMPROVED HER SO MUCH. (Comics Nakia: 16 year old obsessive/possessive supervillain and yeeeeaaah thatā€™s just....No. Big olā€™ NOPE). Still I forget she exists. Tbh Iā€™d forget Okoye exists either if she wasnā€™t HAVING MORE SCREEN TIME THAN THE LOVE INTEREST.
Iā€™m starting to notice a trend here...
VS
Monica Lynne, Comics: A more major love interest for Black Panther and more tied to his mythos. Arguably his most used Love Interest that isnā€™t Storm who is legally not allowed to be in the MCU anyway so she is unavailable for BP, which is a fucking shame. Personality wise, not much different, but Lynne isnā€™t as tied to Wakanda as any of the others.
Honestly I donā€™t know all that much about Black Panther so if anyone else does and wants to weigh in on a better love interest choice (THAT IS NOT STORM), please tag me.
Further, though, Monica could have given a deeper view into the complex experience of being a successful black woman in America to contrast with Erikā€™s storyline and have Tā€™Challa hear more than just one singular experience.
But thatā€™s just a hot take on my part.
Pepper Potts:
Thereā€™s no VS here because Virginia ā€œPepperā€ Potts is arguably the absolute closest MCU came to matching up with her comics counterpart. Fiery, intelligent, doesnā€™t take Tonyā€™s shit and calls him on it, doesnā€™t take anyoneā€™s shit toward her. Sheā€™s a bit more tame in the MCU and wildly OOC in Iron Man 3 so I donā€™t count that movie as canon, but honest to god, thereā€™s nothing bad to say here about her character adaptation. A good job was done.
Hope Van Dyne: Again, a very good adaptation; most likely taking different characters together so because her comics counterparts are two separate entities, Hope has to be judged solely on her movie version. Her and Scott have good chemistry, sheā€™s a good character in her own right. Only suffers from the trope of ā€˜Defrosting Ice Queenā€™ which you can tell because her hair and makeup get less severe as she ā€˜defrostsā€™
Better in the first movie than the second, where even though HER NAME WAS IN THE TITLE AS ā€˜THE WASPā€™ she was barely in it and sidelined by all the villains and side characters. For those interested, theories believe she is pulled from Nadia Pym (616 verse) and Hope Pym (982 verse)
Sif: Thorā€™s other in-comics and in-myth love interest/sometimes wife, absolutely side-lined, never given more than a few lines in any movie and despite having a supposedly epic backstory, we never see it. No one questions what the FUCK happened to Sif in Thor 3 because she has mysteriously vanished with Thor giving 0 fucks about where his remaining childhood friend went since she is the only one NOT KILLED OFF UNCEREMONIOUSLY (A different rant for a different problem)
So whatā€™s there to say but why even include her as part of a love triangle if her absence is so unnotable that no one cares what happens to her
Gamora: Again, Iā€™m not as familiar with her character, but like Pepper she seems to be a good adaptation, if made less of an anti-hero/villain in the MCU and given a bit of a softer side. Her romance with Star-Lord/Peter Quill is weak, however. Might be because of the actors but I donā€™t really see it? She has more emotional moments with her sister than ANYONE ELSE (Up until Infinity War with Quill and Thanos meeting)
The main problem we are running into, however, is look at this list. Look at how many female characters who are the love interest are demoted to be SOLELY THAT ROLE.
Please discern the difference for me, IN PERSONALITY between Christine Palmer and Jane Foster. Because aside from their professions, I donā€™t see any, do you? The fact that a good chunk of female characters in the MCU are the Love Interest and solely the love interest is....bad
Itā€™s bad. Itā€™s poor writing and it has consistently been done to more female characters than male. I just donā€™t see why the writers canā€™t do this basic thing.
1. Create/Adapt Character A as a full, three dimensional character
2. Create/Adapt Character B as a full, three dimensional character
3. Put A and B together romantically if they click
DONE. SIMPLE. EASY.
Also
4. Do not erase character personalities but remember what made them a good romantic pairing in the first place.

If I may one last director's cut: And the Nightmare Collapses? šŸ‘ļø
Ask as many as you want i dont mind.
Oh my monster au, what to say? I had this in the backburner for a few months now. Originally i was going to make a series of one shots from different characters perspectives.
So first it was going to be Jon waking up from the coma and realizing that everyone were monsters but him sort of like a walking dead scenario. I had the clear picture of him seeing Georgie in her hald deaf state being like, what the fuck happened???
Now the entire idea came to mind with how pissed off i was at everyone in season four acting like Jon was the worst for no discernable reason. Like, Melanie, Basira and Georgie, all treated him in different levels rather cruely. Georgie wasnt so mean, but she was playing blind eye to the whole thing being fucked.
So Jon is the only one who remains human because he tries so hard to keep his humanity despite everything. While everyone else becomes more monstruos, Basira and Melanie in particularly were much more affected, i had a clear vision of a slaughter Mel. But had to keep it brief since Georgie wouldnt want to dwell on her becoming a monster, since now she had no way to deny it. Daisy gets a pass because while on the coffin she regains her humanity by her regret of what she became, its why her changes are minimal in the text.
The other one shots were supposed to be from Elias and Peter perspective with the last being them reuniting.
Now my original idea had no reasoning as to why they were monsters all out sudden. Its not until i realized the potential of the entities just dropping in a world similar enough where they already existed and they end up overcharging, while still carrying the vestigies of the apocalipse that i went like-
Hoy fuck.
Ultimately i am happy with the one shot the way it came out, with Elias being able to see, he was capable of tying up those little threads i wanted to make and make the reference to having an anchor. Anchors tie you to humanity, people are fundamentaly capable of good if they wish too, kindness even in the face of despair, destroys the horrors of the world.
The world wont fix itself, but you adapt and grown and try to make it better.
Now as for the story itself? I just wanted to go buck wild with the scenery of reality fracturing itself and Elias just losing it while perceiving the horrors and understanding far more than possible.
I like eldritch horror i just dont use it enough, or horror shorts in general, maybe i should put up the small ones i made in tumblr they are like a paragraph long each.
For realsies, I really like the idea of monster Elias for several reasons and i wanted to go with it. I have another different take on this verse of how things pan out too, but i will see eventually if i want to write it. There is... also the horny aspec of Peter being, as the fic implies, a monster fucker, not really he just loves Elias whatever shape he comes even if its some weird owl spider thing. If i ever feel brave enough to go thought it in an extra will shall see.
Anyways Jonah goes through life replacing people while manipulating them and toying with their sanity like he did to the ogElias in his interview. Despite being beholding, as per the soup theory, at this point he also represents the stranger, web and spiral fairly well. I have a soft soft for him losing the ability to recognize himself after a while. Because as i pointed out? He kept sort of a more or less stable life, sure, but it must be jarring having to go from one face to another, to have to pretend to be someone else, at least enough that its not glaringly obvious that something is wrong.
So he loses it. The fears overcharge and it all stacks up on him, causing his transformation to be so strong, it ends up consuming him. Not only that but he is vain too, so to be changed into something so horryifing it breaks something else in him, it gives him the idea that no one could want him now, he cant make people do as he says like this, he doesnt know himself and now no one would want to know him anyways. The more he changes the more he loses his sense of self, its not only him, he was so many people it feels weird to be just him, it doesnt fit anymore, so through the story he starts to use they until its what he mainly uses at the end, because he grows and its happy with it by the very end.
His body changes when he doubts himself, the more time it passes the more he forgets. Now the main reason he didnt become a puddle of ink and die, was because as i mentioned he thought about being alone, and it made him think of Peter, that was his last connection, the last thread to a humanity he wasnt sure he still had. When he thinks that he loves him, even if a little, its enough to let him move.
That small lifeline is what actually saved him and what kept him more or less stable for longer that he would have otherwise. Same goes to Peter whos last action before becoming one with his siblings was pick up the phone, the same though went through him, its why even if he was already at the brink of being melded he kept himself alive for longer.
Then there was the idea of copies.
Because, eyes? just the eyes?? I know it works with supernatural energy but, the doubt, the idea or posibility that Jonah Magnus actually died the moment he transplanted his eyes the first time and that Beholding merely put the copied memories of Jonah that it reatained into the new body was such a good concept, i have a special love for it, to not be sure if you are you, but ultimately chosing to live your life despite knowing that you may not be the real one.
I like to point out at the end that he does, that he is the original and that he is not a copy but... its not really proof, Jonah wants to believe it is. Wether is true or not? Thats up to anyone.
Also his monster concept, i toyed with a few options, and ended up adding it somewhat in the final product, originally he was going to be sort of an owl monster sort of mixed with a cat, no not for the joke, i saw really nice fanart of owlcats and i was in love. But as it is i went with something similar to his body in the afterlife beach party.
Instead of tar it was the ink of the letters he wrote, the static remains because he doesnt know his face anymore and he wont again. The fur... i just wanted something nice for later when Peter made his appearence, less sticky more fluffy. 8 arms like a spider, more eyes because of beholding- you get it.
Speaking of Peter!!
Here is the deal, i know or at least believe that the curruption? Is the oposite of the lonely and viceversa. Wanting to be alone vs being consumed by what you love? Perfect.
So the Lukases become amalgamations of fog trapped in a hive mind that they cant escape from. Forced to be together and then to be alone once someone manages to impose themselves like Nathaniel did. Peter could have theorically left his siblings become him, after Elias saw them, but in this, the closenes they shared was enought that he could not do it. <3<3
I wanted to play with the fact that being stuck with so many people, mainly his sisters while slowly melding into one, made him switch from pronouns feeling comfortable in all of them. Lydia, Judith and Clara were all nice and accidentaly he wanted to feel that nice, so he switches more often to her. It too, because at one point he was litreally nothing since the rest were rather happy being one.
Reality check comes and they all realize that, oh shit we fucked him up. Hence the road trip, unfortunately the melding was inevitable, either they became one or someone took charge. Still it gives them time to bond too, which adds to the decision to let them stay with him despite everything. Peter plays into a similar idea, but from a different perspective, you lose yoursef but become a different person. Luka is all of them being at peace with being one, being happy and wanting the same thing, but still mantaining some way to be apart. If i was being sappy i would liken it to a fusion in Steven Universe.
It wasnt as such at first, but later once Peter is the main body they can do it with less fear of dissapearing. It is also true that his feelings bleed out onto them and likewise to him. Its hard being a single being while simultaniously be 5 people in one.
They do love Elias, except for Clara who is mostly just enjoying the company while judging everyones tastes. It is also true that if this hadnt happened they would never have tried it. But life works oddly. Plus they are happy.
The world cant be fixed, but life sort of goes on and people adjust as they can.
Final note? I really, reeeeally wanted to have JME corpses just drop and have everyone freak out. There was a brief idea of having them alive and react to what they did to the world, but i did not want to deal with that many explanations. So yeah, they are dead.
AGAIN SORRY FOR GOING OFF!!! I NEED TO BE STOPPED.
D:
If you want to ask something in particular go ahead i have the ideas still fresh for this one in my head.

Soooo, I did mention this before and I might as well give more on her.Ā
Let me introduce yā€™all to my Watch Dogs OC, Eden Bane. Well, she is more of a multi-verse OC, which means she can adapt to any universe I put her in. Correction: She is more so that in terms of rping. Her main and default verse is Watch Dogs, which has a lot of information more than any other universes I put her in. Besides my bookā€™s universe that is.Ā
Anyways, I had her for almost six months now. I knew Watch Dogs before that, but never joined the fandom until Late May - early June. June 9th is the official date that I introduced Eden to the world. I was in process of making her a day or two before then though. I had no intentions of naming her Eden. In fact, I was struck on choosing a name and made my roommate choose the name for her, which she chose Eden.Ā
Itā€™s funny cause of how similar her name spells like and pronounce as to Aiden. When I realized that info, I start making jokes about how some of the Watch Dogs characters can mistaken their names if they werenā€™t careful enough, making both get confused on who is being referred to or called to. Some of my friends begun to start shipping them too, which makes it even funnier when it comes to their ship name. Even one of my friends couldnā€™t come up with a ship name because of how similar their names is. Their ship name would basically be their own names.Ā
Moving on, Eden is a woman in her late thirties. The exact age is unknown. She is described to be a cheerful, energetic, and chaotic woman, who - if yā€™all havenā€™t known yet - has a thing for creating chaos. Itā€™s why thereā€™s mostly two types of relationships she has. Either people are annoyed by her presence and wants her out of their lives, which is difficult to do, or they join her on her chaotic spree. The reason why I say itā€™s difficult for her to get rid of because once she is in your life, she is there for a long time, no matter what type of relationship she has with you. She always seem to find her way into your life, regardless of what you do.Ā
Her chaotic nature is the reason why she has another identity called Cha0tic. Selective few know the connections between the two. Otherwise, everyone is clueless of who Cha0tic really is. So many stories and rumors came up because of that. Eden even made sure there is little to nothing that would connect the two as one person. She even made sure her mannerisms, body language, speech pattern, appearance, e v e r y t h i n g, is different as Cha0tic. When she was younger,Ā  she had a different name. It was a little before she had to rescue her sister that she changed her name to Cha0tic and kept it since then.Ā
During the events of the first Watch Dogs, Eden kept a low profile. She kept off the radar for a little while to help her sister out. Annie - the name of her sister - been through a lot. So, Eden wanted to avoid causing too much trouble. Unfortunately, one of the jobs she had to do resulted in her having to kill off some members of the Chicago Southclub. For a little bit, Lucky Quinn was confused on who was behind it. It wasnā€™t until Brad, a shitty ex boyfriend of Edenā€™s, came in and pointed fingers. How he knew is unknown. EdenĀ  and her best friend had to deal with Lucky Quinn and later Iraq. Shortly before Iraq was dealt with, he ended up killing Edenā€™s best friend. After he was dealt with and solving the problems with Lucky Quinn, Eden left Chicago and disappeared for a little while. Whatever happened during those years is unknown exactly.Ā
She was later found in San Francisco. During that time, she remained to work alone before joining Dedsec. Itā€™s quite surprising to see such things cause she normally worked alone. But since joining and getting closer to the members, she ended up helping out a lot with Dedsec. Even can be seen helping in Legion.Ā  I like to mention that Eden was in Chicago when she was a teenager. Up until she was able to move out on her own and left Chicago to live on her own. Since thirteen years old (or rather a little before), she had been into the hacking business. She only went into it because of her sister, Annie. Their father was a shitty person, which is why Annie ran away from home. Eden wanted to make sure her sister was okay.Ā
At one point, she did get separated from her twin sister for like ten years before they were reunited again. While Willow did hacking on the side, Eden had it for a full time thing.Ā
Thereā€™s a whole bunch of other information to drop, but like I said, itā€™s a lot. I donā€™t want yā€™all to read a long ass post. I do like to mention that Eden has Russian and Indian in her. Out of all of her siblings, excluding Willow, Eden looks more like her father. She looks like she is adopted because of her olive skin. Donā€™t think she is scrawny either. She is pretty built. She hides her body under her baggy clothes.Ā
