“For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet or excite you. Books help us understand who we are and how we are to behave. They show us what community and friendship mean; they show us how to live and die.”
~ Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

I just rearranged some furniture in my home office because of Guy the Cat. I recently bought a big comfy chair for reading, and of course Guy has claimed it as his own (as well as “his” recliner in the den). Now, the reading chair is next to the office desk so Guy can sit beside me when I’m working instead of behind me, where he would meow repeatedly until I turned around and paid attention to him. It looks a bit weird, but please tell me I’m not the only person who has rearranged furniture for their cat.

A Well Lit Reading Chair March 2024 | Jefferson City TN ( public library) Digital The nostalgic light that flows through windows. Midday. My sister and I were visiting the local library and I went looking for that light, it was the right time of day, those days when sitting in the sunlit part of a climate controlled place, looking out the window and watching the people outside going about their lives. listening to the bustle or silence surrounding you. Maybe it's the clinic, maybe it's the class room, maybe it's a library somewhere far away, in the sense of both space and time.
