Perhaps Viconia and Sarevok are changelings 🥲
I'd take any explanation that fixes the shitshow that are these two quests, major quests mind you, not side quests you can ignore. It'd be funny if they were changelings, because they'd be pretty lousy ones. Or rather a lousy one, and one who doesn't have to do much work (warning: I started ranting)
I mean, for reminder, this is viconia:
Tumblr media
And this is... a drow:
Tumblr media
Skintone: wrong
Age: they were drunk or they didn't try, possibly both. Viconia is a drow, a full elf, meaning +700 years of life expectancy, and they made her look as old as Jaheira, a half-elf. A 100 years should be nothing to her, she should look basically the same.
Distinctive marks: her beauty mark above her lip on the left side of her face isn't there. It's like Jaheira's braids or Minsc's tatoo, it sets her apart. Without it, it's not her.
As for Sarevok, well, with his armour and his helmet, you see like 1/4 of his face, you could put anyone in there, and slap face paint on. So not too much work for a changeling.
But if it makes you feel any better, you can actually get in game clues that hint neither of those characters are who they claim to be. These hints are never remarked upon or pointed out by any characters, you have to find them and take the time to read them.
This, for example, is the description of the drow's dress (also BG 3 has a problem with treating its clerics like anime healers. This is DnD, clerics wear mail or plate, unless they multiclass with wizard, but I digress):
Tumblr media
Dulls senses, thoughts, feelings... sounds like a good dress for brainwashing, not having an efficient cleric. It's not hard to imagine Shar being salty enough that Viconia left her cult that she picked another of her drow cleric to take Viconia's identity. Keep her 'working' for her in spirit as payback. One of Shar's whole thing is about forgetting all, including yourself. Switching her followers' identity to suit her whims wouldn't be out of place. I could see a 'Shadowheart' mother superior in the future, with little in common with her template beside being a half-elf. Shar is the type to hold grudges. Ask Selûne.
Now Sarevok comes with a failsafe too. Let's ignore's Jaheira's delirious episode where she spouts absolute nonsense that has no basis in either BG 1 or 2. She's not that young anymore, she's spent time in the shadowlands and she has kids to look after, she's under a lot of stress. We'll call it a breakdown.
If you dig around for loot, you can come across this book: Disorders of the Nerves and Mind: A Treatise
Tumblr media
Here you read about how a totally random guy started calling himself 'Sarevok' and talking about 'raising the father', after finding (and reading?) a strange book.
If you remember the previous games, you may recall a dream sequence in SoA:
Tumblr media
Bhaal is perfectly capable of using Sarevok's appearance for his avatar. If you add to that the fact that before he was killed by Cyric, he was already too weak to have his own form and only existed through possessing the bodies of murderers, well, it's not hard to imagine Bhaal using a random murderer's body and passing it off as Sarevok. He's the first Bhaalspawn who rebelled and tried to usurp him, you can't tell me Bhaal isn't salty about that.
Now obviously, this is me drawing conclusions from scraps found within the game. I don't think it's a 'fix-it', or that it makes Sarevok and Viconia's butchered characterization alright. Especially since these scraps don't mean anything in the narration. I've said it before, but they read like room for deniability, they feel too specific not to be. Like someone knew it was trash and they tried to patchwork an exit. But like I said, without relevance to the narrative, it's meaningless.
Regardless of any explanation, as far as I'm concerned, neither of the people we encounter are the real Sarevok, or the real Viconia.

The Scorpion
▓▓▓▓ ▓▓ (E-15293362) is a female of Vietnamese origin. For 9 counts of 1st degree murder, drug possession and distribution, possession of unregistered firearms, driving under the influence, assault and battery, reckless endangerment, and contempt of court, E-15293362 was sentenced to death by lethal injection on ▓▓/▓▓/▓▓▓▓. The court also offered life imprisonment in Urbanshade Testing Facilities, which E-15293362 accepted.
E-15293362 exhibits extremely violent and disturbed behavior. At least one armed guard is to monitor its cell at all times.
Z-532 - Codename: “The Scorpion” (formerly E-15293362) is a female of Vietnamese origin, wearing an EXR-P “Template” jumpsuit. Notable differences to an average human are the presence of a large tail, about 3 ft in length, a scorpion's stinger, about 6 ft in length, and fins where its ears would be. (Z-532's actual ears are small holes behind said fins.) Under its jumpsuit are gills on the side of its waist and fins similar to the ones on its head sprouting from its hips. It produces a potent neurotoxin from its stinger, though not able to kill any human, is enough to paralyze one for up to 5 hours. Z-532 itself seems to be immune to this effect.
Z-532 was originally an EXR-P unit, being sent to the Hadal Blacksite to retrieve loose assets under the pretense of being returned to the surface if enough are secured. Upon retrieval, Dr. ▓▓▓▓▓▓ declared that Z-532 was unfit to be returned to society, and it was placed back into the Blacksite for containment.
Z-532 displays a belief that it is still a member of the EXR-P program, being reported to join other groups on their expedition to retrieve Z-1, albeit for a short time. It shows a remarkable ability to stay alive, even through massive amounts of damage inflicted to it. It is currently unknown whether this is from its mutations or overconsumption of medkits scattered throughout the Blacksite.
Z-532 is described as “really ****ing stupid” and “mostly harmless to others, at least,” so it is currently regarded as a non-issue. However, at the first sign of rebellion, its PDG will be detonated, killing it instantly.
If these documents are shown to unauthorized personnel, you'll be put up for demotion, and any cover-up fees will be sent to your relatives.
▓▓/▓▓/▓▓▓▓ [Test 1]:
Dr. Patton requested E-15293362 to his office for testing purposes. Subject was injected with the DNA of a vermillion rockfish (male). The following conversation was recorded.
E-15293362: “WHAT THE HELL? WHAT THE **** DID YOU DO TO ME? WHAT WAS THAT? I'LL KILL YOU! I'LL KILL YOU!!”
Dr. Patton: “Calm down, ▓▓▓▓. You-”
E-15293362: “DON'T ****ING CALL ME THAT! THAT'S THE NAME MY MOTHER GAVE ME, NOT FOR SOME ****ING ***HOLE SCIENTIST TO USE!”
Dr. Patton: “Ms. ▓▓, then. Your symptoms should begin appearing in 2 to 3 days. Until then, you will be heavily sedated to prevent outlash.”
E-15293362: “DON'T YOU DARE INJECT ME WITH ANYTHING ELSE.”
Dr. Patton: “▓▓▓▓▓▓? Hold her down while I administer the sedatives.”
▓▓▓▓▓▓: “Yes, sir.”
[Note: Subject was returned to her cell after the sedatives took effect.]
[End recording.]
▓▓/▓▓/▓▓▓▓ [Interview 1]:
E-15293362 was brought back into Dr. Patton's lab for a diagnostic test and interview. Subject had become feverish, and reported feeling nauseous. Guards report unwillingness to eat any food given, as well as vomiting and screaming during the night. A growth resembling a tail had begun to sprout from subject's gluteal region. The following conversation was recorded.
Dr. Patton: “Hello again, Ms. ▓▓. How are you feeling?”
E-15293362: “Like ****. What the hell do you want from me?”
[Note: Subject seems less aggressive than in Test 1.]
Dr. Patton: “I hear you haven't been eating well?”
E-15293362: “I haven't been hungry. What does it matter to you?”
Dr. Patton: “I wanted to ask you a few questions, and then do some medical examination.”
E-15293362: “I don't have a choice, do I?”
Dr. Patton: “No, you don't. Why did you kill those people?”
E-15293362: “He told me to.”
Dr. Patton: “And who is ‘he’?”
E-15293362: “My boyfriend.”
Dr. Patton: “I see. And you killed him, too. Why?”
E-15293362: “He pissed me off. He tried to leave me. He was the only person I had.”
Dr. Patton: “And what about your family?”
E-15293362: “You ask a lot of questions, don't you?”
Dr. Patton: (laughing) “It's my job.”
E-15293362: “It's not funny.”
Dr. Patton: “Why did you sell drugs and weapons? For money?”
E-15293362: “Yes.”
Dr. Patton: “Did you ever use your own stock? Any drugs at all?”
E-15293362: “No.”
Dr. Patton: “Why didn't you get a real job?”
E-15293362: “That's none of your business.”
[Note: Subject was unresponsive to any further questioning.]
[End recording.]
▓▓/▓▓/▓▓▓▓ [Test 2]:
Dr. Patton requested E-15293362 for further testing. Subject was injected with the DNA of an indian red scorpion (male) and red mermaid-tail betta (female). Subject's tail-like growth has further developed, thickening significantly. Its outer ears had also begun regressing into its flesh. The following conversation was recorded.
E-15293362: “You.”
Dr. Patton: “Hello again, Ms. ▓▓.”
E-15293362: “Don't. Don't. Don't you ****ing dare.”
Dr. Patton: “What do you mean?”
E-15293362: “You. What the **** did you put into me? Am I not suffering enough? AM I NOT IN ENOUGH PAIN FOR YOU?!”
Dr. Patton: “Now, ▓▓▓▓-”
E-15293362: “DON'T ****ING CALL ME THAT! I AM NOT YOUR FRIEND! WHAT THE **** IS WRONG WITH YOU? DO YOU ONLY THINK ABOUT YOURSELF? I THINK I'D RATHER HAVE GOTTEN KILLED! ARE YOU ****ING INSANE?!?”
[Note: Subject began pulling against her constraints, attempting to attack Dr. Patton.]
Dr. Patton: “Ms. ▓▓, calm down.”
E-15293362: “ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING?? I'M NOT GONNA DO **** FOR YOU! **** YOU! **** YOU! YOU SHOULD ****ING DIE!! YOU SHOULD ****ING KILL YOURSELF!”
Dr. Patton: “▓▓▓▓▓▓▓, cover its mouth, please.”
E-15293362: “IT? IT?!? AM I A ****ING THING FOR YOU? A TOY TO **** AROUND WITH??? **** Y–”
[Note: Subject had its mouth covered and was injected with sedatives before being returned to its cell.]
[End recording.]
▓▓/▓▓/▓▓▓▓ [Interview 2]:
E-15293362 requested to see Dr. Patton again. Subject’s ‘tail’ has fully developed now, resembling an elongated rockfish's tail with desaturated coloring. What appear to be gills have grown from where its ears used to be, matching the color of the tail. A small scorpion stinger has begun to develop above Subject’s tail. Guards report a significant shift in behavior, claiming E-15293362 “acts drunk.” The following conversation was recorded.
E-15293362: “Hi, doctor!”
Dr. Patton: “...Hello, Ms. ▓▓. You requested to see me?”
E-15293362: “I feel loopy… What's wrong with my head..?”
[Note: Subject is slurring its words, drawing out syllables, and is speaking considerably slower than average.]
Dr. Patton: “I'm not sure I understand. Can you describe more of your symptoms?”
E-15293362: “My head feels silly… My head feels… forget-y… and I can't hear very good.”
Dr. Patton: “Interesting. Is that the only reason you wanted to see me?”
E-15293362: “It hurts.”
Dr. Patton: “Pardon?”
E-15293362: “It hurts. It hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT HURTS IT–”
[Note: Subject fell unconscious, presumably from pain.]
[End recording.]
Ending notes: Subject was administered Tylenol and returned to its cell. Dr. Patton theorizes that its change in behavior can be attributed to the neurotoxins being produced by Subject's scorpion DNA. Which organ is producing these neurotoxins is unknown, but it seems to be accumulating in its newly developing ‘stinger.’
▓▓/▓▓/▓▓▓▓ [Review]:
E-15293362's stinger has fully developed, and is roughly the same height as the subject (6’1 at the time of recording.) Subject’s production of neurotoxins will provide useful for human weaponry in the future, as observed side effects are naïveté and willingness to follow commands without question.
Addendum 1: E-15293362 has been enrolled in the EXR-P program with the promise of freedom if enough loose assets are secured. E-15293362 is fully expected to be killed in action.
Addendum 2: E-15293362 has successfully retrieved 2000 assets, unharmed. However, it is not fit to be returned to civilization. E-15293362 will be reclassified and returned to the Hadal Blacksite under pretense of its work not being complete.

Reblog this if you want readers to come into your ask box and ask for the “director’s commentary” on a particular story, section of a story, or set of lines.  Or, send in a ⭐star⭐  to have the author select a section they’ve been dying to talk about!
Okay, so bear with me as I type this half-asleep...
long hair & tattoos (lh&t as someone kindly abbreviated; I love it!!) is obviously my baby or my first-born child, if you will. Obviously, the tropes aren't original, but it was my fake-dating template for sunburns & dragons (let's call that sb&d). You'll see the chapters mirror each other. For example:
Chapter 1: The dinner
Chapter 2: Talking to Fred/George
Chapter 3: Meeting Bill/Charlie
Chapter 4: Making plans
Chapter 5: Meeting the parents
Chapter 6: An argument with the parents
Chapter 7: Talks about moving in together...
Okay, so I want to talk about the moving in part. I don't think I'm any sort of expert on Bill and Charlie's characters nor could I give good advice on how to write them, but I tried to make the distinct in the same situations.
Bill (lh&t) (Chapter 7):
“I don’t mind it, really,” Bill responded. It seemed like he’d been thinking about what happened at dinner, too. “If the penthouse is as big as your father says it is, then we could both live there without issue. We might not even see each other.”
“I’ll use the money to rent elsewhere,” you suggested. “It’d look suspicious if you rented under your name. Your father would find out.” You wracked your brain for another option. “Then I’ll take your flat.” “I don’t know if the owners will be so happy after I announce the termination. And even then, there’d be a place under my name and yours.”
At the end of the chapter, Bill accepts (Y/N)'s offering of the penthouse. I actually had a bout of amnesia and forgot that he offered to share it with her, and shot down her suggestions because they'd be risky. To me, it shows that he wouldn't mind living with her, and she doesn't deserve not to live there. But there's a more.... rational and refined side to him that tells him it wouldn't be a great idea. Real people having real feelings. Things could get tangled and messy. At this point of the story, he doesn't have any romantic feelings for her, but knows something could happen and someone could get hurt. That's why he stays on the down low for the next couple weeks. (Aside: he starts thinking more about (Y/N) in Chapter 8 after seeing her at the family dinner).
vs. Charlie (sb&d) (Chapter 7):
“Swimming in luxury and eating fondue on quartz countertops, indulging in vintage wines while I’m wedged in between my two loudest and most annoying brothers on a bed that can barely support my weight,” Charlie wallowed in self-pity, punctuating his remarks with a long sigh. “The universe really chooses favourites.” A crescent of sweat grazed your neck, outlining your sweater, at what you were about to say. Feeling your guilt implode, you blurted out: “You can stay over if you need."
“You have to get the unit first before dreaming about living with me,” Charlie teased, emphasising the word ‘me’ by pointing at himself, and subsequently, ricocheting your lack of faith against you.
Charlie wouldn't have cared if (Y/N) had asked him to move in with her, but since she did, he definitely doesn't mind sharing a space with her. At this point, Charlie has no romantic feelings for (Y/N), but has been extremely flirtatious. (Y/N) soon realizes she has to be careful around him (like, is what he's saying real or just something to make me feel good?). Charlie, unlike Bill, hasn't thought about the weight he's putting on (Y/N) and the repercussions. He's used to being friends with woman, flirting as he likes, and not expecting any sort of commitment. Having a roommate - someone to hang out and cook with - is just fun.
That's why I say Bill knows what he wants, Charlie "dillydallies" a lot more. But will that change? We'll find out in a couple of chapters.
Anyway, that's my director's cut. Let me know if there's anything else I can explain!!

Summary: “I have a fucken feelin she's gonna crawl back like a fucken leech.” you were talking about your mother. “If you think my father was bad. She is just as bad.”
Tumblr media
You knew he would die sometime, you just thought he would be alive for a long time and the age of seventy felt too soon. Even though he lived a long time, that he lived for quite a while. Ghost looked at you as you paced around the room as you heard the news.
Your heart felt heavy as you remembered the times you had together, the jokes, the missions, the fear. You had felt safe with him, despite his flaws and his rough edges. He had been a beacon of light in your otherwise chaotic world.
“I have a fucken feelin she's gonna crawl back like a fucken leech.” you were talking about your mother. “If you think my father was bad. She is just as bad.”
Ghost was there when you broke your hand punching a wall when you were on the phone with your mother. He heard the words “Stupid bitch.” followed by a loud smack and your pained scream.
He came running and found you cradling your hand, tears in your eyes. “I'm sorry, I didn't mean it.” you murmured into the phone before hanging up and collapsing onto the floor.
John Price must have heard you punch the wall, the concrete wall, the same wall he didn't think he needed to tell you not to punch because he thought you being a Colonel would know better. You could almost feel his disappointment in you as he walked into the room.
“Don't say it. I'm a fucken idiot. I know.” you muttered with your eyes firmly shut sitting on the floor.
John Price's footsteps were heavy as he approached you, his expression a mix of concern and frustration. “It's alright, Colonel,” he said in a firm but gentle tone, crouching beside you. “But maybe next time, we can find a better outlet for your anger.”
“Trust me. I don't plan on fightin' more walls.” you snorted.
Ghost remained silent, his eyes full of understanding, and he knew exactly what you needed in moments like this.
He didn't ask questions or try to give you false comforts; instead, he sat beside you, his hand landing gently on your back.
The warmth of his touch radiated through your uniform, offering a small semblance of solace in the coldness of your grief.
“You did a bang-up job on that hand.” Price remarked looking at your hand.
You laughed humourlessly. “Thanks. I'll be sure to bill you for the hospital visit.”
Price sighed, his expression softening. “Look, I know this isn't the time, but we have a mission briefing in an hour. You should get that looked at and try to pull yourself together for it, yeah?”
“I am well aware of that briefing. I'll be fine by then. I have at least five different emails reminding me of it from five different people.”
Price nodded, looking at the both of you before he stood. “Take all the time you need. I'll get the medical team to check it out for you, Colonel.”
“Finger crossed its either sprained or bruised.” you replied.
Ghost nodded, his thumb rubbing circles on your back. You felt his gaze on you, knowing he was assessing how much of this was an act and how much was real.
You took a deep breath and looked up at him, your eyes a little red from unshed tears. “I need to get going. We can deal with this after the briefing, okay?”
The nurses rushed around like a bunch of hens with their heads cut off. Normally you would be one of them. But you punched the wall, cried and now you felt fine somehow?
You let out a sigh and stood up, flexing your hand. It hurt, but you weren't going to let that stop you.
You had a mission to focus on. You looked over at Ghost, who was leaning against the wall, arms crossed, watching you with a mix of worry and something else.
You couldn't quite place it, but you knew it was there.
“Thanks, Ghost,” you said, your voice a bit shakier than you would have liked. “I really appreciate it.”
He nodded, his eyes never leaving yours. “Anything for you, darlin,” he said, his British accent wrapping around the words like a warm blanket.
You headed to the medical bay, Ghost following closely behind. The medics took one look at your hand and winced. “Looks like you've had quite the run-in with the wall,” one of them quipped, trying to lighten the mood.
“Yeah. Picked a fight with the wall and lost at the same time.” you snorted.
The medic took your hand gently in his and began examining it, his brow furrowing with concentration. “Well, it's definitely not broken, but it's a bad sprain. We'll need to get you into a cast for a few weeks. It'll heal quicker that way.”
“So, I did good job hittin it?” you guessed.
Ghost chuckled lightly, his eyes still full of concern. “Could say that, Colonel.”
“Well. What I recommend you doing is, plenty of rest, no more punching walls, mirrors, or people for that matter.” the medic said, wrapping your hand in a cast.
“Damn. There goes my bare-knuckle boxing match this afternoon.” you remarked dryly.
Ghost's smile grew a bit wider at that. “Maybe stick to paperwork for a bit, yeah?”
“I don’t think I would be able to fight someone with only one hand just yet. I think it would the safest bet for now.” You forced a chuckle, trying to ease the tension in the room. The medic finished wrapping your hand in the cast, his hands deft and sure.
As he stepped back, you studied the stark white cast with a sigh. It was a stark reminder of your outburst, of your loss, of the tumultuous relationship you had with your mother. But you had a mission to focus on, a team that needed you.
“Alright, Colonel, let's get you to the briefing. We're already pushin' it close to time.” Ghost's voice brought you back to the present, his hand landing on your shoulder in a firm but comforting grip.
“Joys of a tight schedule. It's feckin tighter than a nun's puckered arsehole.” you muttered as you walked to the mission briefing.
Ghost couldn't help but laugh at that. “Never knew nuns had tight arseholes, Colonel.”
“Considering they've given themselves to God. I would like to assume they would. Otherwise, I might be wrong. Though I don't like to think of them in that way either.” you replied.
Ghost chuckled, shaking his head. “You always know how to lighten the mood, don't you?”
“As someone who has parents that were baptized catholic and should have been raised catholic. My sense of humour is still intact.” you answered.
The rest of the mission didn’t have another hitch. The factors of a head start of your leave were dosed in the promise of going to a military function.
You assured them you would attend repeatedly. As they would usually do. As you always manage to sound sarcastic even when you try to be genuine in tone.
You weren’t sure why they always managed to think of that first than to take you seriously. They weren’t used to your kind of humour.
Though you can’t say the same thing when it comes to Ghost. He picked it up fine.
But you never asked why that was. It wasn’t something you didn’t want to intrude on. As you thought, ‘Must be personal. I won’t go there.’
Ghost looked at you when you never asked personal questions, and for a moment, his gaze flickered with something unreadable. Then it was gone, replaced with the usual mischievous twinkle. “You're one of a kind, Colonel,” he said, his voice low and warm.
“Talk when you want to. I won't force something. I know the effects of forcing someone to do something you don't want to do. So, if you need to talk about that let me know and you'll be free to do so.” you added as you both walked into the briefing room, the weight of the cast on your hand a constant reminder of the fragility of your mental state. “Just don't pick fights with walls.”
A mission later, a military function later and now in the front of the mirror inside your mirror in your hotel room. You were now going to attend a funeral for your father.
The cast still on your hand and the bruises slowly fading. The cast now taken off when your doctor took a look at your sprained hand. Muttering a few things under his breath, but mostly about how lucky you were and how much more it could've been.
The bruises had faded into a light purple, but you knew they'd be there still.
You told your doctor that you were on the phone with your mother when it happened during your deployment. Adding in that it was when you found out your father had died on the phone, and she had a few colourful words for you.
He nodded solemnly, understanding your pain. “Take as much time as you need to heal,” he said, his voice carrying the weight of experience with soldiers like you.
As soon as you left the doctor’s appointment, Kyle decided to take you to lunch, “Are you sure you're fine with eating there?”
You nodded, “I've been craving that burger for weeks. Let's go for it.”
The diner was a local favourite, filled with the comforting aroma of grease and the buzz of chatter. You picked at your food, the weight of the impending funeral heavy on your mind.
Kyle noticed your distraction, his gaze lingering on you with concern. He reached across the table, his thumb brushing the back of your hand gently. “You okay, darling?”
“I am dreading it. I don't think I could speak to her without another this incident occurring.” you answered holding up your hand still bruised and lightly wrapped with a bandage.
Kyle nodded solemnly, his eyes never leaving yours, “I'll be there with you every step of the way. If she tries anything, I'll handle it.”
“Fingers crossed she won't. She's already blaming me for his death, never mind the fact that his health was never that great to start with by the time I was in the picture.” you mumble into your food.
“I do have a feeling they'll have it in the early morning starting at an obnoxious starting time too. Think 5am start kind of thing. Horrendous stuff. Early morning birds the lot of them.”
Kyle was an early riser, so the mention of a 5 AM funeral didn't faze him. Though you were not. You preferred a 7am start at the earliest. He found out when he stayed over once, waking up to a grumbling mess because of his 5 AM wake-up call. But, for you, he’d be there at 4 AM if that's what it took. Something you loved more than any expensive meal he ever bought you.
The first time this happened, you were so happy you cried, he reacted so fast you didn't have a chance to even get a word in before he had you in his arms, whispering sweet nothings into your ear to calm you down. But now, it was just routine. You felt the tension in the air thicken as you both got ready for the funeral.
The white button up dress shirt, the black asymmetrical four pocketed vest and black slacks. Combined with the crimson red tie. Your face completely covered with a high-tech space grey coloured shaped skull mask.
Your white shirt rolled up to your elbows and wearing black leather gloves. The gold tree leaf collar pin on the shirt's neckline, which is a symbol of your rank of colonel. Your hair tied into a mermaid's braid.
Your dad's funeral was coming up, you had to be there, much to your own dismay and hope you would skip the funeral to go there after your family left the century.
You took a deep breath as you picked up your lucky belt, the one your dad had beaten you with and somehow kept you alive. Ironic how it was used on your flesh, but it saved your life multiple times.
This was the reality of it now, your father is dead, long dead, this was supposed to be a small funeral. But what quantified as ‘small’ didn’t exactly seem that with how many children your parents brought into the world.
Along with most of your nieces and nephews in tow with your older brothers. One time you were happy with being the only girl in the entirety of eight children they decided to have.
Now you had to become the ‘strong one’ inside of a capitalistic scummy world that valued money over moral ethics.
The lives moving the company engine along over the work life balance you deserved it was non-existent.
You were good at punching your problems away in the past. Yet it never reflected it now.
If your mother decided to show up after abandoning you and your siblings, you would be sure to leave long before she made the age-old excuse of ‘late-night work.’
When her affair took precedence over their livelihoods. You still remember telling her she was disowned and disbarred from everything your life entailed.
The thought of seeing her at the funeral sent a shiver down your spine. The same spine that your father had broken. But that’s the thing about family, they come with baggage.
The amount of baggage often changed with how much money they had. And your family had enough to start their own airline. The only flight they cared about was the one taking them away from their problems.
You felt the weight of the mask on your face, a stark reminder of the double life you led. The one where you were a daughter, sister, and now, a colonel in a world that didn’t care about your past.
It was the same world that had crushed your spirit into dust, only to build you back up into this unshakable force. The mask wasn’t just for the mission; it was for the facade you had to wear at the funeral.
The tense atmosphere inside of the funeral home, let alone the old cottage inside the isles of Yorkshire.
The company skyscraper in London, the cotton and wool farm in Yorkshire, the vacation home inside of Alaska, along with other various things your father never told you about.
Not that it mattered now.
The old man was indeed dead now.
Deceased.
Entering Rigor Mortis.
Sleeping forever.
Dead.
A bonfire, a pyre, a wooden stake, and everything they would burn a witch during the era of the witch trials. What better way to give a funeral for your father?
The flames crackling and popping in the dark of the night. The heat licking at your skin as you stood in front of everyone you had to pretend to care about.
Your heart was racing but not because of fear or nerves, it was because of the rage that burned inside of you like the very fire in front of you.
You took a deep breath and stepped forward, the flames reflecting off your mask, turning your eyes into a fiery amber.
You were getting ready for your solo date with yourself after the funeral. You weren’t going to do much. Honestly. People assumed you were kinkier than you felt like you were.
What do you mean wearing a garter panty makes you kinky? You saw them on sale, and you bought them because you felt pretty.
Why do you think like that? It is just a spiked collar with a bell. I got it years ago.
Why do you like wearing fishnet stockings to the office? Because they're comfortable, that's why.
What do you mean you’re single? Aren’t you like thirty now? Yeah. But no one wants to date me. So? Who cares?
How are you going to find someone if you wear that shit? Well, that sounds like a you problem not a me problem to have. Good luck unpacking that bullshit.
When are you going to give me grandchildren? When you show up for your children and start being an actual mother.
Why do you always have to wear black? It's my favourite colour. Besides, it matches everything.
But it’s for the funeral. You're supposed to wear something more... respectful.
You would be more respectful. My father is better man dead than he was ever alive thank you very much.
Why haven’t you forgiven your mother? Well, she’s to blame for a lot of things happening to me and I will never forgive her for it.
It wasn’t your mother’s fault your father decided to take it out on you for her leaving you and your siblings with him. Why can’t you see how you’re hurting her? She made a choice to make more than one affair with her lovers. She knew what would happen. I don’t care what she wants anymore.
Why do you have so many piercings and tattoos? Because it’s my body, and I can do what I want with it.
Why are you so defensive? Because my entire life I’ve had to fight to be seen and heard. To prove that I’m more than just the daughter of a man who didn’t deserve the title of father.
Why can’t you concentrate? I have a condition that makes focusing on one thing at a time an endless struggle.
But you seem so together. How can you have a mental illness? Because mental illness doesn’t have a face, darling. It’s not something you can spot from a mile away. It’s the hidden battles we fight daily, behind the smiles and the nods.
ADHD is not a thing, my son isn’t like this. Why are you lying? Because it’s a part of who I am, and I’m not going to hide it anymore, Mom. You should have listened when your husband beat me into ‘listening’ to him.
If you didn't say anything about it your father would have loved you more, been around you more and wouldn’t have hurt you. If you behaved like we wanted. None of this would have happened. Are you sure that is the rabbit hole you want to walk down?
You’ve had enough. You turn around and walk out of the room, not bothering to hear the rest of her guilt trips.
You don't need to be around that kind of negativity today, not when you’re trying to breathe without feeling like you’re choking on your own tears.
The door slams shut behind you, echoing through the quiet house. It’s a relief to be alone, even if it’s just for a moment. You lean against the wall, taking deep breaths, trying to calm your racing heart.
You've heard it all before, but somehow, it still stings. You’ve spent years building up a tough exterior, but the words of your mother still manage to find their way in, digging at the tender spots you've tried so hard to protect.
But today is not the day to let her win. You have a date with yourself, and you're going to enjoy it. You straighten up, smoothing down your black dress.
It’s not what everyone else expects you to wear, but it’s what you feel like wearing, and that’s all that matters. You look at the time, realizing you're already running late. The theatre won't wait for you, even if you wish the world would.
“It was stupid to think she would admit it was also partially her fault.” You muttered to your co-worker at the bar.
You had just told him about your mother’s accusations and his eyes widened, his hand froze mid-air with a bottle of whiskey. “Your father’s funeral, right? That’s why you called in sick for work?”
“Yeah. I don’t know whether it was the right thing now. I should have worked today instead of attending.” You answered.
“Your mother is a complete and total bitch. You know that, right?” He said, his voice gruff but concerned. He had seen you at your worst, and he knew the history between you two.
“Yeah. Oddly enough she only got worse after he died.” you were sipping your white Russian cocktail.
He nodded, placing the bottle back on the shelf. “Well, she can't ruin your day anymore. What's your plan now, love?”
“See a movie, have dinner and take frozen yoghurt home to devour completely.” you answered.
“A perfect plan, if I say so myself.” he winked and slid the drink to you.
“Good food is something I will always look forward to.” you chuckle with excitement. Looking forward to having a good meal for dinner tonight.
You didn’t know what it would be from the enormous amount of choices around you. But you knew. You knew there is going to be something you will enjoy.
Kyle walked into the theatre once you were in the seat you paid for. Along with nachos with extra cheese, two large diet cokes, and a box of chocolates.
He looked at the feast you bought for yourself to have with the movie. “It's not a date if you don't eat your weight in junk food.” You said with a smirk, trying to lighten the mood.
He chuckled and set the snacks down, sliding into the seat next to you. “How was it?” He asked, his voice gentle, and eyes concerned.
“Worse than a horror movie somehow. My mother is somehow far worse than a dead man now.” you answered.
Kyle’s expression tightened. He had heard enough about your mother to understand her cruel nature, but that didn’t mean he liked hearing you in pain.
He wrapped an arm around your shoulders, pulling you closer. “You know you don’t have to take that shit, right? You’re more than what she says you are.” His voice was firm and comforting.
“I went to the bar hours before. I told Larry, Lawrence, this, he agrees that she's a stone-cold bitch. This is also the same man who dates older women by the way.” you replied.
Kyle’s smile was small but knowing. “And yet he’s the voice of reason today?”
“Yeah. After a White Russian cocktail and two 'holy water' cocktails. He gave me a shot of cinnamon whiskey which he mixed with vodka and said it’s for the soul. I guess that’s one way to get over the shit of a family I have.” You said, a small laugh escaping your lips. It was a sad laugh, but it was something.
Kyle nodded, his grip around you tightening for a brief moment. “You’ve got me. That’s all that matters right now. Let’s enjoy the movie, okay?”
“The 'hole water' cocktails were quite nice by the way.” you replied.
He kissed the top of your head. “Good to know. I’ll have to try one next time I’m there.”
You were more than a little content with him there. Even if you never did things together, all the time, it was enough to know he was by your side. Your eating habits were weird to be sure, but you warned him many times before hand, and he never made you feel bad for it.
You were more than a little content with him there. Even if you never did things together, all the time, it was enough to know he was by your side. Your eating habits were weird to be sure, but you warned him many times before hand, and he never made you feel bad for it.
Your mac and cheese was the perfect temperature, just a hint of crunch on the top from the oven, and the nachos were heavenly with the warm, gooey cheese. You didn’t even realize how hungry you were until the food hit the table. You dug in with enthusiasm, the salty, cheesy flavours mingling with the sweetness of your chocolates. The comfort of the familiar tastes washed over you like a warm blanket, a stark contrast to the coldness of your mother’s words earlier.
The movie began, and you tried to lose yourself in the action-packed scenes, but your thoughts kept drifting back to the conversation with your mother. You could feel Kyle’s eyes on you, his concern palpable. He reached over and took your hand, giving it a squeeze. It was a simple gesture, but it meant the world to you. It reminded you that you weren’t alone, that there was someone who cared about you, who saw you for more than the sum of your past.
The film was a blockbuster hit, full of explosions and car chases that had your heart racing. You couldn’t help but think how surreal it was to be here with Kyle, a man who lived a life so different from your own. A man who, despite his wealth and status, saw the real you and didn’t flinch at your imperfections. It was a feeling you hadn’t experienced in a long time, if ever.
As the movie progressed, you found yourself leaning into Kyle’s side, your shoulders brushing against his firm, muscular frame. His thumb traced small circles on the back of your hand, the touch grounding and soothing. You watched the screen, but your mind was elsewhere, lost in the warmth and comfort of his presence.
As you slept in the hotel room with your earbuds in to block out the background noises of the city, the ticking of the grandfather clock in the hallway and the ticking of the analog clock in the hotel room. You were asleep faster than you would have been after drinking a warm glass of milk doused in melatonin.
You would be back inside your cottage inside of Yorkshire soon. It may take a while. It will come to you soon. You think to yourself. A small temporary mantra to ease yourself into a heavy slumber. Easing yourself into a comfortable routine you know more about than London and its streets.
The routine was and remains to be quite boring to those who knew or didn’t know you. Not that it mattered. Nothing mattered until you had at least eight to nine hours of sleep inside you. A golden rule you always had to maintain some assemblance of peace inside your soul. Not that you were ever religious about the ‘soul’ or ever argued what made a ‘soul’ a ‘soul.’
The satin eye mask you wore didn't just shield your eyes from light, it served as a symbolic barrier between you and the tumultuous world outside. The silk pillow cover over the body pillow you kept to your chest to help you sleep alone at night. A small comfort among the many you kept to yourself.
The satin pajamas you wore to bed were handmade by your late grandmother, a soft and warm embrace that brought a semblance of comfort to the cold, sterile hotel room. The warmth of the outdoor socks you used a bed socks to keep warm. Your mind began to drift as the darkness of the room wrapped around you like a cocoon.
As you slept deep inside the cocoon of heavy blankets.
Back deep inside the penthouse of London’s most expensive, luxurious buildings owned by Kyle's father. A building so high, it seemed like it could kiss the stars, if only it tried hard enough. Though if his father was in fact allowed to have it kiss the stars. It would be done with no questions asked, and no doubt with the finest gold-plated cranes money could buy.
Soap hadn't been introduced to you just yet, but his reputation preceded him. Kyle had mentioned him in passing, a fellow SAS operative with a sharp wit and a penchant for trouble. You'd seen his face in a few photos around Kyle's flat, a grinning man with piercing blue eyes and a mop of hair styled in a mohawk. Not too outrageous as the ones you had seen growing up.
“My older brother has one still. Though his has width of a small bird. Dyed it pink and it hasn't been any other colour since.” you told him.
Kyle chuckled at your words, his eyes not leaving yours. He leaned closer, his breath brushing your cheek. “I bet he pulls it off better than anyone else.”
“Considering he pulls off a cocktail dress. I doubt there is something he couldn't.” You quipped back with a smirk, feeling his breath on your face. The conversation had been light, a welcome reprieve from the shadowy world Kyle was entangled in.
Now, as you were in the hotel room, Kyle talking to Soap in person, “Soap, I don’t know if Ghost has told you this. But I don’t think she needs a lesson in anything MacTavish.”
Soap’s smirk didn’t waver, didn’t budge, didn’t move from his face. “Oh, I’ve heard plenty about her. But I’d like to see her skills for myself, Gaz. It’s not every day you get to spar with someone who’s seen more action than a Hollywood blockbuster.”
“Or you could settle for Blackjack and watch her take his money instead?” Ghost said his voice over the phone.
“Cheeky bugger,” Soap said, his smile evident in his voice. “But, I’m more interested in the action than the gambling. Besides, I can handle myself around a poker table.”
“Poker and Blackjack are different.” Ghost reminded him. “Blackjack is all about maths, and you know how good she is with numbers.”
The phone line crackled with Soap’s laughter. “Alright, alright, I’ll leave the gambling to her and the brains. But I’m still looking forward to seeing her in action, Gaz. It’ll be like watching a ballet of bullets and brawn.”
Kyle rolled his eyes, a smile tugging at his lips. “I’m sure she’ll be thrilled to know you’re eager to watch her dance with danger, Soap. Just remember she’s not just any operative.”
“Understood, Gaz. I’ll play nice.” Soap’s tone was teasing, but there was a hint of respect beneath it.
You were known to play like a loan shark when it came to blackjack. Ruthless, precise, and cold. It was your way of coping with the world. The numbers never lied to you, never hurt you, and never disappointed you. It was a game that made sense to you in a world that rarely did. The thought of playing poker with Kyle's friend made your stomach twirl, but in a way that was more excitement than dread.
“You better. Otherwise, any poker game you play with her? You'll end up paying for it.” Ghost quipped, his voice a mix of humour and caution.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way, Ghost. Besides, I enjoy a challenge.” Soap's reply was filled with the kind of confidence that could only come from experience.
Kyle chuckled. “Keep that in mind when you finally meet her. She's not just a pretty face, she's got brains and brawn. You might learn a thing or two.”
The line went silent for a beat before Soap spoke up again. “Looking forward to it, Gaz. How's she holding up?”
Kyle’s eyes softened at the question. “As well as can be expected. She’s a tough one, that’s for sure. But she’s got a lot on her plate.”
“Family issues?” Ghost guessed.
Kyle nodded solemnly. “Something like that. She’s got a past she’s trying to outrun, and it’s catching up with her.”
“Yeesh. Price told her it would come knocking when she least expects it to.” Ghost’s voice was filled with a mix of sympathy and the bluntness you were used to. “Just keep her safe, Gaz. That’s all we can do for now.”
“And tell her to come to Glasgow for once. She’ll be more at ‘peace’ here than in London.” Soap remarked with a laugh.
“She’s from Yorkshire, Soap. She’s not exactly keen on Glasgow weather, unless you’ve got a sunbed with her name on it,” Kyle said, his eyes not leaving yours as he spoke into the phone, a gentle teasing glint in his eyes.
“Yorkshire’s weather is nice during summer. Absolutely freezing in Winter.” Ghost reminded Soap. As if he wanted to drill in the fact, you were happy living in Yorkshire and preferred to visit other places.
“Summer in Glasgow isn’t exactly a tropical paradise, but it’s still worth a visit. Besides, I’m sure we can manage to warm things up for her.” Soap’s voice grew slightly darker, a mischievous twinkle in his tone that made Kyle smirk.
“And I am certain you will most likely find yourself broke and upset long before the entire week would end.” Ghost and Kyle told him in unison reminding him you would take what he for what he is worth from his hide during either a match of blackjack or poker.

Some collected ChatGPT sillinesses
Or, "Building an Artificial Idiot". Because ChatGPT is not, I repeat, it is not an artificial intelligence. It is a large language model (LLM). In non-technical terms, it gives the most common sort of answer found in the training data, sort of like autocomplete suggestions for common words on your phone. This is good enough for common questions, but frequently inconsistent from question to question. There is very little point in trying to argue ChatGPT into consistency, because the training data is inconsistent, being the collected opinions of many different people in different situations.
I do not know with certainty which of these examples are language model sillinesses, hardcoded developer kludges on top of the language model, or entirely made up for clout, but I thought it was fun to collect them anyway. Starting with an entry from @psychosort on Twitter:
Tumblr media
Let's all have a good laugh at "The Supreme Court's decisions are meant to be final and binding on all lower courts, and it is not appropriate to seek to overturn them" followed by immediately describing how you would seek to overturn them for a different case. The linked thread has more examples of ChatGPT flipping back and forth this way depending on case.
But let me also say: ChatGPT is not "contradicting" itself. Contradiction would require a sort of commitment to the things being said, which ChatGPT doesn't have. ChatGPT is more like an actor playing different roles in different questions, consistently following the instructions in the script each time, but reading from a different script each time. It is not a contradiction for an actor to play two different roles. It's telling fresh bullshit each time, with very little thought for consistency.
Another metaphor might be how Dracula is frequently "contradictory" to Harry Potter, but they're both fiction, neither of them are true, and they're written by different people. Sometimes the two fictions agree on accurate statements like the existence of London. The fiction is still not a reliable source.
Also, because the different scripts are written by remixing and mashing up previous scripts, sometimes you get this kind of weird glitch:
Tumblr media
As I understand it, this is something like 1) tokenizer glitch mapping "SolidGoldMagikarp" onto "distribute", 2) previous scripts did not teach it the former word so it spells a different word, 3) previous scripts did not teach it to abort and notice fuckery in something as common as spelling a word.
Tumblr media
ChatGPT has a lot of pablum and author attempts at limiting it. But there's various kinds of prompt injection, where if you insist and use the the right phrasing that it's only pretending to be someone else,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Math is hard.
Tumblr media
And then there's this sort of boilerplate:
Tumblr media
I don't know the exact internal workings of ChatGPT, but if a platitude template is common in the training data, I suspect that's a reason why ChatGPT will recycle the platitude template, without regard for whether it makes sense to say that the US "has a long history of recognizing and protecting the rights of individuals to self-identify their gender".
Tumblr media
Similarly, if the training data contains lots of special pleading for Jews, expect ChatGPT to repeat the special pleading for Jews, possibly also with a thumb on the scale from the devs to ensure that protected groups are properly protected and privileged.
Tumblr media
Here, for instance, looks to me like a very heavy thumb on the scale, devs constraining the chatbot not to generate anything which sounds vaguely like it might induce "white pride":
Tumblr media
In closing, some remarks from eigenrobot:
"i think its an incredibly helpful service for them to have clearly demonstrated that AI will give you the information that its trainers want you to have rather than what is in some sense "true", within the limits of its trainers ability" "having the first popular language AI act in transparent bad faith is extremely helpful because it poisons the well, to an extent, for future iterations"

Hello! I loved your tyler sfw alphabet, so if it'd be possible could you do the nsfw alphabet for him too? No pressure though!
A/N: TYLER IS AGED UP TYLER IS AGED UP THIS IS AFTER HE'S BEEN AN ADULT FOR A LITTLE WHILE, AS HUNTER DOOHAN IS 29. Also, petition to get his husband a cameo on Wednesday season 2, I think they deserve it.
Tumblr media
NSFW alphabet template
A = Aftercare (what they’re like after sex)
I feel like Tyler gets a bit possessive. He'll wipe you down, calm you down, and make sure the two of you have a cuddly nest to recover in.
B = Body part (their favorite body part of theirs and also their partner’s)
The Hyde and Tyler are both big fans of your neck. He loves to bite it and mark it, for the sake of possession. Tyler likes it because people know you're taken, and the Hyde likes it because biting is fun yummy yum. He likes his chest because it's like the perfect size for you to rest on too.
C = Cum (anything to do with cum, basically)
I bet the Hyde has a breeding kink, and Tyler leans the fuck in. If he's an endangered species, that's definitely a part of the conversation while he's fucking you, and regardless of if you have a uterus or not, you will be bred within an inch of your sanity. Get a safe word. Goddamn.
D = Dirty secret (pretty self explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs)
This is tough, I feel like the Hyde is his dirty secret initially, but when you make friends with the Hyde, there's not much else to know. He's a cat purring in your lap, because he loves you and only you. Forever.
E = Experience (how experienced are they? do they know what they’re doing?)
I feel like medium. You're definitely the first person Tyler's been with since his Hyde was activated. He had a few partners before, when he was human 100%, but you're the first one he wants to make it work with.
F = Favorite position (this goes without saying)
Tyler's a big fan of missionary, no shock here, he likes watching your eyes roll back when he takes you, and he likes being able to see you react to all of the dirty things he tells you.
The Hyde definitely wants you on all fours. It gives him room to grab, squeeze, and handle you any way he wants. Sometimes you jiggle, and the Hyde goes insane.
G = Goofy (are they more serious in the moment? are they humorous? etc.)
More serious usually. He'll get goofy once in a blue moon, but it's not often.
H = Hair (how well groomed are they? does the carpet match the drapes? etc.)
The Hyde kinda looks like Golem from LOTR to me, so I'm gonna go ahead and say the carpet is sparse. Tyler's got nice hair though, he will get hella bedhead and it will get stick-upy and that's fun.
I = Intimacy (how are they during the moment? the romantic aspect)
Very much. Whether things are more calm, or whether he's trying to work off some tension, it always feels like it's just the two of you.
J = Jack off (masturbation headcanon)
Tyler can and has worn you out before, so Jacking off is totally regular and comfortable. It gives you a break and keeps him calm.
K = Kink (one or more of their kinks)
Tyler is fun. You can slap, choke, pull on his hair, and he'll be just fine. He absolutely loves to get you overstimulated and strung-out on his dick, and he can be a bit mean and condescending when it's just the two of you.
As for the Hyde, predator/prey is always a go-to, followed by restraints and blindfolds, biting, and a crying kink. The crying goes hand and hand with the over stimulation and the mean/degrading remarks.
L = Location (favorite places to do the do)
Crypts, his room, your room, the woods, and his car. His car is his favorite, you like the woods because no matter how far you run from the Hyde, Tyler somehow always makes sure there are blankets/pillows available for when he catches you.
M = Motivation (what turns them on, gets them going)
The Hyde kind of runs this department. The wind could blow the right direction and he'll pull you away from whatever your doing. It could be anything, we don't know enough about Hydes just yet.
N = No (something they wouldn’t do, turn offs)
Sharing, Voyeurism, he'd never actually slap you or choke you. Tyler is a good egg, and I think he'd draw a line there.
O = Oral (preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc.)
I feel like if you ask nice, Tyler will let you go down on him in a leisurely fashion. It's a practice in control, and it always makes him happy to see you down on him just :) hanging out. On the flipside though, I feel like the Hyde wants your wrists tied, sitting on Tyler's face, cumming until you cry.
P = Pace (are they fast and rough? slow and sensual? etc.)
I feel like faster/rough because this initially starts as a workout for him, something to help curb the blood lust. However, Tyler is totally capable of doing slow and sensual, it's usually harder to come by.
Q = Quickie (their opinions on quickies, how often, etc.)
It kind of escalates quickly? If he wants to sink his teeth into you, he can make it quick, but you'll be spent for the day. You will definitely have to bail on whatever you were doing before.
R = Risk (are they game to experiment? do they take risks? etc.)
I don't think Tyler would experiment much. It already takes a lot of focus to keep the Hyde under control, he wouldn't want to do anything too extra (besides the aforementioned kinks)
S = Stamina (how many rounds can they go for? how long do they last?)
Physically, I don't think the Hyde has a limit. If your a normie or an outcast, you qualify as a human and he's able to go until your broken in half. The communication between the two of you has to be excellent.
T- TOYS
Tyler and The Hyde don't really have strong opinions on toys. I feel like if you have any in your collection before you start seeing him, he wouldn't say no to incorporating them into your routine, but his one condition is, he always has to be inside of you in some capacity when the toys are in use.
U = Unfair (how much they like to tease)
Tyler/The Hyde definitely likes to make his relationship with you known, but you have to be an actual nightmare to get him to tease you. Tease? Only for disciplinary purposes.
V = Volume (how loud they are, what sounds they make, etc.)
Tyler would give a lot of grunts and growls. He's not paying attention to himself enough to think about what he's doing, so this leaves a lot of opportunity for swearing and dirty talking. He'll be out of his mind spitting absolute filth, and the volume doesn't even matter.
W = Wild card (a random headcanon for the character)
I feel like Tyler is big on skin-to-skin contact. Like any time the two of you are alone for a prolonged period of time, sex or no sex, your going to be pressed against him as much as physically possible. Cockwarming? That's optional.
X = X-ray (let’s see what’s going on under those clothes)
I feel like the Soft White Boy effect still applies here. We've got Tyler, a 5'10 white male, who takes the girls he likes on dates in crypts, and looks like he'd fly out of the window if you drove in a convertible on the interstate. He's too unassuming to have just an average dick.
Y = Yearning (how high is their sex drive?)
High. Substantially so. I feel like the Hyde's urge to maim and kill can be curbed by an active sex life with you. For him, it's an alright workout that curbs the blood lust, but there are times where you have to tell him to handle it himself, as you're exhausted.
Z = Zzz (how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)
I feel like constantly keeping his alter ego down, under control, can be a bit more tiring than he lets on. So when he's with you, guards are down, he's comfortable, I feel like he knocks out quickly. Like once he knows your taken care of, he'll be out until the next morning.

[Review] Tamagotchi Field Guide (LCD)
Tumblr media
What an incredible find!
While browsing Japanese online auctions and shopping sites for Tamagotchi devices, we came across this spinoff LCD handheld. It’s sometimes known as the “Tamagotchi Digital Pocket” as that’s what’s written on the unit, but the packaging calls it the たまごっち図鑑 [Tamagotchi Zukan], which I’ve translated as Tamagotchi Field Guide. It’s a novel way of presenting a little digital game, as a reference guide for the various species, but I should be clear that it’s not an optimal encyclopaedia. Think of it as a puzzle game with a Tamagotchi theme. In fact, it’s a Picross clone!
This is an excellent way to hook me in to getting more interested in Tamagotchi, by giving me a set of nonogram puzzles to solve. And the novelty of this cute little self-contained handheld makes it all the more enticing! Presenting puzzles as large as 15x15 on a screen this tiny is a remarkable achievement, although it can result in some eye strain. I found it best to play this only in broad daylight; fortunately there is an options menu you can open during a puzzle to change the contrast of the display (and turn off the beeping sounds).
As a version of the Picross engine it’s pretty good. Judging by the represented Tamagotchi generations and the use of the “Tamagotch” romanisation which was obsoleted not long after the franchise’s Western localisation, this would probably have been released in late 1997. This would place it after Jupiter’s original three Picross games for Game Boy and SNES, so it’s riffing on those as a template for virtual nonograms. This means a countdown system, which you can elect between 25 minute “Hard” or 45 minute “Easy” variations. Misses are marked instantly and result in a 2 minute time penalty, although this is not increased with further mistakes. The usual “hint” feature is available at the start of a puzzle which automatically fills in one row and column; of course I never used it!
There’s subtleties to the mechanics that they got right: it has cursor wrap, and you can cross squares in a row while skipping over already marked and crossed squares. Not all indie Picross-likes get this right, you know! Understandably, there’s limitations to how hints are displayed due to the screen technology and size though. Only one hint per row and column can be displayed at a time for the currently selected square, so you have to always be ticking around and potentially building a mental map. This doesn’t make it easy when you’re asked to extrapolate...
Yes, the weakness of this game is sadly the puzzle design. The solutions seem to be sprites of Tamagotchi species taken directly from the original games, which means they don’t always make for well-considered puzzles. I found many times to progress the logic I would need to either consider hypotheticals (difficult to do on this device) or make outright guesses. Not to mention the many puzzles that depict the Tamas sleeping, which means half of the entire grid (their blanket) is the same every time. At least the solutions are animated even if it is only two frames.
As for the Tamagotchi-ness of this game, well it’s very authentic! The design of the unit including the screen background mirrors the first generation toys, a nice touch. As I said the sprites all seem to be taken directly from their respective games; in this case there’s 3 sets of 25 puzzles each, with the sets respectively representing the first and second generation as well as the “Angel” spinoff which saw you raising the ghosts of dead Tamas as they evolve into different angel forms. There’s a good variety of these adorably weird monsters as solutions, including the more difficult-to-raise “secret” ones.
My favourite feature is the faux-raising dynamic: as you solve puzzles, the egg or ghost that started the puzzle set hatches and/or grows and you “check in” with its status in between each one, seeing it doing different activities and changing. It’s very cute, even though you don’t directly interact with it through gameplay! I’m not sure if the result changes depending on your clear time, difficulty, or hint use, but for posterity I’ll say that my first set ended in the penguin-like Ginjirotchi, my second in the cat-like Nyatchi, and in the third my angel ended up reincarnated as the originally Western-exclusive character Bill, the bizarre human head on legs! I couldn’t have wished for better results.
Although my eyes often had to squint and my hands would tend to cramp up, I loved my time with this little beast. It’s very conducive to pick-up-and-play as you can instantly put it in standby at any time and it will remember your puzzle state. 75 puzzles is quite good value too, as I originally expected a throwaway dozen puzzles or so. The puzzle design isn’t always the best but with the generous time allotment in Easy mode it’s not a big deal to bite the bullet and just make guesses when needed and proceed from there. And you have to give it props for its commitment to the source material; on the other hand, as a Tamagotchi brand extension it’s a lovely novelty for fans of the early days. If you’re looking to pick one up they’re not too expensive, just make sure to have two LR44 batteries and a fervent wish that it’s still working after all these years!

@tinycozyoasis shared an awesome template for a fun little meme that I wanted to try with Rosalie.
Cereza, The Bayonetta Franchise: Like Cerzera, Rosalie is an elegant woman who radiates confidence. Simultaneously brutal and playful. Someone who can be callous, but deeply protective over those she holds dear as well.
Izumi Curtis, Full Metal Alchemist: A quick temper and inclination towards violence that's easily calmed by those who know how to handle her. Despite her aggressive nature, she is a remarkably warm, caring individual whose always willing to help those in need-especially children. Wise. Loves to traval.
Princess Peach, The Mario Franchise: One of my favorite characters in media. A character who embodies both strength and femininity- exactly what I wanted for Rosalie.
Amy Rose, Sonic the Hedgehog Franchise: Similar to Peach, Amy is a character who is equal parts feminine and badass. Also her love for hitting things with her giant hammer? Very Rosalie.
Sadie Adler, Red Dead Redemption 2: A extremally tough, headstrong, and fiery woman whose unafraid of toil. Sadie also technically shares this spot with Bonnie MacFarlane from RDR1- a rancher with a similar disposition to Sadie.
Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron: Just... this entire movie. A wild, free-spirited young woman whose taken unwillingly from her home and fights to return.

Brief Look at Judge Dredd Novels, Cinematic Interlude: Judge Dredd (1995)
Tumblr media
We should, perhaps, begin with the obvious.
The biggest problem here is Sylvester Stallone, in manners both gross and subtle. On the one hand, his performance is... well, it's pure Stallone. It's a mind-gratingly stoic and staid performance, with all the mumbling you've come to expect, and on the most obvious of levels it's simply not very good.
But the deeper problem here, and the one that really sinks the film, is one that fandom generally seems to come very close to correctly diagnosing, if only to ever so slightly miss the mark in the way that only science-fiction fandoms really can.
The problem, as John J. Fandom, MD would have you believe, is that the film chose to show Judge Dredd's face, one of the biggest no-nos of 2000 AD. And they are, at least, partially right, but only in the sense that the prominence of Stallone's face is a symptom of the overwhelming amount of distortion that the actor's mere presence inflicts upon the very cinematic grammar of the film.
Witness the first scene in which Dredd is revealed, and you can practically hear the creaks as the generally satirical and sceptical lens in which 2000 AD cast the Judges at its best moments is wrenched into a far more conventional "action movie" template.
This impression certainly isn't helped any by the eventual arrival of Rob Schneider, who was seemingly one of your go-to guys in the nineties for lame action movie buddy comedies.
(Granted, the only other film I've seen from the decade that fits the bill would be Tsui Hark's 1998 JCVD vehicle Knock Off, a rather terrible film that I only ever bothered to watch because Sparks did the theme song. At any rate, it simply wasn't worth it.)
It's not that the juxtaposition of Judge Dredd against this conventional setting couldn't create a perverse frisson, but it would definitely require a much more incisive and self-aware script than William Wisher, Jr. and Steven de Souza were apparently willing to provide. As is, you're left with... well, a conventional action movie, which is probably in the Top 2 Least Interesting Things You Could Ever Do With Judge Dredd.
The other, as it happens, would be to make it a conventional sci-fi film riffing on Star Wars and Joseph Campbell, and oops they did that one too, complete with a James Earl Jones voiceover that makes a point of having him say lines about "forces." The best encapsulation of the sheer strangeness of this experience is the scene in which Max von Sydow's Fargo reveals to Dredd his nature as a clone. After seemingly never shutting up throughout the whole film, Rob Schneider is practically forced to the periphery of the frame for an Atonement with the Father or whatever.
Rather than being as liberating as one would hope "getting less Rob Schneider" would be, it only reinforces the sense that the film is caught between two - three, if you count the tone and aesthetic of the original 2000 AD comics, but all impressions of the film's behind-the-scenes would seem to suggest that you'd be the only one - competing sensibilities, and ultimately ends up doing neither of them particularly well.
Sure, it looks good, with some wonderful set design and special effects, but the reduction of such an interesting world as Judge Dredd down to superficial and facile pleasures - and I include in this remark the utterly extraneous catfight between Diane Lane's Hershey and a rightfully bored Joan Chen, for the record - can't help but sting a little. The biggest saving grace the film has is that it isn't that long, but at that point we'd best stop scraping the bottom of the barrel before we end up with splinters.
And accordingly, we should end with the obvious: The fact that this made nearly nineteen times as much as the contemporary Tank Girl film is the kind of thing that it's hard not to view as anything but a moral abhorrence.

What’s new in React?
React is a continuously evolving library in the ever-changing web development landscape. As you embark on your journey to learn and master React, it’s important to understand the evolution of the library and its updates over time.
One of the advantages of React is that its core API has remained relatively stable in recent years. This provides a sense of continuity and allows developers to leverage their knowledge from previous versions. The conceptual foundation of React has remained intact, meaning that the skills acquired three or five years ago can still be applied today. Let’s take a step back and trace the history of React from its early versions to the recent ones. From React 0.x to React 18, numerous pivotal changes and enhancements have been made as follows: 1. React 0.14: In this version, the introduction of functional components allowed developers to utilize functions as components, simplifying the creation of basic UI elements. At that time, no one knew that now we would write only functional components and almost completely abandon class-based components.
2. React 15: With a new versioning scheme, the next update of React 15 brought a complete overhaul of the internal architecture, resulting in improved performance and stability.
3. React 16: This version, however, stands as one of the most notable releases in React’s history. It introduced hooks,a revolutionary concept that enables developers to use state and other React features without the need for class components. Hooks make code simpler and more readable, transforming the way developers write components.Additionally, React 16 introduced Fiber, a new reconciliation mechanism that significantly improved performance, especially when dealing with animations and complex UI structures.
4. React 17: This version focused on updating and maintaining compatibility with previous versions. It introduced a new JSX transform system.
5. React 18: This is the latest stable release, which continues the trajectory of improvement and emphasizes performance enhancements and additional features, such as the automatic batching of renders, state transitions, server components, and streaming server-side rendering.
Setting up a new React project There are several ways to create a React project when you are getting started. In this section, let's explore three common approaches: • Using web bundlers • Using frameworks • Using an online code editor
Using web bundlers Using a web bundler is an efficient way to create React projects, especially if you are building a Single-Page Application (SPA). Vite is known for its remarkable speed and ease of setup and use.
Using frameworks For real-world and commercial projects, it is recommended to use frameworks built on top of React. These frameworks provide additional features out of the box, such as routing and asset management (images, SVG files, fonts, etc.). They also guide you in organizing your project structure effectively, as frameworks often enforce specific file organization rules. Some popular React frameworks include Next.js, Gatsby, and Remix.
Online code editors Online code editors combine the advantages of web bundlers and frameworks but allow you to set up your React development environment in the cloud or right inside of the browser. This eliminates the need to install anything on your machine and lets you write and explore React code directly in your browser. While there are various online code editors available, some of the most popular options include CodeSandbox, StackBlitz, and Replit. These platforms provide a user-friendly interface and allow you to create, share, and collaborate on React projects without any local setup. To get started with an online code editor, you don’t even need an account. Simply follow this link on your browser:(https://codesandbox.io/p/sandbox/react-new?utm_source=dotnew). In a few seconds, you will see that CodeSandbox is ready to work with a template project, and a live preview of the editor is available directly in the browser tab. If you want to save your changes, then you need to create an account.Using online code editors is a convenient way to learn and experiment with React, especially if you prefer a browser-based development environment.
