Re-Verse Mylene and Ivan!

Drawing these two was really fun! I kept Ivan mostly the same, but I went in a more scene-ish direction with Mylene. There's some really old character bio thing that called Mylene a "mischievous prankster", which doesn't fit her canon self at all, but I feel like this version of Mylene would be more like that. Both of them would be way less shy and reserved than their canon-verse counterparts. They're both still social activists, but to a much more extreme degree due to their world being a dystopian hellscape an all that gjsgdj

Before they join the resistence they aren't aware of The Supreme, but are aware that something is definitely wrong with the government of their world. They would initially form their own mini-resistence group investigating all the shady stuff happening, before finding out about the Supreme and joining Gabriel's resistence

You know, when you really think about it, the Re-verse Marinette and Adrien only became villains because they didnt have Alya or Nino in their life.

Re-verse Marinette reading Marinette's diary and seeing her support network got her on the path to turning good.

Meanwhile Adrien telling his Re-verse version about Nino helped him turn to see the light.

Shady/Noir What Happens Next?

Just in case you’re curious how much of a slow burn the romance is post-reveal…

It’s obvious how Marinette recognized Adrien; his face is on every other billboard and magazine ad in Paris.

    But how does he know her?

There are at least 2 acceptable answers here-

A.) They go to the same school and have passed each other in the halls (only half true.)

B.) Her parents own his favorite bakery and he just happened to see her through the window once or twice (or ninety six times).

Both are perfectly normal and not at all creepy responses.

Instead, the so-called teen heart-throb panics and, smooth as gravel, blurts out:

    “YOU STOLE MY UMBRELLA!”

….There is dead silence for three whole agonizing minutes as Marinette stares at him like he is insane because she has no clue what he’s talking about.

    “Remember? It was the second day of school???”

That was several months ago, but Marinette vaguely recalls it was raining that day.

    (Wow, talk about a petty grudge!)

    “Um, sorry, I guess?”

     “…It’s fine, don’t worry about it.”

She won’t, but he will-

   He’ll also lose sleep over the next few days as he curses himself out for being an idiot because who says that to a girl?! STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!!!!

Okay, soooo I watched the new miraculous world special (into the re-verse) on the day of its release, and honestly... it was pretty good for miraculous ladybug standards. It kinda felt like a breath of fresh air after what happened in the s5 finale. The animation was TOP TIER, the writing was actually decent for the most part (I REALLY wanna know more about the re-verse's world! >.<), and the characters were actually awesome in this! (Ofc I'm mainly talking about shadybug and clawnoir. 😆)

Overall, I just really enjoyed myself

If I want to say more about it, then i'll probably just make another post about it. 👍🏾

Shape-shifters, face-blindness, and "paying attention to others"

The shapeshifter is one of my favourite "monster of the week" episodes because it showcases how differently Laios processes social information than the rest of the party. It reminds me a lot of the strategies I, faceblind name-forgetter and eye-contact avoider, use to recognize people and learn things about them.

We see Laios clearly fail at recognizing the doubles through "standard" social cues that are perceived as "easy to tell", such as their clothes. This makes the team (unfairly, but understandably) weary of his ability to tell the fakes apart and even worried that he'd prefer the monster versions* over them. Nonetheless, he gives it a try!

...And is immediately overwhelmed. His lack of attention to social cues works a bit in his favor, though, as it makes it harder for him to fall for stereotypes that fool the rest of the group.

Instead, he chooses to rely on his strengths and use his investigation and animal handling skills to distract the shapeshifters, lure out the monster, and roll the most insane balls-to-the-wall intimidation check of all time.

If it had ended there it still would have been a great episode that showcases Laios' strategic mind and his strengths as a leader. He doesn't have the social skills necessary for the task, but he is clever and creative enough to use the skills he does have proficiency in to solve the problem*.

However, what makes this episode so dear and near to my faceblind heart is the revelation that Laios was able to recognize the real party members after all.

Laios is fantastic representation of how special interests actually work for a monotropic interest system. Having a special interest is not just about how much you like it and the need to know everything about it, it's a way of processing and filtering information. Laios' special interest is monsters: his skills as a dungeoneer and party leader are acquired for and informed by his desire to interact with monsters, as is his interest in eating them. He actually brings this up himself when comparing his interest in cooking to Senshi's.

And in this episode, we see that this also extends to his friends. Laios hacks one of the most difficult types of information for him to process by routing it through the lens of the special interest. And, because it's not something most people would notice, it works. He knows that Chilchuck wouldn't let his guard down around a potential mimic, that Senshi values a balanced ecosystem, that (my favourite) Marcille just isn't as thoughtful about monsters as he is.

It might not be what was expected, but it did the trick! And what's more, the narrative validates his way of thinking (even if Chilchuck doesn't).

Damn, they are amazing and I love how you gave Alicante frills like a Dilophosaurus cause I thought those looked so cool and Rat Pack having a square patterned leggings is such a great touch and gives me a bit of Alice In Wonderland vibes.

Overall, these design’s definitely scream punk! 😤

I’m so excited for the new miraculous special, in the mean time take punk Multimouse and Aspik for the new aspects of the love square…are we still calling it a square at this point? Meet Alicante and Rat Pack!

what she’s thinking: the story brought both carpenter and faulkner to their inevitable end points that have been foreshadowed from the v first episode of the show ambiguity of carpenters death aside she stood on the banks of the river singing like her nana glass and was gunned down by the military and faulkner was drowned dragged delivered by the god and story he had let devour him but. but. before those things happened right before the narrative reached its end both of them stood up and said no! i want to go forward! i want to find something past this whatever it might be i don’t want it to take me yet im going to keep on walking! and it was too late! the thing is it was too fucking late!!!!!!! the aquifer was already flooding the soldiers were closing in she was to hurt to run he can’t swim. the chance had come and gone at the beginning of the episode for any hope of them reaching each other ever again but even though it was too little too late never ever going to be enough they both looked the site of their doom in the eyes and said i do not accept this. not here. not now. i am staring at you– the thing that will eat me — and resolving to pry open the jaws and choose to use the last moments of my life (whether i know it or not) to run and stumble and crawl and cry and sing in the hopes of reaching the people who matter to me more than being made your meal. and of course they got fucking eaten anyways. of course they did bc they were walking towards it from the beginning. but there is a way out, there is a way forward, there is a land beyond the storm that is possible to reach if you choose to step out of the story that has been built for you to find it. we walk on, with a rough and tarnished hope, and a tangled, ruined love. it can end with love, and it can end with kindness. even as the jaws are closing. ours is a world of miracles.

You all *really* liked my Re-verse designs so I did Rose and Juleka as well! The initial idea was to switch up their aesthetics, but being goth is like Juleka's defining trait so I just made her a slightly different flavor of goth jhkjjfjl

I've been throwing around some worldbuilding and backstory ideas for the Re-verse. The current idea for these two is that this Juleka is even more shy and reserved than our Juleka, since she never got to be friends with the other girls, and i feel like Anarka would be much more of a strict and controlling parent in this universe, similar to how Marinette seems to have the opposite homelife in the Re-verse. As for Rose, she didn't recieve proper treatment for her anime coughing disease™ due to the Supreme's influence on the healthcare system or something, so she's still sick. Due to Rose being bedridden most of the time, she also has little to no friends. Juleka and Rose are each other's only friend pretty much. The two of them would *eventually* join the Resistence some time after the events of the special (my hc is that by the time of the special the resistence consists of just Gabe, Alya, Nino, Max and Kim)

Kamikotized Hero Design

Working on writing the first Hero Shadybug and Claw Noir fought. It’s rather long so in order to save space, I wanted to describe the costume’s finer details here, along with reference pics. If anyone is a talented artist and is accepting commissions, I would be most grateful~

Mireille Caquet as kamikotized hero “Faerie Weather”

Her design is a combination of her weather powers and a korean “fairy” from folklore, a tribute to her korean heritage as well has a pun on “Fair weather” which is the opposite of the “Stormy Weather” akumatized villain that Hawkmoth created.

(In the universe of Shadybug and Claw Noir, Aurora became the weather girl instead of Mireille, but rather than being bitter about it, she is supportive of her friend but wishes there was something she could do when terrible weather conditions threaten to destroy a very important event)

Her hairstyle is the same but her hair is now a pale lavender and her eyes a golden sun yellow. Instead of her normal human ears, she has long, pointy, elf-like ears that stick out of her hair for a cute, pixie-ish effect.

She wears a korean hair band and the ornament in the middle of her forehead looks like the sun peeking out from behind a gray cloud and there are 3 strands of blue, raindrop shaped beads that hang down. (See reference photo for hair ornament placement)

Via make-up, her face is just slightly paler than her usual color and she has more pink peachy blush on her cheeks than usual, a bold, bright lucky red lipstick (to symbolize strength), and peachy-red and white eye make-up that is dramatic but modernly stylish rather than traditional. (See eye make-up reference photo)

Her costume is similar to hanbok (traditional korean wear) with the jeogori (top) being a bright sky blue with white trim and canary yellow ribbon bow. There is sparse embroidery on the blue section and it looks like fluffy white clouds with an occasional rainbow. Sleeves are traditional shape and length.

    The chima (skirt) is shorter than traditional length, like a casual modern hanbok style or that of a magical school-girl (but not pleated or ruffled) it comes to just above the knees but the majority of the upper thigh is still covered because while Mireille is a modern teen, she still dresses modestly because that is her comfort level.

The skirt is white, as is her leggings- not only because it symbolizes purity and innocence, but because white hanbok in korea represent resistance and petition against injustice and abuse of authority (it does not symbolize death like a white kimono does in japan).

     There is very little embroidery on the bottom edge of the skirt and it looks like golden outlines of shining suns. (Optional if you think it looks too busy)

          Her shoes are traditional unhye in canary yellow- to represent taking action.

         (These are to incorporate the 5 colors of korea which is found in most traditional wear, with the exception of black (death) which has been replaced with the pale lavender for a gentler look.)

Her item that contains the kamiko is a traditional rounded hand fan, dandeon.

The tasseled knot hanging from the bottom of the fan is rainbow. The picture painted on the paper part of the fan changes depending on the power she wishes to use- if she wanted to use the power of wind, she would spin the handle to flip the fan to the other side and you would see a picture of a gust of wind blowing away clouds. For rain, flip again and the picture changes to dark clouds with rain falling, etc. Then it is simply a matter of waving the fan in the direction she wishes the selected weather to go, just like how in canon, Stormy Weather/Climatika had to point her parasol to direct her powers. Please draw a weather symbol of your choice. It should be simple and cute- like the kind you would expect a teen weather girl to show the forecast on a map. 

She does not fly with wings, but like an asian dragon does not fly but rather grabs clouds to crawl across the sky, Fairy Weather steps on tiny blue balls of flame (no bigger than tennis balls) like stepping stones. (This is another nod to old Korean folklore).

 She still has Mireille’s gentle smile.

Unlike the garish/clownish villains that Hawkmoth creates, the kamikotized heroes that Betterfly creates are beautiful/handsome/cute and actually stylish.
