TTRPGs for people with dyscalculia?
THEME : Dyscalculia Friendly.
Hello friend, I’m going to first point you to the Math-Lite Chaotic Murder Hobos recommendation post I wrote up a year or two ago.
What I understand about dyscalculia is that in can affect the ability to do mental math, but I'm not sure how much it affects number recognition. I have a few games here that ask you to read the faces on a die, but I don't think any of them expect you to do any addition. I hope you find something fun on this list!

Cats of Catthulu, by Joel Sparks.
CATS OF CATTHULHU is the beloved rules-light roleplaying game in which the players take the part of ordinary cats, secretly defending human civilization from the Chaos Cults of the other animals. All the players have to do is act like cats, while the Cat Herder arranges exciting challenges for them—anything from snacky time to daringly interrupting dire rituals.
In Cats of Catthulhu, the way the story will go is always a mystery. You and your friends play to find out what happens. One person, the Cat Herder, arranges the secrets and situations, and sets the scene, but even they don’t know where the night will end. The players take the role of individual, ordinary cats. All you really need to do is act like a cat.
It might be a bit difficult to get your hands on them, but the original dice for Cats of Catthulhu don’t have any numbers on them; instead, they have sad cats and happy cats. Whenever a cat does something, they roll 2 of these dice. Rolling a Happy Cat is a success; rolling a Sad Cat is a failure. The reasoning behind these dice is: cats can’t do math!
If you can’t get your hands on cat dice, you can use any old d6, and regard 1-2 as Sad Cats and 3-6 as Happy Cats. You’ll also want to get some kind of physical token to use as Treats, which are player currency used to allow free re-rolls. Cats of Catthulhu is great for groups who are mostly getting together to just have a fun time, ready to act silly and get into all kinds of shenanigans.
DUSK, by Gila RPGs.
Equipped with the latest suntech, you are tasked with venturing out into the Dusk, and helping bring a new dawn to humanity. The Dusk does not want you there.
Good luck.
In DUSK, you play as Shards, survivors on the planet Obron after the devastating nova-event that saw your world destroyed. Now you wield powerful technology fueled by pieces of your dead sun, in hopes of surviving another day. DUSK uses the LUMEN 2.0 system, and is a diceless RPG focused on resource management rather than luck or chance.
As a diceless game, DUSK feels a lot different from a number of other diceless games, and I think that’s because of the style of game it’s working off of. LUMEN games are more about strategy than they are about narrative, and in DUSK that’s carried forward in the form of Suntech, items that require energy to power and provide specific advantages.
DUSK is still a relatively new game, but the designer is prolific in the amount of quality work he’s released in the past - and so when he says that there’s more to come, you best believe there’s more to come. If you’d still like to roll dice but you like the idea of the setting in this game, you might want to check out NOVA, which also uses the LUMEN system but gives you dice to roll or LUNA, a game about cultists trying to destroy the moon. Both of these games use pools of d6’s and ask you to look for the highest number, so I don’t think there’s that much math involved.
CASE & SOUL, by Briar Sovereign.
CASE&SOUL is a lightweight tabletop game for telling action-packed stories in the mecha genre. CASE&SOUL is designed for one-shots and short to mid length campaigns. Speed through a lightweight downtime; hire freelancers to pad out your Crew’s skills on missions. Customize your playbooks with SOUL moves, and enjoy a cut-down FITD gameplay with just the essentials for fast and flexible sessions.
Forged in the Dark games use a dice pool, rather than abilities with modifiers. You add dice from various places on your worksheet, and try to roll at least one 4 or higher. Rolling a 4 or 5 is usually a mixed success, and rolling a 6 is a complete success. Personally, I’m a big fan of games that use dice pools, as I’m also not a fan of trying to add up all of those numbers, and having to just look for the single highest dice helps speed up action resolution.
At the same time, Forged in the Dark games can have a lot of moving pieces at once, especially if the GM wants to track a large number of factions, or players want to plan multiple-stage missions. CASE & SOUL advertises itself as a slimmed-down version of these kinds of games, but I can’t tell whether or not that is the case when I look at the character sheets. What intrigues me is the CASE and SOUL tracks; I think your CASE is your Mech, and it receives Harm differently than your SOUL, which is an interesting way to measure how much your mech is (or is not) part of you.
Keyforge: Secrets of the Crucible, by Edge Studio.
In the center of the universe hangs the Crucible, a gigantic artificial world created by the enigmatic Architects and home to countless beings and cultures. Here, impossibly advanced technologies mix with arcane powers to make for a setting unlike any other! Uncovering the secrets of this mysterious world will take all your skills—but the potential rewards are boundless…
Explore this world of boundless opportunity in Secrets of the Crucible, a new sourcebook for the Genesys Roleplaying System set in the KeyForge universe!
You’ll need the Genesys Rulebook for this one, because the main reason I’m recommending Secrets of the Crucible is because of the dice system. Genesys dice don’t use numbers; they use symbols that represent success and failure - and they also have symbols that deepen the nuance of each roll. You can roll advantages or disadvantages that calibrate exactly how much you succeed, as well as triumphs or despairs that give you the same kind of highs and lows as a Nat 20 or a Nat 1 in D&D. This means that each roll tells you so much more about what’s going on around you than just whether you open a door or sweet-talk a guard.
As for the setting, Keyforge is originally a card game published by Fantasy Flight games, about a world called the Crucible, full of secrets that various factions are competing to unlock. It reminds me of the worlds of Magic: the Gathering or League of Legends, with various settings that look very distinct from each-other, and represent different styles of play.
SHIVER, by Parable Games.
WHAT IS SHIVER?
SHIVER is a tabletop roleplaying game that lets players bring their favourite scary movies, spooky tv shows, and horror stories to life. Ever wanted to play through the plot of your favourite film on the tabletop? Or wanted to make sequels, prequels and original stories in the worlds of pop culture you love? SHIVER lets you play that!
SHIVER is setting neutral allowing you to play any story, anytime, and as anyone. Want to play a game of teens in survival mode against a zombie horde? Kids on Bikes who dread exploring a haunted house on Halloween night? Or perhaps a medieval monster hunter looking for a werewolf, vampire or mage? SHIVER can deliver stories and characters for anything from cult pulp classic to Cthulhu fuelled eldritch mystery.
The designer of SHIVER set out with the goal of making games easier for his friends, who had similar struggles with games that had too much math involved. Players roll six-sided and eight-sided dice with various symbols on them, looking for the symbol that represents their character's strengths. The more difficult the task is, the more of the required symbol you need. The game itself is recognized as a class-act horror game, good for everything from pulp-action to gothic fiction to slasher horror. If you don't have the special dice, you can substitute with d6's & d8's, or you can use the free Dice Roller designed for this game.
Tournament Arc, by Biscuit Fund Games.
Are you looking to experience the triumphs and defeats of Space Hyper-Basketball? Need to feel the epic highs and dizzying lows of card games in the post-apocalypse? Want to face the trials and tribulations of the cheese-rolling World Circuit?
Tournament Arc is your very own collaborative sports anime experience, made in the diceless Belonging Outside Belonging engine popularized by games like Dream Askew and Wanderhome. In every thrilling episode, you’ll play the part of the Team as they negotiate the complexities of their daily lives, explore a collaboratively created world, and, most importantly, play the Game.
Tournament Arc is both diceless and GM-less, and is designed to tell stories about teambuilding and competitive sports, although the setting appears to be pretty flexible. The Belonging Outside Belonging game system provides each character type with prompts, and sorts those prompts into different categories. Usually there will be some things you can always do that generate tokens as well as narrative obstacles, and then other things that you can only do when you spend tokens - and as a result, also help characters confront those narrative obstacles. If you have players that like having something tactile to keep in their hands as they play, you might like Tournament Arc.
Warehouse Bitches, by Darling Demon Games.
The Time Worm arrived as it was prophesied just as the crown fell upon his head, and all potentials collapsed into a single haunted citadel, which you call Hex City. You are transgender punks and goths from earth, and in this place your powerful hearts make you witches, daemons, beast-people and arcane architects. We bide our time, smoking and drinking, playing video games and eyeing the crumbling walls of our enemy, The Lord of Olympus.
In Warehouse Bitches, you play as one of the titular warehouse-dwelling trans folk in the hellish Hex City. In this GMless Belonging Outside Belonging game with a unique coin-flip mechanic, you'll wield magic, build allies across the city and fight back against the bastards in subtle ways.
I’ve already explained a bit about how Belonging Outside Belonging works, but Warehouse Bitches adds another layer by using coins as tokens. Using coins, your options are different depending on whether or not the coin is on Heads or Tails. The moves on your character sheet are not just differentiated between Strong and Vulnerable, they’re also differentiated between Heads or Tails, and you must have matching sides of the coins showing in order to be able to use those moves. Characters also have Magic moves, which require the player to flip every coin they currently hold, and reassign those coins based on whatever side they land on.
Warehouse Bitches has only 4 playbooks as it stands now, so a group of 4 players is probably the largest group that can play the book as it stands now. The game is GM-less, but looking at the rules, I think it would be possible to have someone pick up the GM role in order to introduce complications and narrate the actions of various other factions in town. Similar to other BoB games, there are zones that have various elements and details that need to be decided as you play, which will also help provide events and interesting features that keep the game fresh and exciting.

Desvelado | Juani Caruso
Finalmente llegué a mi destino.
No te jodo boludo, me estoy volviendo loco.
Si, no te preocupes. Gracias Juani. Anhelando volver a escucharla, volver a verla.
“Juanicar comenzó a seguirte”

A+ by ANANDA PUTRI
Rekomendasi novel pertamaku yaitu A+ karya ANANDA PUTRI
Keren.
Satu kata yang menggambarkan novel ini. Dari segi cerita, karakter, dan narasi. I really like this book. Tentang persahabatan, keluarga, dan cinta semuanya ada. Novel ini juga udah dibikin series. Siapa yang udah nonton? Keren kan seriesnya? Novelnya apalagi, lebih lebih lebih keren👍👍
Anak IPA pasti suka novel ini😋😋. Pasangan Re-Kai gemes banget debatnya pake teori-teori ilmiah.
Semua karakter bagus. Yang paling ku suka jelas, si Re Dirgantara. Badboy sekolah tapi juga si peringkat pertama. Orangnya keren pake banget. Sayang keluarga, apalagi sama adiknya. So sweet abis. And I wish I had a brother like him.
Dia sama Kenan tuh melengkapi banget. Iri banget sama persahabatan Ale Kenan. Ya walaupun akhirnya friendzone wkwkwkwkwk.
Aurora Calista. Paling princess alias manja. Awal-awal dia keliatan antagonis dan nyebelin. Sebelum ketemu sama Io dia cuma gadis manja yang mengubur semua impiannya. Tapi Io berhasil mengubah cara berpikir Aurora.
100000/10 dari aku. luv luv bgt sama novel ini💗💗

Meeting Johnny
Tumblr media
Western AU; Mail Order Spouse Trope
WC: 2,726 CW: None
AN: I'm alive! Sorry this is so short, this was a good stopping point and I need to work on my world-building for Soap before getting to the next part. Just know- I haven't given up on this AU (It's literally my firstborn, blood, and soul, but I will be a bit slow until my brain juices stay flowing. I hope ye enjoy <3
Please see the Introduction for the explanation and precursors to the scene.
Introduction, Biography
--------
Johnny’s proposal to you was quick in terms of a few letters exchanged; three letters in, he invited you to come out and sent you enough money to figure out accommodations to get to him. As soon as you read those words at the post office, you ran home high on endorphins and adrenaline began packing your bags without grandiose care in the world. The fire inside you licked at the bottom of your heart, anger at staying in this shithole for far too long and feeling a sense of belonging- the sense of feeling wanted to make you have an ulterior purpose in life as if a phoenix reborn and spreading its wings while nose-diving into the unknown. When your parents came home as you zipped your bags, you sincerely couldn’t give a flying fuck as you shoved past them and began berating your parents with a grand show of a public yelling match for the neighbors to hear.
Good for you!
You had already planned how to get to him after receiving his first letter back; First step, buying a train ticket that led you to Santa Fe, New Mexico. From there, you had to embark on the Gila Trail, before having to buy your horse and head out on the San Diego Crossings wagon road by yourself.
This trip was a long haul, and you prayed that Johnny would trust in your quickly established faith to wait out for you. The promise of a strong and loving man is all you could think about...
While in your adrenaline-filled escape, you hadn’t plucked the book in your room that hid his photo as a bookmark, but thankfully had grabbed the letter that gave you his directions. While you scavenge your mind to have a solid image of him, you think over his features and re-read the letters countless times.
Johnny has a background of all sorts, having grown up in a family that held their bond strong, especially after his father had passed in a mining cave-in, which rendered him the man of the house from a young age. Even in his brief telling of these events, you could tell he’s moved out to California to find a deeper meaning of himself, create the line in concrete for it to harden as he ages.
That isn’t to say that he has lost his sense of boyishness, not at all in fact. His stories that he wrote even contained small doodles along the borders to better depict what he was writing about, and it was half your mind to cut them out and keep them as little bookmarks or place them in your wallet as a keepsake. He was playful, writing jokes about the smallest things, even letting you in on some secrets about the people in his town before you got there.
While the sense of his flame burned hot in multiple directions, deep in his hearth was a passionate man. Just as he seemed so sweet, with a flick of his wrist the writing would turn into something hot enough to make you blush, averting your eyes as your mind ran wild with his thoughts. He seems to enjoy a bubble bath… but maybe only when you’re in it with him. Even writing about the future and him stating he wants a family by any means, you could only imagine a deep possessiveness inside of him to claim you as such. Even if you were able to have his biological children or not, he’d still make sure you felt like you did.
But back to your journey.
The course of the trains provided you an oversight of the new lands you had yet to ever see, as it was the beginning stages of territories turning into states. The rides were long, and adjusting to the set time zones was a large throw-off to your circadian rhythm. Having already traveled two states west, it was difficult to decide on which line would grant you the fastest access to Johnny. Luckily enough, a kind person in the Denver station helped point out that taking the route from northern Nevadah into California would grant you the fastest time, and ease your solo traveling.
The kind person stated that they were in a similar situation and now waiting for the train, having a bit of time to offer some advice while making it toward their end goal. Thanking them with bountiful wishes and good luck’s in their journey, you were on your way.
It took four more days to find yourself in Temecula, California. An astonishing change from the desert lands that reflected the sun so brightly now showed the capabilities of a plush environment of greenery and clouds. The train station was reached as the sunlight began pouring in over the mountains; being quick on your feet, and from the other settlers being far too tired, you found a deal on the last remaining horse available.
Traveling by horseback prompted challenges with reading Johnny's directions, and you did not want to admit that you were lost. The lack of directory and signage left you getting flustered already by noon and being left alone in such a rural area in between towns felt far more daunting than any part of this trip. Passing by stagecoaches who all seemed to know their way around, you filed in line through a secondary road filled with houses in the valley of the small mountains.
Three hours later and a small urge to cry while having given up on re-reading the letter, you accepted defeat when you saw someone sitting on their porch down a dirt road with his house being the only one there.
“Hi! Excuse me, sir?” The sound of your voice breaks through the stillness of the settling valley, enough to make the man look up from the table he is currently hunched over.
“Would you mind helping me out by giving me directions?” Willing yourself to not blush or shrink into your large coat, embarrassment running through your chest while in the new environment.
For a moment, the man doesn't seem to acknowledge you, having to do a double take before his eyes widen in surprise. The toothpick that was delicately hanging on his lip falls to the ground, less he even notices before he sits up straight readjusting his hat, and clears his throat.
“‘Course, my dear. How can I be of service.” His accent is rich, leading you to believe that he’s been raised in the West, and has a perfectly smooth twang to his speech as it leaves his side smile.
“I’m looking for the country store… There’s supposed to be an old Coke sign on it.” The words leave you in a higher pitch than you’d normally speak, having a handsome stranger stare at you with a wide-eyed stare as he watches your lips move. “And to be honest- I wouldn’t know if I’m in the right place to begin with.”
As if snapped back to reality again, eye contact cut short as he blinks before looking down the road and then back to you. “Ah, store’ way down yonder with a crossing sign. If yer’ headed west then a left will take you to the interstate,” A nod confirms his sense of confidence in his directions, explaining it plain and simple as the roads that his house lies on.
The smile that crosses your face lights your eyes, and it's the most relief you’ve gotten ever since getting on horseback. “Thank you, I really do appreciate it.” Your hands pull on the reigns of the horse, already turning around to try and beat sunset before it's too dark to ride alone.
Before you’re out of earshot, “When you’re in, you gotta stop and ask Ms. Bell for somma’ her sweet tea. But remember, take a right, and you’ll end up right back here to me.” The wink that leaves him makes you question if you’re seeing things in the late light of the day, but you’re sure he can see the blush that burns your cheeks.
A laugh leaves you before nodding in response, now clicking your horse into a quick trot while you’re high on the adrenaline from the interaction. Well… at least you have a backup plan in case your bachelor doesn't work out.
Arriving far too quickly than you’d expect, the store was only a few minutes down the road and concealed by a line of trees. Hitching your horse and walking into the store on stiff legs, you plan on following the stranger's advice to get some sweet tea.
The bell above the door jingles as you walk in, catching the attention of the older woman behind the counter. Here eyes take in your form, surprised such a fresh-faced person has arrived this late into the day. “How can I help you, sweetheart?” Her voice rings out a bit rough, someone who knows how to pull her weight if trouble would arrive.
“I’m actually looking to get to someone's home near town, but I was told to make my way from this store to not get lost.” A pause as your eyes take in the scenery of the rustic store; A layer of dust settled onto the wooden floors as shelves are stocked with an assortment of canned goods, spices, and a few refrigerators labeled as eggs and milk. “Met a stranger on the way and was told I should get some sweet tea here, too.”
Her eyes, still studying you as you speak and noting your accent, or lack thereof, bring a small quirk to her face. “Well, lemme get you some of my tea while you get yourself found.” Leaving her seat she makes her way to a wall in the back, pulling out two large mason jars with a light brown liquid.
“That stranger you met- was he small ways up north fr’mere?” The smile on her face grows as she walks back to her seat at the register as you walk forward to meet her.
“Yes… A lone house down a single road. Blue eyes, brown hair, and some stubble.” The answer is pulled from you automatically, reciting the mental image of him.
“Toothpick in his mouth?”
The question is almost absurd in how spot-on she is, but then again this is a very small town. “Yes.”
The answer makes her laugh, somewhat un-ladylike when compared to the women from your home, and the noise makes you startle in place for a second.
“That damn Johnny makes me work my ass off to keep this tea in stock. He’s been so stressed waiting for his person to come ‘nd has been drinking me straight out of this stuff.” She levels when calming down for a moment, now placing the jars in bags.
She has yet to look back up at you and fails to notice your limbs seemingly frozen in place as the air leaves your lungs. That was Johnny?
“I’m so sorry ma’am. Did you say that was Johnny? As in MacTavish?”
The rustle of the brown paper bags stops, her eyes darting up to find yours. “Well, I’ll be damned.” She murmurs lowly before a sly smile takes over her face. “You’re here, and you’re damned too good from what you made yourself out to be, sweetheart.”
Still frozen with your mind reeling, adrenaline begins to pump back into your bloodstream while a jolt alights your muscles. “Oh- I’m so sorry ma’am, I must get going its getting late and-”
The sliding of the jars on her counter interrupts your rambling, “Ah ah, its Ms. Bell dear, and you best be taking this with you to him. Don’t worry bout nothin’ but I’m happy to welcome you to the town.”
If you looked now, you could notice the tremor in your hands. Nodding and taking the bag, a rush of endless ‘thank you’s’ and an elated smile seats itself permanently before loading the bags on the saddle and turning back around to start galloping forward back towards where you once were.
The sound of horses and wagons isn’t a constant to Santa Ysabel during the night hours, usually only occurring after the dayshift ends. As Johnny sits on his porch, his mind muddled with confusion as he stews over his soon-to-be partner arrives, thoughts of the stranger asking for directions makes him confused.
Fresh toothpick in his mouth as he widdles away at a bar of tallow, working to pull off glycerine for work. Surely that wasn’t a coincidence, right? The picture you sent was muddled down with water stains, and he blamed it on the damn train that sent your envelopes out this way. It was beginning sunset, and though he couldn't make out most of your features because of the coat you concealed yourself in-
The bar of soap drops to the ground and he curses, now jumping out of his mind and into the present.
The sound of hooves beating and approaching make him look up.
There, Here, you’re back again and the whites of your teeth are illuminated by the fading sun to show your smile.
Slowing down your horse to a stop, breathing in a slight pant as compared to your horses, the smile never leaves you.
“Figure you need some more directions, sweetheart?” His drawl leaves him, standing to make his way towards you.
“Take off your hat.” The response is curt, and demanding in a way, but that glimmer of excitement makes it sound so sweet.
Johnny himself is befuddled for a moment, eyebrow cocked but complies anyway. Now raising the hat off of his head and holding it to his chest, his eyes answer for him. This what you wanted?
A small sound of excitement leaves you, nodding before your leg swings over your saddle, dismounting with a small jump and walking forward.
“Johnny, it's me.”
A swear leaves his mouth, accompanied by a rush of air before he drops his hat to the side and plucks hit toothpick out with it. The smile that coats his face makes him appear so young and boyish at heart as he moves forward with arms open to wrap around your hips with a low growl, “C’mere you,”
You could be embarrassed by the small squeal that leaves you, but you couldn’t give a rat's ass on anything right now. He spins you around for a quick moment, arms around your body as he lifts you easily with his strength.
Staring down into his eyes, you grab a shoulder while the other hand cups his jaw. “Didn’t know it was you until Ms. Bell said something.”
He laughs, head tilting back in bewilderment at the situation and excitement. “Talkin bout her sweet tea?” He asks while setting you down on your feet, hands never straying as he pulls you against him and traverses over your body.
“Yes, gave me some to bring home.”
The use of home sparks his heart with a bright thrum, butterflies encasing his stomach while he rumbles out a laugh. The texture of his hands is both soft and ruff, his thumbs rubbing over your cheekbones before one hand moves to brush over your hair, cupping the back of your neck.
“Well, in that case, welcome home, sweety.” The rumble sends a shiver down your spine, eyes darting over his face before settling on his lips. A breath settles before you look back into his sharp blue eyes, as he looks at you seemingly waiting for permission.
A small nod of your head and gently pulling him towards you, the band on the back of your head pulls you forward as he brings your lips together. The taste of him has a spice to it, the favor of cinnamon cotes his lips and brings a slow burn over yours while his body’s warmth brings another wave.
The stubble of his beard rubs your face- and it's a welcome feeling as compared to the winds of the valleys whipping past you. Something you’d gladly leave your skin bright red and raw from hours of the feeling.
Before growing too heated, you part with a small gasp and trail him slightly before blinking to find his smirk growing as a low rumble vibrates against you. “Let's get you settled in, then we can celebrate s’more.”

also ok so indulge me a little re: gizzposting BUT
i think the thing that a lot of the gizzverse analysis etc misses is just the common thread behind pretty much all of the more sweeping Concept stuff: The Apocalypse. stu is pretty obviously into exploring the concept, as interested as he is in ecology and The Environment and not exploding the earth. hence the myriad albums we get that are all the earth exploding in fun different ways.
if there's one gizzverse it's The Shared Apocalypse and What Happens After: earth gets fucked over and maybe some people try to escape to mars, maybe it gets extra destroyed by a magically mutated gila monster, maybe it is spiritually healed thru the spirit of human beings tapping into the power of the moon goddess chang'e, maybe it gets destroyed by the lightning lord, maybe it gets turned into vomit.
i dunno man it's neat

Re: the gila monster/ozempic thing: yes but also no. Ozempic/semaglutide (non-brand name) is a synthetic form of one of the proteins in gila monster venom. It's not actually made from the venom, and whilst it's a new drug and there's still a lot of questions about side effects and long term impacts etc etc, so far, it seems relatively safe.
And like, fuck weight loss drugs and the pressure for fat people to lose weight as a whole, but semaglutide was developed initially as a diabetes medication, and it works wonders. Like, a lot of people who could not control their blood sugar using any other medication available can reach and maintain healthy levels on semaglutide - it's just that, coincidentally, a lot of them lost considerable amounts of weight in the process, and the weight loss industry loves a shiny new toy.
So like, thank you gila monsters, fuck you predatory, fatphobic pharmaceutical companies
Ah, okay, interesting!
Of course the weight loss industry will weight loss industry. But yeah, good to know that there’s legitimate use for diabetic patients.

Mini Mahou Mar....y Y3 Week 4
Hey everyone and welcome to the fourth and final week of Mini Mahou March May! You can find the main post for the event here X.
The Prompt for the week of May 22nd-28th is...
Desert Animal Magical Idol!
The classic genre, often times a girl with a trinket allowing her to change into something or someone else, and sometimes royalty from another kingdom sent to earth to better herself
This is, of course, not a full overview of the genre, which also includes more traditional mischievous witchcraft, the occasional rival, and fighting cat themed villains.
Scorpions. Fennec Foxes. Pangolins. Saiga. Gila Monster. Dung beetle? Go nuts show antelope bucks.
I’m only looking for a visual character design, something as simple as a single fullish-body picture, but you are more than welcome to go as wild as you want with trinkets, backstory, information, alt outfits, all that good stuff. Also I say girl but girl boy nb other as long as it’s a magical humanoid gender be damned, thumbs up. (Also nothing 18+ please. Your characters can be, just not your art for this)
Make your post and tag me before end of day May 28th (11.59EST) and I will be re-blogging participants here next Monday, with everything tagged Mini Mahou May (and mini mahou march).

Please and thank you: tell me something about the desert, I’ve never met one, but would like to. Something big or small, just something lovely?
in the sonoran desert, when it rains during the monsoon, the desert petrichor mingles with the exudates of the creosote/chaparral and makes the most incredible scent. i smelled in when i visited in 2021 and it made me cry instantly
in phoenix, the introduced mediterranean gecko (Hemidactylus turcicus) has become incredibly common, and most of my childhood lizard memories are either of encounters with them, or with the tree lizard (Urosaurus ornatus). the geckos are really hidey and stay in the shadows and come out at night (you'll see them a lot around lamps eating the attracted insects), but the tree lizards are showy, and they love to dash around on cinderblock walls and soak up the sun, and do pushups at other tree lizards (males have a bright blue patch on their throat). until recently tree lizards were classified as part of a larger Iguanidae family, but were recently re-classified into the Phrynosomatidae family, which also includes the horned lizards* and spiny lizards, and you can see the relation between them in the shape of the top of their skull around the parietal eye. also i just found out that the oldest known member of this family, excavated in Mongolia, has been named Desertiguana, not to be confused with the desert iguana (Dipsosaurus dorsalis) which is found in the sonoran desert (& bordering deserts) another incredible thing about the desert are tadpole shrimp (Triops) and spadefoot toads (genus Spea and Scaphiopus). during the monsoon these'll pop out of the dust and spend the next week or so fucking in the very temporary pools, and lay their eggs. the shrimp eggs will not hatch (and iirc need to be dried out before they will hatch) and will settle into swiftly drying mud. the spadefeet eggs will hatch and then mature incredibly swiftly, and the little toads will dig into the drying dirt and cover themselves with a membrane that will keep them moist until the next rains come.
also the sonoran desert at sunrise is just incredible, visually, and also aurally. all of the many many species of bird found in the desert sending out their symphonic cacophany into the morning. warbling cactus wren, whistling thrasher's and creaking grackles and the little cheep of the verdin (a little green-grey bird with a bright yellow head that's often found on the palo verde, which has green bark and bright yellow flowers). in some areas you might see gila woodpeckers nesting in holes in saguaros, and in the phoenix area a population of introduced peach-faced lovebirds has become established, and occupy seemingly a niche that nothing else was in, and sometimes you might see them amongst the cactopodes also. *these fuckers eat ants and are so specialized in eating ants that they have a compound in their blood to neutralize formic acid and if they don't eat enough ants that need neutralized the compound builds up and poisons them. also some species can shoot blood out of their eyes. please don't make them do this

Heyyy, do you know any games where the classes/playbooks are completely asymmetrical?
Keep the good work!
THEME: Asymmetrical Games
Hello friend! I found a few! Even better, each game rec is a different genre!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Slayers, by Gila RPGs.
The City sits at the nexus of the world. Once you're inside it, it is the world. Something drives the borders of The City ever-onward, crawling towards the horizon. Urban sprawl made real. Neighbourhoods appear and disappear overnight, The City is filled to brim with no shortage of interesting characters, cultures…and monsters. That's where you come in, Slayer.
Slayers is a tabletop RPG of mercenaries and monster hunters for hire. Known by locals as Slayers, players wander a haunted city, cursed long ago to expand towards the horizon forever. Slayers help clean out the monsters that infest the alleyways and shadows, and those that the city seems to be manifesting on its own.
This is the first game that comes to mind when I think of asymmetrical play. Slayers is probably one of the foremost asymmetrical game out there, with the same target for success, but with a different way of achieving that success for each character playbook. If you’re interested in more scenarios or character options for this game, you just need to check out the Slayers tag on Itch to see what the community has created.
Drifters, also by Gila RPGS.
Drifters is a tabletop RPG of cursed gunslingers, wandering the wastes of the frontier in search of problems, and purpose. Carrying a capital-G Gun, you have been granted near immortality. It only costs everything in return.  Drift now, your voidborn Gun draws you down the road.
Drifters uses the same core mechanic as Slayers, but re-casts the players as cursed gunslingers. The creator has broken character creation into two parts, so that each Drifter is made up of their Background and their Gun. This is a development of Slayers, so if you want to see what can be done to push the system and play with it, or if you just want to see what asymmetry looks like in a different setting, you should check this game out.
Hell Cabin, by World Champ Games Co.
HELL CABIN is a tabletop horror rpg for 2-4 players based on films like Evil Dead, The Lodge, and The Rental.
Each of four roles (Survivor, Friends, Cabin, and Evil) has unique dice mechanics, strengths, and goals to allow for a truly gm-less horror experience. Each will interact and compete for power while accepting an inevitable fate.
This game is GM-Less, so it’s a great option for a play group where everyone wants a little bit of narrative control. The Survivor is one playbook, representing one person who cannot die, and uses a d20. The Friends are all played by another person, who directs them like a troupe, and uses d6’s. The Cabin uses d10s to introduce the setting elements and gives the characters setpieces to interact with, and the Evil uses d8s and a point-buy system to slowly take over the Friends.
If you want to re-visit a classic horror story using unique mechanics, I definitely recommend checking this game out.
Born of Cold, also by World Champ Game Co.
Born of Cold is an asymmetrical and gm-less storytelling game for 2-4 players. Each of four available roles has different rules & mechanics to interact with one another and tell a compelling and hazardous tale.
Another game by Adam Vass, this is another gm-less game that gives different roles and different dice mechanics to each character. This is a re-purposing of Hell Cabin, but the roles in this game are The Cursed, The Snow Queen, The Winter, and The Forest. If you want to try out asymmetrical mechanics in a story of survival, struggle, and tragedy, then Born of Cold might be worth checking out.
