Ukraine is not just sitting around waiting for aid to arrive. It is developing its own arms industry that is taking a toll on Russian aggressors.

Warbirds of Ukraine is a company which makes innovative cutting edge drones.

Ukraine puts MacGyver to shame. When they experienced supply chain issues for foreign components for UAVs, they simply started manufacturing their own.

The name Warbirds of Ukraine reminds me of the Romulans in Star Trek. Don't be surprised if they develop cloaking technology for their UAVs.

Most people know that Ukraine sunk the Moskva, flagship of Russia's Black Sea Fleet, with a Ukrainian-made Neptun R-360 missile. It is not the only homegrown ingenuity put to use by Ukraine.

In addition to the UAVs and missiles, here are other examples of Ukrainians developing technology to push back Putin's invaders.

Ukraine is developing what amounts to compact tank drones.

Ukrainian versatile unmanned combat vehicle undergoes frontline testing

Ukraine is manufacturing custom self-propelled howitzers called the 2s22 Bohdana which can fire NATO-standard 155 mm caliber shells. They have a range of 40 km.

Ukraine is doing a lot for its own defense. And NATO countries may be interested in some of these technologies for their own defense needs.

But when you're under attack by a country with 3.5 times your population which holds vast oil reserves and is led by an irrational dictator bent on restoring the hegemony of a defunct empire, you need some outside help to survive.

So if you're in the United States, contact your House member in Washington and demand that aid to Ukraine, which was left out of the measure to keep the government running through mid-November, be approved ASAP.

Spectember day 5 - leviathan planet fauna

4 different animals from the leviathan planet, starting off with what I’ve dubbed squidfish & raybirds. they share a distant common ancestor from which they inherited the same body plan, but they went in completely different directions with it

both are characterized by their radially symmetric body, with 4 eyes and a + shaped mouth. squidfish are the ones that stayed aquatic, with 4 large, flat tentacles to propel them through the water, and 4 fins along the body that they can move around as needed to help with steering. to a squidfish, all 4 sides are “up” and they can orient themselves whichever way they need to

raybirds migrated onto land and almost immediately took to the skies, turning their fins into wings. unlike squidfish, raybirds are limited to one specific side being up and one being down. two of their torso appendages have morphed into wings, with bony spurs used in offense and defense. the other two are attached to fans that male raybirds use to show off to potential mates. the top two tail appendages have attached to the wing membrane and assist in flight, with the other two growing strong and acting as a teeny little pair of legs

'There will be 1,000 units per day' — Ukrainian commander warns of increased Russian Shahed drone attacks

Robert “Magyar” Brovdi, commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, warned on July 4 that Russian Shahed drone strikes could increase to 1,000 per day, prompting Ukraine to consider relocating drone production.

“Under the pressure of increasing mass use by the enemy of a cheap, but everywhere accessible Shahed… There will be 1,000 units (launched) per day and more,” he said in a post to social media.

Russia regularly strikes Ukrainian cities in drone attacks that heavily rely on the Iranian-designed Shahed drone.

Russia launched drones and ballistic missiles at the Ukrainian capital, injuring at least 26 people and killing one overnight on July 4. President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia launched a record 550 drones and missiles during the seven-hour barrage.

“I am not scaring anyone,” Brovdi said, adding that he is citing the result of an intelligence analysis.

Kyiv is now considering relocating drone production amid the increased threat of Russian attacks, he said.

Ukraine has sought to expand its own defense production abroad, reaching key agreements with allies in recent weeks.

Copenhagen and Kyiv signed an agreement on July 4 that allows Ukrainian defense companies to open production facilities in Denmark, Strategic Industries Minister Herman Smetanin said.

Skyeton Prevail Solutions, a joint venture between Ukrainian drone manufacturer Skyeton and U.K.-based defense company Prevail Solutions, will manufacture and supply Raybird drones in the U.K., the two companies announced on July 2.

Zelensky and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer met in London on June 23, where the two leaders agreed to an “industrial military co-production agreement."

New UK-Ukraine joint venture to manufacture, supply Ukrainian-designed drone in Britain

Skyeton Prevail Solutions, a joint venture between Ukrainian drone manufacturer Skyeton and U.K.-based defense company Prevail Solutions, will manufacture and supply Raybird drones in the U.K., the two companies announced on July 2.

“Skyeton — a Ukrainian unmanned aircraft systems company with 19 years of engineering pedigree, and Prevail Partners — a leading U.K. defense and security company, announced a joint venture to fast-track the volume manufacture, supply, and support for the integration of its best-in-class drone into U.K. military applications,” a statement by the two companies said.

Ukraine has developed drones that have proven to be effective amid the onset of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine in February 2022 and Russia’s initial invasion of Ukraine in 2014.

President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer met in London on June 23, where the two leaders agreed to an “industrial military co-production agreement."

“The joint venture will scale the availability of Raybird with new manufacturing in the U.K. for both deployment in Ukraine and provide the necessary integration expertise from Prevail Partners for U.K. and other Western militaries,” the statement said.

U.K. lawmaker Iain Duncan Smith described the move as an “important step” for U.K. drone production.

Skyeton says its Raybird drone has over 350,000 flight hours and is responsible for billions of dollars in Russian losses.

Ukraine has relied on drones to meet its own defense needs, as foreign military aid has fallen short in supplying necessary weapons and air defenses.
