Was talking with a friend and realized that Kellan is taking Eldraines storybook vibes with him. In Wilds of Eldraine, we see Kellan and pals journey through a bunch of well trodden fairytales to, say it with me folks, save the kingdom under a terrible spell.

He then goes to Ixalan and goes on a cave diving treasure hunt.

He then goes to Ravnica and runs smack dab into a murder mystery.

Now he's going to Thunder Junction to pull off a heist.

Even in planes without Kellans involvement, he is indicative of the new tone. Bloomburrow is just the secret of nimh but with a lightning otter(Ral Zarek my beloved)

Kellan is the centerpiece of a bunch of stock episodes wherever he goes, and honestly, I kinda vibe with the interdimensional tourism angle mtg is going for after the phyrexian invasion.

It's a weird shift in tone after all this time with the phyrexian invasion, but I like goofy shit like this so I'm cool with it.

In old arts of Dark Confidant and Lurking Informant, there's big lipped blob people with two fingers, scryfall doesnt tag them, what are they?

That is a great question! The answer is: I have no idea.

It's possible this was a figure in the original Ravnica World Guide, but I have no way of verifying that. In some cases these one-offs are elements from early world guides that end up not being used later, and in others it was just something the artist invented for the piece. Early Ravnica was not nearly as well defined in its worldbuilding back then as it is today.

Why does Yarus not have a tag on here? Man’s amazing! He dedicated himself to waking the old gods*, succeeds, possibly puts into motion the pale bear prophecy on ravnica**, was kind and thankful that team detective didn’t kill the rampage mole, then proceeded to almost stab oba in her own world tree with just a random rafter he grabbed.

"I dare for the Clans!" shouted Yarus. "I dare for Ravnica! You are not the world, you're a gardener, and I have never accepted your authority over me." He spat at Oba.

Like how’s this not the coolest character?

Courteous, honest (straight-up admitted on multiple occasions to detectives that he would’ve released anzrag from custody if he could’ve), willing to attend a meeting of the guild leaders as the gruul representative without claiming to be its leader, he was even bitten by massacre girl! I just think he’s neat! Not sure if he’s on the level of kitt kanto my favourite, but he’s pretty close!

I know I say it a lot, about so many different cards, but after getting me my first prerelease victory, being one of the best characters this story, and finally giving me a playable historic brawl deck on arena, I think yarus has earned his place as my newest commander.

Since then, he's been attempting to summon the rest of the ancient Gruul gods into existence. Maybe I'm just seeing trans headcanons everywhere because of my preferred way of writing DS9, but Jace is so perfect for trans headcanons! He appeared on Ravnica with no memory of his past. Given the rules of the world he lives in and the fact that he has no idea he did it to himself, there is then so much story potential in "I have no memory and also don't feel right in my body; clearly whatever erased my memory did something to my body."

Also imagine the increased potential for Liliana messing with his head. She already throws him off-balance routinely; this would be a fantastic additional lever for her to pull to keep him under her control.

WHO are d + g??? from going through your tag i am obsessed with them

🥰 it stands for dekkos and gaius, they're two PCs from our latest ravnica campaign (gaius is mine, dekkos is nick's) and they were lawyers* from rival guilds who got dragged into saving the world together and then got really obsessed with each other. well. gaius was obsessed with dekkos, cast warding bond on him to save his life in session 2 while dekkos later cast dominate person on him to force him to give over debt to his guild which made gaius ha— well. anyway. they have something wrong with them and they're insane and i love their dynamic a lot. also we realised the other day that if you broke them down to bare essentials they would be angel boyfriend x monster boyfriend because of their class/race which was entirely unintentional but kinda fun.
