thinking about lee shore again <3 THE eridave fic of all time. im so scatterbrained but take this, theyre adhd4autistic and im right about that

Dave had heard a lot of things about Eridan before he ever met him. Terezi had complained about his self-important rants, and Vriska, hilariously, had said that he was unnecessarily dramatic. Sollux had said a lot- none of it positive. In typical fashion, Karkat had been the only one to break the pattern, admitting, privately, that Eridan could be a good friend when he wasn’t too busy being a terrible one.

But there were certain things Dave had expected, going into meeting Eridan. Ranting had been one of them. And yet, when he finally heard it, he was struck with the thought that no one was really doing it justice.

It had been years since then, and to say Dave was the same person he had been then- or that Eridan was, for that matter- would be a lie so blatant it would qualify as a federal crime. However, sometimes he still got snagged on it, caught up in the way Eridan looked when he really got going.

The thing was, Eridan was passionate. He had a lot of thoughts about a lot of things, and while many of those thoughts were incredibly bullshit, there were some things that he did actually know. If Dave got him started on the history of war strategy, he could go for hours, pacing back and forth across the room and waving his hands around as he got into detail about every strategist, every war they fought in, the tall tales and the truth, their influences, and general information that no one Dave knew would ever care about, besides Eridan. It wasn’t the self-important bullshit Terezi had promised him- it was just Eridan, lit up and passionate the way he was so infrequently.

Dave had never given a single shit about war strategy, but he had grown to give quite a few about Eridan, over the years. There was just something stunning about him when he got into it, driven and fiery and stupidly fucking attractive.

Dave watched him pace back and forth from the counter, leaned back on his hands with his empty glass beside him, half-listening as Eridan fumed over the movie that had been paused for so long now that the screen had gone dark. It was interesting information- something about guns and prop inaccuracies- but somewhere along the way Dave had gotten lost thinking about what Eridan’s hips felt like under his hands and the way Eridan scowled at him when he kissed him mid-rant, flushed all the way to the tips of his fins.

Fortunately, it didn’t take much to beckon Eridan over. Just an outstretched hand, and Eridan was drifting over to him, distractedly stepping between his knees and lacing his fingers into Dave’s. “It’s even worse when you consider the militarization of movies, in recent years,” he was saying, brows furrowed into a scowl. “If the military’s payin’ all these bigshot companies so damn much, how come their guns still look like such bullshit?”

“‘Cause they’re only funding the ones that make the military look good?” Dave said, running his thumb along Eridan’s jaw.

At an actual response, Eridan blinked, seeming to really see him for the first time. His head tilted into Dave’s hand instinctively, but he seemed confused by it, like he couldn’t figure out when Dave had started looking at him like he wanted to kiss him stupid. (It had been about five seconds after he’d hit pause.) “Well, I guess, but-” His eyes flickered to Dave’s lips, then away. He finally let go of the remote he’d been gesturing with the whole time, setting it down on the counter. “With the internet, there’s just not really an excuse to get it wrong anymore. The information’s all there.”

The corner of Dave’s mouth twitched upward, his hand sliding to cup Eridan’s cheek properly. “You’re such a nerd.”

Eridan scoffed. “Oh, sure, because you’re-”

He didn’t get a chance to finish, because Dave decided that second that kissing Eridan was more important than hearing about whatever he was.

Yayyy, I dressed as Terezi! I hope I'm not late for the party🎉.

As time passed by and creators had finished up their preparations, people began to trickle into the building. It seemed small and dull from the outside, but looks can be quite deceiving. As feet began to pass through the doorway eyes widened and there were even a few audible gasps as heads turned to look around the room.

The area was quite a sight to behold. It was about the size of a school gym, but it had a high vaulted ceiling that soared far above everyone’s heads. At the very top drooped thick, bright strings of neon colors that illuminated the whole space with vibrant light, and floating in the air between the floor and ceiling were several platforms with chair and sofas for hanging out and even one platform just for anime battles. On the solid black walls hung various decorations for the holiday, and in the far right corner sat a large movie screen.

Across from the entrance lies a long bar-like area for food to be served, on the left are several tables to play games and eat at, to the right comfy chairs and sofas along with several stations for different video games were splayed about, and up above the entrance was another floating platform holding the DJ booth. Finally, in the center of the expanse is a shifting dance floor which glowed a myriad of colors, constantly changing and flowing with the beat.

From the DJ’s booth, which was currently blasting spooky scary skeletons, swooped a blur of yellow and red, which landed down in front of the group that had just been walking in. A very enthusiastic Rawlyx, dressed up as Bill Cipher, smiled eagerly at the other creators.

“Welcome welcome welcome!! Happy Character Day! Get ready to have lots of fun!! we’ll have some games later on, but for now, it’s time to party!! Ehehehehehthisisgonnabesomuchfun”

She hops back into the air on her brightly glowing wings and flies up to a platform in the middle of the room as more and more Creators begin to pour in.

It seems the party has only just begun.

My NOTP for them - I... Do I have any Gamzee notps? None of the general ships you see around really get to me all that much?

This is gonna sound weird, but I'm so picky about end game gamtav that it ALMOST creeps into notp territory. It's really, really hard for me to enjoy endgame/Earth C gamtav unless it's very specifically done. It's so hard for me to see a future for Gamzee at the end of Act 7. They're at such points in their lives that I absolutely would NOT want to see them in relationship immediately at the end of canon. There would need to be countless amounts of emotional progress, growth, and/or redemption on their own terms first, THEN they can get together :3

Not a notp, but I am pretty strictly pale gamkar. Not a flushed gamkar person, but I still find it cute so shrug???

My BROTP for them - GAMZEE AND TEREZI. TEREZI AND GAMZEE AND TEREZIIIIIIII. THAT BADASS SUBJUG AND LEGISLACERATOR COMBOOOOO. DEADLY. DON'T FUCK WITH THEM. FUCK YOU HUSSIE THEY'RE QUAD CORNERS AND WOULD KILL FOR EACH OTHER.

My OTP for them - pfft. Psssh. Pft. Uhhhh, like I even need to say this one. I can survive off the dew of a single ginko leaf, the energy of the universe, and pbj sandwiches. (Link is to my 3k+ word rant on why gamtav is my absolute otp of otp’s. I would absolutely kill for them.)

My second choice pairing for them - Pale gamkar all the way. Love me some opposite moirails. I realized recently why I think Gamzee is so good for Karkat.With almost anyone else Karkat talks with, Karkat gets push back in some way, and I’m not saying that’s a bad thing! Or that it’s bad for Karkat! I was just thinking about that one chance Gamzee got to calm Karkat down post murderstuck and it was Karkat literally just so ready to fight and Gamzee is just “nah man :o( just maybe thinking you should try to calm down a little” and Karkat just seemed... so floored? By the lack of fight? And he’s basically just, “OH. RIGHT. OKAY. YEAH, YOU’RE MY MOIRAIL. YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO CALM ME DOWN. OKAY. I’M CALMING DOWN.”

And it just made me think of Karkat not knowing how to deal with Gamzee’s lack of pushback so he just... runs out of steam? Because he has no conflict to cycle off of? And idk it just makes my heart soft...

And speaking of opposite moirails, Karkat is just the HIGHEST strung motherfucker while Gamzee can be THE most pliable pile of soft goo. They balance each other :’D

My fluffy pairing for them - Not a romantic ship, but I adore a familial relationship between Gamzee and Calliope and Caliborn. Either with him just really caring about them as babies or AU's where he can be more of a dad to them (CALLIOPE SEEING GAMZEE AS A DAD POST CANON FUCKS ME UP DON'T TOUCH MEEE I'M IN THE THROES OF EMOTION.) Or humanstuck AU's where he's actually their dad, older brother, or adopts them ugh they get me. Dads who don't know what they're doing, all they know is they care a lot and trying their best? So good.

OH AND I GO STARK RAVING MAD FOR PARENT/CHILD DYNAMIC KARAKO AND GAMZEE. OLDER TEEN/YOUNG ADULT KARAKO TAKING IN TINY BABY GAMZEE??? AHHHHHHHHHHH???????

My angsty pairing for them - This is just copy pasted from my Terezi ask:

 If I don't fully indulge with bffs Gamzee and Terezi in an AU, then I love me some ashen Gamzee♣️Rose♣️Terezi when it comes to more canon compliant material. With how upset over his qudrants Gamzee was in openbound? Plus it being post murderstuck? PLUS Rose having to deal with some of the most difficult trolls? I feel like there's a whole slew of really delicious angst just waiting there. A Gamzee afraid of losing Karkat, a Terezi lost in her guilt over killing Vriska, and both tearing into each other in some ugly, misdirected pitch flirting, Rose would absolutely have her hands full and probably get a kick out of it. I also love the idea of Rose just seeing it as a fun social learning experience "oooh troll quadrants and getting to play therapist" type thing, but then she really starts to understand the depth of the bonds ashen relationships have and she really comes to care so much for both of them.

Honorable mention to pitch Aradia♠️Gamzee with Gamzee being full on servant of Lord English and Aradia trying to be the keeper of time and the two of them meeting and clashing over and over throughout time and space as two opposing forces.

My favorite poly ship for them - Oooh, ho ho ho, love me some Gam♥️Equius♥️/♠️Tavros. Gamzee adores Equius so much tbh. Gamzee was just a huge sweetheart to Equius pre-game and just loved talking to him. Equius seemed pretty pitch (and I love Gamzee♠️Equius) towards him, but I think I like the idea of Equius letting himself be loved and recieve soft red affection from Gamzee is so cute.

I have a lot more thoughts about them, but it mostly focuses on Tavros and Equius’ dynamic, so I’ll save it for my Tavros ask.

My weirdest pairing for them - Probably the weirdest I've got for Gamzee is him pailing his auspistice, Arsast Aporia, a fantroll from Miracle Child. I call it "The Naughty Auspistice" series. It really all started while talking about the idea of Gamzee and Arsast kissing in a hypothetical game of truth or dare and then they realize, "Uh oh, they kind liked it," then Arsast gets the funky idea to distract Gamzee's desire to pail Sephar (the other ashmate), by pailing Gamzee himself. It's just... I've explored 'rails with pails before, but this is this the first time considering clubs who pail (there's probably a more clever term for it out there). It's just some silly thing I've come to really enjoy eheheh, especially with the social inappropriateness of it and them kind of needing to sneak around to do it.
