Lucan was almost as well-known for philanthropic work as Tayil herself was, after all. “Yes. He believes in the equality of all races on Norrath – we’re all equally capable of serving Lucan D’Lere.”

NZ Initiates Comprehensive Review of Weather Forecasting System

  Addressing Climate Change Impacts

In response to the increasing impacts of climate change, the New Zealand government has taken a significant step by commissioning a comprehensive review of the country's weather forecasting system. This proactive measure comes as State Owned Enterprises Minister Duncan Webb emphasized the critical role played by MetService Te Ratonga Tirorangi and NIWA Taihoro Nukurangi in delivering weather forecasts. He further underscored the need for a cohesive and integrated approach to effectively cope with the challenges posed by climate change.   Enhancing Resilience for the Future The primary focus of the weather forecasting review is to devise a robust strategy for enhancing the current system while considering future requirements and relevant climate change trends. With climate change-related weather events becoming more frequent, the government aims to fortify its forecasting capabilities. This will ensure a well-connected and integrated system that works in harmony with the understanding of flooding impacts on communities and national infrastructure. As a result, New Zealand will be better prepared to tackle weather challenges proactively.  

Collaboration of Critical Agencies

Minister Duncan Webb highlighted the significance of MetService Te Ratonga Tirorangi and NIWA Taihoro Nukurangi as crucial agencies in responding to weather events influenced by climate change. Acknowledging the indispensable role they play, he emphasized the need for a collaborative and connected weather forecasting system. This system should effectively incorporate climate science, forecasting, hydrology, and coastal hazard data. Such integration is essential for enabling effective planning and response measures during weather events, ensuring New Zealand's resilience against climate challenges.   Government-led Review Te Tai Ōhanga, the Treasury, and the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment Hikina Whakatutuki, will lead the comprehensive review, set to commence in September 2023. This joint effort aims to leverage expertise across government agencies to ensure a comprehensive and well-informed assessment of the existing weather forecasting system.  

Timeline and Expectations

The weather forecasting review is anticipated to produce a final report by February 2024, with the government eagerly awaiting the recommendations. The insights from this review will form a pivotal foundation to strengthen New Zealand's resilience against climate change impacts, empowering the nation to better prepare and equip itself to face weather challenges With this strategic move, the New Zealand government takes proactive measures to bolster the nation's ability to navigate the changing climate and safeguard the well-being of its communities and infrastructure. This took me around 61-61 hours over about four days. I followed a little too closely on the background, I think- I was a little scared to turn off the reference layer and cut loose, but I can always try that in the future.

I realized I now have sketched all 3 members of the surviving Varsiss family: Athenia (Fury), Sargon (Shadowknight), and Isella (Berserker)

As a pretty small child absolutely obsessed with fantasy role playing games and, lacking siblings to play with, I was pretty elated to be introduced the expansive universe of the MMORPG. As far as I was concerned, the genre included only one game, which was on the computer of my slightly older friend who lived far away and ignored content age restrictions. I was particularly enamored with the character option to play a humanoid rat person (with the humanoid cat person being a close second, if not tie), perhaps because of my affinity for the Redwall books. It was all my nerd child self wanted to do. But because my this friend lived far away and my mom didn’t want to buy media that she thought was too mature for my age, I only got to play the game a few times. I had a good imagination and spent years drawing and acting out my beloved humanoid rat character and biding my time until I could buy the game for myself. 

When I was twelve I begged for the game World of Warcraft, completely convinced that it was the same game and was subsequently highly confused that there was no rat humanoid character option. Dismayed, I told all of my friends and family about the game I had played as a small child but they were all convinced that I had completely dreamed up the rat people (and the cat people for that matter). I googled furiously to try to find this mysterious game of my youth but was foiled by the 2007 internet. It turned out that WoW wasn’t even old enough to be the game of my early childhood. I was devastated that no one believed me, but I had waited years at that point and I knew I would find it eventually.

Then, just yesterday, I was talking to someone about old school gaming and they mentioned that there was an MMO celebrating its twentieth anniversary. I could feel it in my bones. That game would have had to have come out when I was three. I felt this stirring in my heart, “I’m going to find my rat people at long last.” Indeed, it was the same game, EVERQUEST, which comes with a humanoid rat people character option called the Ratonga and humanoid cat people called Vah Shir.

So, over a DECADE after I bought WoW thinking it was the game of my childhood, almost TWENTY YEARS after I first played that game, after all this time, I just want to say that I am VINDICATED that the rat people (and the cat people, for that matter) do exist:
