MWW Artwork of the Day (11/10/23) Guy PĂšne du Bois (American, 1884-1958) At the Soda Fountain (c. 1930) Oil on canvas, 50.2 x 38.7 cm. The Boca Raton (LA) Museum of Art (Gift of Jane & Jay Braus)
American Realist painter Guy PĂšne du Boisâ main focus was on the fashion and "manners of his time" middle and upper-class of the early 1900s through the 1940s. His style was dominated by stylized figures. Even with three figures making up "At the Soda Fountain," there is a palpable feeling of detachment and visual tension, similar to the dramatic pause in a play or a movie. The soda fountain server is definitively isolated behind the bar and to the back; the women are engaged but standing awkwardly as one has her eyes closed as she brings her hand to the side of her face (Is she fixing her hat?) and the other gracefully bends slightly from the waist (To adjust her stockings or dress?) and looks directly into the otherâs closed eyes.

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science had scientifically accurate feathered velociraptors and the rapidity with which I grabbed it and yelled "mine!" should embarrass me, especially since I did it in front of my 14 year old nephew, but I have literally zero regrets. Look at this girl.
She was my co-pilot on the drive home and help me be brave on the Raton Pass, which I motherfucking hate driving.
#I keep wanting to call her biblically accurate and I know that's not right but it also makes me giggle#denver museum of nature and science#@denvermuseumns i didn't get to stay long on this visit but can't wait to come back

COLLAGE ON VIEW
Resonator-Reanimator
Sri Prabha at the Boca Raton Museum of Art in Boca Raton, Florida, USA through 22 October 2023. Sri Prabha created a site-specific multi-sensory installation that explores our connection to the natural world by commingling ideas from Vedic philosophy and science. Abstract patterned digital projections sweep the walls, covering paintings and sculptures to create constantly shifting organic forms. Paired with audio of monks chanting, the overall feel is that of preparing the mind for meditation. Within the mind frame of meditation, visitors will see references to both the smallest and greatest elements of our universe. MORE
