On the subject of thieving ratlings, this year's Boxing Day(?) mini finally answers the question we've all been asking.
No, the commissar does not know about second breakfast.
Nor does he know about the disappearances from the officers' mess.

Ratlings! I love these guys... I don't think they are gonna get used in games much though, which kinda sucks because they are some if my favorite models 🤷♀️

Avenel Kozec, imperial guard veteran from an abhuman assault regiment. The Inquisitor requisitioned a squad from his regiment to storm a genestealer fortification, and he was still standing when the job was done. He's often given jobs no one expects him to come back from, but he keeps completing objectives and making it home in one piece. Despite herself, the inquisitor has developed a fondness for the man's abilities.

Here are the next couple of guys from my Inquisitorial Kill Team. These guys are two ratlings from the Blackstone fortress set I will be using as a proxy to replace two of the Kasrkin ancillary support team.
The sniper ratling I'm using as the sharpshooter, and the other ratling represents the tracker, both the from the ancillary support unit for which I'm using Kasrkin.
The colour themes I've stuck with the browns and creams that I've used throughout the kill team. However, I've also added in some blues for the armor, which is also echoed in the other five members of the ancillary support team - I'll be posting some pics soon.
Again, really happy with how these guys came out and when they're with the full team they look really great!

Chilchuck is tucked in the back. I think he might be a ratling sniper? It's really just his head and a vague partial gun shape so I can't tell
I think if he’s a tech priest it justifies his interest in traps and devices and his initial feud with Senshi like i’m just imagining him seeing Senshi use a meltagun ammunition canister to power a grill and freaking out about the disrespect to the Machine Spirit

These guys have been sitting in my In Progress Box for weeks while I was struck with art-block. But now I've got 'em done!
Primaris Psyker (the old one, the new one is SUCH a downgrade. Second worst downgrade in the Guard, RIP to the Commissar):
An old metal Catachan meltagunner (very funny that the fact that Catachans can no longer take meltas in 10e means this guy will be doing his duty entirely in non-40k games), my most determined try yet at a model with so much skin showing:
And last but also least! Five of the old Ratling Snipers. I'm not gonna lie to y'all: normally I love the old metal models, but these guys are perhaps the ugliest models I've ever put paint on. I love 'em, surely, but hoo boy, their little faces are frightful:
Though tbh as irritating as their rules are in 10e 40k they probably SHOULD be difficult to look at. I'm looking forward to giving my opponents headaches with these five ugly little Hobbit-ass motherfuckers.

My personal list of possible new characters for Darktide:
Skitarii Vanguard
Ratling Sniper
Eldar Ranger (as funny as it is it depends on how much they want the inquisitor to be radical)
Sanctioned Daemonhost (same as above)
Squat
It's wishful thinking but as long as one gets in I'm happy
I think these would all be cool. I'd also add a Sororitas of some sort, personally. Because them ladies are cool.
Now we just need to wait for FS to finish the damned game first. In two years. Then we get to see how much they'll be charging for new careers.

With WarCom down hard, it's a good thing that the big reveals from today's Warhammer Day preview have been cross-posted to other more reliable social media platforms.
Kill Team has been a great vehicle for getting out updates to kits that might not otherwise fit in with the release schedule, or for which the use case is just a little too niche to really drive sales.
Specialist units like tankbustas and ratling snipers aren't so in-demand that they'd really blow the doors off as a standalone release, but they're both in dire need of an update and Kill Team is a great excuse to give them one.
That said, what an update! They both look great, but the ratlings are especially standout for the depth of character. Though they are among the least of the abhumans, their models really pop. Curious to see how they look alongside their Blackstone Fortress counterparts.

Ratling Sniper
On a side note does anyone know of any 40k literature that deals with ratlings?
Feel free to leave a like at my other pages as well.

A few thoughts on Old Bale Eye
So I watched the first episode of Hammer and Bolter on Warhammer Community. It’s still free for a few hours so I highly recommend if your a Warhammer fan to check it out. Review/overall impressions below.
First and foremost I didn’t realize Hammer and Bolter was an anthology of different Warhammer stories. I had the impression going in that it was a show about Commissar Yarrick vs Ghazghkull. I missed that the entire show is about a bunch of self contained stories. This on it’s own is fine, but there is a chance that for some players you may never get the army representation you want to hear about.
A good portion of the characters animated in the show are very specifically based on miniatures for sale by Games Workshop so this show is going to be a bunch of GI Joe ads hyping up their toys. Credit where it’s due, Ghaz is using his old armor design because it takes place before he get’s a new body.
(Damn, Makari is jacked lol)
Ghaz also has his own unique battle wagon in the show that seems like a design mix of his old 2nd edition model and the new battlewagon.
Also (and I missed this on my first watch) the Goff rockers make an appearance in the background! Like, there’s a lot of small references that I really appreciate as an Ork player. There’s an Old Banner from second edition. The Runtherd that’s telling the story has a hair squig and it legit blinks and looks around while the Runtherd is talking in one scene. If you play Imperial Guard please let me know if they got the same treatment as the Orks in terms of references and good army representation. I know they primarily used Armageddon Steel Legion and I saw some Ratling snipers, but I wasn’t sure if there were any references that are things only a Guard player might notice. If the factions are getting this kind of love in each episode then the show overall is very promising.
Now for the bad. This show is definitely on a budget. A good portion of the animation are tweens (sliding and spinning shapes) and using After Effects to shake the camera rather than animate large scenes. None of the Stompas or Gorka/Morkanauts move, they just shake the camera and make rumbling noises. There’s like two scenes where people actually fight, and it’s basically one swing and it’s over. Any other fight scenes are repeating animated loops of a weapon firing. Space Marines have one scene and were the most animated in the 5 seconds of screen time they had, but also notably using 3D models rather than 2D animations. Ghaz also has a 3D model, so it seems like everyone with some sort of power armor gets the 3D model treatment. I get it, it’s easier to animate and saves time and budget, but it is jarring. In addition to the animation, in the beginning of the show there’s a stock chomping sound that they use for a squig biting something. As a whole, the entire episode makes me worried about how much time and money GW bothered to invest in their animations and Warhammer+ in general. These last few years have been crazy profitable for them so it would be rather depressing if this is the highest level of animation they are able to afford. If this came out 10 years ago then this would be much more impressive.
Overall, I liked the episode and I’m glad Warhammer is getting animations, but this hasn’t convinced me to subscribe to Warhammer+. I don’t need another streaming service. I would rather buy the individual episodes I want to watch and just own them. Like this one! What if this is the only animated Ork content Warhammer+ gets for a whole year? What if there’s only a handful of Xenos army content and a surplus of Space Marine shows?
Also, as a reminder/warning. A year ago, GW sold a subscription app for Warhammer 40k to go along with 9th edition. When the app went live, it just linked to a Warhammer Community page with all the public rules already available for everyone. They had to give all the early subscribers free months because GW sold a non-working product. This app is still janky and notably leaked all the 9th edition Ork rules a few weeks ago. Why should I trust GW with their own streaming platform? If anyone is on the fence about Warhammer+ I think at the very least you should wait and make sure the service even works before buying.

The rumor engine article calls the rocket at the end a bottle. A while back there was also a rumor engine of a Turkey.
A standing theory for the Turkey picture was they were making Ratlings. Since the bottle rifle has a sniper bipod I think this is also Ratlings. Either a new model with alternate wargear options, or it a special edition model for the holidays.
Some have pointed out the grip is similar to the Leagues of Votann standard Grip, with a divider between the trigger finger and the rest of the hand.
This trend is followed with some of the Ironhead units from Necromunda.
...
I think this might be a new Kyn unit, representing the "Squats" who live among the Imperium but still have contact with the Leagues. Perhaps the fabled "Foot Pioneer" unit? Or the two-as-one?
