Deathbeds - ratiorine drabble
Song Fic - Bring Me The Horizon: Deathbeds
The words hit Veritas' heart like a hundred shards of ever-frozen ice. This was the plan, he had to remind himself. He told you to do this. He doesn't mean it.
"Ratio, you wretch."
And yet, somehow the hurt in Aventurine's colorful eyes were truthful. Genuine. So fucking honest that Veritas had to look away and fix his gaze on a ridiculously empty bookshelf in Sunday's room.
Aventurine... Veritas clenched his fists. He really didn't like the way Sunday talked down on the IPC ambassador. Demeaning, disrespectful. Sunday talked to Aventurine like he would talk to a disgusting amalgamation of cells, and it made Veritas want to tear the wings off Sunday's head.
The irony-- a symbol of good on an evil control freak.
His chest weighed heavier with every moment that passed, with every obviously badly-crafted bluff Aventurine grits out. Veritas wished he could reach out and take Aventurine's shaking hands. Hold them in Veritas' slightly larger ones, shield Aventurine like he always shielded everyone else but himself.
Why, dear gambler? Please, stay. For once, please just stay.
Veritas never thought he could become enamored or interested by anything other than knowledge and spreading it, but he could then start listing the things that made his heart pound and his stomach flip embarrassingly.
Deft fingers toying with a poker chip. Plump lips curling into devious lipcurls. Soft blonde hair. Purple and cyan eyes framed flatteringly by long lashes. Aventurine, basically.
And on my deathbed, all I'll see is you.
Aventurine had told him of his goal-- and that he will have almost zero chances of making it back alive. Veritas had let his demeanor slip, dropping the teacup Aventurine had served him some tea in.
His dearest gambler just smiled sadly. The life may leave my lungs, but my heart will stay with you. Aventurine then slowly leaned forward to press their lips together.
The waves will pull us under. "Please don't beg me to reconsider, Doctor." Aventurine pleaded as Veritas responded to the kiss, hands shaking as they clutched for dear life onto Veritas' shirt. "Because I might actually... I can't, Veritas. Please."
Don't try to fight the storm, you'll tumble overboard. Veritas didn't respond, though maybe he should have. Maybe he should have gotten down on his knees, begged for Aventurine to just... run. Run with him. Fuck the IPC, they'll figure it out.
But the mission held something more personal for Aventurine, hence why he went all-in. This was more than just Veritas' feelings for Aventurine. He had no right to fight for Aventurine in this story.
Looking back, maybe Aventurine wanted Veritas to fight. Ratio, you wretch. Maybe Aventurine wanted him to try, to hold onto his hand and drag him away from the gamble for his life. Maybe.
And as Veritas handed him his Doctor's Note, he noted Aventurine's hands shaked even more than usual. The light on his colorful irises dimmed.
Do stay alive. Please stay alive.
He didn't know if Aventurine read or will ever get to read the note. All Veritas could do was hide his hurt and watch Aventurine's figure slowly become smaller.
And as he watched the light on the aventurine stone in the IPC go out, Veritas had to hold on the table in front of him. Gripped it too tightly that it dented. His eyes felt hot and his vision blurred. He wanted to turn his head and be greeted by a smug smile, a green jacket and the smell of expensive perfume and whiskey.
That little kiss you stole, it hurt my heart and soul-- and like a deer in the headlights, I meet my fate.
Aventurine ventured into the Nihility, and he took Veritas' heart with him.
Veritas didn't know if it was possible for a person to live while missing half of their heart and soul, but he will try. Tides will bring me back to you. One way or the other, he will meet Aventurine again.
In life or in Nihility, it will depend on his dearest gambler's luck.

hybrid cat!ratio but aventurine isn't aware how feline like he is, until a sleep deprived ratio sits beside him on the couch and rests his head on his shoulder. and purs. aventurine freezes, soft rumbling of veritas' chest soothing him, and then, if purring wasn't enough, the long purple tail curls up in his lap. aventurine wants to jump out of his skin- cuddly veritas? doctor veritas ratio purring, seeking touch? kakavasha is losing his shit by the second.
meanwhile ratio is running on three hours of sleep for a stupid reason, and he simply embraces aventurine, cuddling closer wanting more of this comfort.
the last straw is ratio nuzzling his face into the blond's neck. rubbing his cheeks, nose against the soft skin. the furry ears brushing past his jaw. purring getting louder.
aventurine is a mess, he loves it of course, nonetheless he is caught off guard. he attempts at one of his one liners, to feel out the atmosphere, "do you... also meow?" he ends up sounding like a teenage boy stuttering in front of his crush.
shivers go down his spine when ratio speaks lowly against his ear in a husky voice, "would you like to hear it?"

The Price of Gift Giving
There are many things Aventurine can pride himself in. He has no shortage of talents that have gotten him as far as he has. However there are still a few things that he cannot wrap his head around. When it comes to love and showing his affection, Aventurine fumbles more often than not, even with his heightened emotional intelligence.
Now, he isn't sure what exactly he had done this time around, but his beloved Doctor seems to be frustrated with him. So here he is standing in one of the most luxury malls in all of Pier Point trying to pick out the best gift as an apology. He knows Ratio isn't big on material luxuries but as Aventurine eye's a beautiful fountain pen, he can't help but throw his card down. He pays extra to have it engraved with an owl face -the same one that adorns Ratio's shoulder- and a quaint but sweet quote, "For my Beloved Veritas". Aventurine feels confidence flow through his veins as he becomes a couple hundred thousand credits lighter. The pen is packaged nicely, the engraving hidden from view so he can surprise his boyfriend even more.
When he returns home, Aventurine can here Ratio in their shared study grumbling to himself as he no doubt marks another students paper as inadequate. Aventurine braves a smile as he tucks the small gift into his coat pocket and quietly enters the study.
"I'm home~. I see you're still working hard. Do you have time for a short break?"
Ratio sighs, sparing Aventurine a quick glance before his eyes setting back on the stack of papers .
"Unfortunately I'm on a tight deadline. I did mention to you earlier that I'd most likely will be busy all day." Ratio's voice held clear annoyance, but that's fine. Aventurine's smile faulters for only a second.
"Yes I remember you saying that. Sorry, I just don't like seeing you over work yourself."
Ratio only hums in acknowledgement as red ink fills another paper.
If Aventurine just stands here any longer he's sure to be kicked out, so to not waste anymore time he fumbles to get his gift out of his pocket.
"I have something for you." He places the box neatly on the desk, and Ratio pauses to look at it. It's not hard to guess its price, the name of the store was printed clearly on the lid. Aventurine can feel the annoyance radiating off of Ratio as he narrows his eyes at the package.
"Aventurine," said mans smile drops; Ratio never calls him that at home. "While the thought is appreciated, we've talked about your frivolous amount of gifts before. No matter how deep your pockets are, always spending isn't a good lifestyle. Honestly, is drowning me in expensive products the only thing you can do?"
It shouldn't hurt because Ratio is right; they have talked about Aventurine's unhealthy spending habits. Still, he had no issue buying anything that he thought Ratio may like. And that's what made his confidence crumble. His eyes stung and his voice was stuck in his throat. Ratio was looking at him, almost expectantly, but Aventurine couldn't form any words.
Instead he turned around, silently leaving the room. It felt humiliating standing there under his boyfriend's scrutinizing gaze. Maybe he deserved it for being inconsiderate of Ratio's thoughts on luxury goods. That was the only rational conclusion he could come up with.
~*~ When Ratio had finally emerged from the study, it was well into the evening. Aventurine could hear him in the kitchen getting himself his share of dinner Aventurine somehow managed to put together just a hour prior. He had the catcakes to thank for pushing him to get food in him. The last few hours he had just been curled up under a blanket on the couch while the snacks meowed at him sympathetically.
Eventually the noise in the kitchen died down, and was replaced with the couch dipping under Ratio's weight. Aventurine didn't move from his place under the blanket.
"Vasha," a hand fell onto Aventurine's shoulder; and maybe he's just a little too weak because a second later he wrapped himself tightly around his boyfriend. "I would like to apologize, my love. I shouldn't have been so insensitive to your gift."
Aventurine closed his eyes, letting his head fall against Ratio's chest.
"I just wanted to make you happy. I know you've been overworked lately...and I know I can't help with that kind of work. I know I said I'd work on my spending. So I guess I'm sorry too."
Fingers thread through his hair and a kiss is placed on his head.
"Change doesn't happen overnight, and I shouldn't have taken my frustration out on you. You are far more valuable than any gift, Kakavasha."
Ratio shifts and pulls the giftbox from his pocket. It was still unopened, but Ratio swiftly untied the bow around it and removed the lid. He picked up the pen, admiring the pretty swirl of blue and white along its body and it's gold accents. His thumb ran over the engraving and Aventurine feels a smile against his temple.
"It is quite a lovely pen. Thank you, Vasha. I will treasure it always."

Before Aventurine, it was safe to say that Ratio’s life was not as hectic. He did as he pleased, whether it was working on his current research or simply reading in the bath— his routine revolved around no other than himself.
Now, things were different and out of routine. Ratio was not one who really appreciated being out of routine, so it was safe to say that it was an adjustment. He had gotten used to it being just himself in his apartment, now there was a whole other person; half of his wardrobe was now designated to his lover’s rather colorful attire. Aventurine knew no boundaries either, the blonde was far too quick to criticize his taste in clothes once he had moved in and replaced them with outfits that were “more fitting for a doctor”. Whatever that meant.
Aventurine tested his patience as well— oh, how he loved to test his patience. Whether it was messing with his slides which his students were quick to take notice of. Luckily they all respected (or feared) him enough to not linger on the jokes, however, it didn’t make it any less annoying. Once Aventurine even changed his laptop background to a picture of the two which Ratio hadn’t noticed until he projected his screen for his students to see— it was a decent picture at most, the two comfortable on their couch, Ratio was reading a book while Aventurine leaned against him and took a picture. He rather liked the picture. But it wasn’t for his students' eyes to see!
No matter how many times Ratio warned him to not call or text him during class, Aventurine always did the opposite, insisting that he missed his boyfriend and was eagerly awaiting his return. Ratio wasn’t sure if he was serious or simply just choosing to annoy him by doing exactly what he told him not to. But, whenever Ratio would come home, he would find Aventurine meeting him at the front door, greeting him with a kiss and a “welcome home, Veritas.”
Before Ratio would be met with a hauntingly quiet apartment. Now, there was a whole person awaiting his arrival and asking about his day. Ratio was one who appreciated a nice soak in the bath after work— Aventurine always had one ready for him. “I got some new bath salts that I think you might like. Let me know what you think!” A simple bubble bath was sufficient, but Ratio could not deny that he rather enjoyed the extra little additions… and he appreciated having a companion to enjoy a bath with.
They would rest against each other, not many words spoken as they quietly soaked in the warm water. Every so often Aventurine would ask about Ratio’s day, or what he wished to do in the evening. Afterwards, they would help each other dry off— not that Ratio required the assistance but Aventurine always insisted that they help each other.
After a bath and dinner, Ratio would always require some time to catch up on his research or grade his student’s assignments. That was usually when he would get some alone time in his office while Aventurine caught up with his own work. His office still remained his space, but sometimes he would find little surprises whenever he would walk in.
“Where did these flowers come from?”
Aventurine peered through the door to see Ratio adjusting the vase of assorted flowers on his desk. “I picked some up for you this afternoon. I figured your office could use a little splash of color. Do you like them?”
“Well… they certainly aren’t atrocious,” no one had ever gotten him flowers before— no one ever really cared enough to think about the little things until this gambler weaseled his way into his life.
“Geez, I’m glad you like them,” Aventurine chuckled and turned around to return back to his work, only to be stopped by Ratio who pulled him back and gave him a quick kiss on his forehead.
“Thank you. I appreciate the thought,” a simple statement made the blonde light up, but it was the least he could do to express his gratitude— because no one ever cared to this extent. No one ever cared to check up on him at work. No one ever cared to stay awake and wait for him to join them in bed. No one ever cared for simply wanting to be with him.
Before Aventurine, it was safe to say that Ratio’s life was not as hectic. But without a doubt, Aventurine brought colors into his life, colors he never knew existed until now.

I’d like to think that when Aventurine can’t sleep, he likes to go look at the night sky. Sometimes he’s out there for hours, just thinking. At first, Ratio didn’t know where he was going. Now, he goes out there too, wraps his arms around Aventurine’s waist, and wipes his tears.
Aventurine likes to make some snide remark about how Ratio is going to miss out on sleep and that it’ll affect his genius. As tired as he is, Ratio tells him that being under the stars with him is better than sleep.

Songbird [Drabble]
Ship: Dr Ratio/Aventurine (レイチュリ)
Premise: Dr Ratio and Aventurine have been cohabiting after the events of Penacony. The arrangment brings many delightful discoveries; including that Aventurine likes singing to himself while doing chores.
[Aventurine sings to himself. Ratio can't help but to join him.]
🛁🎲
His morning goes like this:
He wakes to the opal sky, as the sun draws its golden chariot across the clouds. From outside, the birds song reaches him faintly, and the whir of civilization slowly stirs; machinery, vehicles, people, all coming to life as he is. His mind awakens first, even as his eyes stay heavy and closed, bursting with plans and reminders of the day ahead: he has to brush his teeth, fix his hair, do his morning workout, get started on breakfast, feed the cat cakes, grade papers, and then...
And then he opens his eyes, turns, and then he wastes the morning staring at the way Aventurine's hair flows and spills over the sheets like a golden waterfall; all soft curls and precious locks. He's nestled in Veritas' arms and stretched luxuriously in the warmth of their home like a spoiled pet. His resting face peers over the blankets, while the rest of him is covered - leaving only suggestions of subtle curves and warm flesh.
The cats awaken and begin scratching at the door. The sun has finished its descent, and it slowly pours in through the windows. Then, finally, Aventurine makes a soft little noise, opening his eyes. Blinking once, twice. He leans into Ratio's touch, then yawns. Veritas watches, appreciatively, as Aventurine rises from the sheets. The blankets pool around his waist and thighs. He looks like Aphrodite emerging from the sea; the birth of beauty itself.
"See something you like?"
The noise strangled out of his throat was a mix of a cough and a scoff.
"Nonsense."
"Mmm... so mean, won't you indulge me a little?"
He sits on his thighs and stretches his arms above his head. Ratio notes the new softness padding his belly. A sign of good health and recovery, one part of him says. The other half says something along the lines of that will feel nice in my hands before he violently cuts it off.
"Any more indulgence and not a single productive thing will be done today, Gambler."
Aventurine laughs. His voice is as clear as water running over a spring.
"Ooh, so scary! Don't threaten me with a good time, I know all sorts of indulgences that could keep us preoccupied, doctor~"
"You-!"
Aventurine pecks his cheek loudly, before wiggling out of the sheets and making a run for the kitchen, his giggles echoing behind him.
Ratio holds his head in his hands for a while, trying to will away any strange urges; violent or otherwise.
After a while, a waft of eggs and coffee fills the air. Ratio quickly goes through his morning routine, and by the time he's done, Aventurine is still preparing the food. As usual, he's prepared Ratio's portion first - a much bigger plate packed with scrambled eggs, toast, and a salad consisting of lettuce, tomatoes, and the leftover dressing that they've kept in the fridge. A cup of coffee's already there - sweetened with just a bit of stevia, just the way Ratio prefers it.
Aventurine is a surprisingly competent cook. Sure, he needs to pull up a recipe from his phone, but needing a bit of guidance doesn't detract from one's excellence. Having the freedom to cook what he wants also seems to improve his appetite, something Ratio is pleased to see.
He takes just a brief moment of appreciation; to appreciate the breakfast spread, of course, and certainly not the way that apron is tied perfectly around that slim waist, before he takes out the fruit and seeds from the fridge. Cat cakes, while sharing the name of domestic cats, do not have the same diet as them. Ratio calls out for them, and soon enough, three little cat cakes meow and sprint towards him with all the power in their tiny little paws.
"Make a wish into the well..."
"That's all you have to do..."
"And if you hear it echoing, your wish will soon come true..."
Ratio feels his breath come short.
This, too, is something he's used to Aventurine doing. But he's not really used to it yet.
Aventurine loves music. Sometimes Ratio watches him as he sways to some soft tune known only to himself, dancing barefoot in their living room. He likes singing to his plants, because even after everything, Aventurine still had so much love to give, and taking care of his 'babies' made him so very happy. He likes to strum his guitar and come up with songs about anything or nothing at all. Once, Ratio caught him singing sweet silly nonsense to their cats, which he recorded and uses as leverage against the gambler whenever he could.
This was a boy made for laughter, song, and dance. Ratio wants to rage at the world for all that's been done to him.
"I'm wishing,"
"For the one I love."
"To find me -"
"Today!"
His voice is so lovely. There has never been a sweeter thing.
"I'm hoping,"
"And I'm dreaming of -"
"The nice things..."
"He'll say!"
Aventurine hums under his breath. Pretty little 'la la la la la's fluttering like bird wings. Quietly, Veritas walks to him, until his hands find his waist and Aventurine's body is plush against his own. He rests his chin on Aventurine's head, and can't help but to echo his song bird's melody.
"Im wishing, "
"... Im wishing..."
"For the one I love -"
"To find me -"
"To find me,"
"Today..."
"Today."
Sorry this is so self indulgent.
The song is I'm Wishing" from Snow White
I think both Ratio and Aventurine are amazing singers. Just imagine the soft duets they could do.
Also yes they deserve to be soft so. They are soft. And married. (They just dont realise it yet.)

CSM AVENTIO AU short snippet
"Doctor," Aventurine says, as they stand there on their apartment balcony together. "What is your opinions on humans?"
"Where is this coming from?" Ratio scoffs, leaning on the railings. His irises widen, almost like a cat's, adjusting to the dark. His horns peak slightly out of his hair. He yawns, and with the light that Aventurine's lighter casts on their balcony, he can catch the way Ratio's fangs glint.
"Curiosity," Aventurine replies, and pulls out his next cigarette, placing it in front of the awaiting flame. It comes to life immediately, and he inhales it, then exhales, watching the smoke from his cigarette fade away into the dying night's sky.
"If you wish to know what I have already stated multiple times," Ratio says, "I think most humans are mediocre. They do not think for themselves. Their critical thinking skills.. gone." He glances at Aventurine's cigarettes. "Stop smoking. It'll kill you, eventually."
"Ah-ah-ah," Aventurine laughs, tilting his head back when he does. He then takes another drag. "That's the point, Doc."
"You are destroying yourself," Ratio observes, his gaze analytical.
The devil hunter grins.
The fiend stares back.
"Of course I'm destroying myself," he says. "It's a key human trait."
"I take back my observation from earlier," Ratio says instead, perfectly impassive, and yet, Aventurine can see the way his teeth grind together in the dim lighting. "Most humans are mediocre, but you are a self-sacrificial idiot."
"You've got me all figured out, don't you?" Aventurine asks with a wide, wide smile. It feels fake. It's like molten plastic on his face.
"No," Ratio replies. "I will figure you out, though."
"Good luck, fiend." It feels like a challenge. This is Aventurine's bet. He is a man of good luck - his contract to the Devil of Fortune deems it so, after all. He's been doomed since he was born, a lucky, lucky child despite the fact that Misfortune was brought to everyone around him.
Ratio will be the next to fall.
He doesn't seem bothered, though.
He grins back, all sharp teeth and inhuman eyes.
"In the pursuit of knowledge," the fiend of knowledge says, "I thank you for your luck. I won't need it."
Aventurine had known that this fiend - the fiend of knoweldge, the representation of human's fear of knowledge - would be interesting. In the way that he seemed to 'propagate' his own fear by teaching others, from the way that he enjoyed giving his knowledge to others, studying things - he was much more different then what Aventurine had in mind when it had been announced that the fiend of knowledge wanted to work with Public Safety.
However, for some reason, he was also... the perfect embodiment of knowledge. He knew too much. Inspired fear with the way he stared at people.
But not Aventurine.
Aventurine was never afraid of knowledge.
It seems that Dr. Ratio isn't afraid of misfortune, either. Maybe he believes that his knowledge will allow him to navigate the situation.
However the dice rolls..
It will be interesting.
"Here's to our new partnership," the gambler says, instead, holding up another cigarette for the fiend.
Doctor Ratio rolls his eyes, and pushes Aventurine's cigarette back towards him. His hands are warm. Almost... human.
"Keep your cigarette, gambler," he says. "I'm not intent on destroying myself in my own pursuit for knowledge, or the future. I also won't bet everything when I'm trying to achieve my goals." And then, without another word, he leaves the balcony, door sliding shut behind him as he pads back into the apartment.
Aventurine stands out there, in the cold, smoke tumbling from his lit cigarette, and the unlit one still in his other hand.
This will be interesting.

Heart's Wager
characters: Dr. Ratio x Aventurine
tags: accidental confession, fluff, short drabble✨
“So yeah, what if I do love you? That doesn't make me a fool.” Veritas blurted out, unable to contain himself during their usual bickering.
Aventurine with his perpetual smile, suddenly froze. “Yeah, certainly not a fool move to love me—” He stopped mid-sentence, realizing the weight of Veritas's words. Both stood stunned, looking away from each other on the sidewalk of the local park.
“... I truly do mean it, gambler- no, Aventurine.” Veritas said, deciding to lay bare his feelings with his characteristic bluntness.
“B-but I—I'm… I…" Aventurine stammered, his mind racing with unresolved trust issues from past traumas.
“I know…" Veritas interjected, his voice sharper yet controlled. “I know we bicker all the time. I know my words aren't as romantic as others. I'm painfully self-aware of my inability to express myself in the usual ways.” He frowned, trying to convey his sincerity.
“I genuinely love you, for who you are. I will give you everything. Let me love you properly and tenderly.” Veritas's voice softened, but his determination was evident.
Aventurine, still hiding his face with his hand, wrestled with his thoughts. What if he got hurt again? What if Veritas discarded him once the novelty wore off?
“Communication, comprehension, compromise, and commitment. I'm willing to love and reassure you with these all.” Veritas said, stepping closer with a mixture of his usual elegance and directness.
“Communication is essential for conveying ideas and perspectives. Comprehension allows us to understand each other’s views and thoughts, facilitating conflict resolution. Compromise means accommodating each other’s viewpoints in a healthy manner. And commitment… it builds trust and respect, deepening our connection and fostering growth.” Veritas spoke as if delivering a carefully reasoned thesis, gently taking Aventurine's hand.
“Veritas… that's…” Aventurine began, but words failed him.
“Please, allow me to love you. Gamble on me. But this time, I assure you, it's a 100% win rate.” Veritas declared, his sharp tongue softened by the earnest plea in his eyes.
Aventurine looked up, his constant smile now tinged with uncertainty but also with a flicker of hope. He took a deep breath, the usual mask of frivolity giving way to something more genuine. “Alright, Veritas. Let's take this risk together.”
Veritas's usually composed demeanor cracked slightly, showing a rare vulnerability. “Thank you, I promise you won't regret it.”
Aventurine finally let out a soft chuckle, shaking his head. “You really are something, Veritas. Always so sure of yourself.”
“Only when it comes to things I believe in deeply.” Veritas replied, his voice steady. “...and you're worth it, Aventurine.” he added, taking Aventurine's hand as they walked on, side by side, ready to face whatever came next—together.

By the fire pt1 (maybe)
“I’m cold” Aventurine wrapped himself tighter in the blanket as he talked to himself. He had no one else to talk to, after all. “Sit in front of the fire, then.” Veritas Ratio. The astound and very important Doctor from the intelligentsia guild, sharing a room with the gambler and IPC lackey, who would’ve thought.
Aventurine chuckled as he felt his breath stifle yet again. It happened any time he was near Veritas, yet he didn’t really understand why. “….why…Don’t you sit next to me…?” Aventurine said between stiff and nervous breaths.
Veritas scoffed and went back to reading his book, and Aventurine turned back to the slowly dying flames of the fire. As he slowly dozed into a half deep half light sleep, he felt his weight being shifted. “Mhmm…Veritas…what are you-“
Suddenly he felt Veritas press his lips against his own. It was a soft sort of kiss, although it did feel a slight forced and demanding. Aventurine let a gasp when their lips parted “Wha….What was that for?”
“For you” Veritas ghosted his hands against Aventurine’s cheek, as he gazed into his eyes.
“Are you still cold?”
“Yes”
“Come here”
And onto Veritas’s lap Aventurine went, snuggled tightly up against Veritas’s chest. “This is warmer. Stay like this?” Veritas nodded, pressing a soft but firm kiss onto his forehead. Aventurine began to doze off, feeling quite content with his current position.
Veritas too, felt quite happy about his current situation, finding it to be quite comfortable.
“Silly gambler…” He said with the most of affection
“Stupid doctor…” Aventurine retorted drowsily as he nuzzled his head into Veritas’s chest again.
Penacony truly is a magical place.

Ebb (ratiorine drabble)
For the prompt: "Do you hate me yet?" from the Ratiorine 18+ discord server.
Rated T, 100 word drabble.
Aventurine's lifespan is shorter than Ratio's. This does not stop the doctor.
Read it here on Ao3 or under the Keep Reading
Across the universe, sometimes long-lived species will be reluctant to engage with shorter-lived ones. Veritas Ratio, whose lifespan is a century or two, whose body remained youthful and strong as his most beloved one gained grey hair and aching bones, understands the reasoning behind said reluctance. He understands it, but does not, will not, abide by it. How could he? For even now - after half a century of companionship and devotion - Aventurine will still ask, eyes darkened with trauma: “Do you hate me yet?” Veritas kisses hands wrinkled with age, gathers Aventurine closer to him. “I could never hate you.”

Aventurine x gn!reader
warnings: none
word count: under 300
a/n: not beta read, why is a hazbin hotel song such a jam?
description: he leaves you for a man
you two were happy. or at least that's what you thought. your boyfriend on the other hand started forcing his smiles, behaving indifferently and disinterested in anything relating to spending time with you. when you sit down and express your concerns and your wishes to fix it.. well... you don't get good news.
“look I don't... I am unsure of what it is. we are good, I.. just... there's something.. I am missing something, us, it, just-“ you feel worried, he doesn't even say he is happy with you. why is this happening? what changed? you stay silent trying to hear him out.
“... it feels empty, something isn't there, I- this just doesn't feel right” those words come out much harsher to your ears than how he said them.
one thing leads to another and you two break up in a calm way with a clean cut.
truly not even 24 hours pass, you see him in a bar chatting along with Ratio, and dear gods it is obvious. the way he is smiling, laughing, being genuine, and seems like he is enjoying himself.
that is how you met him, with the doctor beside him. and you thought you were the one making him so joyful. you can't help but pity him because he didn't realise yet, that he is profoundly and utterly in love with that man.
of course this, you too, felt wrong and hollow, you aren't the one that fits him like a puzzle piece, the one who matches him and his needs.
you would never be who he wants.
// part 2 an anon asked for (it's like 100 words)

oh hello there. fancy seeing you here ;) god help me im so bad at this
Okay but for real though, I'm still blinking at this because we've officially reached (and transcended because I'm late) 2,000 FOLLOWERS !!!!! I'm honestly still in shock because I'm still recovering from 1k ..... I can't thank you all enough for the love and support you've given me and my silly writings, I can't believe my silly little blog has gotten this far sniffles
SO. for the event because i am NOT letting you all go empty handed. We are not doing a prompt drabble thing because I learned my lesson from the last event but WHAT WE ARE DOING. is like. this weird Q&A but like not. okay wait i'll explain it's kind of confusing but !!!
TLDR : I want to get to know you guys better (and you guys to know me better !!!), so I'll be doing an ask game! You can ask me about myself, my opinions on characters, and my headcanons on them as well !! It'll be more casual because that's easier for me (so it'll be me talking rather than my writing voice yall know), but I want this to be really fun for all of us :D
duration for asks: 3/19 - 3/26
rules
ABSOLUTELY NO NSFW. I am here to be silly not horny.
Don't ask me anything too personal or invasive, if you do I'll delete the ask altogether.
Don't ask for romantic headcanons for minor characters, arlan, or welt.
Be respectful, please !!! I just want to have fun guys :(
You can ask me things other than what's on the prompt lists, just as long as it isn't inappropriate.
Don't ask me on my opinions of ships, especially ratiorine (I mean this in the nicest way possible I just don't like that ship).
For my opinions on characters, you can ask about characters outside of HSR (as long as I know them), but for character hcs, keep it to HSR.
ask prompts - author !!!

Do you have any pets?
What's your typical order at a cafe?
Do you prefer coffee or tea?
If you had to pick one character from ___ as your favorite, who would it be?
What's the last song you listened to?
Who's your favorite song artist?
Who was your first fictional crush?
What was the first fic you've written online?

What are your general hcs about them?
What do you think their love language is?
On a scale of 1-10, how healthy are they in a relationship?
What's an unpopular opinion you have? (can be on a character or a fandom!!)

I wrote a ratiorine fic! I haven't written a fic in ages so please be kind.
Also I linked the wrong drabble at the end and didn't realise my mistake until 30 mins after posting. So there are like 8 people who probably didn't see the proper ending because I'm a fool. Sorry about that 🥹
