Pakistan Super League Severely Hit, Several Overseas Stars Pull Out Ahead Of New Season
Several high-profile international cricketers have pulled out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) due to the overlapping of dates with other franchise-based tournaments and many cricket boards denying permission to their players to compete in domestic T20 competitions. The PSL begins in Lahore on February 17 and all the six franchises have been hit hard with several players opting for the Bangladesh Premier League, ILT20 and SA20 leagues.
Tumblr media
PSL side Multan Sultans have lost several players they had initially signed up for the upcoming season, with England pace bowler Reece Topley being the latest to pull out due to an injury.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) also said it had not issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) to Topley to play in the PSL.
Some other boards are also having second thoughts about giving no-objection certificates for PSL.
Multan will also be without Pakistan fast bowler Ehsanullah, who has failed to recover from an elbow surgery he suffered last year after the PSL.
Peshawar Zalmi have also lost a big name in Lungi Ngidi of South Africa, while Quetta Gladiators will be without Sri Lanka's Wanandu Hasaranga.
West Indies cricketers Shai Hope, Matthew Forde and Akeal Hosein, South Africa's Tabraiz Shamshi and Rassie van Der Dussen, England's James Vince and Afghanistan's Noor Ahmed and Naveen ul Haq, among others, will also skip the entire tournament.
A PSL franchise owner has asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to revisit the tournament window, as it is not possible to get big players when three leagues are happening on after the other.
"The SA20 ended recently and the ILT20 concludes on the day the PSL begins, so it is getting difficult to sign big players now," he said on condition of anonymity.
He also pointed out that January-February is a busy season for international cricket series. Sri Lanka are playing a series against Afghanistan, South Africa are in the middle of a two-Test series against New Zealand while West Indies are playing a series against Australia.
"There is an acute need to change the PSL window, else it will lose its charm if we don't get big overseas names," he added.

This Is Bit Of A Kick In The Teeth : Ian Smith Slams SA Sending Weak Test Team To NZ
Tumblr media
Former New Zealand: Former New Zealand cricketer Ian Smith has slammed Cricket South Africa (CSA) for naming a weak Test team for the upcoming two-match tour of New Zealand in February, saying it is a ‘bit of a kick in the teeth’ moment. South Africa recently named a 14-man squad for the New Zealand Test tour, to be captained by opener Neil Brand, who is amongst the seven uncapped players in the team. Capped Test players in the squad will be batters David Bedingham, Zubayr Hamza and Keegan Petersen, currently playing in the series against India. Other capped players on tour of New Zealand include batter Khaya Zondo, fast-bowling pair of Duanne Olivier and Dane Paterson, and spinner Dane Piedt. Cricket South Africa (CSA) has chosen to field a weakened Test squad due to the series clashing with the second season of SA20 league at home. “We (New Zealand) have such a proud record in sport in South Africa. Mainly through the rugby, All Blacks (and) Springboks is one of the great rivals. We’ve always got great respect for South African sporting people. So, this is a bit of a kick in the teeth, to be perfectly honest, for us anyway at this time,” said Smith on SEN Radio. Frontline Test players like Temba Bavuma, Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton, Heinrich Klaasen, Rassie van der Dussen, Wiaan Mulder, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen, Anrich Nortje, Gerald Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj, Tony de Zorzi, Nandre Burger and Simon Harmer will play in the SA20, as they are obliged to play in the league at home instead of being on national duties. Amidst heavy criticism over the move, CSA Board said it is a one-off instance for the Test team being depleted on tour of New Zealand due to the scheduling conflicts between the series and second edition of SA20. "The Board of Cricket South Africa (CSA) notes the concerns about the composition of the Test squad that will be travelling to New Zealand later this month. We reassure the fans that CSA has the utmost respect for the Test format as the pinnacle of the game we love. “The dates for this tour were set when the Future Tours Programme (FTP) for 2023-2027 was finalised in 2022. The window for the SA20 had not been determined at that stage. Once it became apparent that there would be a clash, we made every effort to find another mutually suitable time-slot for this 2 Test series in consultation with New Zealand Cricket.” "Regrettably the constraints imposed by the global cricket calendar rendered this impossible, as the games must be played before April 2025 as part of the World Test Championship. "We commend Head Coach, Shukri Conrad and his staff for preparing the selected players for this tour, and we are confident that they will represent the Proteas badge with honour. We wish them all the very best. It is an opportunity to demonstrate the depth of talent that we have in South Africa. "Our schedule for the remainder of the FTP has been managed to ensure that there will not be any further clashes between our bilateral commitments and the SA20. CSA remains fully committed to international cricket and to strengthening the SA20, a tournament that was initiated by us to help grow and sustain the game.” Read the full article

Senior players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and captain Rohit Sharma will miss the white-ball phase of the all-format series. The top T20I batsman, Suryakumar Yadav, will captain the T20I team, while KL Rahul will captain the ODI team.

Senior players will return for the two-match Test series, which will begin on December 26 in Centurion and conclude on January 3 in Cape Town. This red-ball leg of the series will be the most anticipated by Indian supporters because India has yet to win a Test series in South Africa.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed their selections for the multi-format series against India, which begins on December 10 at home. Fast bowler Nandre Burger, batsman David Bedingham and Tristan Stubbs, and wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne have all been called up to South Africa’s Test team for the India series.
The T20I and ODI squads will be led by Aiden Markram, while the Test team will be led by Temba Bavuma.
Bavuma and quick bowler Kagiso Rabada have been rested for the white-ball series. Anrich Nortje, who was ruled out of the World Cup owing to a lower back stress fracture, is out of the game in all formats and has no schedule for recuperation.
Stubbs has been named to the Test squad for the first time, along with batter David Bedingham and fast bowler Nandre Burger.

Cenup Afrikalı Rassie van der Dussen (solda) yarım asırlık golün peşinden sopasını kaldırırken David Miller, 10 Kasım 2023'te Ahmedabad'ın Narendra Modi Stadyumu'nda Cenup Afrika ile Afganistan içinde oynanan 2023 Dünya Kupası maçında yanında duruyor. — AFPCenup Afrika, Cuma günü Afganistan'a karşı beş kalelik kolay bir yengi elde ederek Afganistan'ın 2023 Dünya Kupası yolculuğunu sona erdirdi.İkinci vuruşu meydana getiren Proteas, Rassi van der Dussen'in 76 sayılık görkemli vuruşu yardımıyla Afganistan'ın 245 sayılık hedefini geçerek oyunu 48. sırada tamamladı.

[ad_1] KOLKATA: There’s no doubt David Miller has played a vital role for South Africa in their World Cup 2023 campaign. But the middle-order batter perhaps reserved his best for the Eden Gardens here on Thursday. The Proteas have this time stamped their authority while batting first, and their skipper Temba Bavuma decided to tried and tested path after winning the toss in the second semifinal. For a change, the script unfolded differently as South Africa managed just 18 runs and lost two wickets in the first 10 overs. With Rassie van der Dussen also departing soon after, it was left to Miller and Heinrich Klaasen to keep South Africa in the game. With overcast conditions and a gentle breeze assisting the Aussie seamers, it was not the best of situations for batters to shine. The history of South Africa’s poor knockout results in the World Cup must have added to the pressure, as Miller, who walked in with the side in trouble at 24/4, rightly decided to take his time in rebuilding the innings. It was a different Miller than the more popularly-known ‘Killer Miller’ of IPL on display. Miller decided to have a go at none other than Australia’s leading wicket-taker Adam Zampa by lifting the spinner over long-on for a six in the bowler’s second over to bring up South Africa’s 50 in the 17th over. He went on to hit Zampa for three more sixes as Klaasen too grew in confidence to add two more off the same bowler. The two rekindled memories of their act against the same rivals in the fourth match of their home five-match ODI series in September this year when Miller thrashed an unbeaten 82 off 45 balls while Klaasen got 174 to add 222 off 94 balls for the fifth wicket to lift South Africa to 416/5. The hosts went on to win that match as well as the series 3-2 after being down 0-2 earlier. Miller, who got 50 in 70 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes, continued in the same vein after part-time spinner Travis Head broke the 95-run stand between him and Klaasen. Miller brought up his 100 — and the team’s 200 — with a huge six off Josh Hazlewood over deep mid-wicket, but fell a delivery later trying to repeat the shot. “It’s about watching every ball and staying in the moment, trusting your preparation. It’s one-ball-at-a-time,” he said while describing his innings.Watch ICC World Cup: Australia beat South Africa by 3 wickets in second semifinal to set up title clash with India!(function(f, b, e, v, n, t, s) function loadFBEvents(isFBCampaignActive) if (!isFBCampaignActive) return; (function(f, b, e, v, n, t, s) if (f.fbq) return; n = f.fbq = function() n.callMethod ? n.callMethod(...arguments) : n.queue.push(arguments); ; if (!f._fbq) f._fbq = n; n.push = n; n.loaded = !0; n.version = '2.0'; n.queue = []; t = b.createElement(e); t.async = !0; t.defer = !0; t.src = v; s = b.getElementsByTagName(e)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(t, s); )(f, b, e, 'https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/fbevents.js', n, t, s); fbq('init', '593671331875494'); fbq('track', 'PageView'); ; function loadGtagEvents(isGoogleCampaignActive) if (!isGoogleCampaignActive) return; var id = document.getElementById('toi-plus-google-campaign'); if (id) return; (function(f, b, e, v, n, t, s) t = b.createElement(e); t.async = !0; t.defer = !0; t.src = v; t.id = 'toi-plus-google-campaign'; s = b.getElementsByTagName(e)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(t, s); )(f, b, e, 'https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=AW-877820074', n, t, s); ; function loadSurvicateJs(allowedSurvicateSections = []) isHomePageAllowed) (function(w) var s = document.createElement('script'); s.src="https://survey.survicate.com/workspaces/0be6ae9845d14a7c8ff08a7a00bd9b21/web_surveys.js"; s.async = true; var e = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; e.parentNode.insertBefore(s, e); )(window); window.TimesApps = window.TimesApps )( window, document, 'script', ); [ad_2] Source link
