Book Review

I feel like a lot of people sought this out because they liked "Bojack Horseman." Those that did were not disappointed. This collection of short stories has a lot of the deep quotes and serious subjects littered among absurdist humour and objectively hilarious circumstances. In fact, you find yourself somewhat under the impression that these are probably taking place in Hollywoo somewhere. There's a story about compromises as a couple, and it involves about 50 goat sacrifices. There's a story of friendship and avoidance, and also about the superpowers these 20-something band mates get when they're drunk.

There are a lot of moments that have you laughing out loud. Now, this is a collection of short stories with completely different vibes, with even a couple of poems thrown in there. The ones that are good are brilliant. The ones that are bad---in comparison only, more neutral, really---just seem sort of repetitive and I have no real complaints. My only complaint about the collection in general is that probably 50% were based on waxing poetic about break-ups. Which, fine, I should have probably gleaned that from the title, but I found myself in danger of being bored of heartbreak.

As in real life.

My absolute favourite was the 'Up and Comers.' If you can read Audiobooks, definitely get that version, because Stephanie Beatriz *kills* the voice acting. If I could rate that story alone, it'd be an absolute 10/10, but the entire collection evens out to more like an 8/10.

Definitely worth a read, especially if you're in the mood to binge-Bojack. (AKA, need to refill your SSRI script.)
