Deux-mille-deux-cent-soixante-et-un milliards de dollars ! Voilà ce qu’a coûté la plus longue guerre de l’histoire des États-Unis, selon le New York Times. Par an, cela revient à 100 milliards de dollars, soit 20 fois le budget total du gouvernement afghan. Mais la moitié de la population afghane vit encore dans l’extrême pauvreté. L’argent qu’ont envoyé les USA n’a fait que filer dans les poche d’un régime fantoche corrompu, aux ordres de Washington, sans qu’aucune amélioration structurelle ne soit mise en place pour la classe travailleuse afghane. 70 % de la population vit aujourd’hui sous le seuil de pauvreté. 45 % des hommes et 70 % des femmes ne savent ni lire ni écrire. Imaginez ce qu’on aurait pu faire avec ces 100 milliards de dollars par an s’ils avaient été investis dans le social… Ce n’est pas seulement un immense gaspillage financier, mais surtout un drame humanitaire, qui a coûté la vie à plus de 170 000 civils. La situation en Afghanistan démontre l'échec de l’interventionnisme impérialiste des USA et de l’UE. Du soutien aux talibans des années 1980 à l'invasion en 2001, de l'occupation militaire durant 20 ans au départ éclair, les intérêts géostratégiques américains ont déstabilisé toute la région.
