5. a fic with an interesting gimmick for the fic rec ask game

Hmm I’m not sure if this means gimmick as in the plot hook or the format, but I’m gonna pick format because I looove fics that do fun things with the medium. Doing two here because I think most of y’all follow me for SVSSS, but the first one that came to mind was a 2ha fic.

“i think there's been a glitch” by sweetsweetdays (pe_pe_peperoncinocandy) is a ranwan modern/social media AU told in the style of a twitter emulation! You can scroll and click and everything. I’m continually enamored with cool uses of AO3's HTML possibilities!

For SVSSS, one of my favorite authors AMereDream has a lot of fics with interesting conceits or style choices, pretty much all of which I would recommend! In the effort of choosing just one, though, their fic “continued” is a bingyuan fic told mostly in forum posts and transcriptions of Peerless Cucumber’s PIDW video essays/rants. It’s a super fun read

I want a fanfic where Xue Meng had been hearing news about them in a nearby town and he hunts for them there and for a whole month or so, Mo Ran had been trying to be sneaky when Xue Meng is in the town like, oh, Xue Meng is in the shop he favours and he's there as well? Go inside the employee only area and play as a chef like Kronk from Emperor's New Groove!!!

2022 - WEEK 33 WRAP-UP

Thought I should get back into doing a weekly round-up, something I used to do many, many years ago when I had more free time and less stress from real-life issues. It's also a nice time capsule, scrolling past things I was reading or writing or fangirling about.

I changed my Tumblr's pfp, so it matches my AO3's and Dreamwidth's pfp. I'm still using different usernames on all three platforms, but that’s fine. I like the variety.

I also wrote my first CMBYN fic. It's a drabble for one of the prompt communities on Dreamwidth. Nothing much. I don't think it captured the vibe of the book. I definitely need to re-read the source material and re-watch the film, but I'm just glad I was able to revisit the fandom.

For WIPs, I finished a few fics for some prompt events coming up. But I also wrote down a few more plot bunnies that may never see the light of day. If only I had unlimited time and creative energy….A girl can dream. 😂

I Hear the Sunspot, manga series Link: Goodreads Thoughts: This is such a cute yaoi series featuring two college students — Kohei, a hearing impaired student, and Taichi, his note-taker. The drawings are beautiful and the storyline is heartwarming. Highly recommend.

Sasaki and Miyano, anime series Link: Trakt Thoughts: Another cute, wholesome yaoi anime series. It's a high school, slice of life anime about two people getting together. I spent a day re-watching this series since they released an extra episode recently, and it was as good as I remembered it. The animation — the flowers and the colors and the shapes that overlay the scenes — conveys the joy of falling in love for the first time and ahhh. My heart cannot handle this.

RanWan Fic Rec: Catharsis by orphan_account

This is such a beautiful reflection on Chu Wanning's relationship with Mo Ran, including both Mo-Zongshi and Taxian-Jun. It's a missing chapter on how they move forward together after they reunite and how they build a home together. It's everything I wanted for RanWan. It's sweet, sensual, brilliant, and full of love, without shying away from the pain that got them there.

It's one of the best things I've read and I feel so inspired reading this (it's this to which I aspire as a fanfic writer). This is rated Explicit. This fic assumes the reader read the novel, so please assume all spoiler and content warnings apply.

the finale of Becoming Insane (which I’m re-reading time and again) explores all the delicious themes of acceptance that make the reader’s heart go wild on the emotional rollercoaster. when CWN realizes that MR knows nothing of CWN’s true feelings for him and acts on the grounds of pure undiluted uncertainty - and therefore promptly arrives to a conclusion he’s not worthy of CWN. and needs to struggle more. to EARN the reciprocation! to overcome his identity disorder and to integrate into one wholesome MR. to thusly become deserving of CWN. no other way. oh my god. it’s so beautifully written - and that theme of acceptance without needing to specifically earn it - is every time so groundbreakingly marvellous and important and uhhh. and the way TXJ realizes someone’s caring specifically for him?
