Charles Rowland week, day 1: "Cricket bat/the brawn"

It's unlikely I'll manage other prompts but I really wanted to draw Charles with his magic cricket bat🏏

Among the photos were unstaged images Aziraphale had not been aware of—these must be the “candids” Anathema had referred to. They included a shot of Crowley and Tracy in discussion, Crowley’s arm slack against the back of the sofa. In another image, Aziraphale was bent over the computer while Newt hovered at a respectful distance. One photo showed Aziraphale and Crowley from behind as they stood near the gramophone, Aziraphale’s hand on Crowley’s back and face tilted up to him. Anathema had also taken a picture of the two of them giggling on the sofa together.

Then there was the staged shot where they were both seated and looking into the camera. Though Crowley’s smile was slight, almost awkward, it was clear that he was comfortable, with his hand relaxed on Aziraphale’s shoulder like it belonged there (because, of course, it did). Aziraphale’s face was jubilant and open, as if he was surprised that it was possible to be so happy. Their hands were joined over the swell of Crowley’s middle, united in a gesture of shared contentment and unconcealed pride.

Dead Boy Detectives character appreciation week, day 2: Charles Rowland

💀🔎Kind, loyal, fiercely protective Charles. Who wouldn't love a character so readily putting himself in harm's way to save those he loves? However, when asked why fans of the show love Charles so much, the answer often is the same: Charles makes them feel seen. While I said that I see a lot of myself in Edwin, the same also goes for Charles.

Outwardly Charles is this cheerful guy who easily befriends everyone, but there's another side to him too. He hides his feelings of grief and anger caused both by the abuse he faced and his untimely death. While my past is different from Charles's, there are some similarities, and I've also struggled with issues of feeling like I can never be good enough as well as people pleasing. In this sense, Charles facing his feelings and coming to terms with his past reminds me of myself.

Charles's journey through grief and acceptance is touchingly portrayed by the incredible Jayden Revri who makes Charles the complex character that he is. I'm especially impressed by Jayden's talent in episodes 3 and 4 where he really makes me feel Charles's despair as if it was my own. Thank you for so beautifully breathing life into Charles.

I'm trembling with excitement because the lovely folks on the discord shared this amazing link to Edwardian-related things with primary and secondary sources and so my wants-to-write-an-edwardian-AU-for-dbd brain is very, very happy right now.

These Brilliant Lights is coming to AO3 in the foreseeable future, ladies and gents, and I am excited for it.
