It’s very interesting that Randy said “my cop uncle wants to make something of me” since River told V that Randy’s the type of kid who always finds trouble. The use of “out of me” instead of “out of myself” is telling: River was actively involved in trying to guide Randy, but Randy was so defeated by his class status, the death of his father and his mom’s depression that he pushed himself away from his family and friends.

River saw Randy’s rebellion as a thing needing to be fixed rather than an indication of something deeper. It was probably after several failed attempts at guidance that River decided it was easier help from afar instead of directly involving himself. But it only further strained his relationship with Joss.

Yet to River, getting the family a new trailer made up for not coming by so often anymore. He overcompensated for his regret of not being present enough by providing financially and buried himself in his work to avoid confronting his guilt. It wasn’t until Harris that he was forced to face those feelings head-on.

Monique and Dorian are as happy as children in the Badlands can be, but Randy is miserable as an older teen. Moving into his own trailer more than likely worsened his mental health and made him feel more isolated instead of giving him the space that Joss and River thought he wanted.

Randy has dreams beyond the nomadic country lifestyle his dad led. He’s tech-oriented, but can’t afford the hardware to compete with the city kids. He’s burdened as the eldest child of a mother with her own mental health struggles and refuses to let his uncle to become his father figure.

Then came Anthony Harris with the answers to every one of his life’s problems.

It's not a particularly long snippet of dialogue, but I like the way the sentiment was conveyed along with the body language. Which for better or worse is always something I cram in my writing. Plus, I managed to sneak in some Central Pomo in a way that makes sense. (Translation - "I understand.")

"You okay?" River addressed Randy. Startled, the teenager jumped at the question. "I– Yeah." He nodded, hands wrapped around his arms like he was suddenly cold. "I'm okay." Making sure she wasn't on the verge of keeling over again, River propped V against the passenger side of the truck before going over to Randy. He reached out, his organic hand resting on his nephew's slim shoulders, a gesture that he could take or leave. Hesitation slipped across Randy's face before it crumpled and he collapsed, skinny arms wrapping around his uncle. River hugged him back and kissed him on the top of the head. “‘aa ba’uoech.”

after playing river's story again (note to self: NEVER play that after the stephenson questline again wtf-) and having an innate love of angst and drama, and Night City being a place with no happy endings, it got me thinking on Randy and something i might explore someday

Randy survives, and maybe in some other life he might have been set to recover as well as much as someone can after the shit he's been through, but not in NC and not for where they stand on the foodchain but Randy is tired, he's so tired of being as low as he is there, he's tired of the sleepless nights and the fitful nightmares when he does sleep, of the jingle caught in his head and keeping him trapped, he's tired of his little siblings laughter and energy and stupid, naive fucking happiness when there's nothing to be happy about

it takes a lot of begging and not an insubstantial amount of guilt-tripping that makes him feel even more like shit afterwards for him to convince his uncle to teach him how to shoot so that he never feels so weak and defenseless again. he knows his uncle too, has heard his mum and him talk about somebody called V; they saved his life apparently. he never met them before they fucked off to somewhere else and how great could they have been if they left his uncle with a broken heart? he swings between not caring to feeling like he hates them- but he uses their name for what he wants, says he wants to be able to save himself the way they saved him and his uncle gets this stupid, loving but forlorn little look in his eye when he nods and agrees that makes him feel even more like shit but he sleeps a little more soundly with his own iron under his pillow

makes him feel like he's stepped up a rung on the ladder

eventually, River tells him more about V and he's only half listening really, taking aim, imagining the cans in the distance to be a face he never wants to see again. they had silverhand in their head- he misses a shot for the first time in weeks. listens a little more keenly the next time his uncle talks about them, even starts asking questions, about their gigs, how they got started and something takes root in his head

v was high on life, running wild with teeth bared in a grin. no fear, cos what did they have to fear? randy still wakes up gasping for air sometimes and he doesn't want to anymore, his finger is itching, and he has a ton of ignored texts and missed calls from Natalie and the others- he keeps ignoring them as he reaches out to the local fixer, getting his foot in the door with small jobs, because they won't trust him with the high-paying shit off the bat and he knows that but its frustrating- he starts calling his lexington Retaliation, starts looking for a crew, tells his mum he's doing courier work - she doesn't believe him, but she doesn't press. he has 'peter pan' on the tip of his tongue ready for when she does and its more cutting than a knife

It’s fucked up but the one that stands out to me is when you do The Hunt and access Anthony’s computer and you see the email where Randy talks about how Joss has tried to kill herself. It puts so much of his character into perspective and also raises a ton of questions.

and I'm back to thinking about shit that pisses me off. A topic on my top 10 list? That 70s Show Season 8 with Jackie and Hyde.

Obviously, say what you want about Danny Masterson, but Jackie and Hyde were supposed to be end game. You're telling me that they got a new show writer who decided "I don't like the relationship that the show took five fuckin seasons to develop so Imma just throw that shit out the window and have Hyde marry a stripper and Jackie end the series with Fez, then grow up to marry Kelso in the reboot?"

Yes, the marriage of Jackie and Kelso probably had everything to do with Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher's real life marriage, and most likely the Danny Masterson trial (he wasn't convicted at time of filming and at that point it was still technically "alleged") but that doesn't excuse Season 8.

They were in love. They were in love before they knew they were in love. There is no way that one miscommunication would have ended this entire relationship that, honestly, has probably been forming since Hyde took her to prom.

They both displayed character growth in their relationship that wouldn't have existed if they weren't together. Jackie helped Hyde be more in touch with his feelings and allow himself to actually FEEL. It's like Eric said, before Jackie, he was some pissed off guy living in his basement. Jackie made him happy.

Their relationship didn't revolve strictly around their sex like the relationship between Jackie and Kelso seemed to. Hyde was also always there for her, even before they were dating, when they "hated each other" Jackie went to Hyde for comfort. Whether it's because he had the calming presence and wouldn't say something meaningless to try to make her feel better or the fact that she deep down cares about him a lot I'm not sure, but you can't deny that fact.

In season 8, after their breakup, I really thought that they would get back together again. That this was a (though rather large) blip in their relationship. But it wasn't. They stuck with the shitty storyline they developed around Hyde marrying Sam the Stripper, and they shoved Jackie into Fez's arms. The way they made that one happen sucked too. Fez was always up Jackie's ass about getting with him, even while she was in relationships (though he backed off considerably when she was with Hyde), but he didn't really change at all. Fez was still just as perverted as when we first met him when the two get together.

But other than that, Jackie and Hyde also became things they both spent seasons 1-7 trying to avoid becoming. Jackie's bitchiness and shallowness came back worse than ever, and Hyde pretty much became a worse stoner/drunk. Plus, even when they "hated each other" in the series, they were still civil. In Season 8, they just were downright nasty to each other, and it honestly was painful to watch.

Even in background moments during the series, they were always holding each other or talking or generally being close. They truly loved each other, and I think the show throwing that out was one of the main things that led to Season 8 sucking (the other being fuckin Randy)

Jesus this was long-winded, but I'm passionate about this fuckin show, and specifically Jackie and Hyde, so that's probably why. Hope you enjoyed my ranting!

once valentina started getting more uppity and well known in night city ($$$$$), she was able to help joss pay off randy’s medical bills and also helped joss re-enroll randy into school so he could graduate (also because she’s extra, she has delamain pick up and drop off all the kutcher kids at their respective schools so joss can go to work without worrying about getting them to and from school!) :’) valentina loves river’s family so much and she wants to let them live normal lives again after what happened with randy because she still has nightmares (as does river) about what she saw on that farm, so she can only imagine how bad it must be for randy ❤️‍🩹

😭 CRYING - what makes them cry? do they cry easily? (venus)

it takes a lot to make venus cry tbh but the one thing that does make her cry is a cat, she loves cats SO much… she gets so emotional seeing cats on the street and likes to think in another life, she ran a rescue for kitties ☹️ so instead, while she was employed by arasaka, she would make a monthly donation to animal shelters around night city to help them with any surgeries or care they might need!!

she had a plushie her parents got for her before she was even born that she kept for most of her life and she took it with her EVERYWHEREEE truly one of her best friends... but when she moved out, she gave it to her grandmother for save keeping. but after her removal by arasaka, her whole family basically shunned her no matter how hard she tried to tell them otherwise, so even thinking about the small little pearlescent dragon brings back painful memories for her :(

vernon has a very mild temper, it takes a LOTTTTT to get him mad omg so definitely a slow boil!!

vernon is a nomad because he has basically lost every family he has known (his biological one, his adoptive one, etc.). vernon was given up for adoption as a baby by a couple who were unable to give him the life he deserved, so a close friend of his mother promised to raise him as their own. his nomad family was part of a small clan, removed from the seven nations that inhabit the NUSA and were located north were modern day vegas is. he grew up happy until he was about 18 when he was off working a seasonal job at some biotechnica plant, after the season was over, he returned to find his whole clan had basically been slaughtered, only a few members remained who were also returning from their seasonal jobs. so vernon and the remaining nomads gathered what they could of their family to honor them and eventually joined the bakkers which is where his story starts at the beginning of cyberpunk!!! (damn sorry for that long ass dissertation 💀)

I swear i thought i replied to some of your questions a few days ago but i’m starting to think that I might’ve forgotten to and now i feel bad. But to summarize it: When we first started watching, he thought that Gale looked a little bit like Ashton Kutcher (but older version) and it was the funniest thing ever to me. He did only talk about it in the pilot though. Btw I am more and more tempted to later on give him Gale’s out of the box interview to watch. Or Randy’s podcast. He has been asking me about the actors a lot lately and if they still act and where are they and if theyre all still friends and I’m avoiding answering because well, one of them abandoned his podcast and the other one we dont even know if he’s still alive until we get a new photo. But I do wonder how he will react when he finds out Gale is straight ngl because right now he fully thinks Gale is gay irl.

Also yes, he has been going on and on about Brian’s growth and how he’s changed since he clocked it around 4th episode. He is so happy that he’s growing and allowing himself to be happy and in love even if he doesn’t want to admit it, that i just know the second 5x01 will start, he will have a mental breakdown and it will be very valid of him.

Your celebrities/therapist story actually made me curious now because how can a celeb that is well known, even get a therapist then without weirdness. I had no clue this was kind of a thing. And yes! My brother would absolutely launch into a discussion about Gale without shame, he’d have pictures and everything ready for it. I mean his confidence when it comes to talking to literally anyone about anything in his life (usually interests and shit he’s done thats funny to him or in this case the show) is impressive as fuck but also for an innocent bystander like me? actually a nightmare to be around that. He truly doesn’t give a single fuck and has zero shame and all the confidence in the world and idk how he does it. He just tells anyone who will listen (not in a trauma dumping type of way but like his interests and such? No shame) to give an example: when he was in high school he made an entire poster presentation for his class to talk about his love for the movie School of Rock and HE DID IT BY SINGING A FAKE ROCK N ROLL SONG (id give anything to remember the lyrics). Mind you, the presentation was supposed to be about current events in politics/world and School of Rock came out like a year or two prior. So you best believe he would do the exact same for Gale or more importantly QAF/Brian/Britin. And as someone who does shy away from talking about qaf just because it is a lot, he on the other hand truly gives zero fucks. Because when we started watching the show, he was fully explaining to the nurses/doctors/anyone that listened(our parents!!!) about how the show is AND HOW BRITIN MET! He TALKED ABOUT THE RIM JOB! I NEVER EVEN FUCKING TOLD YALL THAT! HE TALKED TO OTHER HUMANS ABOUT THE RIM JOB! AND HE WAS FULLY EXPLAINING IT bc he was shocked and surprised at how they filmed it and couldn’t figure out if that meant gale really did do it or not. So if you ever feel like maybe you’ve overshared about something you like and it keeps you up at night. Fear no more because my brother has for sure shared even more and has zero regrets about it.

It is hard to believe Gale is straight because he is that good of an actor and just went fully into the role and really thought deeply about who Brian is. Ugh it hurts my heart to think about just because it’s so full of appreciation for Gale and Randy.

I think you could show him any media that was released while the show was airing. But maybe avoid anything more current? Until he’s done and his heart is broken. He is going to be so upset by all the back pedaling in s5. Which is the correct reaction.

I have a specific approach I take when I have celebrity clients and I think I could be a therapist to someone I’m a casual fan of. I could never be a therapist to someone I’m actively in a fandom for. I would have to leave the fandom, for starters.

HE TOLD PEOPLE ABOUT THE RIMMING SCENE!?! Oh my god. Anon you have to at least have him listen to Randy’s podcast episode about bottoming where he essentially said that Justin was too naive to do any prep and therefore someone experienced would have never rimmed him without making him at least shower first.

New Year's Eve

Sharing kali ini diambil dari sebuah film yang hari ini gw tonton

Sebenernya dari review-review yang ada, film ini biasa saja 

Tapi bentuknya memang unik karena mengambil tema film collage, atau multi-plot, atau pola jaring laba-laba.

Apa tuh? Ribet banget.

Artinya sebuah film yang menggabungkan beberapa plot kemudian diceritakan secara bergantian. Karena banyak, pasti ribet kan, makanya ceritanya ringan dan gak mendalam. 

Secara singkat film ini bercerita tentang beberapa kisah pasangan-pasangan di malam tahun baru 2011 ke 2012. 

Ada pasangan suami istri, ada pasangan baru jadi, ada pasangan orang tua dan anak, dll. 

Kenapa gw tetarik nonton ini? Karena cast nya terkenal semua haha

Ada Zac Efron, Ashton Kutcher, Lea Michelle, Josh Duhamel, Robert De Niro, Katherine Heighl, Jessica Biel dll sampai lah tiba-tiba ada Jon Bon Jovi disitu. 

Jadi, setiap pasangan itu punya masalah dan ceritanya masing-masing yang akan gw share singkatnya.

Claire Morgan adalah Vice President dari Times Square Alliance yang ditugaskan untuk mengurus perayaan New Year's Eve di Times Square. Salah satu & tugas terberatnya adalah mengurus bola lampu yang menjadi tradisi di Times Square untuk dijatuhkan sebagai penanda untuk countdown menuju pergantian tahun. Ternyata, disamping membawa tanggung jawab untuk memastikan acara New Year's tersebut lancar, bola lampu itu memiliki cerita personal antara Claire Morgan dengan ayahnya, Stan Harris yang sedang sakit dan menolak untuk diberikan pengobatan apapun karena tau saatnya telah tiba. Stan Harris menghabiskan malam tahun baru di rumah sakit yang memiliki rooftop berseberangan dengan tower bola lampu itu akan dijatuhkan. 

Di rumah sakit yang sama ada 2 pasang suami istri yang sedang menunggu kelahiran bayi mereka. Mereka saling berkompetisi untuk melahirkan anak mereka di malam tahun baru agar mendapatkan hadiah uang (ya ceritanya kan jarang ya ada bayi lahir di tahun baru jadi ya beritanya heboh gitu jadi dapet uang).

Selain itu, di perayaan New Year's Eve itu juga ada bintang tamu penyanyi bernama Jensen yang setahun yang lalu kabur dari ceweknya, Laura padahal dia mau ngelamar gitu. Trus si Laura patah hati dan lebih mengejar karirnya di bidang makanan. Malam itu, Laura jadi vendor acara New Year's Eve di Ahern Record. 

Ahern Record itu dimiliki oleh keluarga Sam yang punya kendala untuk pergi ke acara tersebut karena mobilnya nabrak pohon pas lagi cari jalan via maps (ini scene ngakak banget). Ternyata tahun sebelumnya, dia ketemu cewek misterius yang kasih petunjuk kalau mereka jodoh, tahun baru ini mereka akan ketemu di satu tempat (ini agak impossible).

Ada seorang Staf Ahern Record yang kerja disitu, namanya Ingrid. Di New Year's Eve dia punya 1 set list wishlist yang dia ingin capai sebelum tahun baru berganti dan dia dibantuin sama Paul untuk mewujudkannya. Paul itu seorang kurir (ganteng amat yang main Zac Efron, ada kurir begini juga gw cari-cari alasan bikin wishlist biar ditemenin).

Paul itu punya temen namanya Randy yang punya insiden buruk di malam tahun baru sebelumnya, jadi dia benci tuh ngerayain tahun baru. Terus dia kejebak di lift apartemennya sendiri sama Elise, yang ternyata penyanyi latarnya Jensen. 

Selain temen, Paul itu juga punya saudara namanya Kim yang punya anak ABG namanya Hailey. Ceritanya mereka berantem karena Kim gak bolehin Hailey pergi ke acara tahun baru sama temen-temennya (padahal mau ketemu gebetan gitu).

Yak dari semua konflik-konflik di atas, ternyata gw mendapat beberapa pesan yang mau gw share ke siapapun yang baca ini. 

Sebelumnya, pasti berasa gantung kan gw ceritain konfliknya tapi gak ada endingnya.

Begini

Akhir cerita, si Claire berhasil membuat bola lampu di Times Square diperbaiki dan acara New Year's Eve nya lancar. Dia juga bisa nemenin ayahnya, Stan Harris di saat-saat terakhirnya dengan merasakan kembali momen masa kecil saat Claire merayakan malam tahun baru bersama ayahnya. 

Trus dua pasangan yang berkompetisi itu akhirnya sama-sama ngelahirin anaknya barengan. Tapi salah satu pasangan, akhirnya mengalah untuk merelakan hadiah uang tersebut dimiliki oleh pasangan satunya karena mereka lebih membutuhkan uang tersebut. 

Jensen akhirnya sama Laura balikan lagi dan tetap mendukung karir masing-masing, walaupun Jensen akhirnya berkorban untuk gak melanjutkan tur konsernya untuk bareng-bareng sama Laura.

Sam akhirnya ketemu cewek misteriusnya yang ternyata adalah mamanya Hailey, yes, Kim (ini endingnya lebih impossible lagi haha mana kepikiran si, boleh lah twistnya disini). Trus hubungan Hailey sama Kim juga baik lagi karena Kim akhirnya gak terlalu posesif dan membiarkan Hailey seneng-seneng sama temen-temennya (+ gebetan).

Ingrid berhasil accomplish semua wishlist nya dan (ini juga gak ketebak) semacam jadian sama Paul. Padahal usia mereka beda jauh.

Randy sama Elise ending nya ya ketauan lah ya cinlok. Ya coba kejebak di lift berjam-jam pas malam tahun baru lagi, gimana gak baper.

Trus dari konflik ke endingnya kenapa bisa begitu gimana? Nonton aja sendiri ya. 

Intinya

Kisah-kisah ini tuh gak jauh dari kehidupan kita. Ada kisah percintaan, ada kisah tentang pursue karir kita, pengorbanan, mengejar mimpi, dll. Di akhir film ini, gw disadarkan kalau untuk merayakan tahun baru itu gak harus dengan hal-hal besar kayak pakai kembang api, tapi hal-hal sederhana itu bisa punya impact yang besar buat diri kita dan juga orang lain. 

Dan personally, gw benar-benar merenungkan beberapa dialog dari film ini yang seperti post sebelumnya, bisa relate dengan perasaan yang gw alami selama ini. So here it is,

The ball has stopped half way to its perch. It's suspended there to remind us before we pop the champagne and celebrate the new year, to stop, and reflect on the year that has gone by, to remember both our triumphs and our missteps, our promises made and broken, the times we opened ourselves up to great adventures, or closed ourselves down for fear of getting hurt, because that's what new year's all about, getting another chance,  a chance to forgive, to do better, to do more, to give more, to love more, and to stop worrying about what if and start embracing what will be So when the ball drops at midnight, and it will drop, let's remember to be nice to each other, kind to each other, and not just tonight but all year long. Sometimes it feels like there are so many things in this world we can't control. Earthquakes, floods, reality shows But it's important to remember the things that we can. Like forgiveness, second chances, fresh starts Because the one thing that turns the world from the longing place to a beautiful place is love Love and any of its forms. Love gives us hope Hope for the new year
