Morning Commute: A Cone
An old, faded orange cone stood
in front
of the stump left
at the side
of the road
after the fallen tree was cut
away
from the road so cars could pass,
and the dull cone was a daily marker
of the dying log
so close
to the edge
of the road
just around the curve
on the frontage road
beyond the greenhouse,
but today the cone was gone
and the contrast
of the rings
in the stump-
which show the age
and the stories
that the tree could tell-
was obvious
in the way it highlighted
the fact that today the cone was gone,
and
in its absence the mirage
of a beautiful live, full tree
was the climax
of my drive.

What do I do when I am feeling anxious?
Hi! Everyone, I know we don’t have talked in a while as last month most of the posts here were about what I have read or reblogs about the series I watch these past months. So, I thought it was time for an update about me and something that I am thankful for.
The past was really difficult for me as I for the first time went into job hunting, something that I didn’t know how difficult It would de in the domain I went to university for. So, I started feeling anxious and started picking silly fights with the people most close to me, like family and friends. In all this, I started to think about what to do for myself to help not feel all of that. I learned more ways to cope and I thought to talk about them.
Meditation: The most important to me was meditation and thinking alone with my eyes closed somewhere I was comfortable doing so.
Walking: Another was going for walks around my city and really around my house. In those I thought and listened to music. Sometimes with a warm or iced drink but most just with my thoughts. Sometimes I went with other people but mostly alone.
Reading books or fanfiction: One of the reasons I read so much is because it brings me to different worlds and helps me forget about my problems. Fanfiction writers also help me with that, especially for my favorite series or a series I just started watching. Also, many writers in their stories tell you new ways to cope.
Writing these posts or in general: I started writing for practice and myself because it helps me to think about a specific subject or a story for a small period. I know it doesn’t seem as much in the last few months, because I have a bit of writer’s block but now my job has given me the motivation to start again. So don’t worry you will see more stories from me.
Listening to music: Artists like Dannielle Bradberry and Taylor Swift helped me to be in a state of newness and gave me the motivation I needed. I am a person that listens to everything from country and pop to classical and rock, so I am finding for every mood.
Thank you for listening to my ramblings and I hope I gave ideas so someone like me.

"You're praying now to your grandmother. She died nine moons ago. She lost an eye. A rock smashed her face as she was crossing the Belt. She was twelve when it happened. At that time, this world had a Fremen name. Dune."

"She is portraying a mother that has the ability to speak mentally with her unborn daughter. She has all those voices coming from the past guiding her to go in that crazy zone of surrealism where she is one of the darkest forces in "DUNE: Part Two" and one of the most powerful characters as well. Rebecca absolutely nailed it!" - Denis Villeneuve

It's crazy to me the depths of the characterization that is quietly under the surface in "Dune".
Like the Reverend Mother Gaisu Helen Mohiam in the movie Dune - Part I going above and beyond to save Paul and Jessica's lives because Jessica is her favorite child and Paul is her grandson.
Just the quiet humanity of her rigging the fix against the Atrieides just enough to save her daughter and grandchild when she isn't supposed too.
I'm disappointed that in the movie they didn't get more into Mohiam and Jessica's backstory, about how much she loves Jessica and went out of her way to raise her own child against the Sisterhood's mandates. Or the fact that she is forever bitter against the Atreides for taking her little girl away from her, whether its the plan or not.
And how, at least in the movies, Jessica is raising Paul in the same manner that Mohiam raised her. With the cold and detached relationship of a mentor and bodyguard but with a love so powerful and darkly obsessive that it can destroy nearly 1,000 years of planning.
Fuck, dude, Paul even looks like Mohiam in the movies. Like Timothee and Charlotte Rampling look so much alike it's kind of scary. Which, for years, casual fans of the movies were like "Paul doesn't look anything like his parents" and I didn't want to spoil anything by saying "No, but if you look behind her veil, Paul looks like his grandma."
Just a thought as I'm listening to the audio book again while watching clips of Part I again.

I feel like a lot of the time anime subtitles translate "chu" as "kiss" when "mwah" would make more sense in context.
Don't take my word for it though. I'm just a filthy American. I don't even speak Japanese.

Wonders of Life
I will start this series with a documentary with presenter the phenomenal Brian Cox. This particular one, as I have seen most of them talks in a five-episode series about the fundamentals of life, from the molecules we are made to evolution, to the size it is so we can live on this wonderful planet.
I start this series with a documentary because they mean a lot to me especially when I think about a story or text I am writing. I started my dissertation in my post-grad program with a quote from   Jacques-Yves Cousteau about the preservation of the natural world that I heard from a Brian Cox documentary the year prior. It is inspiring to see our planet through the eyes of biology, physics, and chemistry.

I studied geology, which is an Earth Science, for this particular reason, so I can learn more about the Earth and the Solar System and understand how to protect it.
The image is from Google, and it is from the amazing book he wrote after, you learn even more from that. It is magnificent, too.
Thanks for reading. If you have a suggestion you want me to talk about in the next weeks, do not hesitate to message me.
