Rich in spirituality, history, and culture, the city has long been a major pilgrimage destination. With the recent completion of the magnificent Ayodhya Ram Mandir, Ayodhya has gained even more prominence. Whether you’re planning your first visit to this holy city or seeking spiritual solace, this guide will help you make the most of your journey to the Ram Mandir.
The Historical Significance of Ayodhya and Ram Mandir
Ayodhya’s significance dates back thousands of years, deeply rooted in Hindu mythology and the epic Ramayana. As the birthplace of Lord Ram, Ayodhya is a major pilgrimage site, drawing devotees from across the world. The construction of the Ram Mandir, a symbol of faith, devotion, and cultural heritage, is a historic milestone. The temple, now a sacred site, is expected to become one of India’s most important religious landmarks.
Planning Your Visit
Here’s everything you need to know to plan a smooth and memorable visit to Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir:
1. Travel Arrangements
Ayodhya is well-connected by road and rail, making it easily accessible from major cities across India. The nearest airport is in Lucknow, approximately 140 kilometers away. From there, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Ayodhya.
2. Accommodation
From budget-friendly hotels to luxury stays, Prabhu Darshan Yatra offers a range of accommodation options in Ayodhya. It’s advisable to book your stay well in advance, especially during peak pilgrimage seasons, to avoid any last-minute hassle.
3. Best Time to Visit
Ayodhya is a year-round destination, but major Hindu festivals like Ram Navami and Diwali see a higher influx of pilgrims. While visiting during these festivals can enhance the spiritual experience, it may also be more crowded. For a quieter visit, consider traveling during the off-season months.
What to Expect at the Ram Mandir
A visit to the Ram Mandir is an awe-inspiring spiritual experience. Here’s what you can expect:
1. Awe-Inspiring Architecture
The Ram Mandir’s architecture is nothing short of breathtaking. The intricate carvings, towering spires, majestic domes, and detailed sculptures depicting scenes from the Ramayana make it a visual marvel. The temple’s traditional Indian design reflects centuries-old architectural styles, adding to its spiritual allure.
2. A Sacred and Spiritual Atmosphere
The moment you step into the temple grounds, you’ll feel enveloped in a profound spiritual atmosphere. The sound of hymns, the bells ringing, and the fragrance of incense create an environment that exudes devotion and peace. As you walk through the temple complex, you will feel an immediate connection to the divine.
3. Main Sanctum and Deity
The main sanctum houses the idols of Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman, and Hanuman. Adorned in fine fabrics and jewelry, the deities are a sight to behold. Devotees often offer prayers, flowers, and other offerings, expressing their reverence for Lord Ram and his family.
4. Rituals and Ceremonies
The Ram Mandir is home to various daily rituals, including aartis (rituals involving light), bhajans (devotional songs), and other religious ceremonies. Visitors can participate in these rituals, providing them a deeper understanding of Hindu traditions and elevating their spiritual experience.
5. Temple Grounds and Visitor Facilities
The temple complex is expansive and thoughtfully designed. With beautifully landscaped gardens, water bodies, and well-maintained pathways, it’s a peaceful place to reflect and connect spiritually. The facilities for visitors, including clean restrooms, drinking water, and shaded seating areas, ensure a comfortable experience.
Tips for a Memorable Visit
To make the most of your visit to the Ram Mandir, here are some helpful tips:
1. Dress Modestly
As the Ram Mandir is a place of worship, it’s important to dress modestly. Avoid wearing shorts, sleeveless tops, or revealing clothing. Traditional attire like sarees, salwar kameez, or kurta-pajamas are appropriate for both men and women.
2. Respect the Customs
Follow the temple’s customs and guidelines. Remove your shoes before entering the temple, maintain silence inside the sanctum, and refrain from touching idols or sacred objects unless permitted.
3. Photography Restrictions
Photography may not be allowed in certain areas of the temple. Be sure to check the guidelines before attempting to take any photos, and always respect the rules. It’s best to ask the temple authorities for permission beforehand.
4. Stay Hydrated and Take Breaks
Ayodhya can be quite hot, especially in summer, so make sure to carry water with you. The temple complex has plenty of shaded areas and seating arrangements, perfect for taking a break and staying hydrated.
5. Engage with the Locals
The local priests and devotees are often eager to share stories and insights about the temple’s history and significance. Engaging with them can provide a deeper understanding of the cultural and religious importance of the Ram Mandir.
Exploring Beyond the Ram Mandir
While the Ram Mandir is undoubtedly the main attraction, Ayodhya offers several other notable places to explore:

A snap from Dhanush Kodi Ram sethu. It's also known as Adam's bridge. The bridge connected India and Sri Lanka as maha rishi Valmiki said in his Ramayana, which is the Revered scriptures of Hindus. It is said that the bridge was built by Rama's Vanar Sena. With great devotion, one stone after another was dropped into the water with the inscription 'Rama' on the rocks on the shore and miraculously, these stones also floated on the sea. It was from this bridge that Lord Ramachandra went to Ravana's Lanka and rescued Mother Sita.
Salute to those Ram devotees and salutate to that epoch maker Lord Ramchandra.

Ramnavmi was such fun and full of colors and diyas till the time I was in my country. I miss the holy text of Ramayana recited at different temples during the entire day of Ram Navami along with the Akhand Paath. The main road of my city turned into a big fair where the processions of 'shobha yatras' of the idols of Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshman along with Hanuman were organized across the streets. Temples and other religious places are decorated with lights and the idols of Lord Rama are adorned with the best of clothes and jewellery. Though every country has hindu temples to celebrate this day beautifully, the memories of my city will always have the closest niche in my heart........ #saturdaysitbacks #navratraendstonight #lastevening #ramnavami #9daysoffast #comingtoanend #memoriesofmycity #l4l #nofestivaliscomplete #withoutdiyas #withoutrangolis #withoutflowers #likeforlikes #follow #yourheart #jaishreeram #ranchidiaries https://www.instagram.com/p/BwNJvOmHwbf/?igshid=xzlqitqtk4b

RADHE RADHE!
This is how the town will welcome you.
It’s a wealthy city - rich from the enthralling tales of a much-loved deity, rich from antiquity of a distant past, rich from all the warmth and humility of its people and it willingly lets out all of it for You; the thirsty soul on a pilgrim trail. This is Uttar Pradesh, a northern state in India, where a small town infused with such level of divinity and piety does exist in reality – Mathura!
A city steeped in historical tales, myths and legends dating many centuries back, it still retains relics of the same with its numerous historic temples and shrines very well holding guard its mysticism for any spiritual seeker setting foot on its holy soil. A mythic town of the olden days, Mathura is the birthplace of the most lovable, the darling of all Gods, the blue hued God of the Hindu Pantheon - Lord Krishna and it beautifully makes the heart of the Braj Bhoomi (Brajbhoomi can be divided into two distinct units - the eastern part in the trans-Yamuna tract with places like Gokul, Mahavan, Baldeo, Mat and Bajna and the western side of the Yamuna covering the Mathura region that encompasses Vrindavan, Govardhan, Kusum Sarovar, Barsana and Nandgaon).
Nandgaon is known as the place where Krishna was brought from Mathura by his biological father and is named after his second father Nand. There is a very famous temple of the Shani Dev, locally it is referred to as Shani Dham. Lot of people visit this place on Saturday, so there is always a rush at this temple in the evening. That's the reason you should visit it in the morning. There are three things that you can do here, visit that Shani Dham temple. The offering done here include, oil, iron and coin. You should not bring back prasad from this temple, it is not considered to be good. The other temple here is the Navgrah temple. Apart from these temples you can take a dip in the pond or sarovar, if not bath then I would recommend washing your hands, feet and face with the water. The third thing is Parikarma. Although you can do the parikarma by car on any other given day, but on Saturday you have to do it by foot. After you have visited this place, you can go to Barsana, this is the village where Shri Radha is use to stay. Pray quietly in its temples, hang around near the Yamuna River, or watch just sadhus and sages in orange stroll down the ancient alleys just as Krishna did many ages ago.
Mesmerizing tales from this holy land find mention in many an ancient Hindu Scriptures like Mahabharata, Ramayana and the Bhagavat Purana and they all miraculously come alive in the narrow corridors of Mathura. Historical buildings stand in every nook and corner providing a rare glimpse into the past, their antiquity never failing to overwhelm you. The place where sacred Mother River Yamuna flows unruffled and undisturbed with her own charm and it personifies the pious fervour of the city and its people to a great extent along with all the chaotic hustle of this town.
There is a famous temple of Rahda ji that you can see. The temple is situated on a hill; there are two ways you can reach the temple. One is via staircase which is very steep. You can go yourself or palki is available too. The other way is by car, if you decide to take your own car then let me tell you one the road is very narrow and only one car can go. So before starting you have to check downstairs that there is no car that is coming down. If you get stuck in the middle there is only one way from that is to come back. So enquire before you start. The same people can organise a car for you, you can check that as well and again you may have to negotiate the price. Next day you will have the option to visit the remaining temples and the various gardens that Vrindavan has to offer.
From there you can go to Goverdhan and Mathura as explained in the One Day trip. This will also give you the option to visit Dwarkadheesh temple in Mathura. Now if you are planning a three day trip you can go to Agra from Mathura it is around 50 kms from there and visit the Taj Mahal. Remember one thing, all these places Nandgaon, Barsana, Goverdhan, Vrindavan and Mathura, collectively known Brij yatra, these are the places where religiously Lord Krishna was born and brought up. Every street; however small it is will have something to offer but make sure you do your homework before you start.
Every place has a historical importance, it is believed that every house in Vrindavan is a temple as Lord Krishna use to visit. Vrindavan is the place where Lord Krishna uses to meet Shri Radha Ji, so will have lot of stories from the Krishna Leela.
Mathura the home to Lord Krishna and His many legends, is today a warm swirl merging history, festivals and chaotic fanfare; its currents drawing travellers from far and wide taking them deep in our ancient culture and heritage!
At end, I wish you a happy journey.
