Utik
The utik (yoo-tik) are a sophont species the rakii came in contact with when they first landed on Ra'hah, their second largest moon orbiting Rek. The utik were actually the first to even set foot onto it, as they had no other choice. After suffering massive damage to their ship, the utik were forced to land on the lunar surface and hope to survive or await help. Years later, the rakii show up, which started an a long, chaotic process of attempt of communication and debating ownership.
The bodies of the utik are actually not their true bodies. The actual sophont lies within the pearly cased cockpit. Utik like the Olac bio-mechs, mastered the technical art of bio-technology, having started on a very hot and humid planet. While unlike the Olac who switched to bio-technology as a means to evade a debilitating disease, the utik mastered it for years, working off various symbiotic organisms. Their mech suits, or cyborg bodies you could say are symbiotic, as after their nervous and circulatory systems are linked, the pilot has full control of the suit, having it feed off waste material from the pilot. The suit then takes the waste, replenishes it, mixes it's own formula into it and feeds it back to the pilot. Like a plant, it gets a lot of energy off light and other forms of UV Retaining it for hours. These suits are suitable (ha) for open space, and lunar terran for a limited time. However proper measures are made to keep the suits tidy from "space dust" so no one goes out "naked" and risk exterior damage.
(quick sketch of utik 'pooters n screens. NOT ENTIRELY FINALIZED)
However, this isn't their true form. At least they didn't start off like this.
Way before, after they reached the ultimate feat in their development, their star was noticeably suffering, as it was predicted to eventually turn into black hole. While they had years 'till then, there wasn't enough time to perfect their original forms for the long-term space travel. So. as best they could, they learned to carefully strip and reduce themselves to nothing more than squishy muscle and brain matter, beforehand creating living space suits and sleeper pods to maintain what's left. Several ships shot into space just in time before their star went dark and each ship jumped in different directions hoping to find and terraform a new world. This group of utik weren't so lucky, as said before.
Now for the first half of the year, rakii and utik were on some tense terms. A lot of internal debates on who gets the moon. While utik were capable of defense, they weren't in a great position to, and the rakii weren't sure how to proceed with their first extraterrestrial contact. (Non-religious turned contact I'd guess???) UNTIL, one day it was brought ahead that, the utik secrete an anti-radiation slime. Something they came with naturally, just cranked to 10.
At first, the rakii thought to use this fluid as an applicable substance similar to sun-block, required to apply pre-spaceflight. However, it was revealed that they are extremely allergic to it. So skin-contact was a big no.
(Unfortunate rakii subject applying utik-based lotion. Results: swelling in skin, which can further cause blisters and splits)
After several trials, they came to a conclusion of using it as a gel layering in space suits, capable of absorbing radiation and protecting the wearer.
This discovery brought up a plan and a deal. It was agreed, rakii and utik would share the moon, making their first ever alliance, in exchange the utik would allow the rakii to harvest this anti-radiation goop off them, of course while exchanging knowledge, and resources.

Frans Week 2021 - Day 1: Flirt
So, I think I must explain this one: I searched flirt lines and find a site with flirt citations.
When I saw the ones Frisk and Sans are telling, I knew it was for them (the first being from Rakii Retondo, and from Victor Hugo for the second). But then, I came across the third one (from Janet Fitch) and it was too late.
It was just too perfect for UF (Ugly Fish), so I had to do it X'D
Also this is how I'd see Frisk grown up.
Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6 part 1 ; part 2 | Day 7

I’m studying to be a Japanese translator. (And Proofreader)
I wasn’t sure where I should post this, since I’ve been almost exclusively an art blog for a while now. I hope no one will mind this too much. As much as I love art, I would also like to have some backup plans and not rely too heavily on art to make an income.
This is something I’ve wanted to do seriously for a while, but I was never sure how to go about it, and have been trying to learn on my own time using whatever online dictionaries, videos, etc. that I can find. I’ve always been good at English grammar, but never really had anything to apply that to. Even If I’m not good enough to be the main translator, I would love to be an editor/proofreader.
I want to preface that this is not a word-for-word translation. I was trying to compromise between a literal translation and what flowed better in English. Although there are a few lines that I’m not confident on and would love another opinion on. I would love to at least be a step above Google Translate, so hopefully I’ve accomplished that!
This is a song that I’ve translated exclusively from Romaji. I couldn’t find any kanji translations, so I used Jisho and Google to make one myself. Any suggestions or corrections in the comments would be greatly appreciated!
Under the Sea, Kingdom Hearts II ver. (English)
The seaweed next-door seems greener to you
but going up to land would be a big mistake!
just have a good look around you, right here on the ocean floor
what a splendid world we have here! What more could you wish for?
It’s wonderful! Under the sea!
Darling, believe what I have to say!
Up there, all they do is work from dawn until evening
down here we’re lucky, the whole time we’re playing
Under the sea!
Down here, all the fish are happy
frolicking with the waves
up there, the fish are unhappy
in their small little fishtanks
but you see, they’ve still got it better
someday, someone will get hungry
and soon they’ll be on the plate! Uh oh!
It’s wonderful! Under the sea!
No one’s gonna use a knife or frypan on us!
up there we’re ingredients to cook
down here we’ve got no worries at all!
Everyday is delightful!
Under the sea! (it’s wonderful!)
Under the sea! (it’s wonderful!)
Singing and dancing, everyone’s happy
it’s a great feeling! (feeling so good, good, good!)
the various fish play their instruments
That’s why that is! You get it now?
Under the sea!
Over there’s a flute
right here’s a harp
The base line’s looking sharp
the brass is nice and the drums are all good
Just swing with the rhythm
You can do it if you just try! Come one! Get into the rhythm and sing along~
Do without those troubles of yours and let’s live it up!
Way to go! Yahoo~
Under the sea! (it’s wonderful)
Under the sea! (it’s wonderful)
This bright beguine rhythm is just for me (just for us)
humans got sand and more sand, we’ve got a stylish jazz band!
The snazzy Jazzman is always in session! It’s wonderful!
The cute dancers are shaking their frills! It’s wonderful!
we’re happy to choose the wild
that’s why it’s the best out in the ocean
nothings beats the sea life here!
Under the sea~

The relationship between rakii and animals is fairly utilitarian. If it's not useful, it's not worth the care, making having pets vastly unpopular. Some favored livestock mainly among the temperate regions are Bwree.
They are domesticated herbivories the rakii range for meat and the horn as they were useful for tool material and decoration. The brwee does are for meat and calves, which they can have up to three or four of. Brwee calves are born with a fluffy stripe patterned coat, which is useful for leather linings and insulation for boots and coats. And of course, meat. While Bwree may protect their young, the does are pretty r-selective as they will only feed and care for the strongest calves in her group. The average ditching 1 or 2 of their litter, which the rakii make use of.
And for the many they have, they use the help of tamed quabuas to herd them. Their hunting tactics and pack bonds became useful for the rakii around 15,000 years ago, so it's a fairly new development. However, wild quabua will often try to "test the pecking order" and tend to challenge the pack lead. Making them difficult as pets.

Like many creatives in 2020, the pandemic was a double-edged sword for Nick Rennie, Dustin Fritsche and Brett Julian – the co-founders of Alphington-based furniture studio, Oku Space.
On the one hand, it completely disrupted all the work they had lined up for the foreseeable future, and denied them access to their studio spaces for months at a time. On the other, it made them think about how they could work together.
The trio had been sharing the same workshop out the back of the Darebin business centre for years while working on separate projects: Nick on designs for his studio, Nick Rennie; Brett on cabinetry for residential and commercial clients; and Dustin on pieces for his brand, Softer Studio. But the upheavals of last year made them see what was right under their noses – plenty of Nick’s prototypes with nowhere to go, and two cabinet makers with manufacturing capacity but little work to get on with.
They pooled their resources and started Oku Space, which officially launched this week, with an impressive debut collection of eleven designs. Focussed entirely on timber, this first range of products spans everything from storage to seating. Of the elven designs, the OS1 Stacking Chair is a clear staple piece with its clean lines and versatile shape.
Among these everyday pieces like bedside units and dining tables sits a few non-traditional designs, including the Rakii coat rack and the Kooii cabinet – the latter of which you might recognise amongst the finalists in the Furniture Design category of last year’s TDF Design Awards!
‘We chose to focus on solid timber, to both make use of our expertise but also so that every element can be made by us in our factory in Melbourne,’ says Dustin, explaining the combination of traditional joining techniques with modern practices and tools they use to produce the finished products. ‘We try to be as efficient as possible, but there is also value in one person taking a piece from start to finish.’
By using responsibly sourced timber and local manufacturing to create their designs, the Oku Space ethos is naturally small footprint.
‘The idea that something has been designed and manufactured with a considered approach towards creating a beautiful, functional object, while using honest materials,’ says Dustin. ‘It’s this thinking that we hope resonates with people.’
The first collection of Oku Space designs is available to order now. See more here.

Mostar, Bosnien & Herzegowina | Ston, Kroatien Juli 2019 (Teil 2)
