     Jax watches the other as they drink their drink while sipping from his own every few seconds to get a nice hit of caffeine, a casual attitude about him all the while. The other Rocket intrigues him quite a bit; they seem quiet and worked to the bone all too often and he wonders just what they do exactly, pondering on it for a moment before he notices their glance.

     “Something on your mind?” He questions before looking into his mug. Eh, it’s tasted better he thinks, pursing his lips in brief distaste. “Ah, forgive my manners also. I do not even know your name, do I? If I do then I apologise for forgetting but my memory is not always reliable when it comes to knowing people in the workplace. My mind is usually on current projects.”

     In his usual lab coat with the uniform under it, he looks clean enough today and somewhat rested unlike the last time they met where he had been overly worked and had been taken with sympathy for the other who looked just as tired at the time. Seems they both work hard.

It would be so easy to give in. Just give up, let the human win. They were frustratingly strong of a trainer, frustratingly seemed to know all her moves. Even the Plasma Fist seemed to have little effect, their little simple eeveelutions dodging like it was nothing.

She was running out of power, running out of energy. Hadn’t slept soundly last night, hadn’t had lunch yet.

And here comes this simple human, challenging her in the middle of sunbathing. Suffice to say, Zera was not having a good day.

Unable to dodge yet another one of the Swift attacks, she roared. Teeth bared. Taking a knee. Just for a second. She was just so tired.

Mimsy hesitantly opens the door. They step in, shutting the door behind them.

They look uncomfortable.

but they step forward, placing a ball on his desk. a pokeball, shiny and new, but scuffed like it’s been dropped. It had a marker symbol on it, as well. teeth. sharp teeth.

“…”

Mimsy steps back again after giving him the ball, silent.

Giovanni tilts his head and picks up the pokeball. How unusual. Most of the time, it’s those two clods and their meowth who try to bribe him with pokemon. What could Mimsy have found for him?

“What is this? What’s in it?”

It was all a blur… They remembered BB (Their blue sylveon), frozen in panic as the attack barreled toward them.

They remembered regretting leaving Zuri in her ball, in their bag,

in the motel..

They remembered moving without thinking, taking the blow in the stead of their pokemon and feeling nothing for a good,

long few minutes.

And then the voice snapped them back, the feeling of warmth over their chest …

and the dawning realization of failure. They failed.

They failed ..

“I… sh-.. should.. be dead…” They croaked out, their voice almost as weak as their breathing but … noticeably emotionless.

“just… Kill me…” They failed. They failed…

Their breathing slowed as they definitely did not try to stay conscious. They were letting go, giving only a single glance toward the injured, but very alive, Sylveon lying nearby…

BB was too frightened to approach, but distressed by the state of his trainer.

Mimsy closed their eyes. They did not want to survive this, and deal with the shame of failure or the disappointed looks of their superiors should they return empty handed.

“Let you die so you can abandon your pokemon? I’ve always known humanity to be selfish but to be so selfish as to abandoned your team mates because you failed, Failed to capture a legendary, I’m thousands of years older you yet that’s some of most self-pitying bullshit i’ve ever heard!”

It made him angry, Frustrated, but he wasn’t just going to let the other die not on his watch. But...then again all he could do was heal the wounds, the damage, he couldn’t stop them from giving up, he couldn’t force it. Eyes turn to the sylveon that watches.

“You mustn’t fear me, I have no reason to attack you small sylveon, If your trainer is so intent on giving up. This may be the last time you get to see them so do it now or never.”
