Literatura: Carry On (2015)

No hace mucho hubo aquí un posteo sobre varios libros interesantes con protagonistas LGTBQ que te pueden atrapar y ésta, la obra de Rainbow Rowell, estaba incluida en la nómina. Aquí llegó la hora de ofrecer una breve reseña para que, en el caso de que aún no lo conozcas, te hagas una idea de lo que te espera (que es muy bueno) al leer esta novela.

Puede que Harry Potter se convierta en una constante en tu memoria mientras recorres estas páginas porque tiene varias cosas en común (por ejemplo: el hecho de que el protagonista, Simon Snow, sea un mago que asiste desde sus once años a la escuela de magia de Watford, regida por alguien a quien llaman "El Hechicero", respetado por muchos y detestado por otros). Por lo tanto, te recomiendo que te olvides de todo lo que la historia pergeñada por J.K. Rowling te cuenta sobre el mundo mágico. Esto es otra cosa. El lenguaje es más llano (palabrotas incluidas), la tecnología de los Normales (los que no tienen magia) es aceptada y de uso corriente por los seres mágicos y el enemigo a vencer se llama Humdrum, un ente poderoso similar en apariencia al propio Simon.

Inicialmente concebido como el personaje ficticio de un fanfic escrito por otro personaje ficticio (Cath, proveniente de la novela "Fangirl", de Rainbow Rowell), Simon Snow Salisbury es el mago más poderoso que jamás haya existido. A sus diecisiete años, ya tiene una novia (Agatha, que luego formaría pareja con otra chica), una mejor amiga (Penélope) y hasta un enemigo mortal, el apuesto vampiro Tyrannus Basilton "Baz" Grimm Pitch, miembro de una aristocrática familia mágica e hijo de la (¿asesinada?) anterior directora del Watford. Simon y Baz conforman una enemistad mortal que tiene su tregua cuando el fantasma de Natasha, madre del vampiro, se presenta para pedir el esclarecimiento de su muerte. El tiempo confirmará entre ambos una relación que parecía imposible, pero que el mundo mágico necesita para vencer al Humdrum y a otras grandes amenazas.
