When I was remaking the Rainbowfic prompt list headers, I used the Gilbert Baker flag for the one queer list we currently have (called "rainbow")

I have three more queer lists to get up and I stayed with the theme, color-picking from the original flag. They'll be "queer magic" (turquoise), "living proud red", and "spirit purple"

(we have A LOT of lists, so finding names for them is getting tricky - we already have glitter, lavender and several variations, and carnation green for Oscar Wilde)

... I should make a Sappho list now that I think of it. I have one Sappho quote on one of the upcoming queer lists

Yesora's Grammar

Name: Yesora's Grammar Word Count: 6348 Rating: T Warnings: Implied violence, non-detailed description of serious injuries Characters: Yesora, her family and contemporaries, Tyäqe, and Faiyule In-Universe Date: Year -36 (before the Gift) Summary: Priestesses from the future arrive with the Grammar of a new language, disrupting Yesora's religious practice and way of life. Notes: Not the document on Github, this is a side-story about Yesora's Grammar, and the changes it made to religious practice, why the priesthood is all female, and where a number of the conventions that are present in Setsiana's day came from (as well as the origin of the word that's being translated as "priestess"). I wanted to wait to post this until after introducing the Egalitarian heresy, for I hope obvious reasons.

First Monday of the month (and year) so, here we go!

And also throwing in an Open Question Night, as usual--my askbox is always open, but tonight I'll be keeping an eye on it. Anything I've posted about here or on AO3 is fair game. I do take prompts, but no promises on how quickly I'll fill them, lol.

This past year was a pretty slow year for me, writing-wise, so I'm not going to so much do a retrospective, haha (though I will check back on my resolutions from last year, of which I think I met zero).

But some things (outside of Formal Resolutions, which are coming below) that I'm planning to work on this coming year:

BSG

The Other Battlestar--I really really would like to get started posting it finally. I know I've been talking about it for like...two or three years now, since I started falling back into this fandom properly, lol.

Selkie AU/Backup Plans AU--I did some foundation stuff for these in Year of the OTP back in 2023, and I like them, and someday I'd like to revisit them (maybe for GBB? IDK; Backup Plans is probably out of scope, but maybe I could do something in the Selkie AU)

GBB--or alternatively I'll come back to Percussive Maintenance or The Blood of Angry Men, lol. We'll see.

Star Wars

SWBB is taking a hiatus this year, but even if it wasn't, I wouldn't be participating. I might do some one-shots, especially if that ends up being one of my matched fandoms for pod_together, and I really would like to get back into Precipice/Protectors at long last. Again, we'll see.

Les Mis

Picking up P&J and getting to Provenance; and actually getting enough down on Acheron to start posting. Those are my goals here, haha.

Original Fic

No real specific plans here, other than trying to post at least one thing to RF each month.

Other Fandoms

Well, the new WoT season is coming out in March, we'll see if it awakens anything in me (whether the BSG crossover I have partially sketched out, or some of the stuff with Taim and Logain I had in my head way back in the day...

Also at some point I will sit down and watch Castlevania: Nocturne; I'm not sure if I'll actually like it as much as the original series, but it'll probably get me back into working on Incinctus.

Also also, I do plan to do pod_together again this year, whether it's AtLA again or something else, we'll see. I don't have any current plans to revisit one of my longform fics that I have partially plotted out but it could happen.

And there's always the possibility that something new I stumble into will awaken something in me, but. These are much lower priority than the above.

Last, putting this in this section since it covers a few areas--I may or may not try to finish the 2023 Year of the OTP list, or start the 2025 one? Haven't decided yet. If I do start the 2025 list, IDK if it'll be five ships again, lol...that was a lot.

Okay, I think that covers things! Time for Resolutions, haha

2024 Goals:

Get back into Precipice; post at least three chapters of Protectors and at least one Preludes one-shot. [Nope]

Write at least 10k of origfic content. [Nope]

Participate in at least two challenges/exchanges. This one I actually did! SWBB (which was like pulling teeth all the way through) and pod_together, plus I was a beta and ran GBB.

Start posting The Other Battlestar; complete P&J; and start or post at least one other non-challenge fic project. [nope]

Complete the Year of the OTP fills. [nope]

Bonus Goal: Write at least one holiday fic (Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Halloween, New Year’s, etc.) and post on the appropriate day [nope] Bonus Goal #2: Update origfic archives [nope] Bonus Goal #3: Post at least one AU Outline. [well I did start writing one? but never finished/posted it, haha...]

It's a victory. It's a victory. It is. The gates of fallen midnight are broken open. All that beautiful craftsmanship, carved oak and grey hornbeam bound in forged steel and crowned in bright gold, as rent and shattered as their maker's mutilated corpse, rotting over the arch. There's a voice in the back of Hanno's mind muttering that the first lord of midnight would have been more offended by the damage to his gates than by the desecration of his own body. It sounds a little like Guae, who, after all, would know. (It isn't.)

This is what happens when the question 'is the fix-it an inherently fannish genre, requiring a canon to be in dialogue with, or could one write an original fix-it?' collides with me mainlining Silmarillion fic for, uh, reasons. (The reasons are long but mostly boil down to LRP emotions and the fact that the red reality was first-age levels of fucked up.)

Because it's me, this somehow didn't manifest as LRP-fic or Silm-fic but a secret third thing which also acquired complicated diasporic language feelings (on purpose), vaguely heretical catholic vibes (probably inevitable), and gen-x nuclear winter anxiety (entirely unexpected).

So we have Waking the Dawn, a time-travel/time-loop fix-it which I feel gives me license to throw chronological order out of the window, in which Hannothferan, hope-named first scion of dawn, watched from the timelessness of death as his beloved absolutely lost his shit in grief and eventually died, and went 'fuck this noise, I'm going back to change things' and yelled at the powers-that-be until any will to stop him they might have had gave out. (It's probable they didn't even want to stop him anyway. He didn't actually stop to check.)

That was loop 1, and it went badly enough that he had to come back and admit to Guaeth that he couldn't fix it on his own. And this piece specifically (written to the RainbowFic prompt: Chrome 01: "When will the banners and the victory parades celebrate the day a better world was won?") belongs to loop 3, which is Hanno's 4th time around; Guaeth, Veron and Anaie's 3rd, and I think Laina's second, not that Veron, Anaie or Laina are in this piece.)
