IRCTC warns users against 'fake' IRCTC tourism website: All you must know
Current Affairs The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has warned the website (www.irctctour.com) is duping people with fraudulent transactions.
"The tourism portal is the website of IRCTC where the various tour packages and services of IRCTC are displayed," says the fake website, which copies the design and features of the genuine portal.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train fare to be around Rs 3,000, says official
General News The fare for the Mumbai- Ahmedabad bullet train would be around Rs 3,000, an official of the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) said on Thursday.
Of the total 1,380 hectares of land required for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail corridor, commonly known as the bullet train project, so far 622 hectares of land, which comes to around 45 per cent, has been acquired, the official said.

"Our land requirement for this entire project is 1,380 hectares, which includes private, government, forest and railway land (in Gujarat and Maharashtra). So far, we have acquired 622 hectares (45 per cent).
We are moving ahead keeping in mind the deadline of December 2023," Achal Khare, Managing Director of the NHSRCL, which is executing the project, told reporters."Upon completion, the bullet train will make 70 trips, 35 on each side between 6 am till 12 am. Mumbai and Howrah Rajdhani trains to travel at 160 kmph, reduce travel time
General News In a bid to reduce travel time, the Indian Railways, under its 100-day action plan, envisages increasing the speeds of trains on the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah routes at an investment of over Rs 13,500 crore, officials said.
A senior railway ministry official told IANS: "In a proposal approved by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, the Railways plans to increase the train speed to 160 kmh on the busy routes of Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah in the next four years."

By increasing the speeds on these busiest rail routes, the travel time between Delhi-Howrah and Delhi-Mumbai will be reduced to 12 hours and 10 hours, respectively, as compared to the current 17 hours and 15.5 hours, the official said. Currently, the maximum speed on these routes, which account for 30 per cent of passenger and 20 per cent of freight traffic, is 130 kmh.
The official said the proposal envisages that in the next 100 days, approval should be obtained for this project and the proposal is being sent to the Cabinet Committee for Economic Affairs (CCEA)...Read more.

Railofy to provide air ticket if you don't get a confirmed railway seat
Current Affairs Railofy, a Mumbai-based start-up, has launched India's first 'Waitlist and RAC Protection' service, aimed towards tackling the problems faced by the passengers travelling by trains after being put on the waiting list.
by using the Railofy app, or by visiting its website, a passenger can enter the PNR number of their ticket. The traveller also needs to pay a fee, which is determined according to each trip.

After this, Railofay keeps tracking the passenger's waiting list tickets. If the passenger's ticket is not confirmed until the last minute, the app provides a flight ticket to the passenger, at the same price as that of the train's.

Train rides get costlier from today: Here's by how much
Indian Railways News After five years, Indian Railways have increased passenger fares by 1 to 4 paisa across various classes. On the New Year's eve, the railways announced fare hike across its network, effective from today, that is January 1, 2020.
Which fares will get costlier? - Ordinary non-AC, non-suburban fares were increased by 1 paise per km of journey and in mail/express non-AC class, the hike will be 2 paisa per kilometre. On the other hand, for AC classes the fare hike will be 4 paisa per kilometre.

The fare hike is also applicable to premium trains such as Shatabdi, Rajdhani, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Mahamana, Gatimaan and other special trains.

Amit Shah flags off Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express; calls it gift for J&K
Current Affairs Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday flagged off the Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express from the New Delhi Railway Station and said it was a "big gift" for Jammu and Kashmir's development. Shah also said that Article 370 was the "biggest roadblock" in the state's development and within 10 years, it will be one of the most developed regions of the country.
"Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express is a big gift for Jammu and Kashmir's development and for promoting religious tourism," said Shah, who was accompanied by Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, Union Ministers Dr Jitendra Singh and Dr Harsh Vardhan.
