For Ala Mhigo

(Probable Stormblood Spoilers)

My personal head canon for Z'itlalli was that she and her part of the Z Tribe are from Ala Mhigo, specifically just south of Ala Ghiri in the Peaks. She was born right after the Empire invaded, so she never got to experience a free Ala Mhigo. Her Tribe managed to avoid most Imperial engagements, but it was inevitable. She lost her grandparents and her mother to the Imperials soon after the birth of her only brother. She was raised by her father and her aunts.

When Lalli was around 17/18 years old, the Imperials found where her Tribe had been hiding and attacked. Separated and suffering from a serious headwound, she stumbled around Ala Mhigo for days before collapsing somewhere near the boarder of the Black Shroud. She was eventually found by Twin Adder soldiers, and taken to Quarry Mill for treatment. Lacking a memory of Ala Mhigo, her Tribe, and most of her short life, she decided to take up adventuring make some coin, and that's when she found herself on a carriage heading to Gridania with the twins.

Memory loss is probably a bit of a cop out, but it's how I explain her having no knowledge of Ala Mhigo and its people until the events of Stormblood when the Echo began to reveal to her bits and pieces of her past. Some of her Tribe remains near Ala Ghiri, but her close family resides in Rhaglr's Reach where they're an active part of the Resistance. She had family that were both in the First of Rhalgr and some that were practicing Red Mages, which is why she has found herself being drawn to the two disciplines.

Kemono Jihen Chapter 97: Summary + Page-by-Page Translation

Welcome in 2025! Lotsa text in this one and little time on my side

Chapter 97: For your Sake

Summary

Starts with a flashback of Urabe, Thin and Kotaro where they drink in a bar on the latter joining Genji. Kotaro wonders if they’re the only ones but since Raiden and Mayo were still Highschoolers back then, Urabe didn’t invite them (to a bar)

Thin talks about research he’d do on zombies and if the others would kill him if he ever turned into one. Urabe says it’s better to kill youtself first before ever shooting at a friend. Back in the present, Urabe is still confronted by Kanetake and Kotaro keeps yelling at Urabe to shoot since that’s not really Kanetake anymore.

Another flashback to when Kotaro and Kabane were training Kaede together and Kotaro tells Kabane about his brother and what happened to him after he started investigating the Tokyo Police Department. Back to the present he admits thinking his brother has been dead for a while but he was still looking for him because of his dog Ellie which used to belong to Kanetake.

Mayo, despite admitting he wasn’t really sure what to do, tells them to catch Kanetake alive. Kon asks Urabe if he has the stuff he used on her 3 years ago that incapacitated her. (The stuff that works on Kemono with good noses). He denies, saying it’s not a lethal tool to which Kon tells him not to forget it next time. Kon readies her explosive blood and Urabe manages to hold him down while Kon damages legs and ankles. They manage to capture Kanetake.

Mikage, somewhat self conscious in their new body, runs into Kaidou who’s just receiving the news of Gaokong’s death and is not happy in the least. He can’t believe Gaokong would die but Mikage says it can since the Mamono-Cell weren’t perfected yet and that his research is a lot of trial-and-error. Kaidou tells him to leave because Mikage hasn’t been working on Kaiju for him.

Meanwhile, Shiki and Kabane enter Mikage’s room, find his notes, take photos and eventually find the virus although Kabane wonders why Kon and Urabe aren’t there yet. They grab the stuff and scram.

Switch to Inari and her cabinet with a meeting just starting. Inari is very busy so Nobimaru tells everyone to only report if something is really important. Ume is distressed that Yamabuki kight snitch on him and that this would lead to Kaidou unleashing his wrath on him.

Yamabuki does try to report on the weapon-delivery mission but Inari interrupts her immediately and tells Mikage to present their latest project the II-Radiotower, a Mamono with a mix of Foxweed, human female, and Inari genetic material with which the enthralling effect of the weed can be broadcasted via airwave to the last corners of Japan for full control. The project will be finished in a week after the II-Mamono starts parasitizing the Tokyo Skytree and, in the future, Inari wants these Towers everywhere in Japan.

She tells Raigo to end the isolation of Japan and states she wants to invite the American President (good luck, Trump) and other world leaders to share her vision of world peace by unifying everyone’s thoughts and minds. No missiles and stuff needed.

After the meeting, Mikage runs after Kaidou who’s pissy about Mikage prioritizing Inari’s orders and then modeling the II-Mamono with a reminiscence of King Kong which he feels is a jab at him. Mikage denies that and confesses that it is talking about Kaiju with Kaidou what they love most but Inari is also their benefactor.

Kaidou tells Mikage to decide and they pick Kaidou who then asks, since he’s the most important to Mikage, what they’ll do for him.

Shiki, Kabane, Kon, Urabe send the samples to Thin via Tanuki-Express and Thins says he’ll likely have the vaccine replicas in a week. Kabane thinks it’s too long and Shiki agrees and says that Inari and her crew won’t just be sitting around, especially after noticing what they did at the facilities.

Kabane says that he wants to talk to Mikage because he thinks Mikage is another “Kaede” who does bad things just because Kaidou tells him to. Shiki is critical and doesn’t want another “Kaede” in Yashima and they’d have to talk that over with Iyo anyway. He’s more set on seeing Akira right now who is still very distraught.

Mayu and Yamabuki are on a rooftop and Yamabuki is a little annoyed that Inari just cut her off like that. But in her opinion, the II-Tower is much better than anything Kaidou ever came up with and it also looks better. And the “cloning” could be used to create Mayu’s sparkly world and all Mayu needs to do is stay at her side.

Chapter ends with Mihai noticing that the internet access in Japan is back and all his work of creating an intranational social media was for naught (he calls himself the Elon Musk of Transylvania) He gets a call from Inugami who has the opportunity for it since Inari is happy at the moment. He tells Mihai that the preparations for his place to die are finished.

Thin: Let’s drink to the new brave warrior joining our team!

The concept behind it is based on the idea of ‘clones’ of Lady Inari. Lady Inari’s DNA has been mixed with coma and injected into the bodies of human females. An antenna function has been implemented as well. This will strengthen the control over people using airwaves rather than scent and allow Lady Inari’s messages to reach every corner of the country.

Raigo: HUH?

Inari: End the isolation (of Japan). I want to invite the President of the United States. And not just America but leaders of all countries will understand my vision through II. And my vision is “World Peace”. It’s about homogenization and getting everyone to think the same way.
