what is pocket lint and what would joining it entail ? :0

Ardbert's Left Pocket Lint is a small (18 person) FFXIV server run on gasoline and paint thinner where we basically just hang out and do content together

Pocket Lint has a mystery beginnings but it ended up becoming a server where we (the people in it) can run unsynced extremes/savages and normal/side content together without the expectations that PF brings, such as reading/understanding guides, parsing, doing specific tricks/skipping specific parts, etc. PL is basically a place where ''raider brain'' isnt allowed and instead we focus on bringing an enjoyable experience to running content where nobody feels left out/incapable of doing things.

Therefore our only two hard rules are as follows: - We do not allow any sort of advertising of static forming, raiding, etc. No "does anybody wanna come join my static?" or "does anybody wanna run [current savage tier that cant be unsynced]?". anything that happens in pocket lint should be done With the people in lint, and nobody should feel left out - we go into content prioritizing fun over optimzation, and dont allow others to put people down for their abilities in the game or to feel superior (no X legend btw type behavior, no ''you should switch to X job'', no ''pure essence no healer DR'' run type stuff. Everyone is allowed to play what they want how they want in content as long as theyre playing the game at all). We wanna have FUN

we also do lots of other stuff to encourage friendship and comradery. we play jackbox games and watch movies rogether and we have plans for stuff like:

in general pocket lint is (TO ME) the best ff14 server you can join. imo. we're also normal people who think Dawntrail was an amazing expansion, we're not weird about the twins, we're all LGBT adults and we're super friendly. hey, im sort of new to raids and you seem really knowledgeable on them... how did you get into raids? it seems so daunting...

this ask is literally years old (im clearing my inbox) so to whatever poor soul asked me this and never got an answer… i am so freaking sorry… BUT!

i’ve played basically all endgame content since vanilla on release, so for me i didn’t so much get into raids and such as much as just.. i was always there… sorry! i would highly recommend joining a raids discord such as [XL] Excelleration, [BAD] Afraid And Unskilled, [RA] Raid Academy, or [SG] Skein Gang, and doing some training/prog sessions. grab a dps build off [SC] Snowcrows website, watch a couple videos if you like, and just listen to whoever’s running the training and try your best. once you get your foot in the door with endgame content everything gets exponentially easier i promise. the number one thing you can do to help yourself though is to know the inside and out of your class of choice— how it functions, your utility, a fluid rotation, etc; and if you understand that plus gw2 encounter design you will be able to blindly succeed in pretty much anything

the gw2 playerbase is kind of a bell curve of personalities btw, in which solo casual players are super chill, mid level meta players are the most toxic saltridden people on reddit, and then hardcore endgamers are pretty chill. most people who play a lot of endgame enjoy inducting new players into it (i definitely do!!!). everyone is capable of raids/strikes/whatever it’s simply a matter of you giving it a go and finding those resources to help you get there :)

Auraugust 9- Journey

sometimes, the best way to measure a journey is to take a look back at where it all began. it was only about a year and a half ago, but in some respects it feels like a lifetime. the relic grind didn't help that.

in that time I went from stumbling around limsa thinking bronze armor was the shit to eagerly chomping at the bit for dawntrail's release, hoping to try progging savage raids on-patch for the first time ever. ffxiv's been a rollercoaster so far, and I can't wait to see where it goes from here.

Savage Prog Diary - P12S

May 16 - took us the first half of the raid to get through part 1 today, but we got some decent pulls on part 2! we had three caloric 1 wipes, three classical 2 wipes, and three caloric 2 wipes. Yes, you read that right - dipshit brigade had a clean pangenesis every time we got to it tonight. WE ARE SO BACK

(okay so one of the classical 2 wipes was technically a back half of pangenesis wipe bc the slimes killed the main tank and the 2nd half of the tankbuster killed the raid but shh thats the fine print)

in one of the classical 2 oopsies, i started going to my starting BPOG position but my partner didn't, and as our tether stretched out i panicked and ran back toward him, and everything went sideways. my raid mantra for next week is "die in the right place." even if you're dead, at least you can be confident you weren't the one who hecked up!

anyway, our best pull had the boss at 22%.

Transistor: This is a beautiful game, it has a wonderful story and, a lovely soundtrack, a must-play if you love Supergiant games.

Clerks: Kevin Smith is one of my favorite directors, and Clerks is my all-time favorite comedy.

The Raid 2: If you loved the Raid, then you owe it to yourself to watch the Raid 2, it's just the Raid with a story, and it's fantastic!

Rocky: There are a lot of Rocky films, counting Creed as well, but nothing tops the first Rocky movie, the best top-to-bottom film in the series.

Porco Rosso: Everyone loves Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle, and they are right to do some, Miyazaki is one of the GOATs for a reason. But in my eyes, his best film is Porco Rosso. The landscape shots showcase his love of the Adriatic and Italy, the characters are lovely, and the dub, oh my goodness Michael Keaton as Porco is *chef's kiss*

Treasure Planet: Peak Disney movie, hyper fixated on it as a kid, and still love it to this day.

BECK Mongolian Chop Squad: This is the quintessential HAUNT anime. Very down-to-earth, simple but engaging story about someone finding their place in the world. In Beck's case, it's Koiyuki becoming this amazing singer/rhythm guitarist, and helping Beck become a premiere band in Japan.

Gurren Lagann: It's mother fuckin Gurren Lagann man, go watch it.

Steins;Gate: The group chat between me and some of my closest homies is called Future Gadget Labs NA, if that doesn't tell you how much this show brought me and my friends together, then I don't know what else to tell you. Never played the VN but the Anime was great!

Samurai Champloo: Life-changing anime, changed my whole perspective on music and my relationship to it. Helps that the show is GAS, with one of the hardest dubs out there.

Eden of the East: Just a straight up solid show with some good movies attached to it.

FFXIV Write Day 11

I started playing this game at the end of 2017, but I didn’t start progging ex trials until 2020, and only dipped my toes into savage raids starting in 2022. Erichthonios was a very approachable introduction to raiding, and I ended up clearing that fight along with the Hippokampos in that tier. I had a decent time with it, all things considered. Later, things got weird. 

I need to let readers know that I don’t consider myself a very strong player of FFXIV. I spent a lot of time getting a tank, healer, melee, phys. ranged, and caster to max level, but that was honestly more because I wanted to experience all the role quests than any strong desire to play multiple roles. I don’t practice on striking dummies nearly enough and though I’ve been playing reaper in prog for P9S and P10S, I still don’t know the theory behind how to do my 2 minutes (I doubt the people I raid with will see this but just in case–consider this public accountability before raid night on Wednesday). 

So, if I’m not a particularly strong player, why do I choose to launch myself at this high-end content over and over again? It’s a few different things, honestly. First, my partner plays at a really high level and I want to play with them sometimes. Second, I actually don’t hate learning, and the feeling of going from “wtf I understand none of this” to being able to execute mechanics properly is a bit of a rush. Third, it’s a social thing for me. I’d really like to be part of the greater “savage raid” community and have things to talk about with other people who play this game. 

Now we’ve arrived at almost the present. After half-heartedly clearing the Carbuncle and Hegemone savage fights in Abyssos in the couple of weeks before the new patch, I vowed that Anabeseios would be different. I would prog to the best of my ability, starting on week 1. And this is how I found myself in P9S for 7 hours on a Tuesday with a couple of friends and a bunch of party finder people, unable to wrap my head around Levinstrike, and crumbling into one of the worst panic attacks I’ve ever had.

I’d like to tell you that after that panic attack, things got better, and they did. Eventually. However, in the time between when I started P9S and when I cleared it, there was a span of a couple of months, dotted by early attempts to learn Levinstrike which ended in my choking my way through tears with my mic muted. These bad experiences compound on each other, making me scared before each raid night. Kind of like the saying “once bitten, twice shy.” I started taking my anxiety medication before raid time. 

My partner and I joined a group that was starting fresh on P9S. We cleared that, and then we cleared P10S, and now we have to do reclears and work on P11S. And it’s strange, somewhere in there I stopped sweating profusely upon simply sitting down at my keyboard. I don’t even need the anxiety medication anymore. I’m not very good at DPS and I learn mechanics slowly, but it’s rewarding to work on things with a team. 

I’m honestly still not sure if savage raiding is worth it for me, if I will be up for the next tier. But what I can say is that some anxiety-inducing situations can be worked through with therapy, medication, and the support of friends. Even if I don’t raid in the times of Dawntrail, I’ll take that lesson with me.

Snorks has been progging EC, we're trying to clear Kephess so we can try for timer

we've normally been able to get to Kephess pretty easily, but

things have been desync-y AF the last two days during raid time???

we never have issues with Minefield, but got stuck on it both nights for the following reasons:

-circles not appearing when we reached Vorgath, and they'd one-shot people

-invisible assassin droids

-I run tower for that team so I don't have The Best view of what's happening on the minefield, but it looked like assassins were acting weird in general on a few pulls

-multiple freezes/disconnects and my sound deciding not to work. Daph and I froze at the same time tonight and both had to restart, our healer DC'ed mid-pull, a few of us had to alt+f4 because it was so bad

-TWO PROBE DROIDS SPAWNING AT THE SAME TIME?????? they proceeded to ping-pong the group between them before murdering them. we asked a bunch of people and none of them have ever seen that happen in ANY mode

-we had a bad pattern at one point so I called to stuck it. I jumped down from the tower into the minefield and got yeeted back up into the tower. I proceeded to be bugged out for everyone for the entirety of the next pull (floating way up in the air before sinking into the ground constantly). we figured it was because the elevator came up under my dead body and moved me, and I think it caused issues with healers being able to hit me because I felt like I was mostly only getting AOE heals for that pull

-Vorgath ignoring tanks even after taunts went out - we know he has a threat-drop mechanic, but he was ignoring us ENTIRELY for one pull and was killing everyone else

there's others, but those are the ones I remember off the top of my head. wth

First Encounter

I was pondering what a good first post would be for a bit; one of my in game screenshots, maybe some thoughts on a recent game i'm playing or my current savage tier prog. But, i figured the best one will just be to say hello on this blog. Hi, I'm Alice. A british trans person (they/them/she/her) that enjoys video games and music maybe a little too much. I play a lot of Final Fantasy XIV, sometimes achivement hunting, sometimes raiding, sometimes Gposing but just generally enjoying the game when i'm on :D. Rhythm games are my favorite genre of any. Project DIva: Mega Mix+ being my main game atm, though i am trying to get used to the likes of Muse Dash and SpinRhythm xD which are both amazingly fun games just with different controls that makes them a whole new learning experience, which is really fun. In the past i have had a Tumblr account, but that was 6-8 years ago now. So i figured this would be a nice fresh start and i'll leave that one as a very disturbing time capsule of my younger self. Was a decent read to go back throught overall though. The people I brought into that team were messaging me the whole time liek “you heard anything from tech or glimpse?” And I was like as far as I know tech realm transferred half through last season bc he hates every single officer from the Jawn we’re in now so he not coming back but we could prob join whatever team he ends up on in new expansion, and glimpse said he’d be back this season but didn’t log in once, but def messaged him that second to tell him to get his bitch ass swamp ass back online…. Miss him roasting everyone, but comfortable with my team now they’re jsut not as fun as past groups I’ve been in tbh they’re just too nice and inclusive, but the raid lead is prob one of the best I’ve ever grouped under he’s jsut too kind to people that actually suck at the game and shouldn’t be in mythic prog groups. Like I def believe in giving people a chance to grow and get better but when they’ve proven over multiple seasons that they’ll never get better and hold the entire team back you lowkey need to kick them instead of making it the rest of the teams responsibility to carry them….

Savage Prog Diary - P12S

February 29 - raiding on leap day!

For the most part we had a lot of silliness, discussion of which final fantasy is the best (including ff7 rebirth discussion while our samurai put his fingers in his ears bc he hasn't gotten to play yet), bad jokes, and wiping to paradeigma 3. we only saw our prog point (limit cut) a handful of times, and each time wiped to it pretty quickly.

but....

on the last pull of the night....

we got to superchain theory..... TWO!!!!!

(well we only got there bc phil put all his mit on the post limit cut body check and then he promptly got obliterated but still!!! that's prog babey!!!!)

toasty x MC ffxiv HCs

i haven’t made a tumblr post in years but i’m gonna write some ffxiv-centric HCs about blooming panic (and specifically toasty) bc SOMEONE has to. end game ffxiv references ahoy

he mains ast in raids but can play nin almost as well. they like jobs with intense burst windows followed by some breathing room until the next minute window comes up. they started as a bard, tho

they regularly bunny themselves in the middle of limsa

they used to be a fanta addict, but they’ve stuck w male viera since it released.

if MC is new to ffxiv, they’ll play pld in for their first time in duties. if he sees them standing in an AOE or not doing a mech, he’ll put intervention on them so he can take the damage for them

if MC starts as a tank, he’ll instead make sure that MC never dies during pulls. they make sure you know how to rotate your mitigation during pulls and that you always feel comfortable wall to wall pulling. final pull of mt. gulg go brrrrrrr

hell, if MC starts as a dps they’ll do their best to learn the job themselves so MC can ask them questions about the proper rotation

once MC has their bearings, he’ll play ast w them and spoil them w card buffs. it gets to a point where they reflexively give MC the cards w/o even looking at who it’s meant for. if MC raids w them, they have to focus on not giving MC all the cards

first time MC does praetorium, toasty is there mimicking all the cutscenes while they happen. SUCH DEVASTATION WAS NOT MY INTENTION

as soon as MC finishes ARR, they solo some ARR extremes w them so you have some shiny horse mounts to ride around on

if MC already played ffxiv, once toasty calms down from their excitement, they try to see if MC would ever raid w them. couples who prog UCOB together stay together owo

they do their best to show that they love MC not bc they play ffxiv, but that it's just a fantastic side benefit

honestly they’re excited to have someone to do dailies w. whomst amongst us doesn’t have a semi-inactive FC between patches

during weekly raid reclear night, MC will randomly message them “you’re cute” to try and fluster him mid-pull. this frequently succeeds and toasty’s static teases them relentlessly about it

MC knows better than to distract toasty during raid prog (gotta work for the clear!!), but sometimes they sneak up on him from behind while they afk in limsa to hug him and kiss his cheek

they joke about getting matching in-game names so often that MC doesn’t know if it’s a joke or not anymore

between patches, they sometimes play other MMOs like guild wars or ESO between patches, but they always return back to ffxiv. xyx tries to get them to play runescape to no avail

they joke that they were the inspiration for hythlodaeus’s hair. MC will try to make them jealous by saying how pretty zenos’s hair is

every so often, they gift MC random glams or mounts from the mogstation. what’s that? MC appreciated a random glam set on someone in limsa? it’s their’s. god they’re pretty.

also they’d play on primal and i cannot be convinced otherwise

i haven’t played an otome game in years and i played this one bc i play ffxiv. truly incredible shit. u cowards need to add “flow” from ffxiv to all ur toasty playlists. or maybe the sephirot theme to mix it up. tyfp o7
