I've been trying to get this timer for A While - Snorks decided to go to EC after we kept struggling on Styrak, but Esseles Prog got it tonight! ahhhhhh I'm So happy???

Trying to puzzle out the layout of the 4077 is like when Starfleet was going to infect the Borg with an impossible shape, the more you think about it, the less sense it makes and it WILL drive you crazy.

The soundstage set doesn't match the ranch set. Places appear in one episode then are gone forever. How many nurses tents are there, anyway? There's a supply shed but also a supply room and they may be the same place but maybe not. No matter how you try to slot them together, there's no way for the locations we see in the hospital building to fit.

Putting a cut because this got much longer than I inteded.

Here is an incredibly rare view from Father's Day, showing the doors in the office that supposedly lead to pre-op. You can see the white curtains through them, and at the end of the scene they exit through them because wounded are arriving. So when they're carrying litters, they have to come into the office, then make an awkward turn through a second set of doors? And we never see them trundling through, even though that would have made a great scene. Imagine one of those many scenes of Radar on the phone desperately trying to get supplies or whatever, only punctuated with a steam of hurt people being rushed through.

OK, and the plot thickens.

This is from A Full Rich Day, where you can see them carrying litters through a door marked "Pre-Op Ward". You can see white curtains throught it. Only that's at the opposite end of the builiding to the office and those double doors from the last image. We know that door has to be to post-op.

And in the same episode, here's that corridor outside OR we see frequently. Note the door to the left and the double doors at the end. We often see people walking up and down this corridor too, suggesting it leads somewhere.

There's that weird area beyond which we never get a good look (to my recollection anyway).

I think this room just inside the door is the same place? But that suggest that door is parallel with the door to OR, which can't be!

To add further confusion:

This scene from Point of View takes place in that room off the side of the corrior outside OR. You can see the same set of double doors. This is labelled as pre-op. The POV character is carried in from somewhere to the left of this room. And other characters enter and exit this way! Through what means?! Is there yet another door?

As well as the rooms we see regularly, there's also the x-ray room, possibly a supply room, a nurses changing room and a lab. How do they fit?!!!

This doesn't even cover the vanishing library, the number of tents vs the number of personnel or wherever the garbage dump and motor pool are supposed to be. And the minefield!

Conclusion: M*A*S*H 4077 is not only trapped in a time-loop. It is also an eldtrich location. It does not obey the normal laws of space-time. You may walk out of a tent and find yourself in the office with no knowledge of how you got there. Oliver and Ugly John and all those other characters who disappeared without a trace? They were unfortunate enough to be in the library when it dematerialised, which erased them from existance

the only memory santiago has of his family is os his siblings running through a green pasture; he can remember the soft feeling of his mother's lap underneath his cheek, and the way her fingers ran through his hair. the sound of little children laughing haunts his dreams, but there's not a single face in sight. the people in his memory are nothing but blurred sillouettes, ghosts of people he once knew, of the child he once was. the orphanage, though, of that his memories are crystal clear: the beating, the fear, the hope that somebody would come and rescue him, and then the subsequently disapointment once he grew old enough to understand that nobody would. and then, nanuvut. the cold was somehow worse than the beatings, worse than the physical training that took and took and took from him until santi was nothing but a shell of the smiley kid he'd once been. killing is all that he knows, but santiago has never been at peace with it. he's familiar with death, has given it his entire life and soul, but it has never been something he enjoyed, something he got used to it. despite all the training, his handlers have never been able to supress his kind soul and gentle ways— nature vs. nurture, santiago being the living proof that there are some things nothing can ever truly change. all he wants is some peace and quiet, a life away from all of the decay and violence; a herb garden far away from the city, a sunlit kitchen and a big library to ruffle through. his dreams of tranquility have yet to come: when all you know is the underbelly of chaos, the rotten people and monsters, no other place feels like home.

. * recent years !

santiago tried leaving; at twenty-three, he tried to hang up his guns and become a regular, law-abiding citizen. and he didsurprisingly well. santiago went as far as graduating college, a major in psychology, and those were the best four years of his life. he partied, and he fell in love, and for the first time since he could remember, santi felt truly free. like he could finally be himself, like the blood on his hands had finally washed away. he settled down, and married a nice girl. his dreams of a suburbia life iwth white picket fences and a big slobbering dog were so close to become a reality he could barely believe it. a month after his marriage, another operative showed up. the operative -- probably a mercenary, santiago figured -- destroyed his home, tied his doe-eyed wife to a chair and ripped every single one of her nail before he got home from work. the message was clear: he was to return willingly to the red eye and fufill his purpose, or they would force his hand and the punishments for it would be devastating. his wife survived, but the trauma was too much. it ruined their marriage faster than anything else ever could, and santiago saw no other option but to return to his handlers with his tail between his legs. the corporeal punishments and risky missions were nothing compared to the feeling of falure, and santiago found solace in drowning himself in liquor, white lines and all sorts of chemicals that he could get his hands on. it started to affect his job, and santiago got slippery. more than once, the organization had to step in to prevent him from going to jail. considering his large death toll, santiago was giving a single chance: if he didn't get his act cleaned up, he could be terminated. as it turned out, santiago's destructive behavior was meant as self-sabotage, not as suicidal tendencies, and his self-preservation instincts took over. after a hellish period of going in and out of rehab, santiago has been somewhat clean; he hasn't exactly dropped the alcohol, though his black outs have stopped getting in the way of his work, and he's gone cold turkey on any narcotics. a functioning alcoholic, a friend called him once. it was good enough for the red eye, in the end.

a best friend ; the only person in the world that santi trusts. he's not one to give himself lighty, but this person has proven time and time again that they're his ride or die. ( 0 / 1 )

an ex ; ever since his marriage, santi has big issues with commitment. in his life of work, he knows having a partner is a weaklink, something people can use against you. they cared for each other deeply, but once things got started to get serious, santiago jumped ship, probably in the worst way possible. a protegé ; there's something about this person that just makes santiago's instincts bubble up. it's someone he'd kill and die to protect, and has been working on teaching them as many of his own skills as he possibly can. bonus points if this is someone that can handle their own better than he ever could, but he insists that they need help anyways. the enemy ; santiago has made many enemies along the way ; he's quite blunt, and despite not enjoying violence, he does resort to it whenever needed. they've probably come blow to blow at some point before, and it doesn't get better. ( 0 / 1 )

the bad influence ; santiago's a very strict, logical person. he doesn't do things on whims, and certainly doesn't partake in reckless behavior very often. this is someone with whom santi's first instinct is to be “well, what the hell!” and he’ll do things he normally wouldn’t, be that go to a rave late at night, do the hard drugs he's supposedly given up years ago or just eat that greasy bacon cheeseburger that might give him a heart attack. wooooo got a lot to catch up on lets do a quick recap. i will try my best to remember! aug 15 Thursday: I believe my grandma was in town and I was preparing for her arrival. I came home around midnight after our hangout. i woke up everyone in the house, but they were most likely awake when I came home from our lovely night rendevous. we took Marcus to volleyball, got pizza, and most likely had a love session. i also sent you gametime tickets to checkout padres padres vs tigers & 42 dugg lol. we decided on padres game bc we had a lot of fun the first time :) we gonna get you that margarita cup lol! aug 16 friday: while you were at work, I spent time with my grandma all day. i took her to the store and cemetery to visit her father in law and to handle some paperwork on her plot contracts. you decided to work overtime and pull a double shift. i think Friday was a stay at home kinda day after your long shift and my day with grandma.

aug 17 saturday: we both went to work and you pulled another double shift. i think again, it was another stay at home kinda day because you were getting off at around 9pm.

aug 18 sunday: i announce it's been a month since our staycation. you reply back with, I know baby I cant wait for the next trip we take together I love you so much :) I miss you. i respond with I miss you too - emoji with puppy glossy eyes. then, you tell me to meet you at the intl bathroom to see you rq at like 530 am! we were making plans for sept. i think it was your last day of working overtime shifts so another stay at home day.

aug 19 monday: after 3 days of not seeing each other, I believe you and I crashed out and we both agreed 3 days is our max of not seeing one another for that long. we planned to have a spontaneous rendevous. we went to la jolla shores until dusk. once it got dark, then we headed to ob for some luigis pizza. after luigi;s we went to sunset cliffs to make some love. i think I only got like 1 hour of sleep and I'm pretty sure I was late to work but I had fun and no regrets! i would do it again to spend another night with you.

aug 20 tuesday: we went to work and later in the evening we took marcus to volleyball.

aug 21 Wednesday: I dropped my mother and her BFF at the airport and we met up later in the evening most likely to get something to eat.

aug 22 thursday: our days off. i met your granddad in the afternoon, got thai food, and watched you play video games before we all left to take Marcus to volleyball early for once! i think i left after volleyball bc of trooper. omg bby we made love in your bed and I didn't finish so i was very feral for you.

aug 23 Friday: 3am i wanted you i needed you!!! made it to your house at 4am and we parked on the dark street. my car battery died so...triple a came and now I'm with you for 3 years. we est. Our relationship is now measured in car batteries. finally before 730 traffic got worse, I did make it home safely and you and I were knocked out! originally we were supposed to have brunch before noon but we didn't wake up until like afternoon. we went to the purple mint vegan asian food filet mignon and kung pao chicken. then you went to the beach to hangout with friends to plan jasmine 21st birthday.

aug 24 Saturday: 0824 Kobe day. we went to olive garden and ordered alfredo pasta lol. after olive garden we went to target to buy milk then went home.

aug 25 sunday: we went to your theaters to watch strange darling! we snuck in snacks from Walmart and wrapped them up in your tortilla blanket lol.

aug 26 monday: we didn't see each other bc I had to pick up my mother and her BFF from the airport and i was cleaning the house before their arrival.

aug 27th: we went to chopsticks and feng cha then departed ways so you can attend jasmine's birthday at the bar and coin-op :)

aug 28, 29, 30 - I will be in Hawaii so I will not see you but we will talk. i am grateful for you willing to pick me up and drop me off at the airport :) I cannot wait to see you again by.

i will miss you always and will think of you all the time. i love you, honestly. i will say this again, I really have never felt this way for anyone before. i hope we last for ever, a life time, a long time. thank you for being my sweet man. i am so truly lucky to have you!

our bookclub Sad Freaks review: your enjoying powerless bc its giving hunger game vibes but with magic powers. you're enjoying paedyn's chapters over kai's bc we both agree kai is downbad for pae and pae is talking real shit about survival in the competitions. Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters

🙈 Ik was het eerlijk gezegd een beetje vergeten, maar het geweldige Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters van Mike Grell is wel degelijk ook ooit in het Nederlands verschenen. Niet als aparte, eigen uitgave, maar wel een beetje verstopt in 'Thriller Magazine', de verzamelreeks met verschillende meer volwassen DC verhalen bij Baldakijn Boeken eind jaren '80.

Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters verscheen in de VS oorspronkelijk in 1987 bij DC Comics als driedelige miniserie. Het verhaal, geschreven en getekend door Mike Grell, betekende een keerpunt voor de held Green Arrow, alias Oliver Queen.

Tot 'The Longbow Hunters' werd Green Arrow vaak gezien als een tweederangs held. Een soort Batman met een pijl en boog en een luchtiger toon. Grell's interpretatie was echter radicaal anders. Hij plaatste Oliver Queen in een realistischer en grimmiger universum, waar de gevolgen van geweld tastbaar waren en goed en kwaad meer ambigu werden.

Het Verhaal

'The Longbow Hunters' speelt zich af in Seattle. Oliver Queen en zijn partner Dinah Lance (Black Canary) zijn nu van middelbare leeftijd. Oliver worstelt met zijn plaats in de wereld en de relevantie van zijn methoden in de strijd tegen criminaliteit.

Wanneer een seriemoordenaar genaamd de "Seattle Slasher" en een mysterieuze boogschutter op het toneel verschijnen, wordt Oliver in een complex web van geweld en vergelding getrokken. Het verhaal neemt een duistere wending wanneer Dinah wordt ontvoerd en gemarteld, wat leidt tot diepgaande veranderingen in haar karakter en de dynamiek van haar relatie met Oliver.

Thriller Magazine

Deze Green Arrow nam net als de andere personages in verhalen in Thriller Magazine bij Baldakijn Boeken afscheid van traditionele superheldenclichés. Naast The Question, Blackhawk en de Shadow zien we ook hier een meer aardse en realistische benadering.

Eigenlijk best jammer dat Baldakijn al dat ijzersterke materiaal in een 'anthology' reeks verzamelde. Zo viel het eigenlijk maar weinig op. Misschien was de keuze voor aparte albums, zoals eerder met Black Orchid en Watchmen wel was gedaan, beter geweest.

op this is beautifully explained and i hope you don’t mind if I add more analysis to it, because there are a number of other parallels and connections between Jane & Rochester’s love story, and Elain & Lucien’s love story.

• Mr. Rochester is injured in the fire that Bertha dies in, losing his vision and a hand trying to save her. He subsequently considers himself quite ugly and disfigured, which translates to what we could imagine as Lucien’s own insecurities over the scarring to his face and and loss of his eye (although we all think he’s devastatingly handsome).

“Am I hideous, Jane?"

“Very, sir; you always were, you know",

• When separated from Rochester following the first (failed) engagement Jane befriends two sisters Diana and Mary Rivers (revealed to be her cousins). This is not unlike how Elain has befriended Nuala and Cerridwen.

• It is during this time that she also meets St. John, and eventually rejects his proposal to marry him and leave to be a missionary with him (St John is devoutly religious). Along with StJohn’s proposal being one out of duty, Jane is a highly intuitive character and discovers that St John passionately loves Rosamund Oliver (so badly it scares him), who still loves him, but who he has rejected for complex reasons. St John and Rosamund Oliver also serve as a warning to Jane as to not pass up passion/devotion/love out of fear. This is perhaps reminiscent of the (now retconned) will-they-won’t-they unrequited love between Azriel and Mor. Of course a rejected mates scenario with Helion and the LoA would also be very fitting.

• While OP compares Jane and St. John’s relationship (and duty vs. love/passion) to that of Elain and Grayson’s, I think it is ultimately more fitting to consider that Azriel fits the role of St. John better. While there is some chemistry between Jane and St. John, they ultimately cannot be what the other person wants of them, and it is this realization that pushes Jane back towards Rochester. I believe the same could be said for Elain and Azriel. St. John’s marriage of duty reminds me terribly of the “three sisters three brothers” idea in its sentiments. It’s important to note that Jane maintains a friendly relationship with St. John even after rejecting his proposal, although he ultimately dies as a missionary abroad.

• Of note also, is the condition in which Jane returns to Rochester and marries him. In the time they were separated Jane grew immensely, both in confidence as a person, but also in stature, as during that time she inherited a great deal of money from a late uncle. Jane goes from a poor, orphaned governess, to a rich, independent heiress. She finds family in Diana and Mary Rivers (and St. John), who she shares her inheritance with. As much as possible of a female author in 1847 writing, Charlotte Brontë establishes Jane as Rochester’s equal. The separation serves not just for Jane to reconcile her desires and reconnect with her emotions, but for her to come into her own power, resolving a previous power imbalance between her and Rochester as governess and lord. (Mates are equally matched).

• I also wanted to touch briefly on the pearl symbolism. OP talks about how interesting it is that SJM has Lucien give Elain a pair of pearl earrings that she seemingly rejects like Jane left behind the pearl necklace Rochester had given her (symbolic of her status as his bride, and the wealth/riches he could have given her).

•Rochester actually wears the pearl necklace Jane left (although it is quite small, and thus is an uncomfortable pearl choker on him), a representation of his devotion to her. Only Jane is able to take it off.

• However I think we may see an inversion of this, with Elain having kept the gifts she has received from Lucien, including not just the pearl earrings, the gardening gloves, but also the coat, which he first put around her to protect and comfort her after she first came out of the cauldron. The revelation of this to Lucien could help reinforce to him that Elain cherishes and wants him (is devoted to him).

there are definitely more parallels that we could go back and forth forever on, and of course this is all my own interpretation not word of law but Jane & Rochester and Elain & Lucien forever.

Jane Eyre x Elucien Parallels (In-Depth Meta)

We've been told SJM loves the book Jane Eyre and we know that she has made some literary references to the novel in her own writing. For example, the most commonly known Elucien allusion is the one below:

Elain in ACOWAR:  “It felt… strange,” Elain breathed. “Like you pulled on a thread tied to a rib.”

Mr. Rochester in Jane Eyre: “I have a strange feeling with regard to you. As if I had a string somewhere under my left ribs, tightly knotted to a similar string in you. And if you were to leave I'm afraid that cord of communion would snap. And I have a notion that I'd take to bleeding inwardly. As for you, you'd forget me.”

This parallel is a HUGE clue. Now, let me explain why the story of Jane Eyre is very well a map for what Elucien's central themes are likely going to explore in their book.

Could SJM be using Jane Eyre as a model for Elain's character and hero journey? Yes, I do. Here is why.

Let me describe Jane in a nutshell for you: she was someone who came from a difficult and isolated childhood and who used her meekness and reserved nature to fit into circumstances. However, we learn she is a smart, witty, innocent, stubborn, and feminine female protagonist. Despite all the societal and religious pressures to marry a husband, Jane was insistent she would only marry for true love.

“I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will.” ― Jane in Jane Eyre “Shall I tend to my little garden forever?” When Nesta flinched, Elain said, “You can't have it both ways. You cannot resent my decision to lead a small, quiet life while also refusing to let me do anything greater.”

....when I was reflecting on that, I was hit with a wow that is Elain Archeron if I have ever seen anything.

Jane Eyre is a story of Fate, Love, and Autonomy. Just like Elucien.

Without getting too wordy, let me summarize a few things for folks who never read the novel.

The connection described between Jane and Rochester is one of fate. Jane and Rochester fall in love from the start because he treats her as equal, but their marriage is thwarted because Rochester is still married to Bertha Mason (the madwoman in his attic).

Even though she loves him, she has complicated feelings about marriage. She is afraid of the restraints and expectations that will be placed on her if she were to marry.

She leaves him for some time and they endure a long period of separation. In that time she meets St John who will also propose to her, but is meant to represent dutiful marriage without true love and warmth. St John was described as a cold love, whereas Rochester was described as fire.

Eventually, she realizes she wants true love above all else, and returns to Rochester. He has lost his wife by then and it is only then that they are free to finally marry and live together as equals in love.

OKAY. That is definitely an oversimplification but I needed to lay it out for our road map. Let's compare now.

Elain and Lucien shared a fated connection created by the Mother with their mating bond. We also know that a long period of their relationship is defined by their separation where Lucien goes to find Vassa and maintains his distance from Elain out of respect of her feelings.

We know Elain likely has complicated feelings about the bond. She says to Feyre, "I don't want a mate. I don't want a male." She is resisting the bond with Lucien. While we don't have her POV yet, I imagine it has to do with resisting something that she doesn't understand, that is taking away her autonomy in love, and influencing her fate for her.

Elain is likely also going to have two marriage prospects, just as Jane did. We know of her engagement to Graysen, who was described as "kind enough" by Nesta and later rejected her horribly. This marriage would have been similar to St John - one more out of duty for status and safety and marked by coldness. Whereas we have Lucien, with fire in his blood, and a warm personality, which is what Jane described true love to be like.

What is keeping Elain and Lucien apart? Bertha Mason.

Bertha, Rochester's wife and mad woman in the attic, was a symbol of Jane's suppressed emotions and inner conflict in regards to Jane's marriage to Mr. Rochester. She represented what Jane feared the most of traditional marriage at that time--becoming trapped and isolated and mad by the female expectations of society and religion.

It was only once Bertha was gone that they could have their Happily Ever After. (It's important to note she perished in a fire.) Her absence was a physical representation of Jane losing her reservations about marriage and fully becoming sure of herself in confidence, status, and her DECISION to pick to true love.

Which tells me that Elain will return and love Lucien only after her own reservations of the mating bond are addressed. Maybe fire will even be involved/symbolic burning of their obstacles (which would be so fitting for our fireling). I think there is also an added layer that Elain wants more from life than what is expected of her by the Inner Circle, which is hinted at throughout ACOSF.

SJM told us herself in an interview:

“I’m not going to say if I am exploring it in future books or not, but it definitely offers a wealth of things to explore with this concept of freewill and what is true love. Is it something that’s destined? Or is it something that you make? Is it both?”

If she is truly influenced by Jane Eyre, we know the answer. When it comes to Elucien, it's both.

Other Symbols of Jane Eyre in Elucien

A few more interesting parallels I found:

Mr. Rochester gifts Jane a pearl necklace upon his first proposal. Jane refuses to wear it and even leaves it behind. "I left that; it was not mine: it was the visionary bride’s who had melted in air." Notice she rejected not because she doesn't like Rochester or the gift itself, but because what it symbolizes. A bride.

Lucien gave Elain pearl earrings for Solstice. She could barely thank him and we never know if she wears it. I am going to infer that Elain rejects the gift (with silence and indifference) because she is terrified of what it represents...of her accepting the bond between them. I found it so interesting SJM chose to use pearls and have them react very similarly.

Jane Eyre is filled with literary symbols of Fire vs Ice, with fire representing passion and true love, and ice representing duty and cold love.

Lucien could very well be a living symbol of fiery, passionate love ("Autumn Court males have fire in their blood—and they fuck like it, too" anyone??) Graysen and Azriel could also be symbols of that "icy, cold" love in comparison to Lucien.

We also cannot forget that Mr. Rochester waited and waited for Jane to return. Just as Lucien is waiting for Elain to be ready.

In Conclusion...

Let me leave you with one more piece of evidence to convince you. In Jane Eyre, Jane says this of Rochester once she has finally decided to be with him:

"All my heart is yours, sir; it belongs to you; and with you it would remain, were fate to exile the rest of me from your presence forever.”

In ACOWAR, we have this moment between Elain and Graysen:

"I belong to no one. But my heart belongs to you.” Graysen’s face hardened. “I don’t want it.”

Elain will eventually realize her heart belongs to Lucien Vanserra. And he will give her the true love, peace, and happiness she has always wished for her entire life.

“When I sleep,” she murmured, “I can hear your heart beating through the stone.” She angled her head, as if the city view held some answer. “Can you hear mine?" He wasn’t sure if she truly meant to address him, but he said, “No, lady. I cannot.”

Lucien's heart already belongs to Elain. Likely since the moment their bond snapped, which is why she can hear his heart.

In their book, Elain will give her heart to Lucien, as it belongs to him. And has likely always belonged to him.

As far as the standings going into the playoffs are concerned, Carla earned the top spot as the sole double digit win team in ESPN. Nobody else in the playoffs had less than 8 wins except Taurean who is the only playoff team with a sub.500 record (6-8). He beat out Oliver in a tie break for the final playoff spot.

Matt of course earned a bye along with Carla. Laura hasn't made the playoffs since she won it all in her inaugural year (except last year's controversial in). She has something to prove along with Peter. Peter must win to reclaim his dominance he once had PRIOR to Matt's arrival. Taurean is looking to have as much success in this league as his co commish has in his (friendly rivalry). Johnny although winning plenty of times before, doesn't not have a ring in his league yet because of lost records. Will he right this wrong?

The playoffs set it as Commissioners face each other (Taurean vs Laura) as Johnny faces his old coworker Peter who is on a mission.

Taurean 💍 Laura "Commish Battle"

Taurean stayed tried and true with his guy the G.O.A.T. Brady who thankfully had the best game of late with a 3 TD performance. Earlier in the Sunday slate, his OP flex of Fields gave him an edge as Justin ran for his life in the Bears vs Eagles game. CMC got over 100 yards (pro bowl snub) and Lamb went ha. In the cowboys upset loss. A pretty good outing between the Sunday games overall. A few surprises on the bench saw Gage and Pat's D with 20 plus points each. They definitely could have been better than the Garrett Wilson and Cowboys Def slots as the bench outproduced both.

For Laura, things were looking rough for Burrow in the 1st half of the Bucs game. The 2nd half was a complete opposite flurry of offense that set Cool Joe on a 40 plus performance. Diggs got less than double digits in a snowy wild game against the fins but almost all of her starting roster put out great points. Kittle went off...on the bench. Lucky Laura had played Purdy in a desperation move that turned out well in that exchange. Lockett was solid but Elliot and Jacobs added stability to her point total. A big risk playing Taysum paid off as Schultz on Taureans play only garnered 2 points to Hills 24.

Laura basically has a sizeable lead by the end of Sunday. Taurean had AJ Dillon left. 2 TDs later on MNF brought it close nearing the end. It was sadly not enough to overcome Laura's consistent point stacking from her starting roster.

Taurean lost and was eliminated from the playoffs. Meanwhile, Laura advances in what mist have felt a statement victory.

Congratulations in order for Laura as she clings for the ring. Kudos to Taurean for making it this far 👏

Peter 💍 Johnny

Johnny made the most trades in any Core 4 league to make it as a wildcard in ESPN at 8-6. Some trades put him at a deficit early in the season especially at the QB position. Relying on Danny Dimes and Jimmy G most of the way. When Jimmy went down for injury, desperation seeped in. Trades and waiver adds ensued. By making sacrifices with RBs, Johnny acquired Davante, Chase, and Jefferson all in trades to play 3 top tier WRs since there was a low supply of quality/dependable QBs. Trades for QBs failed on each attempt. Can he win without utilizing the QB premium of a superfluous by substituting a WR?

Peter had inconsistent results even with stellar players. Injuries, matchups, and last minute game scripts made his journey to the playoffs a bumpy one. Nonetheless, his steadfast insistence on sticking with his drafted players netted him enough wins to make it to the postseason.

Peter couldn't use Deebo which put him at a disadvantage. He sat Kamara as he has been lackluster this season. Of course, Kamara goes off to have a better game for the season on his bench. Amari was cold rather than hot. Andrews, yet again, has regressed due to factors with the Ravens (lack of WR playmaker, insistence on the run, Lamar injury, etc). Despite this, a hail Mary play in Trevor and Cousins (both in stunning wins) had the game of the season each on his roster.

Regardless of the awesome WR trio Johnny had and decent game from Broncos Defense...it simply wasn't enough. He played Peter on the wrong week. It happens.

Congratulations inorder to Peter for going onto the next round and kudos to Johnny for making the playoffs with trades galore.

While Commish buddies Johnny and Taurean face off for 5th, the final four for round 2 of the playoffs is cemented.

The final 4 sees Laura against Matt. Carla off her bye, will take on Peter.

Could we have another all female superbowl? Will the 2 most dominant players in league history face off in an epic matchup (Peter & Matt)? Each player has extra motivation.

This is something I've definitely spent much less time thinking about, so I don't have much to say, and I could easily be missing something here. I honestly don't think the definition I wrote above would require any changes to the categories, though you could argue that some changes are a good idea.

Bizarre vs nonbizarre delusions, for example. For anyone who doesn't know, a bizarre delusion is about something that's not possible, and a nonbizarre definition is one that could possibly be true, but isn't. While this categorization system seems simple, there's a lot of beliefs where whether or not they're possible is subjective. If you don't believe me, go to literally any scientist and insist they determine with 100% certainty that something doesn't exist or isn't possible, and time how long it takes for them to lose their patience with you. I also personally don't see the point of making the distinction at all.

As for other categories, I think they can sometimes be helpful in explaining or understanding how those delusions tend to affect people. I personally find the category of somatic delusions (delusions about the body) helpful, since I've had a lot of those and didn't really understand some aspects of my experiences until I looked into that category. I've had things like phantom wings and claws as part of my delusions and I thought I was somehow having hallucinations despite, you know, not actually hallucinating those things. So in cases where delusional people find the categories helpful, I'm up for keeping them and maybe reworking definitions if necessary.

But like I said, this is sort of just off the top of my head. I don't think delusions need to be categorized, but I can recognize that some people will find value in that. If anyone else does have strong opinions about these categories, feel free to share them on this post.

I'm gonna take a stab at creating an alternate definition of the word delusion, since I'm not a fan of the one commonly used in a medical context. This is gonna deal with some unreality and paranoia-inducing stuff, so read at your own risk.

The definition most commonly used for delusion is a false belief that a person can't be persuaded isn't real or true, even if they're shown evidence to the contrary. This is a flawed definition for a number of reasons, chief among them that sometimes people are just wrong and stubborn about it. We know that it can be incredibly difficult for people to change their minds once they're personally invested in an idea, but that's not the same as being delusional. A person who still believes vaccines cause autism probably isn't delusional, they're just personally invested in the idea because it validates their view that autism is bad and gives them a scapegoat to blame for the existence of autistic people. That's an ideology, not a delusion.

Another flaw is that some things can't necessarily be confirmed to be untrue. One of the most well-known (and commonly mocked) delusions is some variation of "the government is spying on me". This isn't something that's easily verified as either true on untrue, and it's also something that literally does happen to people. I live in the US, where we know the government spies on people. We know that in the wake of 9/11, US intelligence agencies undertook a massive campaign of surveillance of Muslim and Middle Eastern people living in the US. So "the government is spying on me" might not actually be a false belief, and you probably can't know that for sure.

Attempting to rely on a belief being false can be dangerous, too. I remember reading the story of a person who was labelled as delusional for saying Obama followed them on Twitter, and was incarcerated in a psych ward until they lied and said they'd realized they were delusional and Obama didn't follow them. The thing is, he did. It was true and verifiable, but the medical professional evaluating them refused to check if it was true so they didn't "encourage the delusion". Sane people tend to believe they have an absolute and correct understand of reality, and a lot of them would rather call you delusional than adjust their worldview. And if that person is a medical professional, they can completely turn your life upside down and stick you in conditions that the UN has called torture.

So here's my proposed alternative: a delusion is an involuntary belief that isn't rooted in logic or evidence, and that a person can't stop believing even if they know it isn't true.

Let's break that down. The involuntary part is important. Delusional people don't have control over our delusions. We don't believe them because we want to or because we think they're true, we just believe them. It's true that delusions can draw on voluntary beliefs, including bigotry, but believing the delusion isn't a choice. We can't just stop. In the case of delusions rooted in bigotry, the person is still responsible for holding those bigoted beliefs in the first place, even though they don't have control of the delusion that came from them. This is an important caveat, because people love to call bigots delusional for things they chose to believe.

The second part is that it's not rooted in any kind of logic or evidence. If a person believes something untrue due to faulty logic and/or misinformation, that's not a delusion. That's called being wrong.

Lastly, I chose the wording "even if they know it's not true" very deliberately. Some delusional people know, either always or sometimes, that our delusions aren't real or true. I personally always know, but that never stops me believing them. If you've never experienced this, it can be hard to imagine what it feels like to know something isn't true and still be unable to stop believing in it. It's contradictory and confusing and really hard to put into words. Of course, there are also delusional people who don't know their delusions aren't true, or who're confused and can't figure it out. It's not the same for everyone. This part of the definition also covers being presented evidence and being unable to accept it as true.

For some people, being told their delusions aren't true can also be extremely distressing and even push them further into it. Never reality check a delusional person unless they ask you to, or it's part of a crisis plan you made with them. The same goes for playing into or confirming a delusion. Do your best to remain neutral on whether or not their belief is true, and try to focus more on their emotions and how it's affecting them. If you know a psychotic person, it's a good idea to ask them (preferably while they're not having a psychotic episode) how they'd like you to handle it.

I'm open to critique from other psychotic people, but if you're aggressive or mean I'll probably just ignore you. This is just an idea, a rough draft, and I'd like to know what the community thinks. Nonpsychotics can reblog, but keep your thoughts to yourself
