Jack was barely eighteen years old when he gambled his way into ownership of the Black Pearl, when he won her during a poker game he definitely didn't cheat on. It was love at first sight, she took his breath away with endless alcoves for tumbling with the women for rent and an abundance of rum, whisky and beer to keep him company once they left with his money. The pearl was his personal playground, where he could feel like a god and forfeit any consequences of the real world. He loved her, adored her, but he couldn't keep up with her endless need for maintenance, she was bleeding him dry of money and happiness with every burst pipe, customer complaint and production issue. Between the distillery and the Inn he was being driven mad with questions, making hard decisions and Barbossa's endless taunts of "you'll run her into the ground Jack". He wouldn't, he couldn't, he loved her to much to ever let another lay eyes on her. .. But he also loved gambling and that's where the tides turned. Snatched out of his hands when he was at his weakest, almost like Elizabeth was waiting in the shadows for Jack to beg for a lifeline. The pearl, his pride and joy, his happiness and misery. His greatest love and greatest heartbreak, fallen into the care of another right before his eyes. It made him sick, rotten and bitter to his core to watch Elizabeth Swann flaunt around waving her successes in his face, she didn't deserve the Black Pearl, she would never love and appreciate her the way Jack did. While Elizabeth thrives so publicly, treating her like a business and not a home it drives Jack demented. Its been almost ten years since his now still heart was ripped from his chest and revamped to attract tourism, and it still hurts just as much as it did when he signed the pearl over. Its been years but that doesn't mean he's ready to forgive or forget. One day he will win her back, not caring what or who it will cost him in the process.
