As I put together RAGE posts, I want to talk about some Panic in Ballville stuff for RAGE.
__________________
RAGE is filled with LOTS of symbolism, and symbolism is very prominent in RAGE’s PiB as some sections of PiB may foreshadow RAGE’s ending. PiB portrays its symbolism through colors and mythical creatures. One common mythical creature for PiB are dragons!
__________________
Here are 3 of PiB’s main dragons and dragon-like characters (ALTs provide brief descriptions):
(all 3 drawn by @orthodoxian-wonders)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These characters will appear frequently within the PiB segments, especially The Beast.
__________________
PiB overall contains lots of mythical creatures, and has a very different setting when compared to it’s appearance in OFF:
Ballville is a swamp/forest area. Though there are cities in this area, our characters reside in the rural area. Boxxer (who we named ‘Barley’) is a farmer who does boxing as a hobby. Barley and Daisy live a cottagecore-esque life and tend to their own and wild animals in the swamp. Ballman (who we named Rudy) resides in the prairie-like fields near these swamps. Rudy is solitary and lives a hidden life with his clones and some of the animals he captures. Rudy occasionally sells these mythical animals on the black market so he can gain money for creating clone machines and other gadgets. Barley has an issue with this underground black market which fuels the main Boxxer/Ballman conflict, but, this conflict roots down into a deeper story that even involves their childhoods.
…………
We decided to give PiB a name that corresponds it’s setting:
Panic in Ballville: Fern Marsh
__________________
Mythical/fantasy creatures that will appear in PiB:FM include:
-Dragons
-Phoenixes, Firebirds, and Thunderbirds
-Griffins
-Alicorns, Unicorns, Pegasi/Pegasuses
-Eleks (Elk/Fox hybrid) and Woleks (Elk/Wolf hybrid)
Eleks, Woleks, and Unicorns will be seen very often throughout PiB and some of these animals may be interactive in the game!
__________________
Again, big respects to @orthodoxian-wonders for being our artist for Panic in Ballville: Fern Marsh. He will be doing the art for all the segments to give PiB:FM that “Old childrens picture book” vibe.

Welcome!
Hello!
At Fazbear Entertainment, we always make sure to provide our values of family and fun. But, we also make sure to take to all feedback our customers give us. Now we're giving you an opportunity to be directly involved! That's right, I mean you!
A handy voting poll for all of our entertainers, books, toys, and video games will be created, and in a series of rounds, we will determine the de facto favorite of the Fazbear Family!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a bracket competition for FNAF characters! The majority of this list is from the Ultra Custom Night wiki as well as my own input. The rules are below.
To be featured in the competition, it must be an animatronic, prop, product, or character relating to the Fazbear brand in some way. This mean no humans (both player character and offscreen voices), no non Fazbear Ent robots, etc. Something like Sea Bonnies will get in, but Baron von Bear will not (due to being part of a ripoff Freddy's location). Humans in video games (8-bit, FIS) will also not be featured (a few Purple Guy variants will be featured due to being less human and more creature-like, ex Mini P).
Recolors and small changes will be featured separately so long as it's a very drastic change. For example, Toy Freddy in VR looks much different than his "real life" counterpart due to the more brown color instead of the orangey brown he normally has. See rule 6 below for more info.
Characters with only a voice or no full body will not be featured. There must at least be a head and torso on the character UNLESS there is significance for them just being a head (ex. Cupcake characters, Lolbit versions, prop parts in FNAF 3). This does not apply to books, since most just have descriptions to go off of. Instead, they must either A) Be named or B) Have a proper presence in the story.
Duplication of characters will be avoided as much as possible.
Only official FNAF games and products will be featured. No FNAF Fangames will be represented. The same applies to other games Scott produced (unless he crossed them over).
The merch I will be including from the main brands will be plushies. If a character does not have a plush version, it won't be featured (ex something like Glow Mr. Hippo). This is mainly to reduce the insane amount of variants Funko pops out. The only exception to this rule is the FNAF AR characters.
There are 868 characters. There will be 31 rounds, with 28 characters per round. After that, those characters will be put up against each other to determine the winner! Below is the list of what I'm pulling from.
FNAF 1
FNAF 2
i miss how fnaf was cool before scott went mask off raging asshole. there were so many fangames and songs and drawings and it was awesome. fangames are still happening but theres so much fucking drama around each one and the really good ones dont get enough attention because people are detached from fnaf now it really sucked to see the very people hes lobbying against enjoy something and then find out that the creator hates them. also the fangame initiative is weird why did they want scott's name on that after he was revealed to be Like That
February 2024 Devlog - A minor distraction (?)
This devlog was originally supposed to be about Gameknight999 Rebooted until my submission to a certain joke game contest on a certain Sonic fangame website ended up taking up most of my time this month. As such, I unfortunately couldn't get much done on GKR this month, but hey, I'll make sure to get some good stuff ready next time, alright?
Now that I have your attention, how about I tell a retrospective of my experience in that game jam? I can promise it will be worth it. (since this is not related to GK99R, it won't be tagged gk999fangame_devlogs like usual)
Context
Sonic Fan-Games HQ (SFGHQ) is the number one Sonic fangame website in the world for years by now, and is most well-known for it's yearly Sonic Amateur Game Expo (SAGExpo), an online E3-like dedicated not only to Sonic fangames, but also fangames of other IPs as well as indie games.
For a while now, SFGHQ has been regularly organizing Really Amateur Games Expo (RAGE), a side-event dedicated to Sonic joke games. Unlike the main event, RAGE is basically a game jam; people have 14 days to make a Sonic joke game following a given theme, and SAGE hosts livestream themselves playing through the games. For example, RAGE 2024's theme was "Sonic Mania 2", and the games were streamed by MotorRoach on February 17th.
I originally didn't intend to participate to that year's RAGE (I never even did a single Game Jam once in my entire life) until I rewatched past streams of Rummy (former SAGExpo host, very cool guy) playing old RAGE submissions. I told myself "god, it would be awesome if he laughed like that at MY game" and so I set off for my first RAGE, and first real game jam… 6 days late. Only 8 days left to make Sonic Mania 2 from scratch.
A troubled development
My submission was originally going to be called "Sonic Mania 2" until I actually started making the logo; at that time, I settled on the Mania soundalike "Majonga", for a full title of "Sonic Majonga". I later added the sub-title "The Trial" after rewatching the RAGE playthrough of Melpontro's INSANE 2019 submission, to imply that my game wasn't actually finished and only a trial version of a much larger thing yet to come.
From beginning to end, I had NOTHING even close to a project outline, and work was done in a real erratic order based on what I felt like working on: the title screen was ready before I even started working on the character controller, the last cutscene was done before the first, the second level was the last "scene" made from a chronological standpoint, etc.
This became a problem roughly three days before the deadline, when I ended up having pretty much everything ready, save from the actual levels. I had to rush things real hard to meet the deadline, and the level design for these levels more than suffered from it. At least, from other people's playthroughs, the levels took a balanced amount of time to clear; not too long, not too short. I still wish I had time to add more stuff in (springs, other varieties of enemies, speed shoes).
Gameplay mechanics
I'll get straight to the point here: I have no idea of how Sonic physics work, and can't even work with pre-made Sonic engines (Sonic Worlds, etc.). So, I decided to just not use Sonic physics at all, and make a regular platformer character controller. I am not the only one to do that by the way, "Sonic" games without the physics are commonplace at RAGE. I still ended up referencing this paradox in the actual submission through a non-functional, purely decorative loop with the text "imagine having functional loops in a RAGE game".
To compensate, I attempted to make the playables as unique as I could as well as add a touch of innovation there and there. Sonic's biggest changes revolved around the ground spin attack being replaced with the SA2 somersault attack. Due to a lack of time, I decided to make the drop dash and spin dash also go into a somersault. Knuckles cannot climb walls from a glide, but gets a dash punch, ground pound, and uppercut (now also usable mid-air as a makeshift double jump!). I also coded in small physics differences for each character, such as Knuckles having a lower top speed than Sonic.
The game's real big gameplay addition was Tails going from a semi-controllable CPU follower to a gun minigame; if playing as Sonic and Tails, the mouse will behave as a cowboy shooter minigame, where clicking around the screen can shoot down and destroy enemies and obstacles. You also have to handle an ammo gauge in the top-right, which can be reloaded at any time with right-click. There is also a hastly-implemented combo meter that's even programmed to not drain while mid-air, so you can theorically keep the same combo going for an entire stage with a bit of skillful movement.
Jokes galore
My number one objective for this game was to put a LOT of references and in-jokes. I often ended up naturally adding in jokes there and there while developing the game, so that wasn't really all that hard. Most infamously, it is filled to the brim with Scott Pilgrim jokes and references; most notable one is the title screen animation included the movie scene of Scott Pilgrim tying his shoes with Sonic's head edited in, and MotorRoach's chat went absolutely WILD when this part came on.
There's also various references to several past RAGE entries: These go from "Green Hill Man Man" from the eponymous RAGE 2018 submission ominously staring at you in G.Hill Act 1's background, or sprites of Cory in the House and Bradfordhound appearing inside the gold ring sprites (referencing Dankles' amazing Cory In The Ded 3.5 game). The one I am most proud of is the SEGA executive from 2022's "Operation Shadow Shoot" making a cameo at the end of the game, which prompted a reaction in chat from Rummy himself (who previously played Shadow Shoot at RAGE 2022 and lost his mind over it).
Other jokes were simply based on stuff I had in mind at that time. For example, the Sonic eyebrow face plastered all over the game was a Discord emoji I used for a lot of time, and the boss battle theme is the audio of "ytpmv elf", my favourite ytp of all times.
The future of the game
The game was streamed alongside other RAGE entries on February 17th at MotorRoach's twitch. In order to keep screentime even between all submission, MotorRoach couldn't showcase every piece of content that's available in the game during his playthrough (missing content include playable characters, alternate level routes, etc). So, even if you watched him play the game, there are still secrets waiting for you in there, including a big one that permanently (though subtly) alters your copy of the game.
One day after the full stream of the games, I was so proud of the game I decided to publish the game on itch.io ahead of RAGE's results, following the example of all my fellas on SFGHQ's discord. This was not only my first real game jam, but I also somewhat managed to accomplish my original goal: while Rummy wasn't the one playing the game, he still had a really positive reaction to it, and that's absolutely priceless to me.
I originally didn't really intend to update the game after the game jam (I thought I would just finish it, submit it, watch the reactions and never think about it again), but I had so much fun working on this and am really proud of what I had done, as flawed as it is. I genuinely want to keep working on this! First thing I will have to do though, is cleaning up and refractoring the engine (preferably from the ground up on a blank slate) as it was thrown together hastily with no regards toward working on a large scale.
This project won't have a major impact on my work on Gameknight999 Rebooted, as the latter remains obviously my main project; nonetheless, I still want to dedicate Majonga's future expansions a bit of my time, and will thus work on both projects side-by-side for the time being. Don't worry, GKR is still in the works, and I can say with certitude that I should have some nice stuff to show by next month!
Post closer
If you somehow read through all of this, I sincerly apologize for not adding any images. Otherwise, I don't really have a really good way of closing things out, but if you wanna try out the game while waiting for the next GKR devlog, it's available on itch.io right now!
The Defender Arc
SMG4 Plays Sonic Fangames (FT: Tari)
Exactly as the title implies! 4 plays Sonic fangames, and Tari joins him. The games are good, bad, cringey, and glitch a lot, but they have a lot of fun! Forum joins about towards the end, just saying that he wanted to check in on SMG4. He seems to not even notice Tari until she says hi, which he then says hello back. Odd, but not too noteworthy.
SMG3 and the No Good, Horrible Bad Day
SMG3 is.. just not having the best day. It's like Murphy's Law; "everything that can go wrong, will go wrong." Domain soon meets up with him a bit into the episode, just as SMG3 gets near squished by a falling anvil. Domain manages to pull him away, but he hovers over 3 a lot the rest of the episode, doing what he can to keep his son safe. It's mostly played off as him just being worried because of the strange bad luck, but some fans do notice that he's a bit more.. protective.
Stupid Mario And Luigi: Dream Team
Extremely loosely follows the plot of M&L: Dream Team, but with 4 and 3 added into the mix. The plot of Dream Team is followed, but with the usual SMG4 craziness mixed into it. By the end, they've defeated Boswer and all that, and Forum and Domain drop by. Forum is noticeably the more worried of the two, checking 4 over several times. His and Domain's reasoning being that Bowser was practically a god in that weird state, so of course they're worried. But still.. it doesn't really sit right with everyone.
Dad.. are you alright?
4 and 3 both come to the agreement that Domain and Forum are acting very strangely. They discuss it between themselves, noting how the two are intervening whenever it looks like the two are in danger. So, with Mario's help, they stage several scenarios where they could get hurt, and lo and behold, Domain or Forum appears every time. Neither answer any of the questions asking why they're so protective lately, instead simply leaving each time. The episode ends unresolved, as the USBs head back before answers can be given.
Back to the Dark Web!
SMG3 and SMG4 agree that they need to figure out what the hell is going on. Taking Mario and Lil Coding with them, they begin to explore and try to see if they can find answers in the Dark Web. Normal shenanigans ensue, but there's the lingering feeling that something is amiss. Towards the end of the episode.. a flash of code is shown, and cracks on Forum's and Domain's bodies can be seen. The defender command is active.
Kidnapped And Reseted?!
When everything goes to hell. The defender command has taken hold of Domain and Forum. The gang, when going to the Internet Graveyard, stumble across Domain's USB and see the line of code being input. They manage to escape, heading back to the showgrounds, but it doesn't last long. The defender command has taken hold of Forum and Domain, and they don't intend on leaving until they have the four. Mario makes a deal with them; they'll come willingly, but they have to leave the others out of it. The defenders agree.
The episode ends with Meggy and Shroomy bursting and seeing the room in dissary. Meggy can be seen beginning to cry before the episode ends..
A Totally Normal Mario Plays Flash Games
It's a totally normal Mario episode! He may be acting smarter than usual, not raging as much, and actually giving commentary, but that's normal! He's normal! He's not acting strange! He's safe, after all! :D
Totally.. Normal Pizza Cooking
Mario elects to try and cook some pizza. He and Lil Coding work together, with SMG4 and SMG3 popping in every once and a while. They seem.. somewhat normal. But they're clearly acting off. They aren't.. themselves. It's more noticeable in this episode, and we do get a glimpse of outside.
They're in a pocket dimension.
..Normal Smg4 Learns How To.. Meditate..
SMG4 has been having.. trouble with his code lately. It's glitching out, searing randomly, and he's ran into the strange paintings one too many times to count now. Forum, who we only see through shadows through the episode, tells SMG4 to try meditating. And he does! It works.. for the most part. But his code starts acting.. strange, towards the end. Trying to revert back. Trying to make him remember.
Normal.. Smg3 And The Vanishing Memes...
The episode where it's really hammered in just how reset these guys are. It was sprinkled throughout the others, but this is the episode where its laid out. Memes are vanishing from the Graveyard, and while he knows of the meme cycle, he thinks that everything is fine. In reality, due to the meme cycle being handled differently by SMG4 and SMG3 now, due to not having their memories.. the memes are pretty unhappy. But that doesn't constitute them leaving. As he searches, he finally get an actual glimpse of Domain, but the USB stops his son from investigating further. As the episode ends.. we see computer booting up and a familiar deity, half of her face illuminated by the screen and her smile that slowly grows.
Melony and The Quest
This focuses more on Melony and how she focuses on getting through to her four kidnapped friends. Using her skills, she's able to hack the command boxes of the SMGs and even get to Mario. Doing what she can, she tries to jog their memories and all that. It slowly begins to work, as she's able to gain their trust and slowly push forward truths that the defender command hasn't let them know. And then, bingo; she's able to pinpoint their location.
SMG4 MOVIE: INTRUDER ALERT.
Melony is able to find the pocket dimension, and with the help of Luigi, she's able to enter in. This, of course, doesn't go unnoticed by the Defenders. She's able to narrowly get out of there with the SMGs, Mario, and Lil Coding. The four of them are slowly remembering as they return to the showgrounds. It doesn't last long, unfortunately, as Forum and Domain soon enter. Melony does her best to hold them off, to buy everyone time to run, but it's no use.
Just as she grabbed and it seems like she's going to join Axol.. Forum and Domain manage to break through, just for a moment. They apologize to her, and tell her a code; Forum giving three numbers and Domain giving the other three. They say she'll know what it's for before Domain tosses her away, just as the defender command takes hold again. She, somehow, lands back with the group. Heavily bruised and battered, but still, she's alive.
As the other four slowly return to normal, its discussed what should be done. When Lil Coding brings up there's probably some sort of code that could stop the defender command, given how old it is, there should at last be that, right? Melony realizes; it's a shutdown code. With everyone working together, they manage to lure Domain and Forum to them and distract the two as Melony gets to work hacking them. She's nervous, she's afraid, but she pushes forward. And she pushes more and more, she becomes more and more resolved. She can do this. She knows she can.
And when she breaks through and is able to enter the code, deactivating the command.. she's relieved. Even more as Domain and Forum return to normal, thanking her. With Domain adding that maybe he'll take Melony under his wing to chuckles and giggles all around.
spoilers for deltatraveler section 2
Despite the fangame’s overall excellent quality, high effort and orchestrated emotional hits, Iiiii have some issues with the way the game handled it’s Earthbound content.
First off chronologically, is triggering Obliteration by killing the various robots in the valley, even using the no music spookiness of other evil routes. Those robots are Giygas’s minions, and in Earthbound, you do kill them. The Cute Lil’ UFO is described as being “destroyed” when defeated, along with the other robots. The aliens are “defeated”, but in story moments where they get to talk after being beaten, they quite clearly die just after from their wounds. Just about the only enemies that aren’t killed by the Heroes are humans and Earth animals because, fun fact, Earthbound is about a war, an alien invasion. It’s not a very fast-paced or desperate one, but every danger in the game, from the crazed animals to the zombies to the Mani Mani statue is caused by Giygas’ assault on Earth. The various enemies will literally beat the children into ghosts if they have the chance. Earthbound is no stranger to death, and never has a chance to examine how it all affects the heroes (beyond homesickness and melancholy (something the third game fixes)), and it’s weird that this game treats Earthbound with UTDR’s sensibilities about death and killing in defence.
The concession I’ll make is that it at least fits with the Deltarune characters, and the first meaningful kill of the snake is perfect because like, that’s just an animal, driven mad or not. They didn’t need to stomp it, the only purpose of that is to confirm cruelty, and in doing so it properly introduces the Obliteration route.
But the next part with the cultists - while I agree whole-heartedly that killing people would be traumatizing for the teens, and I understand that Genocide routes alway like to empty the map and induce a feeling of loneliness, but the Happy-Happyists wouldn’t retreat en masse after someone dies. The cult is controlled by the Mani Mani statue. They are lost in the illusory delusions provided by a psychic evil that is literally stronger than any one person’s influence, including the player’s. Happy Happy Village should’ve been a blood bath as the cultists refuse to let pass or give ground, driving the three into anguish as the Soul pushes them onwards.
And like, how are the devs going to handle this line of thinking with A Link to the Past? It’s not like Link befriends his enemies when he hits them with the sharp end of his sword. You can’t exactly start a Genocide route there and make it a dark, weird, or traumatic thing to be killing dead-eyed guards, jabbering, spike-adorned marauders, undead corpses, and unholy monsters. It’d just be a fantasy isekai played steel-straight.
Also, Toontown? Hm?? Death literally does not exist except for Cogs, and even that is debatable. It’s fucking Toontown. The Town of Toons. Inspired by the setting in Who Framed Roger Rabbit where the only way for a cartoon to die is to be dipped in paint thinner, sorry, “Dip”. A cartoon gets hit with an anvil dropped from 50 feet and they just walk around silly for a few seconds. They get shot with an actual gun and a ghostly version of them wearing a robe, a halo and a harp floats up to heaven for a few seconds before getting shoved back into their body. Donald has been sailing his dumb little boat for 20 years now, no food or water or rest, and only stopped because the private servers had to take him out for copyright reasons. They’d have to try EXTREMELY HARD to make Toontown evil and corrupted, or to even cause one casualty.
Lastly, but BY FAR MOST IMPORTANTLY FOR ME is the Obliteration boss fight against Ness and Paula. Is it almost perfect? Yes. Paula’s rage is fantastic, as is basically making her the ‘main character’ (though I kinda wish she would have used Prayer once or twice), as is accurately having Ness be the healer keeping everyone but himself alive. But one big sticking point is Ness’s final words: “Finish the fight... for me...” Like he’s flying to Earth on the Forerunner Dreadnaught to stop Truth from getting to the Ark and firing the Rings. That’s not Ness’s character. And it’s especially not what he’d say if he were about to die.
Ness’s character is driven largely by his pluck, his friends, and his family most of all. All of his Sanctuary memories are of home. If he were about do die, he wouldn't ask that “the mission would be complete” or whatever.
He’s a child.
He’s scared half the time, but puts on a brave face and raises the V for photos.
He only set out on his journey to protect his family.
Him getting homesick and needing to call or visit home is an actual gameplay mechanic.
The franchise is fucking called “Mother” and love is a reoccurring and powerful force throughout the trilogy. It is what saves lives, redeems others, and literally saves the world in it’s last minutes. Every. Single. Time.
What should the dying boy’s last words be? What should his last thoughts be of as he realizes he’s failed to save his world, his friends, his family?
“Mom... Dad... Tracy... Paula, please.. L-look after them...”
And that. That, would inspire Paula’s rage, desperation, and determination to stop us, more than anything else. She loves her family too, and now she needs to protect them from us.
And if the game really wanted to hurt the players, they’d make some contrast or comparison between LV and love.
The fangame obviously has a LOT of effort put into it, and it is very good and nothing is ever perfect, but it just feels like the devs only played Earthbound to get the gist of it, or to “see Toby’s inspiration”, y’know?
Funny Story: Sonic the Hedgehog
I'm going to preface this post with the fact that i am 9 times out of 10 bad at video games unless i have grinded them for days (as in like the game will say i've put 100+ hours in it of nothing but playtime) and even then i'm usually still pretty bad at them, and the fact that i really like sonic games in theory, i like the characters, love most of the music, i like going fast in platformers, i've taken some ideas from the games as inspiration for my own projects, you get the idea
i have tried, multiple times over the course of my life, to play sonic games and enjoy them, and every time i have either failed or been personally singled out by the universe and had my experience ruined, here's the list
Sonic CD: Mobile port has ads that play when you unpause, I got an ad for a mobile Friday Night Funkin' rip-off reusing shit from the fucking Sonic.EXE mod and the ad BROKE AND FROZE THE ENTIRE APP AND I COULDN'T DO ANYTHING AND I LOST SO MUCH PROGRESS so I deleted the app
Sonic 1: Do people actually enjoy Sonic 1 nowadays
Sonic Rush: Had to use some cheats to beat the game but I beat both campaigns and got all the emeralds... but i tried to pause the game during the true final boss, accidentally hit my emulator's Reset button and that somehow fucking deleted my save data and i couldn't get the true final boss unlocked again even with cheats to get as much progress back as possible, also I hate the power of friendship trope and I hated the way it was used in the ending too
Sonic Generations DS: I couldn't beat Time Eater as a kid and it's the only time a video game has ever made me cry because I got so frustrated (The closest I've gotten since was hearing Reunited in Undertale having finally played it years after first getting into it but I made it without a single tear haha I'm only kinda cringe), I never went back and beat the game and I honestly don't think I want to
Sonic Mania Plus: Rage quit at Chemical Plant I forgot why lol, may give it another go but
Sonic Forces: One of the worst games I've ever played (I'd say the worst is DangerZone from the Minecraft OreSpawn guy)
Sonic Frontiers: I have no clue who designed that stupid "herd the rock chao in the time limit also some can blow up" minigame and made it required to progress but I hope they got fired and then thrown out of a high-up window because that is bar none the worst minigame in any game I've ever played, no I did not beat it but it wouldn't matter because I wasn't really enjoying the main gameplay anyways
Sonic Dash: I hate grinding
Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog (I know it was a joke, shut up): I already mentioned I hate the power of friendship trope and I hated the ending as a result
The only Sonic game I've had no negative experiences with is Sonic Robo Blast 2. The fucking fangame made with a modified Doom engine. I never finished it, I don't know how close I got, but I have no bad memories with it.
Why does this happen to me.
So i bit the bullet and against all of my better judgement: i checked out the Tee K.O. 2 sneak peak. (TW: excessive rage)
And i gotta say: canceling the pack isn’t enough, i need to break into Jackbox HQ and steal their computers to delete pack 10 directly off of their hard drives.
The only good is the the fact they added extra animations to the chibis, sucks that the talent was waisted on the worst crimes against design philosophy i’ve ever had the displeasure of seeing.
I’m pretty sure they killed off the Tournament Master too, y’know, cuz the game needed to be made more of a shameful advertisement! Why not skin them into a rug while you’re at it since you keep stepping all over your “beloved” property.
I’d be surprised if even ONE casual player actively wants to play the sequel over the original when it comes out, because Jackbox really did just decide to kick their primary demographic directly in the balls. Because no casual player is going to want to play a game that requires extensive emotional attachment to part game hosts to not feel incredibly alienating.
The Jackbox Party Pack 10 registers in my mind like a fan concept, ESPECTIALLY TEE K.O. 2!! Because a sequel where it’s a bunch of Jackbox characters instead of players feels EXACTLY like what a fan would make up, not an actual company that’s trying to make an actual profit!
I mean they revealed two games in one day, which is ones of the big things you DO NOT do when you’re an indie company, so i wouldn’t be surprised if they revealed that they got tired of running the company and decided to bankrupt themselves for shits and giggles.
Long story short: pack feels like a some guy’s fangame, we deserve better than games that look like they were created on the first concept sketch alone..
Fun fact: i have a text post sitting in my drafts featuring my immediate reaction to the sneak peak, it’s 1000% more violent and angry than this post ever will be and it likely won’t see the light of day because of it!
Also it’s fine if you like it, i’m not saying you’re awful for liking Tee K.O. 2, like what you wanna like, i’ll hate what i wanna hate just as hard!
Photography and Music (Kodoku's Lilacs, The Life of a Flowstar, No. 11)
Damn, it's been 10 days since my bday, and 356 days left until I'm no longer a child. Well, at least physically, I feel like I'll still be a child inside, not like a man child tho, just playful and stuff. Sucks that I never really got the chance to do that outside of school tho, I'm too much of a shy person to even tell my parents about my friends. But it's okay, I still got them om Snapchat and even if I don't talk to them, I got two things that I use to help me:
Photography and Music
Two different things I found that I truly love. You don't have to speak to make music (if you make beats or other stuff) or photography, but if you do it right, they can both mix together well. Whether it be a Japanese photo with pink trees and an ambient track with harps in it is playing, or if there's a inverted color volcano that has something like lean coming out of it with women and rappers and drugs around it as a cover art playing some Trap-A-Holics, with the photo in the background can help the mood, and I've heard several tracks that have the perfect feel of the thumbnail.
I'll talk about the harder stuff. I listen to rappers like Playboi Carti, SpaceGhostPurrp, and XXXTENTACION that have some pretty hard songs and hard cover arts, and I'll drop one example per artis. Playboi Carti with For My Set, the blue wavey cover art firs with that vaportrap like beat and atmosphere and Carti's flow. Purrp with his project, Blackland Radio 2, the beats aren't exactly what you were here with popping off rappers then (2016), but the atmosphere surrounding them stay trap and dark, especially with the cover art having what looks to be a devil's shadow over a fire. And finally X, rest in peace, with his song Run Up On Me, that cover art, even if it's so simple with a dark red color, it fits imo because it has a blood color and red usually means rage, and that song is truly hard.
Now that we're getting to the softer side, I'd like to talk about a game that has helped me late 2021 to now with its OSTs, it's a game called Yume Nikki, more so its fangame, Yume 2kki. Yume Nikki is about you exploring a girl's dreams, walking around different places and collecting effects, no story. Now that may sound boring, but if you appreciate art, you'd like the game, although it can be dark at times. Usually, if you were to play those games, you have to download them with a specific player for them, but there's websites that host the game for free, and that can help with people who can't download them on certain devices like chromebooks.
What Yume 2kki helps me appreciate, is the art around it. The worlds, music, and the atmosphere in general. The worlds can be dark like that one city with that dark piano track playing (that's how I discovered the game cause of some video about fears), to a happier, more calmer side of atmospheres and music, and there's so much worlds to explore, like a thousand of them because creators around the world have worked on it, yet so underrated. I think my favorite track from Yume 2kki is the ceiling reversed, that track has helped me calm down in situations where I had panic like feelings, it's therapeutic in a way that just stands out from others. And don't forget, appreciate the original game, Yume Nikki too!
Well, I'm done for tonight! I feel a lil more happier compared to last night, I felt like there wasn't anything in me, not even motivation when I laid in bed. I'm gonna try to remember and start writing these in the beginning of the days, and listen to Yume 2kki again, it's been a minute. Anyways, hope yall have a good night, happy memorial day.
Sincerely, Kodoku.
Does RAGE’s symbolism add anything to its storyline? The dragons are an interesting choice considering how they usually symbolize destruction, or is their any other symbolism for them?
Hey Anon!
RAGE’s symbolism does have some impacts on the story, of course, this depends on what the item/creature it is. RAGE’s symbolism is a bit vague and I want to leave it up to interpretation. This vagueness links to the dragons as well because of how opposite dragon interpretations can be, it’s why dragons were my go-to symbol for this game. Depending on culture and beliefs, dragons can represent two things:
-Death, Destruction, War, etc.
-Fortune, Prosperity, Victory, etc.
RAGE’s dragon characters are written with some elements of both interpretations, a good example would be the Bad Batter dragon here:
Tumblr media
Also called the “Anti-Batter”, this dragon contains elements of good and bad symbolism. Its nature is deemed destructive, yet its actions and reasoning behind them can be justified. In the end, it’s up to interpretation in wether you believe said character is a good guy or a bad guy.
This method of interpretation applies to other symbolism in the game as well!
Chill and relaxing games
No screaming
No keyboard smashing
No table banging
No chair jumping
Just peace
Talks to his chat more than he actually plays tbh
Games like Unpacking and Townscaper where you don't need to use your brain that much
Sometimes... JUST SOMETIMES...
He feels like streaming for 7 hours to play all the Sherlock Holmes games humans have produced
7 hours playing the same game if he's really into it
Or if his chat is being annoying
Even fangames-
Every time there's a save point in the game he's just "Chat, let's take this opportunity to discuss all we've done so far"
Has an inside joke within the fandom about him having an OnlyFans account
Just cuz he attempted to make a joke once
"@Art3m1s feet pics when~"
"These are not for free"
"...OH SHIT WHAT DID HE SAY"
"DID YALL HEAR THAT! ITS NOT FOR FREE!!"
LAWJACKER {Ben 10/Madness Combat}
...Hello hello hello my dudes. How about a weird-ass crossover for your time? My explanation for this is that I've been on a bit of a Ben 10 kick lately (The Ink Tank keeps on appearing in my damn recommended lmao), andconsidering my current Madness Combat fixation... You get the picture. I decided to go more in line with the OS style, being that's what I have the best memories with (and I've honestly never been a fan of UA/AF's style). How he got unlocked this dude (save for it already being in the Omnitrix somehow)? No damn clue. Had some help from someone on Discord for the name: Other names I faffed around with were "Lawbreaker" and "Lawless". Either way, wonky to figure out what a 10 y/o would call this bundle of floaty limbs and murderous rage. Oh, he'll jack-up the law alright...
Info time! Prepare for a fuckton of text! Fokkit, have a read more-
Name: Lawjacker
Species: [UNKNOWN DESIGNATION]
Species Original Planet: Earth
DNA Donor: [UNKNOWN]
Omnitrix Location: Chest (10 y/o), Forehead (Ben 10,000)
Physical Qualities:
- Silvery-grey skin, texture of which feels similarly to clay. Skin is less elastic than human skin.
- Strange amount of similar-to-human characteristics, such as the ability to grow a beard.
- Four-fingered hands which seem to float from the body. Lacks proper shoulders as a result. Hands can only be taken so far away from the body without sustaining damage (signified by bleeding where the wrists would be) and forcing him to return to human form.
- Lack of ears and nose (and hair when younger). On face is a strange feature dubbed a "Facial cross" that seems to be over where the center of his face would be, intersecting down where the nose would be. Does have eyes and a mouth, though is capable of hiding either or both without inhibiting senses and the ability to speak, revealing eyes the same shade of green as his human form and his mouth having more pronounced canines.
- Extremely small (possibly nonexistent, further testing needed) legs combined with proportionally large feet. Surprisingly acrobatic and agile.
- Lack of distinction between neck, torso, and where the hips would be. Body shape is akin to that of a tube or column.
- Physically sexless (Though seems to lean masculinely, with a deeper voice and retaining the beard from Ben 10,000's base human form)
- Surprising physical strength despite lack of proper arms, capable of throwing blunt objects with enough force for them to easily pierce flesh.
- Keen physical reflexes and large amounts of endurance. High pain threshold and tolerance.
- More pronounced claws in older age
- Strangely reactive blood. Species normally has bright red blood akin to humans, but it can greatly and permanently change color in response to genetic tampering with the host. "A.T.P." units are a well-known example, having yellow blood from gene-altering for increased durability and physical strength, among other things. In the case of the Omnitrix's sample, tampering for optimal physical and mental status has conditioned Lawjacker to have green blood the color of the Omnitrix-wielder's eyes.
Mental Qualities:
- Sense of humor is noticeably off-color compared to wielder's usual humor.
- Keen reflexes, comparable to a "sixth sense" for sensing danger and watching eyes.
- Nature is immensely violent and aggressive. Coupled with his ability to sense incoming/possible danger, leaves him seemingly perpetually on-edge and often leads to immensely erratic behavior.
- Seemingly innate skill in combat and with weaponry in general. Melees, slug-throwers, energy weapons, bare hands. Oftentimes seen mixing acrobatics with weapon prowess and switching between weapons with ease, along with being prone to throwing his weapons.
- Sensitive to the presence of unnatural psychic phenomena, which this form consistently refers to as "Dissonance". This is most intense when in the presence of outright magic and other bizarre reality-altering phenomena.
- Sensitive to the scent of smoke. Particular form shows immense disdain for it.
- Not emotionally sensitive to the sight of brandished weaponry, immense violence, or gore.
- High pain tolerance.
Strengths:
- Very difficult to get the drop on. Keen senses mixed with being able to sense the presence of others and watching eyes.
- Agile and acrobatic despite bizarre anatomy. Coupled with physical strength, keen senses, and prowess with combat and weapons makes him a difficult combatant head-on.
- Floating hands, though not capable of reaching far, can still be used to bypass obstacles that would be impassable with attaching lengths getting in the way.
- High pain tolerance mixed with violent nature makes his onslaughts difficult to deter.
Weaknesses:
- Not the most diplomatic. Antsiness mixed with general aggressive nature and off-color sense of humor makes him not fit for non-violent negotiation unless being brought in for mere intimidation.
- Though has a high pain tolerance and threshold, is comparatively fragile compared to other aggressive heavy-hitters. Less-elastic skin is prone to being easily torn. Comparatively a glass cannon.
- Aggressive nature and pain tolerance means that they often don't know when to quit and retreat from a life-threatening encounter
- Not as flexible as a normal human, especially in the leg/feet area.
Outfit(s):
10 y/o : Black jumpsuit with a white stripe down the middle attached to a white ring around the Omnitrix on the chest. Black shoes and gloves, black goggles with bright green lenses.
Ben 10,000 : White jumpsuit with a long, black jacket over it. Jacket has a white stripe down the middle and around the bottom edge, along with a white ring mark around the neck/shoulders area. Most of the time wears a black-and-white bandanna around bottom of face, and wears similar green-lensed goggles to his 10 y/o outifit. Omnitrix location on forehead has synthetic growth over top of head connected by white wiring. Wears metal armor over front, held up by straps. Has black fingerless gloves and black shoes with pointed, upturned toes.
Design Notes (Meta Content):
- I used OS designs as reference
- I wanted to retain the primarily-dark color palette of normal MadCom designs. I ended up using designs like OS XLR8 and Diamondhead as reference. The "white stripe on black uniform" look ended up fitting even with Ben 10,000, as his older human design had a black shirt with a white stripe which contrasted young Ben.
- I originally wasn't sure what to but on young Ben's head/face, but eventually decided on goggles like Hank. Other lenses and head wrappings didn't work, and having nothing there felt weirdly naked.
- I referenced off of Jebediah Christoff for the armor on Ben 10,000. I originally attempted more head wrappings to go along with the bandanna akin to Hank, but it felt too cluttered and didn't want to cooperate.
- Ben 10,000 is holding a tablet like 2BDamned.
- 10,000 Lawjacker has claws akin to MAG Agents and how Krinkels has drawn DedmosRebuild Deimos.
- Figuring out the shade of green to use for the lenses/eyes was a massive pain in the ass. The green color did not stay consistent between aliens/characters in OS lmao.
- I gave 10,000 Lawjacker wires on his forehead Omnitrix like how it looks on his wrist in human form, implying that it's growing into him. Thought it fit the grungy-looking feel of regular MadCom.
- I used the sharp toe shoe design from the MadCom fangames illustrated by MindChamber (Madness Regent, Madness Accelerant, Madness Hydraulic) for Ben 10,000 because I thought it looked cool. I originally thought about doing it for 10 y/o Lawjacker, but it ended up looking out-of-place.
- I did the remark about disliking smoke because... you know what tends to happen to smokers in MadCom, right? >8}
- Ben 10,000's chest armor kicked my ass lmao
This took me way too damn long. I hope you like it!
Note
why do you hate ballvile?
Short answer; I don't actually hate it, it's really more of a lighthearted grudge towards it because of an OFF fangame called CSR (Continue Stop Rise).
Long answer; My friends and I played through both OFF and CSR, and we voiced the characters as we went through. I was mainly assigned to the background characters like the Elsen, but was also given the characters of Ballville. I could never really remember the voices I gave them, and sometimes even got them mixed up (especially for the Magenta Ninja when we got to CSR).
Eventually, in CSR, we got to the point where Boxxer had a long monologue. I was tripping up my words from the start, struggling to read, while at the same time trying to make sense of what he was saying because I had little idea what was going on (It was my first time experiencing CSR). I got up to one bit of dialogue and completely read it wrong. My friends paused, and it took me a bit to realize that what I said wasn't at all what was on the screen, and made absolutely no sense. I tried to reread it about 3 more times before I got it right, all while we were trying to breathe through laughing so much.
Ever since, I've had a (lighthearted) grudge and seething rage towards Boxxer and anything to do with Ballville.
What about the best game soundtracks of the 2010s?
So, I’ve been on and off thinking about and drafting this post for most of the year, and it’s finally time for me to unveil it to the world: we are now very close to the end of the year and the end of the 2010s, and while Sonic soundtracks have mostly kept their god-like status, I for sure played and listened to a lot more games than just Sonic. Because of that, I’m kinda in the mood to remember and revisit some of the games with the best soundtracks out there.
Disclaimer: remember this is merely a personal list, where I take into consideration the game soundtracks that influenced me the most due to overall quality or hype surrounding them. I’m aware of the limitations of the giant task of listing 10 years of VGM, so this post is also an open invitation to all sorts of discussions for the myriad of games I’m surely gonna miss, and maybe even a door into other fandoms I used to take part or still am. If you have a game or a particular track you think it deserves the spotlight, then keep the discussion going!
Also: I’m only listing games with fully original soundtracks, but at the same making an exception for commercial songs created with a particular game in mind, released and then featured in said game (for example, A7X’s stuff for the Black Ops series).
I’m going to include Sonic games just for the sake of highlighting specific tracks. So, what are your favorite soundtracks of the 2010s? Here are some of the best for me:
Non Sonic games (in no particular order):
PAYDAY 2 (2013) - Highlights:
Hot Pursuit;
Backstab;
Break the Rules.
Mega Man 11 (2018) - Highlights:
Fuse Man;
Block Man;
Dr. Wily’s Gear Fortress.
Sunset Overdrive (2014) - Highlights:
Total Annihilation;
I’m On The Run;
I Don’t Want Your Company.
Ryu Ga Gotoku Zero (Yakuza 0) (2015) - Highlights:
Judgement;
Heart Break Mermaid;
Pledge of Demon;
Queen of the Passion;
I’m Gonna Make Her Mine;
Koi No Disco Queen. (sorry i got carried away for a while ‘cause this game and its ost are both so great)
Furi (2016) - Highlights:
My Only Chance;
6:24;
Wisdom of Rage.
Super Mario Odyssey (2017) - Highlights:
Steam Gardens;
Jump Up, Super Star!;
Break Free (Lead the Way). (I mean, Mario finally has not one but TWO proper vocal tracks, one of them being Sonic-esque as fuck, and in a mainline game no less? WHAT TIMELINE ARE WE EVEN LIVING IN?)
Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010) - Highlights:
115;
Abracadavre (Ascension DLC 1 was such a biiig hyyype back in 2011, I clearly remember those days);
Not Ready to Die. (featured in DLC 2, Call of the Dead, using the classic ‘Damned’ Zombies menu melody)
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (2013) - Highlights:
I’m My Own Master Now;
It Has To Be This Way;
The Stains Of Time. (also the first two tracks were featured in LakeFeperd’s fangame Sonic Chrono Adventure, lol)
Undertale (2015) - Highlights:
This game needs no highlights, we all know it. But if you insist...
Well, here’s where I put the most influential song of the entire decade;
Ruins;
It’s Raining Somewhere Else.
Freedom Planet (2014) - Highlights:
Main Theme;
Relic Maze 2;
Thermal Base 1;
Final Boss 2.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017) - Highlights:
Hyrule Castle (I’d say both versions, but the marching steps playing outside are badasssss);
Breath of the Wild (greatest main theme of all decade, no doubts);
Kass’ Theme (man, I hate that Nintendo blocked the full version of that song on YouTube).
Shovel Knight (2014) - Highlights:
In the Halls of the Usurper (Pridemoor Keep);
Tango of the Troupple King (what a fun highlight from Plague of Shadows);
A Cargo of Fineries (Flying Machine);
Hitting Close to Home.
Celeste (2018) - Highlights:
Resurrections;
Confronting Myself;
Mirror Temple (Mirror Magic Mix);
Golden Ridge (Golden Feather Mix);
Farewell.
Katana ZERO (2019) - Highlights:
You Will Never Know;
Sneaky Driver;
Monster.
Cuphead (2017) - Highlights:
Floral Fury;
Dramatic Fanatic;
Railroad Wrath;
High Sea Hi-Jinx.
The Wolven Storm;
A Melody To Break the Curse;
Hills of Destiny.
Spark the Electric Jester 2 (2019) - Highlights:
