Being a writer is so embarrassing. I'm going to a live production of a play I wrote (very cool) but I will spontaneously combust if anyone talks to me (ahhhhhh!)

Like they should invent a being known that doesn't make you feel so terribly vulnerable :/

i really want to enjoy rap music, but i feel almost incapable of it, or maybe like i need another ten years of deliberate research to do so properly. i like Kendrick Lamar - i watch a video of a bunch of people reacting to a new track and they LOVE it. they're pausing on lines i passed over entirely like they're top shelf bars and it makes me realize i actually have zero idea what they mean.

there was one that went "who you with? couple sergeants and lieutenants for the get-back" and this dude pauses on it and repeats it like it's heat and... is it? i have no idea. i have no clue what it means. like am i just plain dumb, is it a super clear reference to the drake beef? am i missing a mountain of rap context and black cultural context that would make sense of it? is every line a metaphor and I'm too autistic to get all but the surface-level ones? (it doesn't help that i also have audio processing issues and have to specifically focus on understanding all the words.)

i just looked on genius and that line doesn't have any annotations, so i still don't know what it means - not that relying on genius annotations is a good substitute for the immediate emotional connection that so many people have on a first listen. i don't want to be reading this stuff like shakespeare with footnotes when other people just get it immediately.

it's not ALL impenetrable - Kendrick has a fair few songs that i feel i understand all or most of, particularly stories like "how much a dollar cost" or "swimming pools". but it's at least 10% total mystery in every other song.

sorry if this seems whiny or something. i know it's not a huge deal but it's still a pain as far as I'm concerned.

ARMYs on stan twitter trying to devalue the 9 categories Jimin won through DABEME Awards, ALL because "PJMs" won "Best fandom" instead of just congratulating Jimin and being happy that he has such a solid group of fans supporting him all the step of the way. Is the EXACT same attitude and energy that Kpoppies and ex0-ls used to give BTS & ARMY whenever they won awards through... y'know, FAN-VOTES.

As if many of the big Daesangs BTS won in the past weren't mainly fan-voted.

But this fandom is full of hypocrites who love to gaslight others into forgetting their past and where they came from. Now ARMYs are the ex0-ls of the Kpop fandom, proud to be crowned "The Most Toxic Fandom" while celebrating everything they once bullied & hated other fandoms for doing.

But some of ya'll ain't ready for that conversation.

LOL Awards don't just become illegitimate or fraudulent just because your fave didn't win any when you didn't even vote for him in the first place, Karen.

Just helped my mother convert an old CD into a digital audio file. It’s of a radioplay and interview of three navy soldiers who fought the Japanese in WW2, and the only recording of my great grandfather, Robert Anderson’s voice.

He was one of those three soldiers, a well decorated and greatly admired man who managed to survive the horrors of the Second World War. He died long before I was born after a new plane he was testing for the Navy malfunctioned and crashed.

Thanks to modern technology, I was able to meet him and two of his comrades today, and it’s the first time in decades my grandmother, his daughter, gets to hear his voice.

Gonna see if I can get my grandmother’s blessing to upload the recordings so more people can meet him too.
