Tonight, I've been wondering about my Halbrand = Sauron headcanon and asking myself what speaks against it.
1. It's too obvious, in a way, though that isn't necessarily a problem; the twist could be he is sincere about becoming a better... person, for lack of a better term. Also, not everything has to be a super twist.
However, the writers have been good at surprising us (the whole of ep6 has been one surprise after another), so this could, indeed, be a total misdirect.
2. The way he looks at the running children in the streets of Númenor and smiles. I buy him longing for redemption, but that was rather OOC even for a repentant Sauron. The desperation he felt when Adar mentioned a child is (at least for now) baffling if he's Sauron.
3. I'm also still not sure how he could end up in Eregion now that he has a people to protect. My own theory was that he could be Galadriel's witness on the Southlands situation, but Gil-Galad (who would be on the receiving end of that information) is in Lindon, not Eregion. So, ahem, that's not a very good theory.
Maybe Sauron will be revealed to have been present in Eregion all the time, and we will see him the last scene, with Celebrimbor:
"Hello, friend."
*credits roll*
He might have put the whole "new fancy forge" thing into Celebrimbor's head and also somehow planted the seed of that weird "mithril will save us" idea that is, let's admit it, fishy.
4. If (and I have mentioned it before, so sorry for repeating myself) he was revealed as Halbrand, and Galadriel would know, he could hardly assume his ring-forger persona as Charlie Vickers, and I just don't believe (read: I don't want to! Never!) to lose him, he's too good to go. So, it's either revealed in a way that only we will know, or he's not Sauron at all.
One thing is strange. Why is his theme so similar to Sauron's? I have already posted it before but will do so again so that's it all in one place. This is my mix (first time I did something like this, so be merciful):
That is a head-scratcher. But again, that is so obvious that I'm wondering whether it has a completely different meaning than I thought it had.
Whoever Halbrand is, I hope he's staying with us for all seasons, and we will see him in each episode. Because, well, I want that to happen, and thus, it shall be so. :)
I have spoken!

Celeborn doesn’t need defense, in my opinion. Tolkien wrote him in a way for his character not to upstage Galadriel and that’s actually groundbreaking for his time (we are talking about a early 20th century man here, no matter how brilliant he was). That’s probably the reason why Celeborn is absent from most of her more memorable scenes. Tolkien wanted Galadriel to have the spotlight, and was aware readers (mostly male) would pay more attention to the husband than to the female character in the center of the scene. Now, Celeborn was heroic and a good husband to Galadriel, of course, he was one of the “good guys”. She chose him over all of her endless suitors for a reason. They were married and by Noldor law couldn’t divorce (blame it on Feänor’s mess), but that doesn’t equal “eternal love” in the lore, as many are trying to make it sound just to sink Saurondriel (or even the show itself). Galadriel and Celeborn led separate lives, and there was no passion there. To say there was, is the same as me saying it’s canon that Galadriel and Sauron mind-f*cked on a regular basis throughout the centuries. I mean, folks like to bring up the “Virgin Mary” inspiration for Galadriel in every way, except when it comes to her marriage to Celeborn. Suddently it’s this soulmates fairytale-type of marriage, as if they weren’t closer to good friends than to actual spouses. If it’s hard to keep the flame of passion alive for over 20/30 years of marriage (and nowadays most marriages don’t even last that long), imagine what it’s like after thousands of years (even for non-human beings). Galadriel and Celeborn are comfortable with each other, cool with doing their own things in separate, and that is enough, and that’s how Tolkien wrote them to be. No need to pretend they were madly in love and danced together under the stars, just to undermine Galadriel’s feelings for Sauron in RoP. They aren’t mutually exclusive, because Galadriel and Sauron won’t end up together, and Celeborn will eventually return.
I wrote a quite long response to your ask, but my computer did a blue screen of death and for some reason, answers to asks are not automatically put in the drafts?!
Anyway : I agree with pretty much everything. Relationships and feelings are complex. It's possible to love several persons, in different ways. With some people, there will be passion, with others, it will be more down to earth but also more stable, and affectionate. I think Galadriel needed someone like Celeborn to give her stability. In my opinion, the writers chose to sideline him for the time being, because had he been around, Galadriel would have not dived head first when it'd come to Halbrand. She would have not been in the same state of vulnerability, she would have not felt so alone. And maybe she would have seen the red flags sooner !

@stanboromir made a post about how the ROP hair and makeup department took inspiration for Galadriel's S2 crown braids directly from Tolkien. He said that as a young woman, Gal had an "amazon disposition" and would bound her hair up in braids when competing against other athletes. As so many of us ROP fans have pointed out to the shitty 'purists,' Tolkien always described Gal as a fierce warrior princess. I mean, her (misogynistic) mother-name was "Nerwen ("Man-Maiden")! We also know from the Professor that she excelled in magic, blacksmithing, and more traditionally feminine crafts like weaving. She even rivaled Feanor, and had the same stubborn pride. Basically, these haters wanting to reduce Gal to some perfect fairy godmother is so the opposite of Tolkien canon. If anything, I see her wise and gentle sorceress demeanor in LOTR as something she adopted to deal with all her heartbreak and trauma after centuries of losing almost everyone and everything she loved (including Sauron). She briefly broke her Lady of Light mask when Frodo offered her the One Ring. She had been repressing so much of herself for so long, and he gave her a small opportunity to let a bit show.
I saw that over on Twitter too and yes it does fit exactly what Tolkien wrote about her younger self. I've mentioned this before but again people have to realize the show's version of Galadriel would compare to a women in their 20s or 30s. The LOTR books/movies version I call Grandma Galadriel as that's what she is. If she was a human she's likely be in her 60s, 70s, or even 80s. My own grandmothers were very different people when they were young, just like all of us will be when we reach our senior years. People change, for better or worse, but we all normally are not how we were when we were younger.

The Rings of Power Summer Celebration 2024
Tumblr media
WEEK 4: June 18 - 30
Another week has passed by, which means a new prompt!
This one might seem intimidating at first sight, and we who are not gifted at music need to think outside of the box.
Some examples what you could do:
Simply write a post about what is your favourite musical theme from the show and why.
Lots of you create songlists for characters/pairings, and this is the right prompt for those!
Come up with a fictional Middle-Earth album with fictional song titles.
You might also create a cover for such a fictional album.
If you are a visual artist, you can translate the way the music makes you feel into colours and/or patterns, or draw/paint what it makes you think of as you listen to it.
If you choose a character song you could also draw/paint what you associate with that specific character.
And let us not forget that Ainulindalë is part of ROP canon, too, so you might write a drabble / fanfic where it is mentioned.

You could write a fanfic that contains a scene where people are singing.
If you are a poet, you might try your hand at writing lyrics to a fictional Middle-Earth song. Including crack!songs.
And let us not forget that Ainulindalë is part of ROP canon, too, so you might write a drabble / fanfic that revolves around it.
We are sure there are more ways how to interpret this challenge, and we can't wait to see what you'll do!
We would also like to thank to all of you who have participated so far. ♥
This week’s prompt is MUSIC.
Important remarks:
The event is not limited to creators. If writing, drawing, etc. is not your forte, feel free to come up with character song lists, text posts about what you love about a character and why, post a link to your favourite fanfic, reblog your favourite art created by others... literally anything you can think about counts as long as it’s related to the prompt.
There is an ao3 collection where you can post your stories or artwork.
If you do not manage to finish your fanwork by June 30, do not be troubled! You can also post it later.
Remember to tag your contributions as #ROPCelebration24 or #ROPSummer24
You can find more details on the event in the dedicated post.

if nobody's been here yet I'm gonna be very cringe and on brand and ask about the Partake Prequel
also Rivendell's Tiny Tearaway sounds DELIGHTFUL
Ahhhh thank you!
Ask me about my not-yet-written-fics from this list
The Partake Prequel
(also if you wanted to know more about Rivendell's tiny tearaway just lmk I can make another post for that haha. But I am glad it sounds good!!!)
(cw: discussions of pretty abusive dynamics and questionable consent, also discussion of sex)
so this only exists in my head because a) I'm morbidly curious and have a fascination with the psychology of messed up relationships and b) I am a masochist.
I am just constantly thinking about how the fuck We Got Here when it comes to To Partake. Like how do things get to a point where it's this fucked up and messy and tangly and Bad?
and of course there are bits and snatches that are mixed in to Partake -- like little glimpses into the backstory of Elrond and Gil's situationship, but I want to know more specifically how we got to where we are now.
We know that Elrond started pining after Gil sometime in the late first age when he was roughly in between the age of fifty and seventy. Which...for a Peredhel is a perfectly acceptable age to be sexual (Elwing and Dior had kids and were married by 30). But from an Elvish perspective (i,e. Gil's) that's a baby.
Literally he does not think about anyone else. This is a somewhat unhealthy obsession already. There's a fealty-kink wrapped up in here somehow that's all messily combined with the fact that Gil is currently the only adult who is really present in Elrond's life (if we're going with ROP's timeline Galadriel seems to fuck off to hunt Sauron shortly after Morgoth's imprisonment in the void, and you know...Earendil is busy Earendiling)
So to start I don't think Gil even really saw anything with Elrond as being on the table until sometime in the very early second age, after he appoints Elrond as herald. It's unclear when this happened -- I couldn't find a date for it. But I presume it to be sometime after Lindon is founded and Mithlond constructed and certainly after Elros sailed for Numenor (Elrond would have been emotionally vulnerable and attached to Gil-Galad even more -- and in my head Elros would not have approved of anything going on between Elrond and Gil-Galad so that's very off limits until he's gone)
But--- with Elros gone indefinitely, yeah Elrond gets more attached to Gil.
They're still not sexual yet though.
Elrond is taking regular trips to Numenor etc.
So I generally imagine that things really Began between the two of them sometime shortly after SA 432, when Elrond is around 500 years old. He's "mature" at this point in Elvish terms, and Elros has just died -- so, unhinged and probably at one of his lowest points.
SEX CW: I have a VERY firm idea in my head which I was planning to make a oneshot of. But Elrond at this point does get Very Horny about Gil and starts masturbating about it sometime around here. Gil catches him and that's how....uhhhh things start.
Because OBVIOUSLY (Gil brain here) he is into Gil and THEREFORE this is a PERFECTLY NORMAL and FINE thing to do!
Plus he is OF. AGE.
Nevermind the fact that Elrond is incredibly unstable and vulnerable and depressed & still extremely young, completely inexperienced, and there's some really fucky power dynamics -- all of which affect his ability to consent properly to ANYTHING.
So that's how it starts. They just start having sex. I think nobody really knows about it at this point.
(we start with mostly just Gil on the receiving end of some oral sex that Elrond is getting rapidly better at)
Gil's the one to broach anything more than that and Elrond is down for anything as long as Gil is happy.
rumors do start circulating at this point but absolutely nobody is keen to confront them about it.
I feel like there's potential here for Galadriel to catch wind of things, directly ask, and for Elrond to deny absolutely everything.
If she asked Gil there's no way that he'd admit that anything is going on either because she makes him fear for his life haha.
Elrond has been actively suppressing links to Melian at this point because it freaks out most Elves -- and because Gil doesn't like it.
At some point Gil broaches-- and by broaches what I really mean here is tries (he doesn't ASK!!) an osanwe link. Likely either during or just after sex.
Elrond does not know any better and his brain is full of dopamine and he thinks this is AWESOME. The king wants to be EVEN MORE INTIMATE
boom osanwe link. Far more of an osanwe link than they ever should have had.
boom immediate dissonance which is painful for Gil and so he assumes it is painful for Elrond
Elrond has not had enough osanwe experience to know this is pretty insular to the specific way his and Gil's Themes don't mesh.
"Let me fix it ok?" "Oh god please fix it"
Also there's the undertone here of Gil doesn't like it and Elrond feeling the need to manage his emotions and divest himself of anything displeasing even if that's his fucking Theme.
Hence the theme fuckery begins.
And things really really really start to devolve with their relationship.
Like I imagine in the beginning Gil was pretty cautious and careful -- not in a lovey dovey way but he's not wholly inconsiderate and it's within his Partake characterization that he doesn't like to hurt his partner unless it's in a fun kinky way. He also does not get off on someone being scared. That's an ick for him. So initially he would be careful.
But Elrond starts getting really good at masking things and figuring out that Gil likes to be rough.
And of course, anything for Gil.
Do you see where we're going.
Well and it's compounded by the fact that Elrond does actually like it, too. It just scares him. So he as a lot of really confusing feelings going on that he doesn't know how to handle and there's also a lot of shame wrapped up in it too
And obviously Gil is not um. Guiding him through this in the way that a more experienced partner who is sometimes building scenes and domming should.
And again -- there's that messy thing of "I need to please you in absolutely every way possible and also clearly my differences are Bad, and therefore I must mask all of them as best I can and keep up with my work demands because being useful is better than being loved."
(Which is a lesson he learned from literally everyone, even Elros in the end. It is not a lesson that Elros meant to teach him. But Elros loved him. And then he left.)
Anyway that's as far as I've gotten. The beginning is much more specific and it gets more nebulous as we get closer to the Partake timeline, but it's very easy for me to see the trajectory of their relationship, and that's really what I want to explore.
OHHHH also the undertone of codependency because Elrond and Gil are both fundamentally isolated and find solace in each other. And Gil isolates Elrond further to ensure that He Will Not Be Left. Because Gil is afraid of being inadequate and has literally no one else except like, Cirdan, who cares for him so deeply. (I mean, he would. If he wasn't an asshole. But you get where I am going with this.)
Yeah. Sorry.
There is no happy ending to this fic it is just a dissection of how we get from point A to point B. The happy ending would be Partake alkdhg.

Writing Interview Tag Game
Thanks for tagging me @klynnvakarian !
About Me:
When did you start writing?
In my 30s I definitely made an attempt to write a "novel" and did some world building and a few pages of writing and it didn't go anywhere. Then Late 2022 after Rings of Power season 1 just joining the Haladriel fandom I read so much fic that I thought maybe I could do some as well. Got some encouragement from other haladriel writers (crucial for me)
Are there different genres or themes you enjoy reading other than the ones you write?
I love history and science non-fiction. I mostly am writing in the fantasy fan-fiction space, but I do like sci-fi as my first love.
Is there an author you want to emulate, or are compared to often?
I either consciously or unconsciously imagine I am writing in the voice that Frank Herbert used in the Dune series. Maybe mixed with some George RR Martin and a tinge of Tolkien.
Can you tell me a bit about your writing space?
Vast majority of my writing was on an iPad lying in my bed before sleep when no one needs my attention.
What’s your most effective way to muster up a muse?
I usually write a chapter per month so it's just random thoughts or reminders while reading other fics which inspire me to write a snippet here or there when I have the energy.
The other big muse I've found in recent months was actually listening to or reading Tolkien books: "The Silmarillion", "Beren and Luthien" and "Fall of Gondolin" the beautiful prose and the rich lore just sparks new ideas I want to try to play off of or emulate in my own fics.
Are there any reoccurring themes in your writing? If so do they surprise you?
I always like stories of characters that are beaten down, up against the world, maybe a little unappreciated, but not giving up. Even if they cannot win they try their best and work hard. A lot of sadness too. I don't express much of that sadness IRL so that is a bit surprising.
Characters:
Would you please tell me about your current favorite character?
Tough call - probably the Lady of Light, Galadriel based on the ROP - characterization
Which of your characters would you be friends with in real life?
Hmm, I'm not sure if I would be best friends but I think I would get along with Ereddâz, my Orc OC from A Lord and his Builder.
I think Galadriel would ignore me and Sauron would send me to his dungeons to be a thrall.
Which characters would you dislike the most if you met them?
Melkor from my First Fire in the Void fic
Do you notice any reoccurring themes/traits in your characters?
I touched on it above, I think I like writing characters that believe they are doing the right thing. I do not like writing characters that are specifically and intentionally bad. Even my villains have plausible motivations or perspectives to justify their actions.
How do you picture your characters?
Most of my writing is currently around the Rings of Power cast and that style.
I am dabbling with non-ROP fics, like First Fire in the Void and there I pictured Mairon based on a lot of fanart that basically draws him like a pretty woman with long red hair lol.
My Writing:
What’s your reason for writing?
A creative outlet. For years and years I would day dream my own stories, going back to when I was a kid, I was also a pretty decent DnD DM making up my own campaigns. I've often had dreams of telling stories by creating video games (I am a software dev professionally) but I usually get stuck on the actual technology side of creating a game and can never get to the creative side. By writing fic, I was able to just get my ideas out there without being held back by the lack of skills in other areas (game dev, art, making a story interactive and still make sense)
Is there any specific comment or type of comment from readers that you find particularly motivating?
Ive gotten a few amazing comments that say this is their favorite fic and I can't believe it since I just write one of many thousands of fics so I feel honored, and for my WIPs a little pressured, to produce more at that level.
How do you want to be thought about by your readers?
I want to write stories other people like, I do think about how can I make a story original in a way no one else does? What's a premise no one else has or could be done differently?
But really I am mostly writing stories that I like?
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?
I think putting my characters through emotionally charged or traumatic events where they have realistic responses or reactions that I or I think readers might relate to emotionally.
How do you feel about your own writing?
I read other writing and it feels so polished and natural. I often feel like I am "emulating good writing" rather than being a good writer myself. I like my stories and plots but I am not always impressed by the words on the page after writing them. Sometimes I just give up during editing and just post and people seem to like it enough.
When you write are you influenced by what others might enjoy reading, do you write purely for yourself, or is it a mix of both?
AS I was saying I do think about the readers and I'm surely influenced by what I see in the community and what people respond to but every single idea is a kind of "wouldn't this be cool" idea I have myself first and then I judge how much I think other people would also find it to be cool or enjoyable. That part I sometimes guess at or things resonate with others that I didn't expect
No pressure tags!

Two of the biggest problems with HOTD's costuming is that it's simultaneously *too* similar to GOT, despite being centuries ago, and all over the place. Clothing would have been similar within a time period but class and cultural differences would also influence style. Both Alicients had costumes that doesn't indicate a cohesive Hightower look beyond green. With ROP, the costumes had rhyme and reason because the designer designed for each culture and actually worked on the Hobbit movies too.
Yeah, like, one thing Michelle Clapton did very well in GoT was making the different regions in Westeros and Essos look distinctive, and stay coherent about it. I'd argue the quality went down in the later seasons, but the basic ideas and concepts were there throughout, and for the most part, they had decent wigs! And keep in mind season 1 of GoT didn't have that big of a budget and it still looked better than HotD!
Like, I can see a few Tudor references here and there (Alicent has a veil that looks like a French hood from time to time, Rhaenyra has a gown that looks like an Elizabethan era dress with the white collar and all), but I don't really get why it's "Tudor-inspired", given the ASOIAF universe is basically an AU of medieval England (Aegon I is William the Conqueror, Rhaenyra is Empress Matilda, ASOIAF itself is the Wars of the Roses). The styling is just not different enough for me to really notice how it changed from one period to another - and you don't need to make it more simplistic, just give me something. Hell, they could have gotten away with a Roman-inspired look where Rhaenyra, Rhaenys and Laena wear hairstyles like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And if you want Alicent to be a Livia Drusilla type where she presents herself as a "traditional woman" who doesn't have time to look frivolous, you could go with something like this:
Tumblr media
Seriously, have fun with it! You could also have the Hightowers with the traditional Roman inspired fashion, and have the Targaryens decked out like Byzantine emperors. Like, you'd THINK the fall of the Targaryen dynasty would lead to huge changes in dress, because the Targs would probably opt for Valyrian fashions that the court would have tried to emulate, and then Robert Baratheon basically throws all of that out of the window and the "fashionable" style is now pretty much dictated by Cersei, since she's the queen.
Kate Hawley meanwhile is the costume designer for RoP, and she did design for opera, AND IT SHOWS. She also did the costumes for Crimson Peak - which is probably one of the best I've ever seen in a period drama, and I'm not even kidding. Take for instance Edith and Lucille - Edith is a rich heiress, so she wears silhouettes that were in vogue at the time and has a Gibson Girl look to her:
Tumblr media
And even then, even if the silhouette is pretty much prefectly accurate, she's still able to have fun with it! The fabrics used here weren't necesarily used in the Edwardian era, but the idea was to use some that looked similar to butterfly wings, and it works!
Lucille, meanwhile, wears gowns with a silhouette that was in vogue in the 1870s-1880s, with the bustles and all, but not anymore. It looks out of place during the evening party where she plays the piano for everyone, and her clothing is one of the things that awakens Edith's father's suspicion. It would be one thing if she was an old lady (since they tended to wear dresses that had gone of fashion 20-30 years ago, hence why in P&P 2005, you'll see Mrs. Bennet wearing a rococo dress at the Netherfield ball), but Lucille isn't that old.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the thing is, the Sharpes are low on money, but fashion was meant to be sustainable at that time and Lucille could easily adjust her dresses to have a more fashionable silhouette, and use the removed fabric for other stuff, instead of having to buy something new. She chooses not to, and it's deliberate, probably because the dresses she wears belonged to her mother.
See? That's thought and care right there.
Meanwhile, see this dress? Alicent Hightower wishes she looked that good:
Tumblr media
And the thing is, with all the pleating, the belt thingy she has, it would be so easy to mess up and have her dress look frumpy. The belt is perfectly adjusted and provides the watery effect it's supposed to have, the pleating is nice, and the dress actually looks like it was made specifically for her. Which makes sense, because Galadriel is a Noldo princess and she'd absolutely have her clothing tailor-made, and have it be from the best Elven seamstresses you can find. It looks so simple at first, but the more you look at it, the more you see all the little details it has. And they didn't mess up her hair, either (and anyone who's read the Silmarillon knows Galadriel's hair is important!). They used Morfydd Clark's natural hair, added extensions, made sure there were golden and silver undertones, and voilà.
And the costume department did their homework when it comes to the design - they took inspiration from pre-Raphaelite artists when it comes to the Elves, and also a little bit for Númenor as well - which makes sense given the connection they have to Elves, but they still look distinctive, with plenty of little details referring to Elros' origins here and there. Bronwyn has a dress that looks different from the other villagers, yes, but given she's a healer, she'd probably know how to dye her clothes and would dress more lightly due to spending a lot of time outside looking for herbs. The Dwarves look VERY different from the rest, and Disa has some great outfits, but you can tell their clothes became the way they were given they spend more of their time underground. The Harfoots seem to be wearing stuff they found while travelling, since they don't seem to have equipment to weave cloth and they often seem like they're wearing stuff that's too big for them. And I'm only scratching the surface here.

Roleplayer desperately seeks Werewolf (or other monster 👀) OC to rail gently smoosh against his Vampire OC
Hello RP Tumblr! I have a proposition for you.
I'm seeking someone to play a Werewolf, other were-animal, or anything/anyone monstrous whether hidden behind a transformation or not, against my ancient Vampire OC.
Some facts about him: His face claim is David Tennant. He's around about 1400 years old, and has generally seen some shit. He's snarky, but has a heart of gold when you get to know him - if he let's you close enough. He's named Ciaran, last name tends to vary with what persona he's using. He has a few of those personas tbh, and tends to flit between them to avoid having to stay in one place/situation too long. He's a very lonely man who longs for connection but has never been good with that.
Facts about the universe: in short its a modern day setting, with a supernatural twist. History is as history is irl, for the most part, but supernatural races have always been present in the world as well. They've been through eras where they were hunted, feared, othered; but a relatively recent UN treaty has most countries obeying an uneasy peace with the supernaturals which have made themselves at home within their borders. There's still hunters underground, and those supernatural folk who buck against the idea of the treaty, but most people are obeying the law.
What I'm seeking: a werewolf, werecreature, or other monstrous raced supernatural character for a shipping RP focused on their romance. There'll be smut! Kink, preferably, also. (We can discuss limits but things like size kink, omegaverse or heat cycles depending on the character, substance abuse, monsterfucking and a veritable bevvy of other kinky things are on the table on my end! I have few limits too!)
I'm looking for a Discord partner who: is interested in a MxM or MxNB RP sith me playing a cis male character. I am very receptive to trans, enby and intersex characters, and prefer greatly real life or description only face claims who are older than 30. (I will not play against animanga FCs or cartoons or video game characters for this RP, sorry!) Their actual age characters be anything 30+ in the RP of course.
I would like a laid back environment where we can chat ooc and do fun stuff like playlists, moodbaords, inspiration sharing, etc. together. I would also like you to be lazy literate, reply with between 1-5 paras, sometimes more depending on circumstances, and to reply preferably multiple times a day. Slow moving RP is as boring to me as one liners so if you can't dedicated enough time for that, please don't reply to me!
I am ONLY seeking smut and kink friendly 18+ RPers at present.
About me: I'm Oli, I'm 32, and I've been RPing for over 20 years. I'm not strict on grammar or spelling so long as we can understand each other. I'm really chill and laid back despite how it may seem hdhddj. I jsut really want to get to play Ciaran as I've had peopled rop me when I bring his FC into it or the fact I only want FCs who are 30+... I'm getting desperate now haha.
I also don't want to join a group RP! Sorry!
Pleass reply here, message me here on this blog, or alternatively get at me on Discord (preferred.) My username is oli.writes.stuff :)

As a contribution for Week 6 of the ROP Summer Celebration 2024 I offer "everything you never wanted to know about my OCs" from Tale of a King, which takes plays both in the Second and Fourth Age.
The 2nd Age characters:
Enwyn fiên Wendall (daughter of Wendall)*
*I came up with a fake Old Western Southron as the language of the Southerners in the 2nd Age, it's not very extensive, but I needed to know what names of characters and places mean, and also, I couldn't resist having a linguistic Appendix for a Tolkien story).
My fancast for Enwyn is Jane Eyre as played by Mia Wasikowska
Tumblr media
Family: One sister (Erriân fiên Wendall). One daughter (Neni, full name Neniêth fiên Halbrand). And an overbearing mother. Three nephews and one niece.
Character: Quiet and gentle (not submissive, though). Witty. Very patient. You have to be if you're Halbrand's/Sauron's wife. I've given some thought to what kind of partner Halbrand would need, and I came to the conclusion she'd have to have a sense of humour and not take him 100% seriously. And not to be as impulsive as he is, so as to ground him in reality.
Her struggles: Infertility. And coming to terms with her mortality, since her and her husband may never meet in the afterlife (which is why I chose a mortal woman as his wife for this story).
Interests: Growing apples. :-) She has an orchard in my fictional village of Ramborn and later in Tir-Harad (the Queen’s orchard).
Later: Brewing cider (which is a Harfoot invention in my AU; her original orchard becomes their “collective” later on.)
She also likes to write, and the story includes excerpts from her journal.
The story also includes their daughter Neniêth, who resembles Halbrand in most respects: looks, stubbornness, talent for smithing. Becomes a well-known jeweller. Not a queen though, the Southlands are an elective monarchy in my AU.
The 4th Age characters:
Tany Perriwinkle
26 years old. Ancient languages expert, works in an archive. She is also an editor for her friend Bran who is a playwright (the whole story is framed by the play he is writing about King Halbrand). Pretty, lively, very social. Changes boyfriends a lot. :-)
Bran Tarry
In his 30s. Playwright. A reclusive bachelor. Creative (obviously), with a sense of humour. Tendency to tease Tany about her love conquests. Pragmatic. His apartment is a mess. :-)
They basically look like the characters in the play's poster. The era they live in is fake 1920s.
Tumblr media
An excerpt from the story:
Act V, scene 3 Excerpt from Enwyn's diary Year 1337 of the Second Age
The funniest thing happened this week. Halbrand's wedding ring mysteriously disappeared, and all attempts to locate it proved fruitless. Unlike mine, his is just a simple one with no enchantment, and thus untraceable even for him.
It turned out the culprit was our Neni. The impudent little thing marched up to her father and confessed, immensely pleased with her accomplishment. Young as she is, she instinctively knew to take his ring and not mine, and was fully confident that he would not punish her. And, indeed, instead of scolding her, he laughed so hard that couldn't help but join him. It was apparent that he was proud of her for having tricked us so. His sense of humour has always been marked by a streak of mischievousness; and who am I to deny that it's a huge part of his charm? And, of course, he is no stranger to thieving. I might have teased him that her skills are far superior to his.
His love for Neni is beautiful to witness; it burns fiercer and brighter than the fires of the forge, but then, is he not a being of living flame? Nevertheless, he needs to learn to set boundaries when it comes to her shenanigans, or else she'll be spoiled rotten. He played the penitent, promising he would try, but I shall only believe him when I see it with my own eyes!

Hi!
10, 20, 30, 40 for the ask game please
10. would you say you’re an emotional person? I would definitely say I am, I tend to feel most things with my whole body, for better and for worse.
20. favourite things about the night? Just simply the quite <3 I should probably go to bed!
30. what’s one thing that never fails to make you happy/happier? So, this might not come as a huge surprise, but anything that involves Charles Edwards never fails to make me feel happy/better. So I am very concerned for season 2 of ROP, that season ain't going to be happy. Luckily I'll have season 3 of Under the Vines.
40. any bad habits? I bite my nails, I have been doing it since I was a child. I have tried on multiple occasions to quit, but so far I have failed.
