Which T'au authors from Black Library would you recommend?
I only really know about Phil Kelley and everyone only mentiona him as a bad writer (even tho I am personally mostly enjoying my current reading of Farsight: Crisis of Faith)...
Thank you for asking! I’m only dipping my own toes into the Black Library myself, but I do have a few recommendations regardless
Despite aspects of Phil Kelley’s writing, I did actually really enjoy the Shadowsun book. You can see my post about it here: https://www.tumblr.com/taudad/745116246289334272/so-im-reading-shadowsun-by-phil-kelly-right-now
This other recommendation is pretty old, but it stuck with me from way back when. The second book of the Last Chancers series (Kill Team, I think was its name) by Gav Thorpe is from the perspective of a Guard Penal legion posing as Gue’vesas on a mission to infiltrate and assassinate a T’au commander and it was a real fun read, I’d highly recommend that one
For other books here’s a list I intend to work through myself from the T’au Reddit page: https://www.reddit.com/r/Tau40K/comments/12hq1mg/tau_reading_list/?rdt=33501
If you end up reading any of these please come back with your thoughts! I’m always looking to read more T’au myself

So apparently the Kroot Hound enthusiasts are facing blowback from the Fire Warrior obsessionists, which implies that this sort of behavior seems to pop up a lot in this faction...

Im not Great on the Lore but I have been rotating the concept of someone (a T'au patrol maybe?) rescuing the survivors of a disastrous Adeptus Mechanicus campaign and them working to deprogram the surviving Tech Priest and their Skitarius from the whole. Imperium of Man death cult thing.
I want to see an outsider getting up close with what the AdMech do to themselves and each other in the name of the Machine God and the Emperor and sitting there with the realization that "ohhh.... oh you guys are DEEPLY fucked up. Are you ok? Do you need... therapy, maybe?"

Imagine writing books for a 40k faction.
You are the only author in that specific segment. They barely got any books, so you have guaranteed audience hungry for content. Expectations are fairly low on the "just don't suck" level. The level of established lore you have to navigate is fairly low due to no other authors having been here before.
Now imagine that the general reception of your work is the fandom instantly and without any debate going to pretend that you don't exist, and that their faction just does not have any books written about them. The only time you are referenced is when Votann fans complain about not having a book, and that reference is a threat.
This is what Phil Kelly has achieved, and the lack of debate on r/Tau40k on this is just hillarious. Like, it's reddit. The most contentious cesspool of the internet - and they don't argue about it. It is just completly accepted that he sucks and therefore they collectively pretend he doesn't exist if lore should be concerned.
Like, there's screwing something up and then there's whatever THIS is in terms of failing to meet your audience.
#warhammer 40k#wh40k#Tau#Phil Kelly#I have not read the books myself yet but I have never seen a collective reaction to an author#this hillariously dispassionate#they can't even bring up the energy to hate the guy because his work is so lame so instead they just act like it doesn't exist

The wave of Kroot releases seems to have broken r/Tau40k. It was like getting a feast after 20 years of famine. It just broke them. That's my only explanation for this chaos.
Also, it's spreading:

I just found the complete version of this artwork over at r/tau40k.
Crisis Suits are really going back to their roots huh?
Also those configurations are quite old conceptionally.
Look at that ancient artwork from the early 2000s, that's exactly what the suits are bringing today. In the front the Sunburst, in the back the Starscythe.
