When things are good, it almost feels like they're not real. It's a self created rollercoaster that he can't get himself off of. Today is just another day where the depression hits hard. JJ opened the door to the Rutledge house and invited himself in. It was like his second home. He spent more time there than he did at his own home.

"i don't really know honestly. would be easier and probably better for them if they looked up to nancy or jonathan but they've picked me. i just roll with it."

Rafe takes Shelby's hand and holds it for a moment, taking a breath as he looks out before he turns his attention back to her.

JJ popped in the golf club area pulling up in a golf cart. He handed the keys to Millie. "Stole it from Topper, Kelce, and Rafe." He grinned at the thought of those three walking the course on a hot day like today. "Kooks."

" You're going to college ?" she asks, which she isn't surprised. She can totally see Daisy walking a campus, getting her education. Bailey though? She may never see a campus. She may never go to college. Does she want too? Sometimes, she's thought about it...but what would she even go for? She hasn't figured that out ; but she hasn't had time to really think for herself in a long time. " My fingers are crossed for you." she tells her with a smile. " Applying anywhere local, or are you going to get the hell out of here ? "

“i  feel  like  kids  are  more  predictable  than  customers.  just  something  i’ve  been  thinking  about.  not  sure  if  i’ll  go  through  with  it.  maybe  for  the  right  family?”  daisy  gave  a  shrug  and  started  to  clean  another  dirty  table.  “i’m  so  indecisive  when  it  comes  to  stuff  like  this.  end  of  the  day,  i  kind  of  have to  go  where  the  money  is  though  because  of  college.  the  applications  and  tuition.  my  parents  can’t  cover  all  of  it.  still  waiting  to  hear  back  about  a  few  academic  scholarships. fingers crossed."

Barry's eyes flew open when he felt something touching his forehead, something warm and soft. His eyes narrowed as he tried to focus and make out the features of the face hovering above his. He had dozed off on the couch. He hadn’t meant to sleep this long. How long had he slept?

“What you doing, princess?” His voice hoarse from the sleep. His initial confusion fading away and a smug grin showed on his lips when he put one arm under his head, looking up at her. “Can’t sleep without me next to you, hm?”

When Shelby had appeared on his doorstep a couple of hours ago asking for a place to crash, he had just opened the door wider and let her enter his trailer. After putting clean sheets on his bed, he had retreated to his couch, where he must have fallen asleep.
