Qvale Mangusta, 1999. Designed by Marcello Gandini and first displayed at the 1996 Geneva Motor Show, the Mangusta was originally to be a new generation De Tomaso. The Geneva prototype was badged as a De Tomaso Biguà. However Alejandro de Tomaso, whose health was failing, was unable to fund the development of the project so turned to the Qvale family who had been the North American importer for De Tomaso in the 1960s. Qvale took over the project but fell out with De Tomaso over licensing issues and the car, which was powered by a 4.6 litre Ford Modular V8, was given Qvale badges instead. Things didn't go well and in total 284 cars were sold, including 18 in Europe. Qvale sort partners to rescue their failing project and found one in the newly independent (having been sold by BMW) Rover Group. Under the MG Rover group, the Qvale Mangusta platform was developed into the MG XPower SV

Finished in yellow over black leather upholstery, the car is powered by a Ford SVT 4.6-liter DOHC V8 paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The 4.6-liter DOHC V8 was shared with the contemporary Mustang SVT Cobra and was factory rated at 320 horsepower and 314 lb-ft of torque.Equipment includes a three-mode Rototop roof, 18″ Antera wheels, Brembo brakes, fog lights, air conditioning, a Kenwood stereo, and Borla exhaust mufflers. Marcello Gandini styled the Mangusta, and this example is finished in yellow. The retractable roof allows for hardtop, targa, or cabriolet configurations. Additional exterior details include projector headlights, fog lights, front fender vents, smoked taillights, and polished quad-exit exhaust outlets.

Daily Forza Car #24: POWERRRRRRRRRR
(Guess who remembered there's a lightbox in the studio?)
Tumblr media
Ohh hohoho boy, the MG XPower SV. Probably the coolest thing MG has put out in the past 20 years, coolest thing since the Metro 6R4 probably. Based upon the work of some long forgotten Italian brand named "Qvale," who's only car was originally a De Tomaso (which would've sold better if it stayed that way), combined with some ALL AMERICAN FORD MUSTANG PARTS, YEAAHAHAHAH BABY. It's probably the last British muscle car ever made, and the first one since the like, 70's Aston V8.
Tumblr media
And god DAMN is it good looking. This is probably my favorite design from MG past the 60's, and that is quite the statement I know. But it is just so... experimental. So unorthodox for such a milquetoast brand that currently shits out rebadged cars from China. So, yknow, an average modern day British marque that isn't owned by VW or Mercedes. Or whoever owns Aston.
Tumblr media
Probably the biggest shame about this car is how insanely rare this thing is. There's exactly ONE (1) in the US, and we ain't seeing more for another like 10 years. There's only 70 or so that exist to begin with, so they'll be going for hundreds of thousands too. And it is a genuine shame it sold so poorly. Jeremy Clarkson gave a stellar review of it, it went like water off a duck's back, and it was interesting as all hell. I guess that's what happens when a weird brand puts out a sports/muscle car 3 years before a recession, though.

"Annine Qvale (28 April 1963 – 27 November 2014) was a Norwegian children's writer and illustrator.
Annine was born on 28 April 1963 and was educated at the Oslo School of Drawing and Painting. In 2000, she made her debut as a children's book author with the story of the Chestnut People, which she illustrated herself. She also illustrated other authors' books and is probably particularly remembered for her illustrations for various adventures.
Annine Qvale was an organizational person with many positions of trust. She was elected to the board of Norwegian Children's and Young People's Book Authors in 2012 and immediately took up her post as deputy chair. But already in her first year in office she noticed the disease. Dutiful as she was, she tried to make an effort on the board during the period of illness. But earlier this year she realized that there were more important things to spend her energy on and resigned from the board. As an illustrator, she worked on her projects until the very end.
Annine was a writer and illustrator who has left her mark. As a member of the association, she was a fighter who fought for artists' conditions and rights. There are many of us who will not only miss her, but who miss her already.
The author, visual artist and illustrator Annine Qvale fell asleep on the evening of 27 November 2014. We had known for a long time that she was seriously ill. Yet for the longest time we hoped, hoped and believed. For Annine, it was hope and the will to live. Characterized by advanced cancer, she could take someone by the arm and say; "No, it's been a long time since I invited you to dinner. We have to do something about that, soon."

Jensen GT (1 0f 511).
Following the end of production of the Austin-Healey 3000, which Jensen built the bodies for, San Francisco based Austin-Healey dealer Kjell Qvale was keen to find a new model to take to market. He invested in Jensen Motors, making Donald Healey the chairman, and encouraged a joint venture between Jensen and Healey to develop and build the Jensen-Healey two-seater sports car. Production began in 1972 and continued until 1976, turning out over 10,500 cars.In the early '70s, the oil crisis flattened sales of Jensen's large capacity V8 Interceptor. In response, a 2+2 shooting-brake version of the Jensen-Healey sports car was developed and built during the last two years of production, which was known as the Jensen GT (Donald Healey having by then pulled out of the venture). In an attempt to appeal to buyers conscious of fuel consumption it was marketed as “The Good Thinking Car”.Both variants of the car were powered by the new Lotus 907 engine - from the same inline four-cylinder, 16-valve, dual overhead cam family of engines that would go on to feature in the Eclat and Esprit, as well as the Talbot Lotus Sunbeam and a number of Vauxhall DTV rally cars. This 1973cc engine developed 144 bhp, which was respectable for the time giving a top speed of around 119 mph, slightly lower for the heavier GT, but it lacked torque at low revs. It was mated to a Getrag 5-speed manual gearbox.A combination of industrial action and over-extended production capacity brought about the demise of Jensen Motors, going into receivership in 1975 and eventually exhausting the stock of factory parts to build cars in May 1976.In total, 511 Jensen GTs were produced during just under two years of production. The majority went to North America but 230 were sold in mainland UK.

Q is for Qvale This relatively small and obscure car manufacturer has quite the interesting backstory. Originally started by Bruce Qvale, the son of Kjell Qvale (who was the first distributor for Jaguar in the US West Coast and one of the original founders of the San Francisco Auto Show), Qvale was an independent Italian car manufacturer that was started in 2000 and only ever made the pictured model: the Mangusta. The Qvale Mangusta was produced after the original design -- chosen by De Tomaso to revive their brand (then named the De Tomaso "Biguà") -- ran into some financial problems. The name "Mangusta" was chosen by Qvale as an homage to the historic De Tomaso Mangusta. Qvale built 284 cars between 2000 and 2002 before eventually selling the rights to the design to MG Rover Group in 2003. One year later, this design was resurrected in the form of the much more aesthetically pleasing MG SV and SVR that utilized the structure, suspension, engine and gearbox of the Mangusta. #qvalemangusta #36daysoftype #36daysoflettering #typography #instacars #graphicdesign #carguys #carguy #qvale #mangusta #detomaso #mg #mgsv #mgsvr #svr https://www.instagram.com/p/CUdTV7IPHhp/?utm_medium=tumblr

Someone in the town I used to live in in bumfuck Pennsylvania used to have one of these and I never really realized how rare they are. I mostly remember them from the ads in the back of DuPont Registry in the early 2000s
