I just finished season 5 of deep space nine as a first time viewer and here are my thoughts:

- so we're entering the war seasons huh

- Quark's got game and no one (Odo) can deny it

- Worf, please get over yourself, Jadzia is so hot and so into you

- Ensign Vilix'pran singlehandedly causing overpopulation on the station

- Trials and Tribble-ations!!!! Watched it twice

- as if Kirk wouldnt notice smokeshows Jadzia and Benjamin!!!!! he would flirt with both of them in a second

- Curzon Dax... im obsessed with your passing... getting fucked to death? slay

- quodo camping trip, enemies to loves, huddling for warmth, only one bed(roll), hurt/comfort... i see you ds9 writers

- once again Kira is dating a boring ass white guy (she should date me)

- I'm so proud of Nog, that's all 🥹

- ziyal needs therapy for her daddy issues cause why else would she have a crush on an old gay lizard? who is in fact her father's nemesis???

- Dukat, they could never make me hate you (I hope)

- twice in different eps someone has said "who told you that?" and they just list characters? Polycule going strong I see...

also I always really wanted to know how and why the Quodo kiss tape exists in the first place because it was EDITED, they even cut in Nana Visitor's befuddlement during that take (and to her credit, also rather quick pivot into making the scene work lol)... the documentary team had access to boxes full of film for the few scenes that they remastered in HD so they probably found that take in there but they definitely had to make that tape, editing and all. Just to show it once at a panel in promotion for the DS9 Doc.

Sorry, anon. I do ship Garashir, and it has INSANE angst and porn potential...but I don't tend to write Star Trek fanfiction, because I first watched Star Trek when I was 9.

I have a hard time sexualizing the characters because of it. Like obviously, as an adult, I can say Garashir is sexy...I can share Quodo sex, and horny posting about all the characters... but my brain can't writing PORN of them MYSELF, because I struggle with this mental block of...those are my uncles?

I grew up with them? That crew...they're my family...my friends... I'll watch em be goofy on Tumblr, but...I don't know. I myself have a mental block that keeps me from writing porn of any of the characters from DS9, or actually, any of the Star Treks.

That's just my burden to bear.

Now that being said...

I did feel a twinge in my gut...when I re-watched DS9 recently...and there's that episode...with Sisko and Dukat trapped on a planet together....and uh. Dukat is losing his fucking mind, and Sisko is injured...and can't get...away from this madman...

I like and respect Quodo as a ship, but they're also deeply unserious to me. Just, inherently cracky.

Because I cannot imagine either of them ever giving up their shenanigans. Like, I heard about some rival professors once who were complete opposites in their theories, had big research battles, everyone thought they hated each other, etc. As it turned out, they were married. Their marriage survived because they just. Completely left their work at work. They never spoke about it at home. They'd write the world's most scathing rebuttals of the other's research, and then go home and make them tea.

Quodo? Would not do that. They'd be at their wedding, and Quark would still try to scam all the guests, and Odo would still try to put him in jail for it. Odo would routinely bug his own quarters, and Quark would sell information about Odo on the black market. Absolute looney toons shenanigans.

this is inpired by the line in @soft-galaxies’s wonderful precanon fic, words and tricks :  ”They look at each other and Odo wishes he could simply download his thoughts into Quark’s mind somehow, or transmit them without having to rely on mere words.” that made me go ooh, what if Odo actually tried to link with Quark before he knew what that even was, just the need to be truly connected and undertsood in a way he instinctually knew he could be overriding he’s impulse control, wouldn’t that be a wonderful disaster? : DD

So how did it happen for you?

The first time I saw DS9 was around 2006 or so. I knew right away that Quark and Odo were my favorite characters, and I even had a crush on both of them. But at the time, I thought of their relationship as frenemies and nothing more. I didn't really 'get it' when I saw Quodo slash content online.

Fast forward to just a couple of months ago. I was asked to briefly RP as both Quark and Odo in an ongoing RP multiverse I have with a friend of mine.

I had never written either character before. It'd been so long since I saw the show that I wasn't even sure I could write them.

I wrote, like. 3 paragraphs of them arguing with each other.

And then something

WOKE

UP.

Like an unfathomable, shambling horror slumbering within the earth, a latent portion of my mind burst unbidden and filthy from the darkness, finally making itself known.

And all at once, I got it. I suddenly understood why René said the relationship was 'sexual'. I also came to the realization that every single pairing of OCs I've created over the past couple of decades has been trying to be Quark and Odo, but I didn't realize it until now.

In just a few paragraphs, I speedran the process of becoming a diehard Quodo shipper. And I haven't shut the fuck up about it since.

I bet my friend regrets asking me to play those two. Since my friend has patiently dealt with it for a couple months now, I figured I'd go ahead and make it everyone else's problem, too.
