I just finished season 5 of deep space nine as a first time viewer and here are my thoughts:

- so we're entering the war seasons huh

- Quark's got game and no one (Odo) can deny it

- Worf, please get over yourself, Jadzia is so hot and so into you

- Ensign Vilix'pran singlehandedly causing overpopulation on the station

- Trials and Tribble-ations!!!! Watched it twice

- as if Kirk wouldnt notice smokeshows Jadzia and Benjamin!!!!! he would flirt with both of them in a second

- Curzon Dax... im obsessed with your passing... getting fucked to death? slay

- quodo camping trip, enemies to loves, huddling for warmth, only one bed(roll), hurt/comfort... i see you ds9 writers

- once again Kira is dating a boring ass white guy (she should date me)

- I'm so proud of Nog, that's all 🥹

Sorry, anon. I do ship Garashir, and it has INSANE angst and porn potential...but I don't tend to write Star Trek fanfiction, because I first watched Star Trek when I was 9.

I have a hard time sexualizing the characters because of it. Like obviously, as an adult, I can say Garashir is sexy...I can share Quodo sex, and horny posting about all the characters... but my brain can't writing PORN of them MYSELF, because I struggle with this mental block of...those are my uncles?

I grew up with them? That crew...they're my family...my friends... I'll watch em be goofy on Tumblr, but...I don't know. I myself have a mental block that keeps me from writing porn of any of the characters from DS9, or actually, any of the Star Treks.

That's just my burden to bear.

Now that being said...

I did feel a twinge in my gut...when I re-watched DS9 recently...and there's that episode...with Sisko and Dukat trapped on a planet together....and uh. Dukat is losing his fucking mind, and Sisko is injured...and can't get...away from this madman...

Odo with ear pods, I'm dead. They both would really be into music though, Quark with his ears and Odo can become all wobbly with the beats.

I wonder who my favourite ds9 character is hmmm hmm hm hmmmmmmm (I think if Odo was in our time he would have a kindle that is kind of what the idea behind this doodle was)

Also I do apologise if any of my character drawings are a little off model / inaccurate , I am still learning how to draw everyone, and a lot of my Odo/Quark doodles are done from memory without refs !

Side note ! Since I watch ~ 2 ds9 episodes a night and doodle the characters multiple times a day I thought maybe it'd be fun to treat this page as a sort of diary of my experience watching the show, accompanied by a sketch each day (or when I feel like it, as I don't want this to become a chore) so !! Tonight I watched s3e6 and s3e7. Not much to say about e6, I enjoyed it ! Lots of Odo content (yay) and Odo's lovely little enrichment bedroom which I found very sweet but otherwise not a crazy episode... e7 however !! Oh my I loved it so much, probably a favourite episode of mine !!! It was so so much fun, very silly and humorous, I found it so funny how the security measures continued to escalate.. the Cardassians are so dramatic I really enjoy them ! And there was some lovely Quodo content which I deeply appreciated eeehhehee.. they say they hate eachother but they are definitely friends and it makes me very happy wuuuuu I love their friendship so very much!!

So there you have it ! Thank you again to all the lovely people welcoming me to the fandom ! You are all wonderful ! I apologise if my words are somewhat ..informal?? I don't know but I have not loved something as much as I love ds9 in ages and I am doing my best to express this through text ! Yay!

Just realised I had a dream where I was reading the (very short) editorial of a TV-this-week type magazine

And it was just a couple of paragraphs musing about how popular DS9 had been, ending with something along the lines of "and was a surprisingly progressive show for the time. If you watch Odo's (René Auberjonois) interactions with Bashir, the changeling is constantly blushing whenever he's around the handsome doctor. The implications are there for even the most romance-blind viewer".

And I remember thinking "ohh, this was weird for the second I thought a TV guide was gonna talk about Quodo. Random Odo/Bashir propoganda? What is this!"

But also a ton of scenes running back through my mind of Odo turning red and fidgety around Julian and realising "But this guy is RIGHT though??? How are we all sleeping on this??!"

The Infinite and the Divine (2020) by Robert Rath

My partner recommended this Warhammer novel to me because I like Quodo, and... yeah. Extremely the same vibes: scrungly old man yaoi; if you've been rivals for 65 million years (they are robots), you are no longer rivals, you are GAY; why do I keep thinking about him when I'm trying to meditate -- it must be because I HATE him so much.

Anyway, here's some random thoughts (spoilers):

I love this Indiana Jones parody opening. XD

"Everyone had their damage. Of the few who'd already arisen, several of the old highborn of necrontyr emerged not knowing their names. Others were complete automatons, or even mad. In dark moments, Trazyn feared that in ten thousand years, when the dynasties began to awaken in full, he would find all of his peers had diminished. Not he, though. Trazyn had emerged with his faculties entirely intact." Me: Is Trazyn an unreliable narrator? My partner: Could be...

Partner: Where are you in the book? Me: Trazyn and Orikan are trying to kill each other. Partner: ........

Me: Omg. 😂 I guess I'm at the *first* time Trazyn and Orikan are trying to kill each other, then.

I am not a Warhammer fan myself, but my partner will periodically explain things/provide infodumps to me whenever I'm curious about something, and one thing I love is that the Orks are so fae and whimsical. Part of this fae whimsicality, for example, is that things become true because they believe that they're true. For example, they believe that when you paint things red, it makes them go faster, but because they believe this, it actually *does* make them go faster. But another part of this fae whimsicality is that they have the fourth-wall-breaking ability to change the genre of a work they're in. My partner once explained to me that there's an Ork detachment that, when you play it, its main specialty is that the guys are really speedy and are able to control the board through maneuverability. This is not a particularly reliable game strategy, though, because against a skilled player, it basically turns into a game of luck where you can win if the objectives award a lot of points for board control but you will lose otherwise. So it basically turns a war game about battle strategy into a game of chance -- in particular, about whether you can make "gotta go fast" into a winning strategy. So basically, you have these Orks zooming around the battlefield in their Mad Max trucks deciding to play Mario Kart instead of, like war, and this mental image is just so funny to me.

Anyway, the reason why this is relevant to this book is that you have these very serious aristocratic faux-Egyptian ancient robots (an archivist and a sorcerer, basically), but then when they're in the vicinity of the Orks, the narration changes to, like, "The crescent shape of the command barge rose, slugga and shoota rounds pinging off its armoured underside," and you see all these "stormboyz" flying around with carefree glee as their shoddily thrown-together ships are one second away from an explosion and you can just imagine the cartoon BOOM sound effect that would result from that. Like, once the Orks enter the scene with their trukks and sluggas and kroozers and outlandishly-slapped-together control panels labeled with simplistic things like "GO" and "STOP," then suddenly the genre of the work changes from whatever it was to hijinks-filled cartoon comedy.

Partner: Have you gotten to Trazyn and Orikan's date yet? 🥺👉👈 Me: No but they're, like... having coffee together? Partner: Oh yeah, I guess they kinda have two dates. But you'll know when you get to the date scene I'm talking about. Me: (later) THEY'RE ON THEIR DATE.

Omg, Trazyn and Orikan literally made each other worse 😂

One thing that makes Trazyn and Orikan's dynamic very similar to Odo and Quark's is that both Trazyn and Orikan are kinda awful in their own ways, same as Odo and Quark. Like, they're both just jerks who are mean and petty and terrible to each other and just never really get better. 😆

The big-scale battle scenes in this book are a little too long, although I guess if you're writing for a game called Warhammer, you have to do that. I did like (in the last battle) seeing all of the armies you saw Trazyn collect during the book. It was a bit of a running gag that he would steal some warriors and equipment for his collection, and that got a funny payoff at the end.

my thoughts on popular ships involving odo, as an aroace odo truther

not trying to stop anyone from headcanoning or shipping whatever they want, just explaining why I don't

quodo is okay but it's best when the attraction is one-sided on quark's side. odo doesn't feel attraction to quark, but he definitely feels something that he says is disdain but is closer to familiarity. quark's a part of the scenery, and if he left tomorrow, odo would be disappointed that his enclosure enrichment went away.

whatever kiraodo and lwaxodo are on kira's/lwaxana's side, on odo's side they're misdirected link starvation. as much as he lies to himself and pretends he's an introvert, he is made for connection. he comes from a species that is made for connection. and the connection he's made for is completely off-limits to him, so what does he do? he latches onto any solid who treats him like a person rather than like a curiosity, and if they seem to hold him in high esteem the way kira does, all the better. I've always thought it would be fun to write a fic where kira and odo have to deal with their mismatched expectations (romance on kira's end, a cure for link starvation on odo's) and mutually decide that their relationship is better when they're not projecting those expectations onto one another.

weyodo is a huge squick for me and I was going to not go into it for fear of yucking someone's yum but then I decided I don't care. ship and headcanon whatever you want but I do not see either weyoun or odo wanting that. weyoun because that is literally his god, and while many cultures in the history of this world and probably other worlds have had some kind of hieros gamos/sacred sexuality practices involving ritual union with the divine, there is literally nothing about the dominion that suggests that they are that kind of society, and odo because canonically he is deeply disturbed by the way weyoun interacts with him (up until six, and honestly even as a person who enjoys the idea of six surviving and Attaching Himself to odo in a way that eventually becomes reciprocal, I do not see that attachment developing in any other way than "more formal and respectful than average friendship/family bond"). I get that there's kink potential or whatever but as tumblr's friendly neighborhood dominion expert™ you need to change a lot of things about how the dominion functions in order for that kink potential to be there and once you do that it's just less interesting.
