to be honest, in my head i've been imagining that the admin of this account is a literal fish who somehow got a phone and a tumblr account and i'm ashamed to admit that my first thought seeing this was "how did the fish get into a sorority"💀

told one of my sorority sisters that im official fish posts and she's heard of me? like she's not on tumblr but she's seen screenshots of my posts! it was really cool!

i'm so, so happy that i got to grow up and start writing fan-fiction, if only because i just know that my younger self would be so excited to hear that i'd never stopped letting myself dream up something new.

the younger self that would race upstairs after watching a movie and imagine how i could fit a new character into the story i'd just seen.

the younger self that would spend hours reading a new series, and then even longer imagining all the spins and twists i could put on it.

the younger self that loved new stories so much that she'd feel sick to her stomach after finding out a book series or tv show had ended, that there would be no new ways shown to explore the characters and world that she'd fallen in love with.

i write fan-fiction for enjoyment. i write because i love the experience, because i love seeing people connect with and enjoy what i've written, but most of all, i write for that little girl, staying up past her bedtime with a tiny nightlight and a notebook, with stars in her eyes and ideas swirling in her mind, keeping her from sleep.

PSA for all my fanfic writers- CONSIDER USING NOTION AS AN ORGANIZATION SYSTEM FOR WRITING!!

it only just occurred to me that i could use notion to plan out my fanfic writing and just UGH LOOK AT THE BEAUTY!!^

i can put all my fics together and keep track of pairings & how complete they are!!!

AND give them all little covers!!!!

seriously you guys need to try this it is beyond satisfying🤭

a bit of a random thought, but i've seen discourse every now and then about the idea of ao3 hypothetically eventually being set up with an algorithim and i wanted to put in my two cents on the topic.

i love, love, LOVE that ao3 has no algorithm, solely for the reason that it makes my life as a writer with three remaining braincells SO. MUCH. EASIER.

on any other app that i've used to promote my works, i have to figure out how the algorithm works and what kind of posts it rewards and look up "best time to post on *insert platform*" to make the post gain any sort of traction and drive any traffic to my ao3.

i LOVE that when it comes to posting my actual writing, the time DOES NOT MATTER. 3AM? people will read it. noon? people will read it. weekday, weekend, it DOESN'T MATTER. literally i can post whenever and put zero thought into it. i love that SO MUCH.

simply put, pls do not give ao3 an algorithim. the way it is right now is perfect for all of us sporadic writers with toast for brains who want to be free to upload literally whenever with as little thought as possible

as a fanfic writer who just started getting more into the community aspect, all of my favourite writers that write for my favourite pairings feel like legitimate celebrities to me, and so it is actually crazy to me to get comments or likes or follows or reposts by them

yet another question for the writers of tumblr, but this time around, it is for fanfic writers & the fanfic writers alone...

in the fan-fiction community, i think we've pretty much all come to accept the existence of the fanfic writer curse (for those who don't know what that means, it typically refers to fanfic writers often experiencing crazy things like car crashes or personal problems that stop them from updating for a bit).

i've heard so many different, crazy stories of fanfic curses in different places, and so, i figured why don't we compile a bunch of them, all in one post?

so... fanfic writers of tumblr, what is the worst occurrence of the fanfic curse you've ever experienced?
