Hey guys I just queued up 30 some headcanons. They'll post 10 a day and that's it. I'm retiring this blog. I won't delete it. You wrote most of it. But I already disabled the inbox. I'm shutting it down.

I've been doing this blog for 9 years. Since 2014. A lot has happened. I lost my virginity. Moved out of my parents house. Fell in love. Got fired from the library. Switched careers. Moved in with girlfriend. Joined a startup. Start up went under. Came out to my sibling, my mom, and Facebook. In that exact order!

Nothing went wrong with this. I ran it exactly as I wanted to. It just doesn't make me happy anymore. All of you have been great and I love reading what you wrote. But i feel this is the end of the blog for me. I want to try other creative nerdy things online. Like the podcast or write my short stories. This is just me riding into the sunset as I say goodbye to you wonderful weird folk!

Be gay. Do crime. If you are gay you can always be gayer. All cops ARE bastards. Free Palestine. Unionize. Protect trans kids. Vote blue or if you don't at least we all die at the same time and that's something. 🤯 wear sunscreen drink water.

There’s apparently been a rumour going around that @sciencetynan, the person that runs this blog and has been running it since I created it in 2014 has left the blog and @el-shab-hussein has been running it.

This is not true. He has been helping me run the blog for months by queuing articles along with @politicsofcanada and 1 new member @sowbug , particularly with regards to issues surrounding Palestine (as he is Palestinian).

I have always had complete control on what gets posted on this blog and no one is controlling or taking over the blog. I just needed blog helpers as I was dealing with wrist injuries and then once that got better I got a part time job 3-5 days a week with a long commute so I needed help getting the articles I selected queued. I allow him to make posts as well about protests going in, but they’ve been vetted by me.

Hopefully this clears everything up. I’m sorry that the situation around Israel and Palestine has created conspiracy theories and lies that I now have to debunk.

Let me assure you that I have always been Pro-Palestinian, and that I have personally sent dozens of Pro-Palestinian articles to my blog helpers to be posted. This isn't an agenda from any of my blog helpers. The last time this conflict erupted and I took this stance I was flooded by zionists in my asks accusing me for being anti-Semitic for criticizing the Israeli government for violating International Law.

The Battle of Grunwald: so basically in 1410 Poles with their king Jagiełło and their amazing Lithuanian allies defeated the Teutonic Order in a great battle and it became super symbolically important bc wahooo victory over the Germans (remember all of these were painted while Poland was partitioned). The guy in the white cape is the grand master of the Teutonic Order, the one in red in the middle is the Lithuanian ruler prince Vytautas. i feel like im back in my 2014 hetalia days

The Prussian Homage: blah blah the Teutonic Order evolved into the state of Prussia and in 1525 they decided to become the subjects of the Polish king. Another one nicely symbolic if you live in the 19th century and want to show the middle finger to the Prussians/Germans.

The Union of Lublin: basically when Poland and Lithuania became one country (Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth) in 1569. The guy with the cross is the king Zygmunt II August (in the round 1 minigame we had Simmler's painting of him and his dying wife Barbara Radziwiłłówna)

Bathory at Pskov: Russian forces asking the king Stefan Batory for peace during the siege of Pskov (you guessed it, this one is to show the middle finger to the Russians). ngl i dont know shit about this period in history so. go read up on it on wikipedia. King Batory is the manspreading chad in the gold cape

Rejtan (The Fall of Poland): Tadeusz Rejtan was a deputy in the Partition Sejm of 1773 (basically russia going ''heyyyyy poland and lithuania, could you pls officially agree to give away like half of ur territories to us and prussia and austria'') (fr im having 2014 hetalia flashbacks writing this) and he hated it all so much he bared his chest about it and tried to not let the other deputies out of the chamber.

Constitution of 3 May 1791: first constitution in Europe, second in the world babeyyyy. big win for the Polish enlightenment. attempt to reform the country while it was at its lowest. many cool ideas. so cool that russia, prussia and austria felt it was time to wipe the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth from the map :/ so sadly there wasnt enough time for the reforms to work

This is the fourth in our occasional series featuring luminaries of stage and screen with a strong personal and/or professional connection with Northeast England, inspired with thanks by @robbielewis. Previous profiles were of Jean Heywood, John Nightingale and Edward Wilson. This time, Sunderland born actor siblings Malcolm and Catherine Terris.

Malcolm Terris was born on January 11th, 1941, boarded at Barnard Castle School in County Durham, then worked as a cadet journalist at the Sunderland Echo before training as an actor.

He was active on British television from 1963, his style perfectly suited to larger than life characters, and is possibly best remembered for his role as Great War veteran and salt-of the-earth union leader, Matt Headley, in 34 episodes of the Tyneside interwar social-realism drama, When the Boat Comes In.

His more than 120 recorded screen credits include a variety of British television programmes, including Fall of Eagles, Doctor Who (Horns of Nimon, 1979), Reilly: Ace of Spies, three separate roles in Coronation Street, Our Friends in the North, The Bill, and a regular role in Rockliffe’s Babies. His final appearance was in Midsomer Murders in 2011.

His big screen appearances include as ship’s surgeon, with Anthony Hopkins as Bligh and Mel Gibson as Fletcher Christian, in The Bounty (1984), with Ricky Tomlinson in Mike Bassett: England Manager, and in Dickie Attenborough’s Chaplin, which starred Robert Downey Jnr in the title role. He has also appeared on stage including in productions of Othello and in a Broadway production of Hamlet.

He passed away at the artistes residential care home, Denville Hall, on June 6th, 2020, aged 79.

Catherine Terris was born in 1948, and trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). She has been active in British television since 1972, appearing with her brother in seven episodes of When the Boat Comes In. Her other television work includes Z Cars, two roles in Coronation Street, Anna Karenina, Inspector Morse, Dalziel and Pascoe, Heartbeat, George Gently, and a regular role (15 episodes) in William and Mary with Martin Clunes and Julie Graham. She also appeared in the hugely successful feature film, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

According to her page on the Coronation Street fan site, Corriepedia:

"...On stage she has appeared in productions of Faustus, A Rite Kwik Metal Tata, Andy Capp, Tight at the Back, Rose, Tom Jones, Billy Liar, Queuing for Everest and Into the Blue..."

Her most recent television screen credit is In the Club (BBC 2014-16) and latest big screen appearance was in the 2021 feature film, Martyrs Lane.

Honestly? I don't know. Do I think there were still feelings there? Yes. Do I think there was still some kind of physical relationship (hence things like the Calvin receipt)? Probably. But do I think things were getting sticky and perhaps had been since late 2013 or early 2014? Sort of, yeah.

It's funny because I had a gif queued from the "Dodgeball with One Direction" video where Louis accidentally puts his hand on top of Harry's when the team was huddling, and then pulls it away when he realizes. I know most people think Louis did that so people wouldn't speculate, which could have been the case, but I'm not so sure. I'd have to go back and watch the video again, but I think Harry and Louis were noticeably hesitant and awkward around each other, in a way that I could only describe as how you'd act around an recent ex. The same thing happens when Harry makes a good shot and everyone runs up to congratulate him. Louis touches his waist and then immediately draws back and walks away. Anyway, I know that's a video that people think is filled to the brim with "cute Larry moments." But I remember seeing it kind of differently.

Of Soap and Shampoo

Word Count: ~1,210 Fandom: Homestuck  Summary: It wasn't that Gamzee was ever really clean. No, there was always some manner of mess, some level of dishevelment, some form of dirt that was on the guy. Yet, as of late, it was getting worse; worse to the point that perhaps it was time he, Karkat Vantas, handled the issue.

"Dude, stop squirming. Seriously, I am going to end up hurting you due to the fact that, for some reason, the concept of staying still somehow manages to allude you. Besides, I wouldn't have to sit you down and do this, but for some horrifically inexplicable reason, you cannot regularly take care of yourself in even the most basic of fashions. Both hygienically and otherwise, " the Vantas groused, hands testing the soapy water that currently enveloped the clown. It was hot, admittedly, but it was a necessity. Judging by a few of the deeper scratches' puss-infused state plus the particularly nasty knot that was Gamzee's mane, borderline scalding water was needed. If the hissing and glowering was to be taken as a hint, then he was certain that his moirail wasn't enjoying the bathing session at the moment. Yet, brow furrowed and lips pulled back in a miserable attempt of a snarl, the Capricorn was more so a pathetic sight rather than a terrifying one when taking into account how drooping his sharp features were, how gnarled hair was all but soaked, and how ratty tendrils clung to bare skin.

                                     The guy was absolutely pitiable.

                                                            Really.

"Don't give me that face, Gamzee Makara, or so help me God, I'll give you a reason to pout like the overgrown wriggler you are." Karkat grumbled, rolling his eyes, before reaching out for the nearest container of soap.

"Motherfucker, you're here trying to boil a brother. Why you got to be all mean like that? Seriously, shit’s already nine kinds of hurt to me and to these wicked feelings I got for you."

"Well, I'm so sorry this hurts, but you, sadly, need some help. Seriously. A lot of it, apparently, and cleaning your technicolored ass up is the first thing on my list of 'Things to do for my number one Juggaloser'. What the hell were you even doing, anyways? Did you just go to the middle of the meteor, pile together our friends' corpses and roll around in it like some impulsive, psychopathic barkbeast? You stink, and on top of that, you have more knots in your hair than a ball of string thrown out into the midst of a tornado, then blindly strung back together by a person who has never seen nor heard, let alone touched something like it before; some of these knots are honestly--Ugh, is this Faygo?!"

Fingers, previously coated in the thick shampoo, had just began to attack the mange that was his friend's hair when a particularly sickly sweet, sugar encrusted gnarl caught his attention. Jaw set, he leaned forward, digits entangling in the wild curls as he attempted to scrub out the sap-like nonsense. Giving yet another hiss, Gamzee snapped, shoulders hunched.

"Ouch, man! Ain't no need to be so fuckin' brutal--"

"--Then start drinking your carbonated sugar-syrup instead of wearing it! How does it even get in the back?"

"The miraculous methods in which our blessed nectar cannot be contained by mere reason and shit is a mystery to all those who are unwilling to see, my bodacious buddy."

".......That doesn't even make sense, but instead of further questioning you about it, I'll think I'll just drop the topic since the current level of dumbass I have to handle is already at full capacity. Move your arm a bit."

At once, the Makara leans to the side, lifting his arm as Karkat's eyes rove over a particular nasty scratch along his ribcage; its ragged, indigo-purple line stretching from underneath his bloodpusher all along his side in a jagged, slanted manner. Clucking his tongue, he removes his attention from the matted hair to the wound instead.

"How did this happen?"

"Clothes kept gettin' caught on all them little loose screws and also kept making a brother all slick because it gets hella hot when you fuckers turn on the damn heat, so I took 'em off, y'know, because the shit was getting hinderin’. Anyways, some bent panel caught me, man, when I was movin' and trying switch ways."

"So, " Karkat replied, quirking a brow as he dipped a rag into the opaque waters, "You're telling me you that you were crawling around the vents sweaty and completely naked, then? Is this what I'm hearing?"

"Of course not, my precious little brother. Nah, I had some face paint on then. Can't be too scandalous, now can I?"

He gave a leering smiling, winking, before abruptly hissing as the soap-and-water drenched cloth was pressed against the stinging cut. Shooting a glower over at the Vantas, the clown lapsed into a momentary, pouting silence while his friend continued to wash away the crusted scab along the shallow, possibly infected gash. Then, after the moment of gentle scrubbing passed, Karkat leaned back once more.

"You're an idiot. You know this right? Look, from now on, while in the vents, we're making a rule that says you have to always be dressed no matter how hot or cold it gets. I'll try and keep better track of the temperature so you aren't being cooked alive, but if the heat gets too bad, you can hunker down in my block anytime. Honestly, I don't mind so long as you keep your stupid horns off the floor and wash your face before you try to hug me or something. Funnily enough, I don't like having that clown sludge on me. It's probably toxic and literally stains everything."

Returning to the other's curls, he continues his efforts to detangle the majority of it by hand. Perhaps, once the Makara was at least partially clothed and somewhat dry and bandaged, he could take an actual comb to it. Truly, how did it even get this bad? Shaking his head, the ministrations were slowed as fingertips worked the soap down into the pitch locks further. A hum in response was all he received in response to his offer, though the gangly Highblood came to lean back into the massaging motion, nuzzling Karkat's hand whenever it ventured too close to his eyes or mouth or just his face in general. The bathing process continued in comfortable silence. Blood, crusted or freshly dripping, was washed away. Grime, dust, and dirt was scrubbed off and into the water. Knots were, eventually undone by the constant attack of stubborn digits and globs of scented shampoo. In the end, as the Vantas was drying his hands, did Gamzee break the quiet.

"Yo, Karkat?"

"What, Gamzee?"

" 'M pale for you."

"Yeah, " a slight smile graced Karkat's features before he muttered, "Pale for you too."

Rolling forward, the Capricorn extends his hand, fingers spreading to form half of a diamond. Dripping, grinning, and so flawlessly relaxed, it was hard to not return the gesture. Relenting, Karkat stepped back over to the fellow and, with a firm nod, finished the other half.

"Moirails till the end?"

"Till the end, Karbro."
