Queers will say ACAB, and in the very next breath try to police other queers' identities. It's exhausting. . Discourse seems to be a constant "crabs in a bucket mentality" about what part of the community we throw under the bus. . Are he/him lesbians valid? Can you call yourself a bi lesbian? Is it femboy erasure to come out as trans? Do xenogenders count as trans? Is it okay for trans men to like their breasts? Are you allowed to use it/its pronouns? . Y'all, have you never heard of solidarity? . "Queer" is a categorization that defies categorization, and identities within that are often messy. Let the people in our community express themselves in whatever way feels right to them, and don't give them any grief about it. . Because if that he/him bi lesbian fights fascism, he is doing more to improve material conditions for us all than any of the liberal queers engaging in d i s c o u r s e on Twitter about whether or not that's a valid identity. . Do I get these identities? No. But I also don't get trans men because my entire experience with masculinity was wishing I didn't have to perform it. 10/13/17 This is my favorite shirt. Before I began to accept myself as possibly being trans, I refused to wear anything pink. Silly right? I was literally THAT guy, who was so insecure with my gender that I chose a certain color to avoid being seen as “too feminine”. Everything is coming together, everything is starting to make sense. I like looking and feeling strong, I like the way my binder flattens my chest and really draws attention to the broadness of my shoulders. Everything I grew up hating about myself, everything I was always so insecure about, are the things I’m starting to love because I’m beginning to accept that I was just born in the wrong body, and my build, and the way I feel inside, was always meant to be a man. I could never fit into the feminine look even if I tried. The watch is also a new thing. I always avoided watches because I thought lesbians with big watches were literally the epitome of a “dyke”. But I don’t care anymore. Call me a dyke all you want, I know I’m taking steps to becoming a dude, and what I claim to be a derogatory remark, will no longer be something I feel shameful about because I will have transitioned to a man. Which I’m sure will bring on its own slew of names, but I want care, because I’ll finally be happy in the body that makes me my most authentic self. So the watch makes me feel like my arms look stronger, like I’m more serious, like I’m more masculine. And last, but not least, I love my hair. I wish I had chopped it off sooner and not been so scared about what other people thought. My short hair makes me feel the most like myself, and I take pride in it tremendously, especially because it was something I was so scared to do. I’m so happy that I’m on the right path. I’m so happy that I’m beginning to love my body that I’ve always hated. I’m seeing through an entirely new glass and seeing myself for the first time ever as a guy…and it all makes sense. It makes me proud; I know I’ll be a better man than most.

The purpose of right wing media is to tell people who've never experienced things how they work in the most frightening way possible. . Remember when conservatives were losing their mind over WOKE INDOCTRINATION ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES? The way they talked about it, they made it seem like there were armed guards at the gates forcing you to declare your pronouns or whatever. . How many of the people who actually believed that junk do you think have ever actually set foot on a college campus? . But it must be true because the fancy man on TV said it is! And the fancy man is my friend because he tells me what is true every day. . Keep this in mind as you listen to people talk. What are they talking about, and what direct experience do they have with it? . Sure, nobody can experience everything. But when you find someone speaking authoritatively on a subject they have no real experience on, ask them how they know. Eventually, the best answer you'll get is "a guy told me," or "just watch this video bro trust me" . And, fine. . But that doesn't make them an authority on the subject. . When it comes to movements working toward social change, it can be hard to suss out the bad actors from those who genuinely want to make things better. . After all, it seems like nobody is actually happy with the direction the world is headed - on that, at least, it seems like we can all agree. . In my experience, I've found that broadly speaking, there are three types of social movements. . The first are movements led by the ultra rich. Those can be dismissed outright. The ultra rich never have our best interests in mind. . There are movements that recognize the status quo, that are unhappy with it, that recognize the injustice built into it, and that work to reorient society in a way that creates a new, more just, status quo. . There are other movements that recognize the status quo, but they're not unhappy that it exists - they just don't like their place in it. . Does a movement seem to be motivated by justice or self interest? . There are shades of grey, of course, but the former is something I can back. The latter, not so much. . Yeah, Trump released that video. Yeah, it's awful. Yeah, the latest assault on trans rights is horrifying. . But it's clearly not working. . Take a look at UK currently. As I write this, half a million people in Britain have taken the streets in London to demand changes. The cost of living there is skyrocketing, and wages aren't keeping up. . The working class is being squeezed tighter than ever before, and at least in UK, people are fed up and taking action. . It's not in the news, because of course it isn't. But guess what is? The nonstop coverage of trans issues. Trans people and our allies are outraged at it all - and rightfully so. But the more we have to focus on protecting trans rights, the less we focus on the thousands of ways the billionaire class is fucking the 99.9% of humanity every single day. . Based on polling in both the US and UK, few seem to be swayed one way or another by the onslaught on trans rights. Allies are still allies, transphobes are still transphobes. But I think the former is starting to realize they have more in common with a blue haired they/them than they do the billionaire class. . So today, I stumbled upon a bookstore while exploring in Capitol Hill. As I aimlessly wondered around the bookstore, in search of the poetry section, I was drawn into the Gender/Queer Studies section an decided to browse through those books.  For the first time I ever, I was consumed by something in a bookstore other than poetry... I spent almost 45 minutes there, looking for answers, looking for guidance..wondering if any of these people who live inside these books ever felt as lost and confused as I do now.  Because Im pretty comfortable in the PNW and everyones seemingly open-minded ideas, I had no reservations about opening flipping through books frantically, in search of my missing pieces... Back home, I would have looked over my shoulder every second, and felt awkward just being in that general area. But I was comfortable here...almost felt some sort of support in the fact that no one seemed to care that some dyke was hanging out in the transgender section of the bookstore. I realized today, that dyke being associated with female is probably why I hate the word so much...and that’s the first time it’s ever clicked. I cringe at the word and hate it when anyone uses it to describe me and I just now realized it’s because I don’t want to be seen as a strong statured female, I want to be perceived as a strong, tough, male.  And even that is a stretch to say... I feel like when it comes to the spectrum, I for sure lie more with identifying as a male.. But I wouldn’t go as far to say I am a male... I don’t know if it’s fear holding me back from accepting it or if it’s truly just not how I feel but trust me when I tell you, it’s a terrible feeling not being able to trust what your gender even is. I envy the people who lead their lives with such certainty... People who never have to question their sexuality or gender identity or any of the stuff that, to me, feels like it should just come easily.  I don't believe I was born in the right body, but I also don’t believe I was born in the wrong one. I wonder why God would grow me in a womans body if he didn’t want me to be a woman...why would he create this functional, healthy body, if this wasn’t meant to be? But what I feel inside makes me question everything, and the fact that I’m becoming more open about talking about my gender identity, the fact that I wondered into a gender section of a bookstore, and even the fact thatI’m making this very blog, makes me believe that it’s something I need to face more and more everyday...It’s something I need to come to terms with. When I was back home about a month ago, I had my parents kind of open up the conversation to allow me to come out to them if I wished. I’m not ready to make it permanent...I’m not ready to even begin to throw that curveball to my very conservative parents...But I was proud and happy....and also completely surprised, that they opened it up in the only way they knew how to... I just wasn’t ready to take the plunge. Knowing my parents may be open to the fact that I could be trans relieves so much stress for me, but it’s still not enough if I can’t even come to terms with it in myself... I don’t want to be a “freak”....I don’t want to face the awkward stages of transitioning, and I don’t want to make my own life hard... This is a big thing that I struggle with....wondering if some things are better left not acted upon...Wondering if I just stay the way I am, maybe I could be happy, living the life I’m meant to lead in the body I was born in... But even despite an actual title, I hate my boobs. I hate the way they look, I hate the way they feel...I hate the way it feels like I’m carrying the weight of a burden every single day (literally). I dream of days a flat chest would make my shirts flow better....how I’d instantly look 15 pounds less heavy because I wasn’t carrying these massive jugs attached to my chest.... I’m so thankful the PNW has opened my eyes even more to to the fact that my body may not align with my gender because I believe it’s something I’ve struggled with for a long time now. It’s crazy how deep into burying a hatchet you can get that you don’t even realize what haunts you.. I’m tired of running scared from what might be my truth. I’m ready to work through the cobwebs and face my own truth... Whatever it takes, I’m slowly accepting that I’m wading in the grey... No more black and white, there’s so much grey in my life, and I’m ready to accept whatever shade fits who I’m meant to be.

Has transitioning, overall, been a positive experience for you? . I was talking about this with my partner recently - we both revel in our transness and, while we wish certain things may have been different, we don't regret being trans. . Personally, I'm deeply grateful for being trans. It's brought moments of crushing pain and sorrow that felt like they might never end, but also some of the greatest moments of ecstacy I've ever experienced. The latter far outweighs the former. . I dunno homie this shit is dope imo. . But I also know a not insignificant number of trans people who view transness as an almost universal negative, by definition. I can understand how fortunate I've been - middle class, white, living in a relatively progressive country - but I just can't relate. . What do you think? So much of all the conservative noise right now feels like ideological death throes. . It's scary. . But they've lost the general public, and they know it. . They're throwing everything they can at the wall, and none of it is really sticking. . So many of their efforts are devoted to making them seem like their ideas are more popular than they really are. . They have a bunch of fake followers on Twitter. They become "bestselling authors" because of conservative groups who buy large quantities of their books in bulk. They have multibillion dollar media empires designed to spew their hatred nonstop. . And yet, none of it seems to really move the barometer one way or another. . The right of LGBTQIA+ to get married, adopt kids, have equal access to job opportunities, inherit from their partner, live free of discrimination, and even for trans people to be allowed to use the correct washroom, has been steadily improving over the last 20 or so years, according to Gallup polls. . When asked an open ended question about LGBTQIA+ people and how their views have changed, the most common answers are thet they're more tolerant, more educated, didn't properly understand the issue before, and that they've changed their mind. . Don't let the right wing screech show distract you. The tides ARE changing. Things ARE getting better. This latest push is a last ditch effort by the forces of hate to continue to divide us. . Y'all I'm so excited to announce that episode 2 of my transgender ancient history series We Have Always Existed is launching today! . This episode is on the Scythians, a now extinct culture that lived around the northern coast of the Black Sea, in what's now Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Georgia, and part of Russia. And while we have very clear evidence of a transgender tradition in Scythian culture, that's *not* the most interesting thing I discovered in my research. . The anti trans lobby is pushing a narrative that “children cannot consent to hormones", which is interesting only because of how blatantly wrong it is. . In fact, there are far more hormones in the human body than the ones we use to trans our genders. They're given to children on a regular basis, and nobody bats an eye. . Insulin is a hormone, and without it, children with diabetes will die. Yet nobody is protesting that children cannot consent to insulin. . Children with hypothyroidism, a condition that causes their thyroid to be underactive, may be given supplementary triiodothyronine, which is the hormone their thyroid ought to be producing but isn't. Nobody cares about this either. . If your kid has trouble falling asleep, you might head to your local drug store and get them a melatonin supplement. This is a hormone as well, and again nobody cares. . We see these things as healthcare, and rightfully so. Transgender hormone therapy is, of course, healthcare too, but as soon as you mention it, Mrs. Lovejoy pops up to scream PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN . But this is all beside the point. . The whole reason we have "minor" as a recognized class of people is because children don't know stuff, so their parents/guardians are there to make decisions for them based on the best knowledge at the time. And when you have tons of credible research showing that gender affirming HRT is a good thing, and a few disgraced quacks and angry men with no credentials pushing against it, the decision seems obvious doesn't it? .
