I started a new thing for my local game store: A Bounty board. Each week ill post 4-6 quest prompts dms can use when they're in a bind. I figured I share them here. all of the fish in the harbor and along the coast are suddenly gone. Find out what happened. - a animating hat has popped up, whatever it lands on is permanently animated and the hat passes on. Find the hat and destroy it. -The local wizard has died from exhaustion. Investigation of his tower finds a tarrasque egg thats been frozen in time, but the spells wearing off. Get the egg as far away as possible before it hatches -Overnight, a entire orphanage goes missing. Investigation shows a giant hole in the ground of the main room. Find out what happened. -A portal has opened in the nearby woods. The emerald enclave is asking for assistance in investigating and closing the portal -all of the kobolds that work in the sewers are suddenly in the streets and refuse to go back down. They seem terrified of something. -the local wizard has up and went missing after a magical explosion in his tower. Look for clues to help bring the regions wizard back. - The river barge needs protection as it makes its way through a particular nasty part of the region - all of the goblins in the area are suddenly migrating-or fleeing, noones really sure which. -the prisons in the towns dungeon has suffered a breach. Something came through the floor and ate the guards and prisoner's. -The local druid got drunk one night and polymorphed his cows and sheep into birds. They're now lost in the woods, probably stuck in trees. -Three hill giants were seen in the area days before the great feast. Either protect the town or take care of the giants. -The court jesters babbling accidentally summoned a fiend thats now on the loose. Find it before it kills the princess -a orphan has been passed from family to family, but each one ends up dead. Find out what happened and help the kid find a home. -a abandoned wizards tower has attracted the attention of a roosting roc . The local towns are terrified. -new -dhax The Returned, a beholder of renown, has mysteriously requested aid from a group of adventurers. All that you know from his reputation is that Dhax travels the planes alot and is a collector of sorts. -The local miners have requested help. They report hearing odd clicks coming from one of the new tunnel passages. They two that went to investigate never returned. -The mountain pass has become home to a mating pair of remoraz's. The small town on the other side desperately needs supplies. They are actively seeking heroes to dispatch of the mating pair. A local wizard has requested the fire glands for additional payment. -A local fishing hole has suddenly attracted gungs . They seem to be worshiping something in the water. The city request aid I, investigating. -A group of lizardfolk have begun taming and domesticating rust monsters to aid in caravan ambushes. Get rid of them before the knowledge spreads, for the sake of everyone.

Nell’ottobre del 2002 andai al mio primo concerto black metal: Horna e Taake a Padova. Fra una band e l’altra conobbi Ferdinando dei Forgotten Tomb che, fresco del suo debut sotto Selbstmord, girava con una sacca piena di maglie e cd da vendere. Presi il suo album, maglia e cd del secondo capitolo degli Shining e Terror Propaganda dei Craft, perché “questi stanno andando forte”, mi disse. All’epoca un po’ di roba si comprava per aver letto qualcosa di fortuna su Grind Zone o chissà quale webzine; altro per associazione di etichette o di idee: presi Terror Propaganda perché mi fidai e perché quella copertina ricordava tanto Transilvanian Hunger. Tornando in macchina infilammo il misterioso cd e la sensazione fu qualcosa di unico e inimitabile, qualcosa che solo gli stessi Craft poterono ri-confermare con la ristampa del già introvabile primo album Total Soul Rape: un bel fist-fucking con l’indiretta incapacità di urlare.

White Noise And Black Metal torna a sette anni di distanza dal precedente Void – la prova forse più catastrofica (in senso buono) degli svedesi – e subito si dimostra carico della malignità e dell’efficacia dei Craft. Quelle che sono sempre state le paranoie di Joakim e John si concretano in riff cacofonici, capaci di rovesciare il mondo sopra la testa dell’ascoltatore. Dimenticatevi qualsiasi finezza o tecnica in stile Deathspell Omega, Aosoth o Bölzer: i Craft rimangono fedeli al loro stile che dissòna e tormenta conservando la semplicità più diretta. La maggior parte dei brani è costruita intorno a uno stesso riff che si ripete, cambiando poco a poco di strofa in strofa. Tutta “The Cosmic Sphere Falls” è costruita su questo concetto e anche la successiva “Again” ha poche variazioni a livello di trame chitarristiche. È la batteria a orchestrare quest’apocalisse: i Craft creano dei riff solidi che piano piano vanno a minare il loro stesso terreno; la sezione ritmica, invece, distrugge tutto al momento giusto, ribaltando gli ordini dell’universo, buttando l’ascoltatore dentro un buco nero. “Crimson” è forse il brano che lascia vedere maggiormente quest’idea di ripetizione infinita che ti fa venire da vomitare e ti fa crollare il mondo da sotto i piedi: gli arpeggi diventano riff thrash e poi si trasformano in synth, tanto per cullare l’ascoltatore in un disagio che avrà il suo apice in “YHVH’s Shadow”.

Sempre puntuali sono le citazioni dei gran maestri Darkthrone: “Undone” pare uscita da A Blaze In The Northern Sky e tra urla, echi e blast-beat si avvicina a “In The Shadows Of The Horns”. Il pezzo è uno dei più articolati dell’album nonostante si regga su quelle minime variazioni di cui parlavo: i cambi, gli stop, i raddoppi, l’uso della batteria riescono a creare comunque una sorta di monumentalità del nulla, il trionfo dell’austerità, l’elogio del nichilismo. “Darkness Falls”, dal canto suo, è l’unico momento groove: se in passato i Craft avevano più volte ripreso il black’n’roll dei Darkthrone del periodo Hate Them e Sardonic Wrath, ora tutto è più mitigato, minimizzato e semplificato, a riprendere i primi lavori di Fenriz e Nocturno Culto. Saranno i synth a stupirvi e ad aggiungere quel qualcosa di morboso e viscido che, unito al groove, vi riporterà bellissimi fasti dei vecchi Carpathian Forest.

I brani che concludono questo White Noise And Black Metal sono fra i più strazianti, ossessivi e dissonanti, e confermano i Craft come uno dei più riusciti aborti di tutto il panorama black metal dei giorni nostri. Un ritorno all’essenziale, diretto e senza compromessi, ingredienti per una panacea contro la maggior parte del panorama contemporaneo, fatto sempre più di atmosfere e decorativismi
