As I have a weekend to catch up on rest and reflect on the past week I find myself overwhelmed with emotions. This isn't anything new haha after big events I am like this. This conference ignited a new fire within me. 🔥 Have I overcome other people putting me down or trying to tell me I couldn't accomplish certain academic or career goals? YES! 💯 However, have I gained the confidence to believe in MYSELF? No, I let the voice in my head tell me all the time I am not enough. I can't be a leader. I can't make change happen. Well I'm telling that voice to FINALLY shut up. My goals and plans are even bigger than ever and I will absolutely not let anything or anyone stop me (including myself). I am enough, I am smart enough, I am strong enough! I will be heard and be a voice for others. Here's to never giving up! I can't thank those that have loved and supported me through all the tears and heartache. Thank you. I wouldn't be here without the constant encouragement! I am very honored to have been 1 of 3 selected for this Equal Opportunity Scholarship award from the Equal Opportunity Section of the American Fisheries Society. I earned $500 to cover travel to attend this conference. My application was very honest and raw in regards to my experience as a young woman in the academia and fisheries fields. I look forward to being more involved and being very outspoken and an advocate for diversity and inclusion for women, Native people, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community in the fish and wildlife fields.
