LGBTQ Etsy Shops 2022

Pride season is coming up, which means it’s time for my annual “support queer creators!” post.

Due to the recent debacles with Etsy, I encourage people to check and see if shops have other platforms (i.e., their own website, Shopify, etc.) that they prefer people to buy from. But if not, many shops are okay with you buying through Etsy! It’s better than not supporting them at all. For that reason, most of these shops are on Etsy, but some of the links direct to other websites.

These earrings were made intentionally with the black and brown beads to show more representation for my LGBT & Two Spirit Afro-Indigenous and QTPOC relatives. LGBT pride has historically been euro-centric and white washed. The issues of QTPOC and Indigenous folks are often unheard and therefore unaddressed. We need to center folks with underrepresented identities and focus on moving forward with an intersectional approach that invites every aspect of their identity to the space. ▫️ To all of my Afro-indigenous and Black Indian Two Spirits, I’m sorry if you’ve ever felt isolated within your different communities. QueerKwe Design looks at #ypsipride a few weeks ago!! ... Pride has never felt like home for me as a two spirit person. “Fluid” This Pansexual Pride medallion reminds us of the fluid nature of gender and sexuality. This colonized space limits our understanding of our complex traditional views of gender and sexuality which focused less on genitals and sex and more on your individual gifts and roles within your family, clan, and community. There is this pressure to place ourselves within these forced binaries (man/woman, straight/gay, etc.), but that is extremely harmful for folks whose bodies and spirits exist outside of these rigid constructs. ▫️ To all of my two spirit & LGBTQ indigenous relatives that occupy space outside of these colonial binaries, hold onto our traditions. Miigwetch to all of my old and new niijiis (friends) that came out to “Beading with Becca” yesterday at American Indian Health & Family Services! This was my first time facilitating a beading workshop and it was a great experience. Everyone entered the space in a good way and the day was filled with culture, crafts, laughter, and great food! All that I know has been gifted to me in one way or another and I feel blessed to be able to share that with others. It was an amazing feeling to have over a dozen indigenous folks beading Rainbow Pride pins/keychains out on the lawn while having conversations about two spirits, gender, sexuality, colonialism and what we can do to decolonize the way we think about these things. This is what I imagined when I started QueerKwe Designs a year ago and yesterday it came to life in a whole new capacity. I’m thankful for the staff of AIHFS for their help and support for their two spirit community members. ▫️ I wanted to give a CHI MIIGWETCH to @kraziekwe and @anishinaabekween for helping me in the workshop and being the best friends I could ask for.
