It was fine.

It was all going to be fine.

.... Except it wasn't going to be fine.

And nothing was ever going to be fine again.

A hand took his and Oz was suddenly reminded that breathing was a thing.

"Hey, Oz if your really not up up to it I can just call and cancel." Said Qrow, the owner of the hand. Casting a worried look at Oz.

Oz cursed himself internally for allowing his anxiety to show in his face and worry Qrow.

Qrow who he knew was looking forward to this gathering for a week.

Who had spun him around and kissed him when Oz had agreed to join him.

Oz let his fingers brush Qrow's bracelets, bangles he called them. The cool metal helping to ground him to the here and now.

"No, I'll go"

Qrow looked at him, crimson eyes warm and searching. Before pressing a soft kiss on his forehead, a greatfulness he could never deliver in words.

"Alright, we better get changed than. Rides coming in an hour."

Oz nodded, wordlessly heading to his room where his outfit was laid out for him.

It was nothing short of beautiful.

Oz tentatively put it on, it was suprisingly comfortable despite its regal apperance. Gently taking the bangles Qrow provided him and letting them fall onto his wrists.

It was grounding, and the jingling they made as he caught himself in the mirror. he smiled.

It was a far cry from the itchy monkey suits he had been shoved into as a child.

Perhaps... Perhaps he'd be okay.

Seeing Qrow dressed in his clothes made Oz do a double take.

His partner was beautiful, but right now he was radiant.

Qrow looked Oz up and down and whistled. Oz chuckled, letting him take his hand "you don't look too shabby yourself." Qrow smiled, a blush growing on his cheeks as he rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.

"Yeah? I can clean up good. I'm just.. You look... Wow."

As smooth as ever.

Oz wasn't sure what to expect when the ship dropped them off in what seemed like the middle of the woods.

Qrow smiled his easy going smile and took Oz's hand, he didn't seemed suprised at all so Oz went with it.

"You sure? We can go back if you want?"

Oz smiled and kissed Qrows cheek, trust him to be worried.

"I'm okay"

He was terrified but he would do anything for Qrow.

Qrow nodded a little, kissing his forehead before taking him to a clearing where a bunch of tents were.

Oz knew without needing to be told who were Qrow's parents were.

Qormac Branwen was a very tall man, he towered over them both and yet when his eyes landed on Qrow he smiled with a softness in his eyes.

"Qrow"

Qrow lit up like a Christmas tree and bounced over to his dad who picked him up into a loving embrace.

"Dad!"

"Hey kiddo, it's good to see you again." Qormac said warmly "you doing alright? Been taking care of yourself?"

Qrow rolled his eyes but his smile never wavered "Yeah dad I have."

The shorter woman beside them, Merle Branwen cleared her throat looking at Qrow expectantly.

Oz at first thought she might be mad but there was a fondness in her eyes as she looked at her son and husband.

And Qrow easily wiggled out of his hands hug to embrace his mum who chuckled at his antics.

"Hey mum!"

"Hello dear, your as wild as always" she smiled and Qrow poured which made Oz chuckle.

He almost regretted it because now their attention was on him.

Qrow grinned, running ovef and taking Oz's hand before wandering back to his parents.

Oz bowed his head at them both in respect "Greetings, Mr and Mrs Branwen, I'm Eira Ozpin but everyone just calls me Oz."

Oz tried to stop himself from shaking.

He was terrified that Qrow's parents would immediately be able to see that he didn't belong here.

He never did.

To his suprise, Qormac put a suprisingly gentle hand on his shoulder and Oz looked up at him.

There was no trace of anger, nor disgust in his eyes. Not like Oz's own father in the times he had seen him.

Only warmth.

A warmth that made Oz feel like he'd been cold his entire life and only now could feel the temperature change.

"None of that now, I'm Qormac and this is my wife Merle. We're happy you came Oz."

Oz tried not to let his shock show.

They wanted him here?

"I'm glad we got your measurements right dear, you look lovely." Said Merle with a smile.

One that reminded him so much of the man he loved.

"Thank you Mrs Bra-... Merle. Thank you Merle. I love it. But you didn't have to go to all this trouble."

Merle waved him off "none of that now love. Your our new son afterall, and I will have nothing but the best for my family."

... Family...

She thought...

They saw him as family?

He hadn't known them barely 5 minutes but they had already deemed him to be their son?

Oz felt tears prick his eyes and was glad no one mentioned it when he wiped them away.

Qormac softened and Oz wandered if he understood.

"Well, let's get inside shall we. We've got much to talk about." Said Merle, before a mischievous smile appeared on her face "and a few baby albums to share."

"Mum!"

Oz laughed.

A full belly laugh that engulfed him in warmth, whetherf it was at the odd situation of Qrow's shreik he wasn't sure.

He let Merle take his hand and lead him inside with Qrow hot on his heels and Qormac not even bothering to hide his laugh.

The tent was cosy.

It felt like home in a way Oz's never had.

Their was a piece of all the Branwen's in their home and part of Oz hoped he could leave his own mark in their.

Oz spent the hours cooing and awhing at baby Qrow pictures (To Qrows embarrassment), listening to childhood stories from Merle and Qormac.

Ate a hearty dinner of food he'd never had before but would now never live without. Finding himself slotted at the table without feeling out of place.

"And know, this isn't a one time thing." Said Qormac, as he took the dishes away and Qrow fiddled with the record player.

"Your welcome here whenever you want son."

Oz smiled back, he wanted to come back.

He didn't know how they both adored him so much but he was happy.

Warm.

"I'd like that"

Qormac smiled, leaving the couple to stand togrther. With Merle having popped out to talk to some of the tribe.

"You did amazing" said Qrow, sweeping off his feet and into a hug.

"I didn't do anything" shrugged Oz and Qrow chuckled "you were yourself hun, and that's all you had to be. Told you they'd love you."

Oz hadn't believed it at the time.

But now...

"I love them too, and you I love you."

Qrow smiled, pressing play as the record began to spin and put his arms around his lover.

As both swayed and danced to the music.

"I love you too"

Nullification: a Detailed Look at Olivia’s Semblance

What is Nullification?

Olivia’s semblance is pretty self explanatory, her semblance nullifies the semblances of others.

How Olivia Uses her Semblance

Olivia doesn’t really “use” her semblance. Taking on similar properties to her pops (Qrow) in which she can’t control her semblance.

Because of this and her semblance ability, this causes lots of teasing in her life.

Discovery of Nullification

Olivia discovered her semblance through her pops. Who noticed one day that his own semblance hadn’t been effecting him, it’s unclear when exactly Olivia’s semblance first activated but it was noticed at the age of 8 for her.

When her pops had found out about her semblance, Olivia mentioned how she always wished she could help him with his semblance and says that she guessed her wish came true after wishing on so many stars. Her father cried after that in joy.

Environmental Factors and Benefits to Nullification

It’s believed that Olivia’s uncontrolled semblance is to be blamed by the Branwen genes, since her father, Qrow, her Grandfather, Qormac, and her great grandfather, Qrawford all have uncontrolled semblances.

Olivia’s semblance almost always comes in handy when she is by herself, working with others however, poses an issue with her allies being unable to use their semblances.

Ok the girls (Olivia and Qorbyn) are a good mix of both of their dads in terms of who they look like in specific situations.

Qorbyn looks like Oz all around in terms of facial expressions (even has his “bitch you fucked up” look), but she can also look like Qrow if she’s up to mischief (found out by her dads when she was little)

Most of Olivia’s expressions look like Qrow’s but more with Oz’s amount of expression, which isn’t a lot due to them both having Alexithymia.

Idk if I’ve ever actually stated this but Qorbyn’s short height (4’8-4’9 ish) is because of her lack of aura.

@nightmare-foundation and I actually played around with this idea when he was making Qorvus (OC of his whose a brother to the two sisters). Qorvus has the opposite issue that Qorbyn does, he makes too much aura, so he’s like, Qormac’s height, maybe a little shorter.

Nobody knows why Qormac is so giant because nobody knows who his relatives are on his dads side. It’s thought that he probably is that tall because of whoever his dad is.

Ozpin is actually super chill with his granddad. The girls actually get to meet him at a young age before he passes, his name was Myrtle Ozpin :D. (He really loved the girls)

Ozpin’s parents are not allowed to speak to his family unless they actually decide to become better people :’)

Qrow and Raven eventually find their parents, the family reunion is very sweet

Speaking of Raven, the girls are chill with her after Vacuo. Whenever the family is vacationing in Mistral they hang out and chat.

Raven actually cares about them a lot along with Ruby and Yang so-

So there’s that, a bunch of random facts about the fam to make up for my lack of talking about them.

Oh my gosh, they all have gorgeous eyes! -🐈‍⬛

I will take this as an opportunity to give y’all some eye facts about the predecessors :)

- Qorbyn gets her eye color not just from Ozpin but also from Merle!

- Qrow’s eyes are slightly lighter than Qormac’s because of Merle’s genes, his eye shape also looks more like Merle’s :D

- Alloy’s eyes are a more silvery color because of his overuse of his silver eyes, also hence the scars around his eyes.

- I always imagined that Silver eyes come in different shades, but have a few distinct features that help so you can tell if they’re silver and not just grey, for instance, the two little marks both of them have on the right side of their irises (this is actually canon to rwby!) and the fact that their eyes appearance metallic when light hits them.

- Summer and Ruby get their darker shade of silver from Valentina

- Red eyes are a dominant gene in the Branwen family, Hence Jackdaw, Qormac, Qrow and Raven, and Olivia all having red eyes.

- Silver and Golden eyes are recessive genes. Because of this, both of Ozpin’s parents don’t have golden eyes, while he and his grandfather do.

- Alloy sight gets progressively worse the more he overuses his silver eyes. At the time of the Young Leaders AU he’s mildly nearsighted and light sensitive. By the time of the Remnant Heirs AU his nearsightedness and light sensitivity are worse, thus requiring him to wear sunglasses in buildings with fluorescent lights or outside on sunny days, unless he wants to be left with a headache.

- Branwen eyes glow when they’re mad/emotional and also glow in the dark :)

- Ozpin’s eyes also glow in the dark but that’s because of magic stuff

- yes Qorbyn is bitter that her eyes don’t glow in the dark.

So, how would Qormac and/or Merle feel about Jackdaw meeting her grandkids?

What would a meeting between the twins be like with her?

So Jackdaw doesn’t even really get the chance to meet her grandkids.

As Merle (at age 14) promptly challenges her to a battle to the death for the title of chief and ends up killing her

But, in a hypothetical scenario where Jackdaw is still alive:

She wouldn’t be allowed anywhere near her grandkids.

After Qormac and Merle have the twins Qormac spends a lot of his time staring at and thinking about the kids and what they mean to him.

He just can’t wrap his head around his mom’s treatment of him. Was being a bastard child and a bringer of death that much of a burden that she felt the need to hurt him constantly like she did? Whatever the reason, he swears silently to never give the same sort of treatment to his kids, ever.

He’ll make sure they know nothing of what she did to him growing up. And that they never ever meet her.

Merle would be very protective of the twins at even the mention of her mother in law. Being trained into being the next spring maiden, she would take careful measures to ensure Raven would know how to take care of herself while still being very motherly to her, trying to show as much care towards her as possible. As for Qrow, she tries her best to reassure him when he finds out about his semblance, trying to make sure he doesn’t deal with the self hatred that his father got.

Merle eventually passing along the Maiden powers was never her intention. She doesn’t die, rather (mainly bc of a headcanon I have) just passes them along to Raven. But ultimately one she had to make when Salem’s people came knocking at her door.

Overall. No. Both in the hypothetical situation that she is alive, and in the canon of the predecessors and young leaders au, the Branwen twins know little to nothing about their grandmother.

Qormac: I’m looking for who would’ve been my biological “dad”. Just. Don’t tell Merle. She doesn’t want me associating myself with them because she believes they’re all just like Jackdaw.

I’m bargaining on a small sliver of hope that this man isn’t as awful as she thinks he is.

But I don’t have much hope.

The small bit of hope I have is that I have nothing to suggest that he knew where I was or that I even existed. The Corvae tribe is a very secluded and closed off tribe.

Before, the problems on the outside, were left for the outsiders to handle. we didn’t involve ourselves in external affairs. Many didn’t know we existed until they’d come across us, many didn’t live to tell anyone of who we were.

Of course, a lot of things changed when Merle became chief. And she began offering help and in turn we gained trade, getting weapons, food, resources. Opening up to the outside world was probably the best idea for the tribe, because we’ve been able to create docks for sailors and other merchants to come in and sell their stuff to us.

Anyways. Enough rambling.

There’s a good chance he doesn’t know I am even a living person, let alone his son. Jackdaw cut him off pretty hastily after having me.

So… I’m looking for him.

With this small piece of hope that he isn’t a horrible person.

I just hope Merle doesn’t find out, I think she’d be furious at me if she did.
