I think "Take Me Instead" would be really cool! What about this: Donnie finds a spell (or maybe gets cursed, up to you) that ends up transferring the damage his loved ones receive to himself instead, leaving them unharmed. He finds this to be perfectly acceptable and naturally neglects to inform his family of this.

Since their mutations increase their healing rates, overall things go unnoticed...up until an enemy gets frustrated with why their attacks keep getting shrugged off, and instead restrains the brothers and starts experimenting.

Donnie finds it quite difficult to hide the spell then, and said enemy, who is quite fascinated by it, continues to test it out--continues hurting the turtles, who can't feel a thing, who can only watch as their injuries open up on their soft-shelled brother.

i think unlike the other scenarios ive chosen with curses i might either make this something he inflicts upon himself or a spell he accidentally casts through picking up something weird, i dont think its something he'd do INTENTIONALLY but i do like the idea of himself finding his way into this situation and starting out trying to make the excuse of "i cant say anything because its my fault, IM the only one who can fix it anyway, and they'd probably make fun of me", because there's no specific person to pin it on, he thinks he's the one who made the fuck up. he made his bed now he lies in it

then he sees it actually save one of his brothers from something that could have been serious, and its when the idea that this is an acceptable good thing really starts to fester, especially if its the result of his own negligence in some way. they're not mad at him, but he knows they WOULD be if the spell hadn't been in place and his brother had actually gotten hurt, right? it'd been his failure. this is the punishment, because even though he knows they'd be angry at him he also knows he would've gotten off easy. deep down there's a part of him that feels like this is what he deserves for something like that the whole time. he had a job, and he failed.

and sure, maybe its bad and fucking agonizing to patch himself up, but donnie has fixed himself up before. maybe a little too much. nobody has to know...

(and not sure who i'd make the villain that ultimately reveals it yet, so im open to suggestions here!)

if tortured for information is still open, why not bring truth serum into it? dose all the brothers with some potion that has them constantly running their mouths with whatever is on their heads; less truth and more instinctive thought. make them all uncover each other's issues in some of the most uncomfortably violating ways, because these fics don't address that it definitely is not by proper consent.

OH THIS IS ACTUALLY BANGER but i think i would limit it to one character for simplicity's sake, just because if i tried to use it to address everyone i would go forever (and itd be way too similar to another square i have planned). cant choose between donnie or leo because theyre the most secretive two, and the ones who would be the most upset about having to reveal shit about themselves against their will

donnie helps out a small community of psychics in the hidden city, and as a gift, they give him a mystic artifact that promises to "heal his broken mind." what it does is instead suppress most of his emotions and trauma with a spell of false cheerfulness and obedience.

(i'm also viewing this as partially ableist, since it might be directed towards donnie's trauma but also smothers his neurodivergent traits in favor of creating a 'normal' persona)

this is actually a really cool concept i kind of want to steal although i already have something for the mind control prompt, so i might move it to internalized prejudice since it succeeds in the same things >:3 love donnie getting fucked over on accident and just rolling with it/not saying anything out of shame but i ALSO love when he accepts something genuinely self-destructive like this intentionally. because he thinks its for the better

donnie is caught by a villain who wants to send his brothers on a chase with a time limit. to do this, they hang donnie off a noose off a height just barely short enough for him to keep his windpipe clear by standing on tiptoe. his hands are bound, he doesnt have tech with him, if he slips he starts choking; all he can do is try to stay awake and keep his head as high as possible, hoping his brothers get to him in time

Sacrifice (this edges on character death; it's not permanent and implied instead of described, but i get it if you don't want it):

Donnie wakes up in the captivity of a cult who thinks that sacrificing a someone tainted with empyrean will awaken a god they worship. From his viewpoint, his family saves him moments from death--only, when they return home, he learns that wasn't always the case. His family remembers at least three months' worth of failed attempts at rescuing him, with second chances only bought by looping back the day through the power granted by his death (turns out the cult wasnt entirely bullshitting about their god)

THIS IS SUCH A COOL PROMPT WOAH i do love myself a time loop and there r so many implications here .... however im getting an Ideaaaa.... it might be more interesting if it was less the idea of him being "tainted" by empyrean and more the idea of him being a subject of it as an act of reverence based on him being so biologically close to it while other yokai are descendants of those first changed by it.

and it might make sense if this was post movie too, so one of them was captured for this because of all the attention brought to them because of it,,, because mikey's ninpo is so powerful im already thinking of donnie giving himself up to avoid mikey being the one caught in the crossfire because it creates wonderful beautiful B team angst and i can NEVER RESIST. so the sacrifice prompt has two meanings because he also sacrificed himself

like something about how canary continuity is this insane unfair punishment for donnie making a mistake out of childish selfishness and insecurity while this prompt would be him nearly dying because he DID THE RIGHT THING .... oough

im already super into the concept but id need to figure out an ending for it because one isnt coming to me (might make more sense for it to be donnie pov? make it a bit of a reveal for him to learn about it).... but this shit is banger dawg i am already falling for the concept (might be worth looking into japanese mythology as an idea for the deity theyre trying to summon? a call for the input of people smarter than me if anyone's got something fitting, there's always the option to leave it more ambiguous as well)

For starvation: future Donnie skips rations quite often, up until he doesn't eat at all. It's quite reasonable in his mind, Raph and Leo need all their strength to fight the kraang, Mikey needs all his strength to heal injuries and be the kind wise person people need.

Donnie is just the system maintenance. Sure, he's aware the systems are important. He is not, however. He's practically done with making sure they're independent.

Not to mention the people the turtles have to protect. Case and point, Casey Jr, he's young and needs to eat a lot to grow up healthy.

Don's been giving him his rations, it makes Casey happy. A happy Casey is, very conveniently, also a happy Leo.

im most tempted to write doomed future because i did just mention i was open to writing more of an ensemble cast and this makes it very tempting ........ I MIGHT GO WITH THIS FRRR. my brain is telling me to canary continuity beam it too and i might honestly do that because doomed timeline cc donnie could be so interesting

what if exclusion/rejection was a curse kind of opposite of coming undone; for some reason, donnie is UNABLE to touch his brothers, because if they do he feels agonizing pain

first scenario: if this is after the movie or smthing, everyone in general might be pretty touchy as a way to cope, and ofc they're careful and polite with him especially but donnie thinks a little pain is easy to endure to comfort his brothers

second scenario: they figure it out immediately and do their best to avoid touching him even as both sides really really want to hug or cuddle or even just hold hands, but the slightest brush of skin contact makes donnie scream and they just keep desperately searching for a cure

ive gotten so many good prompts for this but oooohhhh this is such a tantalizing idea and i can do you one better; similar to CU it also has to do the emotional response he has to it, so every time he trusts or feels safe with them it hurts too :)

Sorry I heard about putting Donnie in a robot and I wanted to jump in because I am really interested in the idea- in terms of plot, maybe it could be about convincing robo!Donnie to be human again? Like at first he's desperate to get back to his real body but eventually he starts thinking that maybe being a robot is better. His family finds out and theyre trying to figure out why he thinks himself being a robot is better than himself being biological. Especially if theres some kind of amnesia thrown in and the robot is just super skeptical of these strangers telling it to upload itself into a meat thing lol, but it could be a look into what Donnie sees as "useful" about himself that being a robot improves on but is told by his family that they want everything "useless" about him too

this is pretty close to most of the prompts i got about this, most people have proposed the idea of it being potentially an accident because of his abilities with technology and then he's a little too happy about abandoning the mortal coil which im honestly jiving with. it might not be a robot specifically but instead his computers/the systems in the lair because i feel like there's more that can be done with that

honestly it might be interesting if this was post-movie too and a partial response to the uhhh technodrome. of course he wants to become one with something potentially omnipresent. of course he feels happier and more useful as something bigger than himself. of course he's afraid of losing it all when he's already come so close to it. honestly his ability to do so in the first place could always be a parting gift from it

Mind Control!!!!

ok first of all caged lungs broke me. i love it but it broke me and it is the best mind-control thing i've ever read bc you rlly take the aftermath srsly and the slow, insidious, uncanny-vally way the brothers turn against donnie is!! so good!!! thats my fav type of mind control personally :)

anyway with that said i think anything else mind ocntrol related post clipped wings would be EXTRA traumatizing for the brothers. like we've seen the claustrophia and stuff for donnie but imagine that theyre on a mission and hypno does a mind control spell to make say leo attack his brothers and they all. um. they all react pretty viscerally. having your head messed with like that for so long is gonna be pretty traumatizing, so i think any situation where they feel smthing similar coming up, theyre deufaulting to panic and/or kill mode

honestly the CL mind control fascinates me because it'd still be a psychological horror from any of the OTHER'S perspectives. was just dropped in the newest chapter that leo genuinely felt horrified when he smacked donnie for the first time, which explains this line

like its horrible but i dont see it as an intentional guilt trip at all. it was like raph crying when he put his hands around his throat; it was one of the moments where they realized just how far this was gone and because of the curse thought why did you do this to me? they came so close to the realization that something was wrong and it redirected that fear and anger to pin it on donnie instead.

"i can't even look at you right now" is so loaded knowing what leo was going through.

okay i got distracted with some of the leo fighting back signs BUT YESS I WOULD LOVE TO UNPACK SOMETHING KINDA SIMILAR.... ive mentioned raph being kraangified as something that would fuck him up Bad but i think exploring something like that from leo's perspective would be really interesting especially considering how his coping mechanisms work. raph responded by shying away into himself and leo fought. he gentled around donnie but he lashed out at EVERYBODY after coming to, and it really only took kitsune kicking his teeth in to make him slow his roll.

hypno's mind control is very straightforward with how it operates though, it might be more interesting to do something that makes them more cognitively aware when they come back because i think it'd add to the trauma of the prompt. and also dear lord if it was JUST leo i could not imagine raph and mikey's reactions. because would there be a moment where they only see an enemy in the shape of their brother, spurred into attack mode BECAUSE of all the harm they watched leo inflict on donnie under the curse?? do they genuinely act aggressive towards him even after the control is broken out of suspicion, even though they logically know he didn't mean it, but they cant help it either because it was triggering too???

this especially works well knowing leo was the Worst when cursed. they witnessed leo harm donnie a lot, while in most cases with raph for example it was usually only behind closed doors.

not much of a prompt, but you said you were considering a scenario where post-cw donnie was stuck in solitary and his brothers would be forced to watch and it all ended in bloodshed, and i think you could prbly put this in recorded/broadcasted torture? Big Mama could be the main enemy here, if she wants something from the turtles and figures that hurting one of them would be the best way to do it, and makes the others watch through cameras. unfortunately she chooses donnie and to hurt him in a very personal way. her hotel does not come out intact if it remains standing at all

i originally got that prompt from an anon around like chapter 6-7 time when i mentioned that there are some complications left behind from the fact that donnie being in distress is a genuine trigger for them, which has been compounded by more events in the story (the way theyre already panicking even before they break down the door in chapter 11, and the way both raph and mikey act in 16. i think there's a really interesting dynamic to explore when donnie is triggered by his brothers and his brothers are triggered by donnie being upset, even though they all love each other so much and are trying so hard to make things work)

we never got to have our spring wedding .... BUT ALAS I WILL USE THIS PROMPT HERE BECAUSE ITS HEARTBREAKING!!!! and i get to write them all a little feral as a TREAT. beyond it being solitary i think the point as a method of torture would be to make it really really claustrophobic (smaller than the closet was!) so its going to be EXTRA triggering. fits big mama's love for more underhanded psychological tactics as well, especially since their refusal to say anything would be further punishment towards donnie. little does she know what's about to come to her LMAO

Suggestion for bullying!

I wonder if this could actually be for April- maybe we can take a look into what her life had to be like, as a kid who grew up the best friend of mutant turtles. I don't think she ever regretted it, but she still would've been the weird girl known for getting fired in the most bizarre accidents, who smells like a sewer most of the time, who keeps a baseball bat in her locker and knocks people out with one punch when she's surprised.

Honestly, I don't have that much of a concrete idea here? Just a look into April's mundane problems, which must be an interesting contrast to the other side of her life. Imagine having to deal with high school bullies and bigoted teachers, and your main coping mechanism ends up defaulting to at least you're not living underground ostracized by society getting beaten up by criminal every week. She probably minimizes her problems in comparison to her friends', though if any of them ever found out, they would absolutely throw themselves into helping her.

i kind of love how april is a chronic fumbler at times with getting to know people and how she can sometimes come off too strong, it really hits close to home as a neurodivergent kid who was super intense BDHSHGHDHG all of that subtle callous exclusion really gets to you, even if it never really crosses the precipice into bullying you can report, so its an opportunity to write some april angst (YIPPEE) and i can write from my own experiences a little!!! damn i even relate to her with the only ""friend"" she has in school is someone who's just a weird creep towards her,,, i hope sunita kept going to her school fr she deserves the company

raph starts filing down his spikes and claws to try to avoid accidentally hurting his brothers, maybe as a tot after an incident or maybe after the movie who knows, but he does it in private even though it hurts like scraping off bone. its not until donnie does a deeper dive into their biology that he figures out that its costing his big brother a lot more than he pretends it does

ouuhhhh i might do something more explosively horrible than that (i just got the idea of him hearing kraang voices since this was mentioned in a q/a that might happen and then forcibly restraining himself, but he's like on a mission so he quickly traps himself in something that's actually seriously harmful to him, to the horror and panic of his brothers) but i do like the idea of raph generally losing confidence in himself and his own strength especially post-movie once his head doesn't feel like his own and his own hands have been used to hurt one of his brothers ... it was already a big part of the appeal of cc (<- like with raph in particular i just like fucking him up like dat) so i will DO IT AGAIN GLEEFULLY (i might for sure use the idea of him filing his claws as set up to this though!! maybe a slower escalation .... oh god most of these fills are going to be in the 10k word or more mark arent they)

leo loses his arm really early in the invasion, before they have enough good medical supplies, but the worst part is that it happens when he and his brothers are all separated trying to gather together the resistance. his ragtag reluctant allies are the ones who have to work together to pitch in to get him through the surgery and the aftermath

like maybe we can see minor villains like repo or stockboy be involved in grudgingly caring about leo, or him developing stronger friendships with minor characters like sunita, or maybe even the purple dragons built him his first prosthetic to piss off donnie when they reunite again

and leo is a REALLY interesting character to not get into the head of,,,, showing him as a maturing leader from the perspective of people who normally have to look to him that dont understand all the little nuances of him like his family do..... im suddenly very invested in this idea. MINE NOW

since it was brought up before, how abougt claustrophobia for post-cw, specfically movie where donnie and mikey are in the tank? could be slightly canon divergent, as in backup doesnt arrive in time and the tank ends up crushed but they dont die cuz plot convenience, just pinned between all the wreckage. and donnie is panicking big time and mikeys tryin to help but they have to stay stuck there for dunno half an hour until april and splinter arrive

you know i knew i was gonna do the claustrophobia prompt for cc donnie because it was so perfect for him, but i was a little confused on what specifically id do in fear that itd end up samey to the other prompt im doing with him (the trapped in a cage/him being hacked and locked in his lab) but this is a REALLY good one so im definitely going with it!! breaking my vow of not covering movie events at all because this could technically just be an au, the kind of ambiguously canon nature of it works well for a bthb prompt anyhow
