#29 Karl Kassulke played safety for the Minnesota Vikings from 1963 through 1972. Karl was a hitter. The first photo is Karl in Super Bowl IV against KC Chiefs tackling running back Mike Garrett. The second photo is at the Vikings Colts Monday night game in 1971. If you get the chance, YouTube the November 15, 1970 game or highlights between the Vikings and the Detroit Lions. He destroyed Lions QB Greg Landry on a safety blitz. Laid him out. It looked like Landry had been shot. Karl was in a motorcycle accident the day before training camp started in 1973 which paralyzed him and ended his career. The 4th photo is Karl in a wheelchair at the Chicago Bears game in 1973 in which the Vikings honored Karl. Former Viking QB Joe Kapp is standing beside Karl as he speaks into a mic in the last photo. Karl passed away in 2008.

Football - Sports Videography Tips
Tumblr media
Avoid fumbling your chance to create engaging highlight reels and promotional football game videos. Understanding where to be and what to shoot can make the difference between an exciting, action-packed product or a series of uninspired, low-action, pieced-together shots.
Tumblr media
surroundedmedia.com assembled information about football positions, crucial game-defining plays, pro videography tips, and valuable insight to create expert highlight reels and exciting game footage for your clients.
Understanding Football Positions and Their Roles
To effectively film football, it’s essential to know the responsibilities of each position. This understanding ensures you’re prepared to focus on key moments as they unfold on the field.
Offensive Positions
Tumblr media
Quarterback (QB) - The offensive leader, the Quarterback directs plays and throws passes to receivers. Capturing their ability to make quick decisions and execute accurate throws is critical for highlight reels.
Running Back (RB) - These players specialize in carrying the ball on running plays and occasionally catching passes. Highlight their speed, agility, and ability to break tackles.
Wide Receiver (WR) - Known for catching passes, receivers rely on their speed and precision. Focus on their route running, spectacular catches, and yards gained after the catch.
Offensive Line (OL) - These players protect the quarterback and create running lanes. Although they may not make flashy plays, showcasing their blocks can illustrate team coordination.
Defensive Positions
Tumblr media
Defensive Line (DL) - Tasked with stopping the run and pressuring the quarterback, defensive linemen excel in tackles for loss and sacks. Capturing these moments is essential.
Linebackers (LB) - Versatile players who defend against both the run and pass. Look for interceptions, tackles, and blitzing plays.
Defensive Backs (DB) - Responsible for covering receivers and defending passes. Highlight their interceptions, pass deflections, and open-field tackles.
Special Teams
Tumblr media
Kickers/Punters - Capture their ability to deliver accurate and powerful kicks, including field goals and punts.
Return Specialists - Focus on their agility, speed, and ability to navigate through defenders during kick and punt returns.
The Best Plays to Capture
When filming a football game, knowing what to focus on ensures your footage is engaging and relevant. The following are key moments to capture:
1. Offensive Highlights
Tumblr media
Touchdowns - A touchdown is the pinnacle of offensive plays and should always be captured from start to finish.
Big Passes - Long completions or well-executed short passes that result in significant yardage are crucial.
Breakaway Runs - Highlight a running back or quarterback eluding defenders and gaining substantial yardage.
Spectacular Catches - Include one-handed grabs, toe-tapping sideline receptions, and contested catches.
2. Defensive Highlights
Tumblr media
Interceptions - Capturing a defender stealing the ball is a prime shot, especially if it leads to a return for a touchdown.
Sacks - Focus on defenders breaking through the offensive line to tackle the quarterback.
Big Hits - Legal, clean tackles demonstrating defensive dominance are highly impactful.
3. Special Teams Highlights
Long Returns - Kick or punt returns for significant yardage or touchdowns make for thrilling footage.
Clutch Kicks - Game-winning field goals or long punts that flip field position are valuable moments.
4. Team Celebrations and Sideline Moments
Tumblr media
Including celebrations, team huddles, and sideline reactions can add emotional depth and context to your video.
Creating a Sensational Highlight Reel
A highlight reel is a carefully curated showcase of the best moments. It should tell a story, highlight individual or team achievements, and engage the viewer from start to finish. Here’s how to craft a standout highlight reel:
1. Plan the Narrative
Determine the purpose of the highlight reel. Is it for a player’s recruitment? A team’s season recap? Tailoring the video to its audience will influence how you organize and edit footage.
2. Focus on Key Components
Opening Sequence - Start with an attention-grabbing play or moment. A long touchdown, a spectacular catch, or a big hit can hook the viewer immediately.
Consistency - Include a mix of plays demonstrating a player’s versatility or a team’s coordination. For example, a quarterback’s reel should showcase passing accuracy, poise under pressure, and decision-making.
High-Quality Footage - Ensure every clip is well-framed, stable, and focused. Use slow motion sparingly to emphasize critical moments, like a game-winning catch.
3. Add Visual and Audio Enhancements
Graphics - Use on-screen labels to identify players, positions, or stats for context.
Music - Choose high-energy or dramatic music to complement the footage. Avoid overwhelming the action with overly loud tracks.
Transitions - Smooth transitions between clips maintain flow without distracting from the plays.
4. End with Impact
Conclude with a memorable moment, like a game-winning play or a montage of the best highlights. Add a call to action when the reel is for recruitment purposes.

Videography Tips for Football
Use a High Vantage Point - Filming from the press box or a high platform provides a clear view of the entire field, making it easier to follow plays.
Follow the Ball - While this seems obvious, it’s important to anticipate where the ball is going, especially during passing plays or trick plays.
Capture Wide and Tight Shots - Wide shots provide context for the play, while tight shots highlight individual performances.
Be Ready for Key Moments - Study team tendencies to anticipate big plays and position yourself accordingly.
Football Videography Pro Tips
In this article, you discovered crucial information about football positions, key plays, and pro videography tips, enabling you to anticipate where and what to capture for expertly shot video footage.
Your ability to follow pivotal plays in a football game will help you piece together crucial moments, player excellence, and crowd reactions to produce incredible and exciting highlight reels.
Not knowing where to capture game action will result in boring, uninteresting footage that poorly represents your videography talent and skill.

Off the Bench
by Tiffany Noelle Chacon
(Sports in the Sunshine State RomComs, #2)
Publication date: November 19th 2024
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Synopsis:
Austin Taylor, once an undrafted free agent and a third-string quarterback, was never supposed to be the starting QB for the Tampa Bay Bucs.
Except now, he is.
Dani Marshall, the Bucs’ data analyst whiz, is all in—betting her career, and even her car, on Austin’s success. The real challenge? Keeping her heart out of the game.
Austin
When the achingly gorgeous Dani Marshall shows up in my tiny Ohio town to sign me to the Bucs, I can’t say no. I expect to ride the bench in obscurity for my entire NFL career. What I don’t expect is to become the starting QB in my first month—or to end up as a viral GIF, tripping over my cleats.
Dani’s betting on me, but I’m starting to think her faith might be misplaced. The closer we get, the more her walls stay mile-high—even as I’m being pulled to her as surely as the moon pulls the tides.
Dani
Research shows that spending time together and sharing personal goals increases the likelihood of developing romantic feelings by 30%. (I will not be part of this statistic. I will not be part of this statistic. I will NOT be part… oh crap.)
After I sign Austin Taylor to the Bucs, I make it my mission to stay away from him—he’s too attractive for me, and, as an absolute rule, I don’t date athletes. Not after what happened last time.
But when I make a bet with my work nemesis over Austin Taylor’s performance, my car is on the line. Now I have to get involved.
The problem? The more I work with Austin Taylor, the more afraid I am that he’s going to steal my heart.
This is the first novel in the Sports in the Sunshine State RomCom series: a collection of interconnected, clean sports romances, each featuring its own unique love story. While all books are linked, they can be enjoyed as standalones. You’ll enjoy high-action sports sequences, sizzling chemistry, with no cursing or smut.

Kareem Between - US
Tumblr media
This heartfelt coming-of-age novel in verse tells the powerful story of a seventh grade Syrian-American boy and his struggles, big and small, as he navigates middle school.
Seventh grade begins and Kareem’s fall should be off to a great start. But he’s already fumbled it. His best friend moved away, he bungled his tryout for the football team, and because of his heritage, he was voluntold to show the new kid – a Syrian refugee with a thick and embarrassing accent – around school. Just when Kareem thinks his middle school life has imploded, the hot-shot QB promises to get Kareem another tryout for the squad. There’s a to secure that chance, Kareem must do something he knows is wrong. Then like a surprise blitz, Kareem’s mom returns to Syria to bring her aging parents out of a war zone and to the United States. But a new executive order prevents her from coming home. If Kareem could throw a penalty flag on the fouls of his school and home life, it would be for Unnecessary Roughness. Kareem is stuck between. Between countries. Between friends, between football, between parents—and between right and wrong. It’s up to him to step up, find his confidence, and navigate the beauty and hope found somewhere in the middle.

I watch football by repeating the plays until I understand them. Usually takes 3 iterations. The game is likely over but I’m a long way behind.
Example: Lions big gain turned out to be a crossing pattern when the defense was short a CB because they blitzed the one on that side. As I remember, the Lions put a TE over there, so the defense would think they could cover with an LB or S. Not sure why they brought the safety up or why they telegraphed the blitz (because I think those are best as surprises because otherwise you’re betting on the play call).
BTW, the Lions play calls deteriorate under pressure. Their 3rd down sweep was a terrible call. I don’t know why they ran it. Does Goff change plays? He at this point is 15 for 15, so why not throw? Or at least play action? Gino Smith runs the plays. They executed very well on offense. But then the Lions defensive tendencies seem pretty clear. They know when to expect over-aggression with cutbacks.
Both offenses are executing very well. Taking full advantage of playing first. Execution is controlling the defensive reactions.
Anyway. Wait, how did he get so open in the end zone when Goff is looking at him the whole time? Oh, the CB took the first receiver through the area, and the deep back was both out of position, covering the back line, which they saw on film, and they ran it to get between him and the actual receiver.
That’s what I don’t understand about the Patriots. The defense is decent, so shouldn’t the offense be able to play at least to that level? I think maybe it’s lack of practice in pads. They just showed a sack that was obviously a failure to get open or the timing not working downfield, but they didn’t show the pattern at all. I enjoy how in replay a play which seemed chaotic was actually called and executed except the QB had to move a bit.
It’s 30 Sept 2024. I have been starting to relax in this place. Getting deeper into positions. I actually have a bit of space, and a sense of privacy. Wow, 2 bad play calls in a row by the Seahawks. Compressing the field to one side and throwing back works, but they’ll cover your main guy. You use a secondary receiver who leaks out. The 4th down call was dumb: take em by surprise. And if they aren’t? Nice rush call by Seattle: moved the tackle out by faking an outside rush to let the tackle go around the guard. Almost a safety. TV missed it: focused on the offensive play call, which would have worked but not for the stunt.
That INT was a nice play, but Gino twice has not seen underneath coverage in the end zone. Target fixation?
I’m working on something. Not sure what.

New Post has been published on https://www.packernet.com/blog/2024/09/30/doubt-tinged-hope/
Doubt tinged hope
So, the Packers’ place-kicking problem is real. Similarly concerning, are big name, well paid, pass rushers were invisible Sunday.
Beating a good team on a roll with so many drops on offense and defense combined with penalties and rusty-sloppy QB play, were too much to overcome against Minnesota. Still, there are reasons for hope.
Jayden Reed looks like a star. In spite of being down 28, the defense woke up managed to play well enough to make a comeback possible. It also looks like Green Bay has a legit weapon in punter Daniel Whelan. But the biggest hope is that Jordan Love made some serious throws as the game wore on, giving reason to think his performance will continue to sharpen.
Pass rush challenge
Through 4-games, big name talents Rashan Gary, Kenny Clark and Preston Smith have been mostly below average, and at times, invisible. Lukas Van Ness and Kingsley Enagbbare flash hustle, growth and but not enough results. Devonte Wyatt is the biggest impact player from the d-line early this season, but he was injured late. He was on crutches and in a walking boot post-game with an MRI scheduled. Hopefully his recovery isn’t a long one.
Sometimes you can scheme a pressure, or a sack. Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley did just that with Keisean Nixon’s strip sack. But Green Bay must get more from their front-4 to contend, because blitzes and scheme only gets you so far.
Kicking riddle wrapped in a conundrum
While kickers across the league are blasting 50 and 60 yard kicks, Brayden Narveson has missed in every game (once saved by penalty).
The two misses yesterday, from 37 and 49 yards, were devastating. Playing from behind all day is hard enough. It gets much harder when leaving easy points on the field. Coach Matt LaFleur expressed confidence in his kicker. Narveson should thank his coach for the white lie–because there’s no way he’s confident.
The young kicker may another week because there aren’t any great kickers just waiting to get signed. It’s safe to assume Narveson won’t sleep well for quite some time.
The talent and coaching to fuel an exciting, competitive, team is still evident, even in a tough home loss. Solving the pass rush and kicking problems won’t be easy fixes.
