"Jaune Gets An Upgrade AU" Day One - (Entrenching Tool)

Ren was still brooding over his newly acquired ability to become a waifu... and was seriously annoyed at Jaune's complete acceptance of that strange fact. While in the back of his mind the true fear about what Nora would do if she ever found out.

Jaune: SO...

Ren: No.

Jaune: But...

Ren: I said no. You are not going back for that dagger thing...

Jaune: I guess. Well we do have these new bracelets, and I think...

Ren: Don't say it. Don't even think of it.

Jaune: Come on Ren. It's a cool ability, that NO one else has!

Ren: It's a inane ability that makes no logical sense!

Jaune: Gee, for a guy who keeps spouting things about being open minded, you sure have a closed view on the whole gender-swap thing.

Ren: ...

Jaune: I wonder how the girls are making out in the firearms section?

Ren: Probably better than we are... and seeing as I haven't heard and screams of terror or explosions...

Jaune: Then Nora and Pyrrha are keeping team RWBY under control.

Ren: Is it weird that it's team RWBY and not Nora we're concerned about causing destruction?

Jaune: Ah, I mean they did blow up the docks and cause millions of lien in damage fighting a mech.

Ren: It was a stolen Atlas Paladin.

Jaune: Right. A mech.

Ren: ...

A pair of figures in the distance causes Jaune to stop in mid stride. Ren notices this and also stops.

Ren: Jaune?

Jaune: I think... is it?

Ren: Is what? Do you see someone you know?

Jaune: It couldn't be... but it has to be.

Ren: Ah... Jaune?

Jaune: It IS!!! Aunt Sally 674735-Arc and Uncle Sam 668843-Arc! Over here!

Ren's brain paused, and then crashed as a pair of very similar looking figures turned to face them. To him, they booth looked exactly the same...

Aunt Sally: Jaune!

Uncle Sam: Nephew!

Jaune jogged up to the pair of figures a huge smile on his face, leaving a still bewildered Ren flat footed and behind.

Jaune: Why are you guys here? Last I heard you were deployed to the out reaches to breach a Heretic base?

Aunt Sally: Vacation Days, so we thought we'd come visit some family.

Uncle Sam: We're due back in about a week.

Jaune: Well Mom is going to be thrilled that you're here! Does she know?

Uncle Sam: No. We haven't told her yet. We want it to be a surprise.

Jaune: I won't tell a soul.

Aunt Sallyy: So why are you here, Jaune?

Jaune: I'm here to find an alternate weapon to Crocea Mors.

Uncle Sam: Why?

Jaune: Well.. um...

Aunt Sally: Does your mom know you are in Vale?

Jaune: Well...

Uncle Sam: Jaune?

Jaune: I sort of ran from home to attend Beacon, and borrowed Crocea Mors... WHICH I want to send back, so I need to find something else to serve as my main weapon.

Jaune fidgeted, and by the time Ren finally reset his thoughts and joined him, Jaune looked like he was about to burst into tears, under the stern gaze of the pair of gasmask wearing individuals. At least Ren thought it was a stern gaze. To be honest he really couldn't tell.

Aunt Sally: You're mom has to be worried sick. I suggest you CALL her very soon...

Uncle Sam: Preferably before we visit her and tell her were we saw you. Understand?

Jaune: Yes, and I promise to call her as soon as I finish here.

Uncle Sam: Good boy, now as for a replacement for Crocea Mors... not that much could ever replace such a honorable and venerable blade...

Aunt Sally: How about this?

Ren: That's a... shovel?

Aunt Sally / Uncle Sam / Jaune: HERESY!!!

Ren: huh?

Jaune: That's not a SHOVEL!

Number 7 for the RWBY ask game!

Yang's "I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!! CAN EVERYONE JUST CALM DOWN FOR LIKE FIVE MINUTES BEFORE SOMETHING CRAZY HAPPENS AGAIN!" from V1

No super deep reason why I like this one tbh. Often I just find myself repeating this line either in my head or out loud when I feel overwhelmed and stressed out. Idk I just find it cathartic and it's just a good line of expressing anger and frustration in a humorous way when too much is happening all at once.

"Do you believe in destiny?"

The last words said before her death, carrying Pyrrha's legacy. The way it encapsulates Pyrrha's arc and her struggle with agency and existentialism. The way it continues to haunt the narrative, especially for Cinder and Jaune's characters, makes it one of the most iconic lines of the show.

"This must be really hard on her too"

I have literally written an entire meta on why I love this line.

"Some things are more important, I think. Keeping our humanity."

I absolutely adore the humble and honest defiance Oscar's line has in the face of Ironwood's "we have to do whatever it takes to stop Salem, nothing matters more". It's also really when you see Oscar coming into his own and finding himself, starting to find and assert his own beliefs (...though you can clearly see Ruby's inspiration and influence shining through *gestures to her "so all those times you talked about having faith in humanity... That was just for everyone else?"). Because Oscar is trying to believe in Ironwood's humanity. And in his own, in the face of the merge. He pays for it dearly and yet that belief of his doesn't falter, and we see it again with how he believes in Oz, Hazel and Emerald. And what he says here really is at the heart of what will lead to them saving the day I think, in the same vein as Ruby and Maria's conversation about the Silver Eyes not being about destroying monsters, but preserving humanity and life.

"She's not protecting me. And I'm not protecting her. We're protecting each other"

If Blake and Yang facing against Adam again and holding hands wasn't enough to drive me wild and giddy, this line does. So much growth in Blake and Yang's relationship culminating in their confrontation with Adam, especially with this line. Letting go of matyr complexes, and instead coming together as equals to mutually uplift and support each other, so neither has to suffer alone or feel infantalised or overshadowed as the protector or protected, instead growing beyond that into something stronger and more beautiful, the moment their love truly began to blossom.

"You atlas elites are all the same! you think hoarding power means you'll have it forever, but it just makes the rest of us hungrier. And I refuse to starve."

I love this line for the feral energy it has, the raw drive and ambition Cinder has that it bleeds far past desire and into a need, a desperation. It carries so much weight with it, the foreshadowing for Cinder's backstory as a slave girl trampled and abused by atlas elites, literally starved for food, affection and agency. I really love the way the hunger motif in general is used. On top of that it makes the foiling between Winter and Cinder very apparent

"Without you I am nothing, but because of you I am everything"

Honestly up there as another one of the most iconic lines of the show. It's said in a a moment of rebellion and triumph by Cinder over her abuser, but simultaneously is tragic in how Cinder is essentially defining herself by the abuse and pain she endured. Fully expecting this line to resurface in a moment with Salem, but with the original meaning turned on its head.

"Maybe there was something you just weren't seeing" I also wrote another whole ass meta about why I love this line

also shoutout to Ilia's "Quit taking pot shots and FIGHT ME LIKE YOU MEAN IT!" and "I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO! I don't know what else to do..." purely for Cherami Leigh's brilliant performance in delivering such raw and emotional lines.

Ozpin's fear speech is pretty great too.

There's another line from V9 that's one of my favorites too, but I know you haven't watched V9 yet so I'll tell you that one later :)

Villain Deku x Quirkless Fem reader hcs! So, this is more towards the LOV’s opinion on S/O. They obviously know how hardworking, kind, and modest she can be, especially when trying to change the world’s opinion of the Quirkless by being the first ever Quirkless hero despite all the horrific treatment that they wish they could solve her problems by killing such horrible people. And yet, they also know how crazy strong she is. Somehow, despite having Quirks, a lot of heroes have trouble taking down Nomus, and yet S/O, with her skills being like Pyrrha Nikos or Raven Branwen (both from RWBY), she’s able to take out Nomus without a quirk, relying only on her skills, experience, instincts, etc. And Deku didn’t even command any Nomus to hold back against her or anything! That just goes to show how strong S/O is, and how the villakns know that she will be tough to take down especially in a 1v1.

To a certain extent, the league has always respected you. I mean like, you represent the oppressed and mistreated and the wronged. Youre the perfect example of whats wrong with hero spciety. You're just on a different side. The league might say the wrong side.

Shigaraki has been trying to figure out for so long why Izuku hasn't been able to convince you to switch sides.

A video circulates of a couple of heroes taking on a Nomu. They fail, horribly fail.

And then you come in, dropping in and joining the fight seamlessly.

It's almost mesmerizing to watch you fight. How fast your reflexes are, how you know exactly when to attack and when to defend.

Izuku swears he falls in love all over again whenever he sees you fight. Hell, there are times when he has to fight you, and you make it so difficult to hold back when you're kicking his ass.

Nonetheless, he wears the bruises and scratches like a badge of honor. He doesn't listen when you apologize later on. In fact, he praises you.

And it's not an easy feat, you manage to take down the Nomu.

Still, one of the fallen heroes get up and seeing how you've already done most of the work, they deliver a blow that really isn't necessary. It's just showing off, honestly.

But the media eats it up and you're thanked for your "assistance" in aiding that particularly hero.

Izuku is deciding on whether to kill the journalist who wrote the first article or to show mercy and burn their home down.

Thats when Shiagaraki approaches him on behalf of the rest of the league.

Twice and Compress are extremely impressed by you.

Himiko thinks you're ICONIC for a hero at least

She loves sparring with you, though she can get a bit too excited sometimes.

Spinner tries to play it off, but he's also pretty impressed.

Both Kurogiri and Shigaraki do NOT want you as an enemy.

Izuku tried to convince you to become if hero that night, and when words don't work, he tries to convince you in other ways ;)

I am entertained but also feel sad for Pyrrha in the "Terra Cotta Warrior AU"; does she at least become Cool Aunt Pyrrha to Adrian, or is there a competition between RWBY/(J)NP(R) to see who can win that title for the little boy?

"Pyrrha, can you look after Adrian today?"

"W-What?!" Pyrrha asked, flustered by the sudden request.

"Terra and I need to take care of something in town, and we need someone to babysit." Jaune hurriedly explained. "I'm sorry to drop this on you, but we really need it."

"Oh, uh, w-well, if there's no other option." Pyrrha replied.

He let out a huge sigh of relief. "Oh, thank you so much!"

Pyrrha was powerless as Jaune hugged her. His warm body, toned perfectly by herself, enveloped hers and reignited the embers of her crush a hundred fold. She wanted to return the hug, but was too hesitant and when she finally mustered her courage, he pulled away. Leaving her arms empty.

"Terra should be up soon with him." He swung a backpack around. " His toys and books and other things should all be in here."

"Oh, um, okay?" Pyrrha silently cursed her kindness and inability to turn Jaune down. With his cute smile and gorgeous eyes, she just couldn't bring herself to deny him. "Anything special he needs?"

"Not really." Jaune smiled. "If he needs something, he'll let you know. Like, if he taps his lips, he needs something to drink. If he pats his belly, he wants food. And if he pats his butt, well..."

"I understand." Pyrrha dreaded the potential task of changing his diaper with no one to assist. Why did Ren and Nora have to leave for a 'Not Date' today of all days?

"If you have any trouble, please let us know." Pyrrha looked out of the doorway to see Terra panting, holding the wee baby Adrian in her arms. "Again, we're really sorry to drop this on you, but Jaune and I really have to speak with the headmaster about something really important."

"Oh, uh, I understand." As Adrian was passed into the Champion's arms, he began to fuss.

"It's okay, Adrian," Jaune cooed, "Mommy and Daddy just have to go talk to Mr. Ozpin. Okay?" He pecked his son's forehead. "I love you."

"I love you, Adrian." Terra said, blowing a kiss to her son.

The boy reached for his mother, but the door shut. Once it did, Pyrrha was all alone, and Adrian offered no mercy as he wailed. She held out the baby, panicking.

"Uh, there, there!" She called out over the screaming. She set him down and he began smacking and slapping the door. "Mommy and Daddy will be back soon, I promise!" The child continued it's sobbing, red-faced with tears flowing.

Pyrrha looked into the backpack and began pulling toys and books and whatever else Jaune prepared for her untimely playdate with his son. Unfortunately, blankets and bottles did nothing to sate his desires.

"What do I do?! What do I do?!" Pyrrha asked as she pulled out a stuffed rabbit. "Wait, isn't this...?"

It was a long shot, but Pyrrha didn't have any other choice.

"Hey, Adrian~!"

He turned around and immediately stopped crying. In front of the stranger with red hair hopped a little, brown bunny with an iconic smile on his chubby face. Pumpkin Pete was here to play.

She wasn't much of an actress, but she spent enough time in the studio to get a basic feel for his voice. Chipper, rural, and just a hint of maturity behind his voice gave Pyrrha an idea of where to start.

"Wanna play~?"

"Ugh, that took forever." Terra groaned. "Not even coding school was that dry."

"I know, honey, but this is important." Jaune said. "I want you and Adrian to have a good life when I graduate, and having a place out here should help that."

"When?" Terra giggled. "Looks like you're starting to become an optimist."

"Yeah, I did." Jaune chuckled. "A lot's happened since I came to Beacon."

"I'll bet." Terra said. "And does a certain Argus resident have anything to do with that?"

"You know she did." Jaune held Terra close. "I don't think I could have made it this far without you."

"Mm, I think you could have, even without my help." Terra leaned on him.

"That's sweet," Jaune opened the door, "but I don't-"

Jaune shut his mouth. Asleep on his bed was his son, while Pyrrha organized his things. She looked up and waved. He waved back as he entered. He stepped closer and hugged her again.

This time, she didn't hesitate. The hug lingered before parting, and Jaune began packing Adrian's things. Terra waved Pyrrha over and the door shut behind them in the hall.

"Thank you so, so, so, so, so much, Pyrrha." Terra said as she took her hands.

"It's no problem." Pyrrha smiled. "I mean, I wasn't sure what to do when he started crying, but lucky for me, he loves Pumpkin Pete."

"He does, doesn't he?" Terra giggled. "Listen, if there's anything I can do to help you out, I'll be more than happy to."

"Oh, no, you don't have to-"

"Up-bup-bup, I won't take no for an answer." Terra held up her finger. "Besides, us girls from Argus have to help each other out, right?"

I was considering the theory that Vacuo or someone else has a statue of Ruby but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea that she (and probably the rest of the team +Jaune+Penny) has a couple of improvised shrines instead.

Vacuo probably doesn't have the time or resources to do a formal memorial, and they probably wouldn't do it anyway out of respect for RWBY's still living relatives who are dealing with her absence. But with all the upset in the world already, there needs to be something to rally behind, and Ruby is a perfect point. She was the young girl on the airwaves, the one who led the Atlesians to safety, who sacrificed her life for them. Saints have been made from less.

So I don't think there's gonna be a statue like there was with Pyrrha, some simple, universal symbol of communal mourning. More likely there's symbols etched into buildings, graffiti murals, piles of rags or stones or whatever votives can be spared around small icons of people lost. The sort of scattershot grief where everything is happening and you can't hold a funeral but you have to do something. A Kingdom fell. There has to be something.

I don't think it's gonna be a single big moment like it was with the Pyrrha statue. I think we're just gonna walk into town and see all the little bits in the background slowly building up until one or more of them sees their emblems and they realize what they've been looking at the whole time.

Favorite female character? Ilia Penny Pyrrha Ruby Nora(!!!!) Emerald Weiss and most of all… maria😔she’s so fucking funny i loved her energy v6. Further explanations, Ilia has an adorable design, great voice actor and decent enough representation. Nora’s timeskip design was unmatched and she’s very quotable, plus her personality reminds me of one of my close friends irl. Ruby’s struggles in V9 (until they fucked that up) really hit with me as I’d gone through something very similar, and Penny… Penny just makes me happy. What they did with her makes me angry, but Penny makes me smile. :D

Favorite male character? I got a couple but at the moment it’s tied by Sun and Roman. Sun has fun energy and Roman is himself and iconic. Others are: James is hot and so is the bad bird BF he got by being autistic. Mercury is cool for the 5 seconds of screentime he gets every volume now. Tyrian and Watts got impeccable swag and the 5 hour long make out scene between the two of them was very interesting. Adam is cathartic and fun as hell to write my little meow meow. Jaune is best when he’s just a little loser dork, and Ren is very pretty.

Favorite Volume? Surprise surprise, Volume 3. I fucking love tournament arcs. I. Love. Tournament. Arcs.

Favorite Episode? That whole Apathy Arc in V6!!! Great horror in my opinion. I wish they’d show off more creative Grimm like that again. And as a side note, V6 is just… the best looking volume.

Favorite cast member? If they count, Jeff and Casey!! SUCH good music.

Favorite ship? *cracks knuckles* Freezerburn, Catmeleon, Monochrome, Schne//ekos, Pussy Magnet Purrah, Greek fire, nuts and dolts, Bees Schnees, Khali, Spicecream, Seamonkeys, Emercury, If there’s one between Ilia and Ruby put it here, Ginger Snaps, Arctic Winter, Silver Lotus, *looks at writings on my palm* Snow pines, Ironqrow, James x Oz, Crimsun, Strawbana, Nuts and Volts, and Rosebird. To name a few. Some might not be my favorites, these are just ones I like/like in concept. :) Character I’d die defending? Sienna fucking Khan. The whole White Fang, honestly. I do think protesting through violence against your oppressors is very swag and real actually. Plus she’s hot.

A character I can’t sympathize with? Uhhhhhh…… SALEM!!!!!!!!!! Cinder too ish but Salem mostly. Like, I feel a TINY bit bad, only because the gods are undeniably awful garbage horrible terrible. She still sucks though.

A character I grew to love? …Adam. I did not give a single shit about his decently attractive redhead ass until that reveal and his death in V6. He has become my blorbo; my skrunkly. My cringefail loser, my girly pop. Engrained within my brain like a silly silly worm. He’s fun to draw. Fun to write. REALLY fun to write. I can put him in so many situations. So many bittersweet, melancholic situations. And in so many outfits.

My Anti-otp? Ive got a couple.

Bumbl//Bee. Not my thing. Could have been, had they not continually tried making “Only disabled main character losing her arm” something “romantic” as well as paralleling said character to her partner’s… um… ex abuser? Hello?

Frostbite. This one is actually one of my least favorite ships, as it is essentially a pairing between the ex-racist ex-heiress of a huge company to the in universe minority said company enslaved and branded while he was a child. Plus, again. Fuck. Abusive. Ships.
