Determinism in TLT
The three people who actively follow my blog will know it, but for the others I'll say it: I don't judge TLT characters personally. (Except if I want to make a point or if I want to provoke a little.) That's not because I think their actions are not bad (they often are). But thing is, I think the characters are hardly made to be judged.
We can, for example, take Ianthe, my blorbo, my wife and my love. It was, all jokes aside, surely a horrible crime to kill her cav. Besides of that, it would maybe really have been better, if she hadn't saved Jod. (I mean, we didn't know it back then, but it seems obvious regarding NtN, even if it's understandable that she doesn't wanted her loved ones to die.) She has a lot of complicated character traits as well.
But if we look at where she is from, it's obvious that she had to be like that to survive. She is manipulative? So is her sister and probably her whole House. She is unnecessary eager to reach her goals (on cost of others)? Surprise, that's what her sister is like and her whole House too!
It's extremly obvious, that all characters are basically caricatures of how their Houses are. Palamedes, the scholar, the Warden... Dulcie, the beauty that blossoms and dies... Oh, even Silas. You would think it was extremly stupid of him to fight Ianthe, but actually, based of all what we know about him, I really think he had no other choice (technically, but not practically) as fighting her for his beliefs. It's so obvious, that even the characters themselves talk about it at a point:
That means: Ianthe is maybe a questionable person, but she wouldn't have been, if she had grown up on the Sixth. Palamedes is a (comperatively) sweet person, but he isn't like that because he naturally is like that, but because he's grown up on the Sixth.
[Let's make a sad little literary class trip:
Palamedes even says himself in TUG, that from (House specific) point of view, Ianthe is not wrong. It's a very interesting moment, because a character of the series admits, that (in TLT) moral is not static, but a question of the point of view. (What's made by the circumstances (in TLT).)
]
And that's what Determinism means. It's the idea, that people don't (only) do things, because of decisions, but because of their circumstances. The idea of Determinism is really important for leftist ideas because it enables ideas like: if you put a bunch of people with no money and boredom in a quarter, crimes will happen. (The idea shifts the attention from decisions to the circumstances.)
Even if the characters of the TLT universe are able to make decisions (maybe), I think it's pretty obvious how much the books are influenced by the idea of Determinism. And therefore, even if some of the characters awake the wish in me to... Oh! What did I want to say? Anyway, I think it's important to regard the context of the characters. It's possible to judge them, but it's also interesting to do it not and look at their reasons. (What doesn't apologize them, but makes them understandable)
This post is involuntary sponsored by this horrorshow interesting post of @swordrogue. I just couldn't get it out of my mind. Please go read it, it's very interesting
#tlt meta#tlt spoilers#palamedes sextus#ianthe tridentarius#harrow nonagesimus#god! I had almost forgotten how interesting TUG is#also it reads almost like a manifest for “recognize the Determinism of that series”#just read it again - half for this post. half because it was fun - and my friendos. I have to go offline for a few days because of Reallife#but I'll become insufferable about it when I come back. believe me

Anon with the friend who's reading tlt on the reverse order: Yes, he knows he's being a lab rat, he doesn't keep motes on the books because he's very much a casual reader (and thus perfect for the experiment) and so far we have only done Nona The Ninth and The Unwanted Guest, plus some chapters of HTN & Doctor Sex. There's the slight chance of osmosis corruption because I occasionally reblog modern au memes on my main blog, which I think is how he got Palamedes' whole deal.
There's not much he guessed, and even less he guessed correctly. He did call the fact Crown and Ianthe are related a pleasant plot twist, and he initially thought John was Varun.
The most interesting guess he had, which he arrived through flawed means, was Paul's existence, and the fact Pyrrha had some sort of connection to Gideon The Ninth — mostly because he guessed the average Lyctorhood to be Camilla and Palamedes', and with the reference of Gideon and G1deon as 1) permanently dead, in a setting where he's aware necromancy exists and he thought zombies to be actual resurrected people 2) connected to Pyrrha, and 3) the fact Pyrrha had "some weird vibes" (he refused to elaborate) led him to thinking Pyrrha was half Gideon, half someone else, and the reason Kiriona was vaguely off-putting to people was because she didn't have a full soul. Anyways he did think the same would happen to Palamedes and Camilla, which it did, and that Kiriona was pissed at Pyrrha because of an ambiguous degree of relationship
We have paused rn, as the labrat experiment is in return for me reading a webcomic per book
Oh yeah also im doing this because i either dreamt a post proposing it up or actually saw it, and honestly i wanted to see how much biases and previous narrative impacted the relationship of the reader with tlt characters, their relationships, and worldbuilding, as i absorbed tlt by osmosis as an agender aroace. so yeah giving a gay guy tlt without previous context in the reverse order to complete the trifecta (lesbian woman reading it in the correct order, aroace agender getting to know it by osmosis and figuring out the plot best I could before reading it, gay guy reading it in reverse)
ANON THANK YOU FOR COMING BACK! @mayasaura and everyone who wanted a follow-up to the first part.
"Thought John was Varun at first" is soooo big brained actually! I'm always thinking about John's more RB-like traits. I'm also very amused that he cast Pyrrha as the zombie puppeteer, I bet he's going to love tiny Harrow walking around her dead parent's bodies for a decade.
I also feel like the worldbuilding in NtN is veeery different from the general #vibe of the first two books — it feels like an "anime filler arc" kind of sidequest plot — and I'm very curious if going from NtN to HtN is going to make the settings vibe changes feel stronger or weaker than reading it normally would.
Anyway, I love that you decided to do this, and please let us know what he thinks about HtN! I hope you enjoy the webcomic :D

I'm not able to fully articulate this to my personal satisfaction yet but there's something so staggering about calling Mercymorn 'a bitch and a nag' in a defense of John's treatment of her as if those aren't misogynistically charged terms and as if they refer to behaviour patterns that we should simply assume emerged naturally, for No Reason. Mercymorn ended up being pigeonholed as the hysterical shrew (< I'm saying this in a hashtag girlboss way so it's not misogynistic) instead of any of the male Lyctors by complete coincidence and it means nothing. In fact nothing in these books means anything. It's all just events occurring for no particular narrative purpose, I guess.
exactly this. genuinely i'm still not over that comment because it is so mind-blowing to me that someone can say that and multiple major tlt blogs could essentially co-sign the comment without being aware of their own misogyny. she's literally been shoved into the "nagging wife" trope, the entire conception of which is intrinsically misogynistic. women aren't inherently predisposed to acting like nagging wives! it's just so frustrating that they can somehow completely evade recognizing john's responsibility for putting her in that role by making himself her god and then undermining her and ignoring her in a way he never acts toward augustine. idk i don't even really have anything to add to this ask just that the way the fandom treats mercymorn and all of the "less likable" female characters makes me really sad honestly.

Adventures in reading too much fanfiction and having a stupid gay crisis
In my defense I’ve known girls were on the table for me for like ten years but I am also truly atrocious at knowing what I want out of dating or sex and I’m having a year about it.
This has coincided with me reading tlt and then a ton of fanfiction and has resulted in way more self reflection than I signed up for. I’ve been drawing comics about these experiences because I don’t have anyone to talk to about them, this is hugely embarrassing on all fronts, but also… so funny
Here’s one I drew about reading a very bad, highly pornographic fanfic:
Here’s one about a fanfiction that tackles coming out/homophobia, which is a genre don’t enjoy because I’m jealous people somehow KNOW when they’re gay:
Here’s my personal favorite, the funniest AND most embarrassing one:
More in that same vein
Bonus:
I don’t know who will even see this post, I’m too chickenshit to put it anywhere visible or even tag it.
but here we are. Because I’m committed to being cringe on this blog for reasons of ‘fun’ and ‘being myself’ :) :) :)
#my art#I’ll tag it that#if anyone comes to this blog and finds me they can see my embarrassing comics#I’ve done some actual tlt art but nothing I like#altho I want to do cover art for the playlists I’m making bc I’m so invested in them#maybe I’ll do that and then have real art on this blog#anyways

For the Send Me a Character meme, Coriolanus Snow please.
Ask Game Thanks, anon! I'm keeping this mostly to Snow in tbosas, because I really need to re-read the OG trilogy. (also I fell asleep writing this last night for me, and my laptop died and I had to start over, so that's why I had to take a break for a bit from answering these)
My first impression
He is the villain. (no judgment) Read this as "he's just a guy filling his role in the narrative" type comment. I was like nine when I first read THG… I wasn't having the deepest thoughts. I did like him as a character though! But there were no deeper thoughts than "he's a good villain!"
My impression now
He's so interesting! Like I don't talk about him that much but I feel like there's so much to talk about! I really love hearing my mutuals talk about him! There's so much there!
Favorite thing about that character
The way that he is shown to be capable of empathy and has every reason to not accept/support the Capitol, but he does! He does! What a tragedy! You could have put the pieces together and realized that this system is broken and will only ever harm you, and he decides to try and control it instead.
Least favorite thing
I think some people on Discord brought it up recently (el, was it el?), but his plastic surgery being kind of used to accentuate his villainy felt like a bad stereotype.
Favorite line/scene
How awful, Coriolanus thought. To have you be the first person in the world a baby sees. (Ch. 16)
Genuinely, so funny, and the rest of that scene… well, it's my favorite interaction.
Favorite interaction that character has with another
Continuing on from the scene above! Just Volumnia sharing her worldview with him! While she's stitching him up! (He's her creature :) ) She also is sharing this "we are all inherently violent" worldview with him right after he killed Bobbin… she's like offering him an emotional out. An kind of escape from guilt (whether she know it or not). Absolution. It's okay/normal you killed someone, Coriolanus! It's human nature <- according to Volumnia's worldview.
A character that I wish that character would interact with more
Making eye contact with my url and pfp… Felix… Please, Coriolanus. For me. Prove me right. Prove my weird "I'm who you should be" jealousy (on both sides) correct.
Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character
John Gaius from The Locked Tomb! I've made the comparison before, and I won't get too into it lest I insert more TLT spoilers onto my blog.
A headcanon about that character
He does have a soft spot for the people he grew up with! Especially Clemensia and Festus! I also, however, don't think that it would save them if they become too much of a threat in his eyes, but he'd be more willing to ignore the possibility of them becoming a threat for longer than others.
(i also think that he probably kills a good chunk of his classmates, but not all of them. I think some people died more normal death, maybe a rebel attempt at an attack, maybe other Capitolite's climbing the ladder. I think he kills enough of them that some of the others suspect, and the growing horror of that person who was some sort of friend to you in the past. mwah! that's enough for me!)
A song that reminds of that character
A Mark On You by the Mountain Goats. Guys, you reached the depths of my ability to think up songs. idk if I can articulate why with this one. It's not the style for sure. But the lyrics. There's something there for me.
An unpopular opinion about that character
This isn't really an unpopular opinion, but every time I see one of those posts going around about how you shouldn't thirst over young Snow, I always think "honestly, I'm really shocked that there wasn't this level of thirst for older Snow." But also I like hanging out at the geriatric ward of Panem so maybe I'm biased.
Also again, not really an unpopular opinion where I hang out but maybe out in the world, it is idk. I don't think he's a lady's man or anything like that. I don't think he's like sleeping around even when he gains confidence after becoming financially secure. (but I respect everyone's different interpretations!)
Favorite picture
I mean... of course, it's from one of my favorite scenes!
But also I love Snow laughing at his execution <3
#i should gif snow laughing... i thought i had but apparently not#abyssal stuff#the ballad of songbirds and snakes#coriolanus snow#ask game#anon ask#tbosas#ask response

went on a tlt queue spree (sorry to the blog that I raided ahhhh) and got really, uh. really in my feelings about it.
the biggest source of shame and irritation in my life is that I can't accurately put into words all of the reasons why this series means so much to me when I'm talking to people who aren't already familiar with it. like yes, I love to talk about the goofs and the things that are obviously pulled from online culture and the Yearning of it all, but like. that's not the CORE of it. There's something reflective and razor-sharp about it that gives me physical PANGS when I see certain lines or certain depictions of the scenes from the books. The earnestness and sorrow in this series is like something I feel like I've known my whole life. It's like being cut with mirror glass.
anyway, read TLT if you want to know me down to the bones I guess, lol.
#hush frenchy#read the 'gideon-and-harrowhark harrowhark-and-gideon at last' line and thought about the 6th house and it fucked up my whole day (positive)

hello hello !! this is me inviting you talk about your titan army ocs (if you want to ofc) !!!!
i always want to talk abouy my titan army ocs. i love them so much i plucked them out of pjo and now i'm writing an entire original work with them as the main characters. but that's a conversation for my main blog @encrucijada
the ocs are part of an ongoing au/rp between me, @on-the-river-lethe and a friend of ours who's not on tumblr. we each created an oc to play as and things unravelled from there. this is going under a read more because boy there's a lot
piedad narváez (my oc). daughter of urania, muse of astronomy. they/she. claimed soon after arriving to camp, has an okay relationship with her mum but only because she's an only daughter lol powers are orpheus-like in that whenever she plays music they can entrance people, can also navigate using the stars. then while doing research i realised urania had a prophetic aspect and now piedad sometimes receives premonitions when looking at the stars. weapon of choice are knives and has a violin as a support item for the music stuff, the bow of which turns into a stiletto knife.
hudson moretti (fluffy's oc). son of hypnos, god of sleep. he/him. big guy but a huge softy, a sleepy jock if that's a thing. less than having a bad relationship with hypnos he just doesn't have a relationship with him at all lmao because hypnos is bad at checking in on his kids. has the standard kid of hypnos powers like inducing sleep and also dreamwalking and dream discarding. uses a sword as weapon. him and piedad obviously stayed at the hermes cabin and they were sort of the de-facto counsellors of the claimed kids with no cabin. everyone uses him as a pillow because he makes sleeping safe and cosy.
ericka mulligan (oc of our other friend). daughter of demeter, goddess of harvest. she/her. starts out as the counsellor of cabin 4 until deserting before som. demeter favoured her for being the counsellor but everyone in cabin 4 knows mum will never love you as much as she loves persephone. the "manager" of the team, in a way, she has a schedule and a list for everything. standard demeter kid powers like plant growing, etc. i actually have no idea what her weapon is?? gotta look it up. one-sided crush on luke rip. would have put her hands on the fire for him.
adam rubio (another oc of mine). son of apollo, god of music. he/him. i specify god of music because adam got the music aspect of his dad's attributes, if he sings or plays an instrument he can do all sorts of things ranging from inducing sleep to inducing pain. has no opinion of apollo one way or another. not actually part of the titan army! he stays behind and it's a huge conflict with the others. main weapon is the recurve bow but knows how to use a sword for survival reasons.
allegra anders (npc). daughter of tyche, goddess of fortune. she/her. she and her twin sister rachel were staples in cabin 11, until rachel joined the titan army and left allegra behind. haven't really explored her character in depth but i know she has a special coin she fidgets with a lot.
robin holloway (npc). daughter of hebe, goddess of youth. she/her. another staple of cabin 11, doesn't join the titan army just like allegra. hudson's ex-girlfriend lmao probably the nicest girl you will ever meet. we wanted conflict and also to populate camp with more "older" demigods, that's why these two girls are here.
and we also did stuff like ageing up malcolm pace to be luke's age and now he is the counsellor of cabin 6 because annabeth was literally 12 in tlt. she's co-counsellor due to being a lot more proactive than malcolm. and we also aged up alabaster torrington to be one or two years younger than luke, just because i doubt a bunch of demigods in their 20s would have been like "yeah let that 15yo participate in meetings". we always saw the titan army as more a congregation of young adults than teenagers, basically the demigods who've been here too long and are tired. not featured here are some "name only" background characters like counsellors for other cabins, because we stuck to what annabeth says in tlt about all counsellors except her being of college age. in our take of pjo these counsellors would leave for the army and leave their teenage siblings at the head of the cabins, which would be the counsellors we see throughout pjo
okay with the stage set now let me Actually talk about these guys
@on-the-river-lethe (aka fluffy) and i have done most of the work here. our other friend isn't as insane about pjo lmao. on top of the changes to some ages and whatnot we also did a crucial change regarding luke's quest mates not dying in the garden of the hesperides, instead he is accompanied by piedad and hudson who are both brutally injured by ladon. luke gives up the chance to take the golden apple while ladon is distracted more or less killing his friends to help them. piedad does lowkey die and while passed out receives a premonition of luke with golden eyes. we have an overview of how the quest goes and to add insult to injury hermes sent luke on a fetch quest just to keep him from getting antsy, it wasn't for anything heroic.
things go back to business as usual with all three of them baring the scars of the failed quest, it hits luke the worst. when kronos starts stirring things up in his brain ericka, hudson and piedad don't follow because of kronos but because they believe in luke. luke is their friend, luke is the best of them, luke is the poster-child hero, if anyone can bring change it's luke. ericka and hudson abandon camp before the events of som, piedad sticks around. the premonition is worrying and they're not sure what to do about it. but life at camp without her friends becomes unbearable. she's just another cabin-less demigod in cabin 11, she's a low risk cabin-less demigod in cabin 11. before the events of ttc she makes the switch fully.
because we discovery write a lot of the details i can't say exactly what happens while they are all in the titan army proper. i know piedad doesn't desert camp until the battle in camp at the end of botl, they'd gone back in the summer to be a spy. we know that when luke suggests bailing on everything once he realises kronos used him hudson in particular gets on his case about it (slams luke against a wall) and yells at him about how they risked everything for him, he can't run now, they won't leave every demigod that believes in them to die. we know they go with luke to see may castellan and she grabs piedad by the shoulders and yells about luke's fate to her face. piedad had kept the premonition to themself this whole time and luke, obviously fed up about his fate being kept from him, snaps.
i have written a couple of one-shots for this. i have one about piedad having a conversation with kronos where she bluffs about him getting to the throne room in olympus and luke dying (she was right) and probably has some of my favourite quotes. one of the immediate aftermath of the garden of the hesperides where apollo warns her against telling luke. this monstrosity about adam, the son of apollo mentioned above, who took over my brain and is set after the events of tlo.
(we call the group of luke, ericka, hudson and piedad the "generals" btw.)
the aftermath of everything is a little clearer than the actual events within pjo. ericka, hudson and piedad move to chicago where hudson is from. they stay with hudson's mum for a while before getting their own place. they are pretty much war criminals now, son of magic style, and the olympian council wants them out of the picture. they may not be children of the big 3 dangerous but they did grow in power while being generals of the army. they did not stay to receive any possible pardons or sentence, following the battle of manhattan they simply fled. apollo offers piedad a position as a sibyl, due to her prophetic abilities, it's not a pardon of any kind but it is a bit of protection as harming an oracle is strictly forbidden. they never set foot in camp again.
i like to picture them as a possible pit-stop during tlh. jason, piper and leo would be running from a monster and see this neon sign advertising a sibyl of all things and offering card readings. they go inside and what they find are former titan army soldiers. a guy drinking a large cup of coffee. lots of plants everywhere. and the sibyl is a short scarred enby.
not everything is set in stone and we have much to explore still, like morpheus (hudson's brother) siding with kronos. ericka probably never spoke to demeter ever again, or more like demeter never spoke to her again after she disappointed her so. and just because this is our au and we can do whatever, the generals meet nico and form a bit of a relationship with him. not that we need an excuse apart from "fluffy and i really like nico and we want our ocs to interact with him", but it does fit nico's tendency to just be in on everyone's business. and i think it would be hilarious if he knew about the generals, was friends with them, stayed at their place sometimes, and just never mentioned it at chb.
uh. what else. um... piedad/adam is a thing because i wanted my daughter of a muse oc to have a thing going with a son of apollo. we made malcolm/hudson a thing and it's amazing. i could talk for hours about adam, but right now i'll say he becomes head counsellor of cabin 7 after lee fletcher dies in botl (lee in our version would have been a veteran camper, older than luke).
man this ran long oops. sorry for mostly talking about my oc, it's because they're my oc. i talk even more over on my main blog, about the pjo versions but also the original versions (the worldbuilding is based on dreams).
so, yeah!
thank you for asking <3 sorry you released the flood
#if there are spelling or grammar errors i will deal with them later#these guys take up too much real estate in my brain send help#answered#fic: titan generals#my fic

Tell me what to do!*
Time to start a new project! I'm asking YOU to tell me what it should be! Details below if you care about details (or you can just click something, this is all for fun)
Robin Hood AU: Here's the first fic.
Take on Me, Griddlehark edition: I wish I had the skills for animation, but we'll have to settle for a still image or maybe a 2-frame gif.
SamBucky: I barely got started on these, but for you, I'll take another stab at one of them.
Old art prompts: From this post on my art blog. I got a couple of requests right before I dropped out of fandom for a few years.
Snubes: people don't have soulmates, but their snubes do. Exactly as stupid as it sounds. I get to pick the ship.
Jod: How long would it take to resurrect 10 billion people if you had to do it one at a time? I have a lot of thoughts about the incomprehensibility of big numbers and John Gaius is going to think them for me.
Cathar PWP: Very historical. Very tragic. Very porn, but the porn is all directed masturbation. My brain thinks this is a good idea for some reason.
Other: put something in the comments or tags.
*poll is for entertainment purposes. OP does not promise to do as they are told

TLT 8, 11, 19, 24
Oh, this is gonna be fun.
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
I have a lot of these. One of the most common is Harrowhark being level-headed even under emotional duress. (She isn't even able to PLAY it cool most of the time, let alone KEEP it cool!) But the one that bothers me the most is the one that's Blatantly Wrong by Canon Text: the idea that Gideon is the more slob-leaning one between her and Harrow. Gideon was the one we saw cleaning, even before she thought she was leaving the place forever. Harrow was the one whose bedroom was often described as rumpled. It's Right There. It's canon that Harrow's the one who doesn't care. She probably had servitor constructs clean things for her. She always thinks she has more important things to do! (And, I mean, is she WRONG?)
11. number of fandom-related words you’ve filtered
Surprisingly, none! Though if the fandom was more Gross about it, I'd be filtering harrianthe. Griddleharianthe too, come to think of it... (I don't mind people shipping them and having fun! I just personally do not like thinking about those dynamics.)
19. you’re mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like…
Griddlehark smut. SOME of it, anyways! Definitely not ALL of it...... Listen, my asexuality is a fluid thing and the main reason I like ANY of the smut is because it's... like... 97% of what's on Ao3. But there are a few Explicit Fics there that are actually characterized REALLY well and hit an Emotional note for me. I don't care if it doesn't have a Plot if it has an Emotion.
20. topic that brings up the most rancid discourse
Maybe it's because I've curated my circle Just Right, but I actually haven't seen any discourse (derogatory) in the TLT fandom? People pointing things out, sometimes people disagreeing, and sometimes people are like "It's so obvious!" when I can't see how on earth they've drawn those conclusions. But nobody I've seen has gotten "rancid" about it.
Though I do think the reason I've been blocked by two HUGE TLT fantheory blogs is because I have an identity that it Used to Be Cool to Cyberbully, and I mistook a couple jokes about it as Sincere and put those posts on the blog discussing that aspect of my identity, but that's a discourse topic that's not confined to TLT, AND it's something very personal that I don't want to air in front of 800+ followers. So I'm not sure if it counts. But it exists.
#rhs answered an ask#monstrousgourmandizingcats#rhs tlt#tlt fandom#not putting in the main tag because I'm having fun ranting but I don't want to start discourse and/or get blocked by even MORE <lD;;;

Full TLT series to date thoughts on rereading Harrow the Ninth, chapters 1-5
A probably semi-regular weekly bonus to my reread blog, since sometimes you realize things on reread that just make you need to yell in a full spoiler space.
I love seeing all the ways Harrow's haunting affects her when she can't remember why. The sword, Wake's spirit, literally burning her. The Body, in all her loving glory, who she can remember… mostly, but not entirely why. My poor trauma baby sitting in the bed she made.
The moment where Harrow, or perhaps Gideon, thinks that John can see "the Body" but it's a trick of the eye still gets me though. What would John give to see Alecto? What would he do if he did? Well, I suppose say "good morning" given the end of Nona, but you know what I mean. It's only a matter of time until we find out at least.
And, of course, Alecto appearing with a sword. She understood, on some level, what she made herself for him. A cavalier. She loves him still. I think nobody can be all bad if Alecto loves them. (Which is why Nona's reaction to Ianthe delights me so.)
I don't think we got any confirmation that those five hundred or so people had made it to the Ninth ahead of Nona's finale, did we? Never thought about that discrepancy before, and definitely didn't notice it the only time I read Nona on release day.
I know a LOT of people in the fandom really hate John, think he's an irredeemable villain. And, I can't fault any of the reasons why they jump to that conclusion. Just look at his manipulation of Harrow in chapter 2, the self-effacing, "Nooo, don't kneel to me, if you knew the whole truth you'd probably hit me instead." Still… I want to believe this is going somewhere better than that.
"Number Six had better be dead, because Cyrus won't be coming back." Did the ultramassive black hole keep Cyrus's soul, in such a way that John couldn't retrieve it?
Alecto the spirit's voice, with the "uncanny echo" of other voices… I see so much of the setup for Nona this time around.
I'm still inordinately proud that I figured out the lobotomy and Gideon this early. I don't want to lead anyone too hard if I have first time readers in the posts… but it's COMPLETELY fair to start to make guesses when John stumbles over Harrow saying Ortus instead of Gideon. As soon as G1deon showed up I knew, not the entirety of Dios Apate Major obviously, but I definitely knew that "ORTUS" was who Gideon's mother was yelling at/for.
I'm sure the POV use in Harrow is significant at all times, but chapter 3 puts a wrench in all my theories about how and why. It's third-person, but not in the River-bubble, which is the only other time third-person is used in Harrow. I can't explain WHY this bothers me in the post or even draw too much attention to it but it does, in fact, bother me greatly now that I've noticed it.
I'm still mad in the fun way that Muir threw us such a red herring in "She was the eighty-seventh Nona of her House". The nerve! The cheek! Never stop! <3
The lengths to which Harrow went to avoid killing Gideon, to avoid a world without her in it. Every dang time, y'all. Gets me right in the feels. I am, however, rather annoyed at Gideon for seeing the letter, maybe seeing everything, and still believing Harrow wanted to be rid of her rather than that she couldn't bear to live without her. Oh, kids.

:D :D :D
i feel i should warn you about asking me to start talking about this stuff, because i pretty much don't shut up, but you've already asked, so ...
a couple things that might help contextualize my homestuck/tlt analysis:
firstly, i don't try to pigeonhole characters into a one-to-one relationship. i think there are ways in which it shines through in tlt what aspects of what homestuck characters tazm was fascinated by, but i don't think she was like, putting in parallels to homestuck characters as easter eggs or anything. so for example, yeah lots of people have connected palamedes to sollux, but there are also tons of ways in which palamedes is nothing like sollux, and conversely there's another character (judith) who's parallel to sollux in totally different ways (local 2-themed character has traumatic visions and fears being turned into a living spaceship battery)
secondly, i'm focusing on how tazm saw the homestuck characters, how she interpreted them, what she was fascinated by, as opposed to how the characters were depicted in homestuck alone. so a lot of the time im comparing tlt characters to characters in the serendipity gospels specifically (because of how many parallels that fic has with the locked tomb) and the rest of the time im drawing on tazm's other works (promstuck, veilstuck, etc) and the homestuck opinions and analysis she posted on her blog, rather than looking all the way back at homestuck per se
which is all a lot of words to preface me saying that the reason i talk about palamedes and camilla as sollux and terezi is that 1) the most homestuck thing about them is far and away the fact that they're blatantly a pale relationship and 2) sollux and terezi was tazm's favorite pale relationship to write about
in particular, tazm (and pT, who i include in this analysis because, being tazm's real-life moirail, he undoubtedly played a part in shaping tazm's concept of moirallegiance) liked to write about sollux and terezi having this dynamic where they're both really competent at what they do and trust in each other's competence, which, to be fair, is not totally absent from homestuck itself, e.g.
TA: your 2trength2 are beiing bliind and triickiing people about 2tuff. TA: and ii gue22 beiing generally 2avvy and pretty decent at other 2tuff, but that2 why iim piickiing you and not 2ome other fuckiing 2chlub
(i think this might actually be the first time we see a troll compliment someone? and from sollux!)
and then palamedes and camilla are the realized version of this.
Gideon wavered. "He said to tell you he loved you," she said. "What? No, he didn't." "Okay, no, sorry. He said--he said you knew what to do?" "I do," said Camilla with grim satisfaction, and laid herself back down among the bones.
even though we know now from ntn that he absolutely does love her, he adores her--this is how he expresses it, through absolute trust in her capabilities
all of which is just to say, i don't see camilla as terezi so much as i see camilla/palamedes as terezi/sollux
okay im *sure* this must be me reading too much into things but ... sollux and terezi being confused and heartbroken together over the fact that their friend/crush aradia is cold to them and treats them like a stranger, when actually she's dead ...
vs palamedes and camilla being confused and heartbroken together that their friend/crush dulcinea is cold to them and treats them like a stranger, when actually she's dead
is this anything?
#sorry this is maybe not as helpful as you were hoping#also if youve read the vienna game remember That One Scene? chapter nine? the trust involved? yeah#loquacious lex#tlt

State of the Blog 01.01.23
Taking a quick break from queues for an announcement: Happy New Year, all!
For this state of the blog update, I’ve decided to show my hand a bit and list every one of the many projects I’ve been kicking around. Think of this as a kind of New Year’s Resolution, perhaps? I certainly won’t get to all of these, but I’m making it my goal in the coming year to at least finish a few!
(And yes, if one of these piques your interest, feel free to reply/message/reblog/etc. No guarantees, but it would certainly move it up in priority!)
Multichapter Fanfics
-If the Fifth Found Out: AU in which the Reverend Parents invite a Fifth adept over to exorcize Wake’s revenant. Abigail and Magnus then proceed to discover a war crime, report a war crime, and adopt a war crime in the aftermath. (Or they try to, anyway. It’s complicated, they only manage to get Gideon at first.)
-The Mysterious Curse of Castle Drearburh: Rumor has it that any suitor who seeks the Reverend Daughter’s hand in marriage is cursed to die soon after. Cam and Pal therefore put on their detective hats to investigate… by using negotiations for Camilla’s marriage to Harrowhark as cover! A Canon Divergence/Fake Arranged Marriage/Mystery AU, where determining the divergence event is part of the mystery. Also featuring: my aroace Cam headcanons, and eventual Griddlehark.
-Butterfly Daze: Seemingly typical Griddlehark Modern/College AU with a supernatural twist. But is Kiriona’s new roommate a vampire? A cryptid? A ghost? Or just a normal, if traumatized kid? Turns out the answer is none of the above… and John, the loving father who has always been part of Kiriona’s life, may know more than he’s letting on.
-Puella Magi Nonagesimus 💀 Magica: Crossover with the setting of magical girl series Madoka Magica, and a continuation of this snippet. TL;DR: magical girls as an excuse for a Time Travel AU. The story is split between the present day survivors in the wreckage of Canaan House, where Harrow and Gideon learn the ins and outs of being a magical girl while bodysharing, and Harrow’s wish-induced dreams of the past, where she and Gideon try to forge a better timeline.
Fanfic Oneshots, in order of more silly to more serious
-harrowhark nonagesimus does not like pizza: God orders pizza for the Lyctors on the Mithraeum. (Somehow.) This goes over exactly as well as you’d expect.
-Effervescent: In which Abigail is very confused as 200 dead Ninth children (led by a handful of shitty teens among them) attempt to crash Harrow’s River Bubble AU party.
-Growing Pains: Character study of ~13 year old Harrow, in which Gideon gets her first period and assumes (quite logically) that it must be another of Harrow’s attempts to kill her.
-All That Glitters: Harryanthe Arranged Marriage AU, where Harrow is running the riskiest puppet show of her life on the Third, Ianthe is initially pissed her dad is marrying her off to some weak-willed nun, and Yakety Sax is probably playing in the background as clueless narrator Coronabeth keeps dragging both of them off to various social events.
-Reverend Daughter for a Day: Back in their bodies and on the Ninth for [insert vague handwavy reasons], Harrow proposes that she and Gideon switch places. For one day, Harrow will be the servant and obey any orders Gideon gives her. No refusals, no limits. Naturally, everything that can go wrong, does go wrong.
Misc Projects
-Keep a Consistently Active Tumblr: For whatever reason, actually posting things as opposed to lurking is a major struggle for me, but let’s see how long I can keep this up! I’ve still got a few more analysis rambles on the backburner, and plenty of material for themed queues… the trick will be crossing that last step and actually putting them up.
-Gideon: The Last Bonebender: You know those “if TLT was written by a straight, cis dude, what would be changed?” satire posts? Imagine if instead, Gideon the Ninth was adapted for Hollywood by a straight, cis director. Just how bad could it be? Note: this is the closest project to being finished, but needs reworking to be less cynical and depressing. Oops...
-Gideon the Ninth for D&D 5e: A homebrew module that uses GtN as a jumping off point for a spooky dungeon and murder mystery adventure. Try your hand at the other Lyctor puzzles! Play out a full cavalier tournament between all the Houses! Attempt and probably fail to save Jeannemary and Isaac from their fate! …And yes, someone’s going to have to become a Lyctor at the end. Not happening while the owners of D&D are being jerks, that’s for sure.
-TLT Fanfic Rec Lists: At the moment, I’m up to August 2022 in my chronological journey through the AO3 TLT tag. And once I’ve caught up, I’ll have recs to share! Not sure if it would be better to do longer / broader topic lists, or lots of weird and hyper-specific themes like “Gideon Joins the Cohort AUs” or “Life on the Sixth” or “In Which Ianthe Is There.” Maybe a mix of both?
#the locked tomb#gideon the ninth#harrowhark nonagesimus#gideon nav#griddlehark#my tlt stuff#my ramblings#state of the blog#fanfic#having spectacularly failed to find the time for nanowrimo or yuletide#fingers crossed this will work out better#^^;

Only fools fall for you, only fools.
Only fools do what I do, only fools fall.
Random Baffy thoughts
Hi motherfuckers,
I have no idea what's gotten over me today but I cannot, for the life of me, stop thinking about Baffy. So much so that I made this blog on a valuable Friday that I should be using for productivity. Holy shit.
Keep reading if you wanna hear my spiels.
First, some easy-to-digest headcanons:
Bugs is 26, Daffy is 28
Bugs is bisexual biromantic, Daffy is demisexual biromantic
Bugs is Egogender, Daffy is Nonbinary and will describe his gender as "I have no idea what you're talking about."
Bugs Black, Daffy Black-Desi, specifically Bangladeshi
Daffy knows some broken-ass Bengali
Fools by Troye Sivan is a song that Bugs will sometime listen to and contemplate his romantic choices. LMAO but he will never tell Daffy that-
Bugs listens to a lot of Hip-Hop and old-school Rock. Daffy likes classic music because he thinks it makes him smarter. And older Desi music, like old movie ballads
Bugs has OCD. He's experienced depression before but it doesn't really flare up anymore
Daffy has OCD too. Don't @ me, all my faves get OCD okay? Along with that he has generalized anxiety disorder
Bugs likes reading about History & Physics
I like to think they have a sun/moon thing going on with Bugs being the sun and Daffy being the moon. All my ships have this dynamic, I know.
IDK there's more I can't remember right now...
Bugs' Flags:
Daffy's Flags:
Now, my basic idea for them...
If you notice in TLTS, Bugs doesn't HAVE to let Daffy stay with him, but he does. Though Daffy is basically a freeloader, Bugs never complains. To me, I definitely see this as Bugs being interested in Daffy in a more intimate way than one might think. Bugs has the ability to be roommates/housemates with other people who may have a job or whatever but Bugs doesn't particularly care. Moreover, Bugs is shown to be annoyed of others easily while being very patient with Daffy. You see what I'm talking about?
Meanwhile on the other side, yeah I know TLTS is comedy and everything - but - if we suspend the comedy for a second, I would like to imagine that Daffy actually has issues. Now, this has been supported by official/canon media before. Particularly in Back in Action. Daffy is shown in that show acknowledging that he feels people like Bugs a lot, but don't like him.
So, if we suspend the comedy for just a second, and talk about Daffy's issue, for some goddamn reason I LOVE and absolutely LOVE the idea that Daffy has difficulty understanding why Bugs loves him. And he questions it a lot. And gets upset over it. And Bugs can't really explain it, either, other than just saying "I like you for who you are. You may be a pain in the ass sometimes but that doesn't change the fact that I enjoy your company, I enjoy you."
I also like to imagine that their relationship is nowhere near perfect, sort of similarly to TLTS's approach to Bugs & Lola, where they are somewhat aware of the fact that they're a couple but continue to have miscommunications & difficulty. Except with Bugs & Daffy it's a lot louder, with a lot more accusations, but they make up in the end, because they have a mutual understanding that isn't obvious at first sight, but the more you see them interact, the more you realize they understand each other a lot better than it seems on the outside.
And then comes the lovey-dovey stuff.
Oh the lovey-dovey stuff.
I'll be putting them under a read more, it gets intimate.
So, Bugs is clever. He doesn't really exercise his flirting skills with Lola in TLTS, partially because Lola is more interested in him than he is in her. But in the classic Looney Tunes you can see how good he is with flirting with people of all genders and how easily he catches people off-guard with witty flirting. So, I'd like to imagine that doesn't change with TLTS Bugs, either. He just uses this type of flirting on very specific people. And Daffy is definitely, definitely one of them.
Daffy has a big but fragile ego. It's easy to trip him up with the right words & actions. And as I said, Bugs is smart, he knows Daffy very well. He knows exactly what to say to get to Daffy, and he loves using this as an advantage, especially when there's a fight between them.
There is a LOT of Bugs just using Daffy's words right back at him in a flirty way. Lots of shutting Daffy up with a kiss, lots of intimidating leans from Bugs, and a lot of flustered Daffy who doesn't actually know what to do with real affection and love because he barely knows what that is.
Daffy stuttering, having difficulty making eye-contact, being unable to believe what's happening, blushing, and just falling deeper in love every time Bugs flirts with him. And don't get me wrong, Daffy LOVES it, but he doesn't know how to react or just...how to compute. He short-circuits.
And Bugs enjoys that a lot. He loves seeing Daffy all flustered, confused, seeing his ego disappear and only his vulnerable and emotional self being visible, seeing Daffy being unable to stand on his feet flippers because of how nervous he is, refusing to look Bugs in the eyes until Bugs connects their foreheads...it gets Bugs just as flustered as Daffy is. He's just a lot better at controlling his emotions and not wearing his heart on his sleeves during intimate moments.
CW // Suggestive or NSFW

.
And of course, this dynamic continues onto bed, as well. Bugs loves showring Daffy with compliments as they fuck, only for Daffy to be completely flustered and unable to compose himself throughout the whole thing. Sometimes, if Daffy has the energy, he will grab Bugs, kiss him and tell him to shut the hell up. Which will usually lead to Bugs giggling and throwing a "fine, sure, we'll play it your way" and finally letting Daffy take the occasional lead.
Their physical intimacy will involve nibbling and hickeys from Bugs' side, tiny little bites hidden all over Daffy's body under his fur. And Bugs thinks Daffy gives the best head. Daffy's beak is sensitive and squishy, and easy to tickle.
NSFW over //
Some random intimate stuff:
Daffy really likes PDA but has difficulty expressing that he'd like to do things like holding hands in public. Luckily, Bugs understands and makes his moves bravely.
As they get older, Daffy humbles up and gets a lot better with his emotions and starts being a helpful househusband - cooking, cleaning, helping with chores and just making their home a nice environment. Bugs really appreciates this. Daffy understands later that he just doesn't like the corporate world, which is why he never liked working jobs.
The wedding is huge because Daffy wants it huge and Bugs actually exercises his popularity and riches for their wedding day. Daffy is genuinely so happy that Bugs feels greatly satisfied about his decisions by the end of the wedding. Also Bugs wears that one tux with a skirt wedding outfit. You know the one. Daffy can't decide between a tux and a wedding dress and flips a coin which lands on wedding dress, LMAO. It's his mom's old dress. Yes it is a Sari, if you thought it was a western wedding gown then the L is on you.
They play a lot of Troye Sivan, BTS, Pink Sweat$ & Kehlani on their wedding. Why? Because I said so, that's why.
...and that's about it!
Yeesh!
GO WATCH THE LOONEYTUNES SHOW. IT'S GAY, I PROMISE YOU.

Dallin H. Oaks is the reason I could not remain in the Church.
Dallin H. Oaks is the reason I can't tell my parents that I've been dating a girl for eight months and I'm in love with her and I gave my virginity to her and the other night I dreamed that I proposed to her.
Dallin H. Oaks is the reason my father delights in saying the f-slur and making fun of his trans coworker, but god forbid the gays should marry, god forbid someone should reject the pronouns they were assigned from their very first breath.
Dallin H. fucking Oaks is the reason my parents and grandparents may never show up to my wedding, should I marry my girl, or meet my children, should I choose to have any.
And of course, it's not just Oaks, and if he weren't the emblem of homophobia in the Church, it would be someone else.
But I resent him so much.
I'm sorry—if nothing else, I believe in love. But I cannot love the man who so intensely embodies and perpetuates the pain I've endured for 21 years.
How dare he.

okay i love percy having a crush on luke for so many reasons (the drama of it all... unparalleled) but thinking more about percy having a crush on beckendorf has me comparing luke and beckendorf both as individuals and through their impact on percy and i have a lot of thoughts about it.
@sawasawako phrased it really well in this post: “he looked up to luke bc he was friendly and popular and cool in an environment that percy was new to and wanted to fit into, and he looked up to beckendorf for the same reasons + the fact that he was closer to what percy wanted for himself and envisioned himself to be in the future.” i think both luke and beckendorf are consistent reflections of percy learning what he does and doesn’t want for himself. in tlt, percy wants to be like luke. luke is charismatic and liked and wanted and that’s everything percy has never had a chance to be. luke takes percy under his wing before percy gets claimed and suddenly that feels attainable. it feels like percy has a place to belong. and then percy gets claimed and luke starts Scheming, ultimately betraying and poisoning percy. so much of pjo is percy learning that luke is right for wanting change (we are not getting into Luke Was Right discourse on this blog but i think we all agree that the system doesn’t work as it is) but so wrong with how he goes about it. and i think a criminally under-examined part of that comes through beckendorf.
most of beckendorf and percy’s friendship is implied or discussed in the demigod files, but what we get is so good and there’s so much to unpack. for starters, beckendorf is a constant force of Good at camp. he’s the first (and one of the only) people to accept tyson at the beginning of SoM, coming around on that faster than even percy himself. beckendorf isn’t popular in the sense that he’s charismatic like luke—he’s very much a son of hephaestus who is more comfortable with machines than humans, but he’s at camp often and puts in the work. in tlo he’s referred to as “the anchor for the entire camp.” he’s a respected head of his cabin, he gets the guts to figure things out with silena, and he makes plans to go to nyu in the fall. he even takes care of mrs o leary when percy is gone. beckendorf does his job at camp, has a demigod girlfriend, and still plans to live a full life out in the mortal world. that’s so in line with everything percy is struggling with at the beginning of tlo, and of course that’s right when we lose beckendorf.
beckendorf’s death is also interesting to consider in its ties to percy and luke. beckendorf dies the way percy has expected himself to die at least once per book until now: sacrificing himself for his friends. from the moment percy threw himself off the gateway arch, this has been a consistent theme throughout the original series. beckendorf, who percy looks up to—who manifests what percy wants for himself—dies the way percy has always seen himself dying. given that percy is about to learn about the great prophecy, this is some heavy shit to handle and percy gets ZERO time to process it before he’s thrown into literal war.
beckendorf vs luke is a dynamic i’ve never seen explored but desperately want to. out of our current campers, beckendorf is among the top most likely to have shared experience with luke (outside of annabeth or the hermes cabin). they were both year-round campers and heads of their cabins. they would’ve sat at that ping pong table during counselor meetings and coordinated/faced off during capture the flag for years prior. seeing beckendorf as the anchor of camp after luke betrays them says so much about who he is as a person. there isn’t too much expansion i can do on the dynamic between them without getting into my own headcanons and interpretation, but luke’s determination to change the system by violent means vs beckendorf stepping up and keeping camp grounded in the middle of a war speaks volumes. luke sacrifices the lives of other demigods to make the change he wants, and only sacrifices his own life when there’s no other choice. luke’s first move in support of kronos and rebellion against the gods is to try to kill percy. from the moment beckendorf realizes he’s going to be captured on the princess andromeda, he plans to sacrifice his own life. he gives percy as much time as he can and urges him to leave the moment they make eye contact.
tldr: beckendorf is an incredible character who reflects percy’s own desires as well as the core values of pjo, and also he was hot as hell and percy had a crush on him
#charles beckendorf#percy jackson#luke castellan#pjo#i don’t think i’ve ever posted Real Meta before but i got passionate#beckendorf clarisse and grover are the minor characters i would absolutely go to war for#emma yells
