oh my gosh thank you this is so sweet!! it's the funniest thing because literally every time I want something specific as hell from this show, but lovingly put my clown makeup and assume I'm not going to get it, or that it's a fun prediction but doesn't have to pan out, but then

I either end up getting that exact thing or an even better variant of it??

Like pre-S1 I noticed Rayla's face markings looked like tears, so I hoped we'd see her cry at one point bc I thought it'd be a nice visual parallel? And then 1x09 gave it to me. Going into S2 I hoped for Callum to get over Claudia and for a Rayllum tag, and then [gestures] All That Happened. Even before S3 aired with the "written in the stars" skit I'd noticed the slight dark-lightness theme running through Rayllum's arc and thought it'd be a nice consistency, but I didn't think it'd be a Big Theme, even if as soon as the S4 intro came out I was like "yeah that 'south star' shit is coming back" and well... Gestures to the entire ass "stargazing" clip just between the two of them. The way post-S3 I assumed S4 would be about Callum flying too close to the sun magic wise, being terrified of Aaravos invading this mind, that Aaravos would get out in S5, and that S5 would deal more with Rayla's coin stuff? Ezran as the thematic Witness / Embodiment of Justice? Everything about Claudia's arc?? Chef's kiss

My first post-S3 theory back in 2019 was a "Rayla and Ezran disagree with Callum caught in the middle, leaving to a broyals conflict" wish, gave up on it when TTM hppened because it seemed like we were going in a different direction, campaigned for 2+ years for Callum to do something Fucked Up for Rayla, and like... now I'm going to get both things, presumably that I have desperately wanted/hoped for??

And then there's like, all the things I didn't even know I wanted that TDP just decided to give me anyway?? An Angor Rot villain variant in Kim'Dael? Motherfucking pirates? The game motif becoming a chess motif? Wanting a trio variant sitting around a campfire scene in S4 (that we haven't had since S1) and S4 gave me one and S5's already given me one and there might be More?

I've talked before about how healing TDP has been for me when my prior two fandoms source materials back to back were very disappointing and shoddily put together / majorly side lined their disabled characters / characters of colour (who were also my favourite characters) but like

You ever watch or something, and it feels like it was Made For You, in a way? Like tailor made for like, your interests or preferences or character archetypes, or whatever? That's always how TDP has felt for me in everything it's released and every time it's a beautiful, wonderful experience and a surprise. It would be hard not to be so excited and positive about it, and I cannot wait to continue to be catered to. They never miss!

I've read that interview before, and it didn't really affect me. Before S3, Dacre also laid out his vision of what a happy ending for the character would be. I have a hard time believing he'd argue too much if the Duffers offered a way forward for him. But maybe he would, idk.

I am sick. and tired. of the trope where broken, traumatized boys (and men) who have made mistakes find redemption through death.

Seriously. I've had enough of it to last a lifetime. And I could write a long, scathing, extremely personal, even semi-political essay explaining why.

I'll sum it up like this. In our current climate, we need more hopeful fictional models for how the 'problem' of broken boys can be dealt with. And so far, in mainstream media, I'm seeing fuckin nothing. Over and over, these boys pay for their (FICTIONAL) crimes with their lives, as if the best possible ending they can hope for is to be put down. And I'm ~~~~~done~~~~~ watching it happen.

Just... god. Can we offer them something better? Please?

Ha! I feel yeah, Nonnie. I 100% get it, and it has been on my mind lately (I wonder why 😂😂😂).

And part of me wonders if they're going to start Benophie next season and then finish it in S4, because AOFAG is A LOT to pack into 8 episodes. (I always questioned in my head how they'd make it work.) Thus, letting Polin be the main focus for S3. However, absolutely in no way begrudging the Polin fans out there, I just feel like they're pushing Polin too soon. I think more growth and development still needs to happen.

But hey! The writers may have it all figured out and everything will be good. I'm not in the writers room; I'm just throwing thoughts into the void. I'm putting my faith in the writers. They've been decent so far.

Allow me to rant(ish). So. Season 4. I promise this is not a theory. The saga was announced to the public in July. This was also the first time the cast heard about it, judging by their reaction at Comic-Con. This means that recording has not started yet, due to coronavirus restrictions. With the graphic novels and tabletop game coming within the next year. It is unlikely that season four will come out before at least late 2021. Ugh.

first of all, i love discussions like this, and second, while you are right about the cast hearing about the renewal for the first time in july, keep in mind that in the wizard world panel in may, they said season 4 is coming. however, if i understood jesse right in his stream, he said they haven’t recorded yet together. that could mean that they didn’t start recording at all, or that they did it from their houses, because they all have recording sets there

another thing to keep in mind- usually in animated shows, when the first season comes out, the second is already done or the writing is done (for example: dana the creator of the owl house said that when the first episode air they already finished writing the entire season. the entire 5 seasons of she ra were done when the first season dropped). season 3 dropped in november 2019, but it was finished in late in 2018, so i don’t believe the crew waited 2 years since s3 was done, or a year since it aired, to start writing s4. there’s just no way that they waited a year from 2018 to 2019 doing nothing, not even rough animations

going back to my first point, i’m not sure the cast are even allowed to say they started recording, so they might be withholding info because they have to (tho i don’t think they are)

now, let’s check some of our dates:

i’m obviously not an expert in marketing or whatever, but here’s the thing. they 99% not gonna release a season to close to other releases, because they want the graphic novel, the book, or the game to succeed, and a season might pushed the spotlight away. so, we’re not gonna get s4 in november, or december either. it’s too close to the graphic novel.

now comes the tricky part. december is ending. we’ve been in hiatus for a year and a month now. the next thing is in april. fans are losing interest. your fandom is getting tired and switching to other things. i’m not sure how accurate it is, but i saw a tweet after 3 saying that each episode takes 6 weeks to make, in groups of 3 or 4 people, and there are 3 groups. so, 3 episodes being worked on at the same time. that’s 4.5 months. i’m really skeptical they’re gonna drag us until mid 2021 (remind me to put my clown makeup later)

season 2 was released on february 15. if they’re gonna follow previous dates, i’d say s4 will come out on february/merch. that gives us enough time to relax from the new season and buy the s2 book (don’t).

and the thing i hate the most: this fucking game

what the fuck do you mean prior to s4 release. i really hope they mean the plotline and not the fucking date. but it’s not going to be in may 2021

this answer has no real point, i just hope they know that keeping us in a hiatus for over a year will shatter the fandom in ways that can’t be fixed, because people move on and forget things and i really doubt “casual” fans will remember anything from s3 in june 2021. the best thing we can hope for right now is a a mid winter release, and if we’re really lucky will get s4 in december
