David defines a pure heart as a heart that is free from all falsehood and any kind of deceit; a truthful heart. (Psalm‬ ‭24:3-4‬) James says a pure heart is not a double-minded heart. Hearts that do not stuck to one standard. ("Come close to God [with a contrite heart] and He will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; and purify your [unfaithful] hearts, you double-minded [people].” ‭‭JAMES‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭AMP) In Matthew 22:37, Jesus tells us to love the Lord with all our hearts, soul and mind - not part of it, no double-mindedness, no deceit. *Purity of heart then means having a heart that wills only God's standards, a heart that desires to be like Christ.* Why is it important to have a pure heart? 1. Without a pure heart, it is impossible to see God.( Hebrews‬ ‭12:14‬, Matthew 5:8) 2. Jesus cares about our hearts, what we feed it and what we keep in our hearts. (1 Samuel‬ ‭16:7‬ ‭MSG) 3. Our actual self is a result of what we keep in our hearts. Everything we do stems from what is in our hearts. 4. Our hearts must belong to Christ, He should be the only One occupying it. Christ is pure and His home is pure, so in order to reside in your heart, it must be pure. How can you be pure in heart? 1. God purifies our hearts through faith. The pursuit of purity of heart begins with us and then God, like David, in Psalm 51:10, he asked God to create a clean heart in him. We ask God for it and have faith that He will grant our request. ("and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.”Acts‬ ‭15:9‬ ‭NKJV.) 2. Christ should be our standard for life. We must imitate and strive to be like Him. Prayer: Dear Lord, create in me a clean and pure heart daily. Give me the Grace to have a heart like Jesus. As I reflect on Buju Banton’s Long Walk To Freedom concert in Barbados I pondered about what seeing him live on stage meant to his fans.

The journey of Mark Myrie aka Buju Banton to success was not an easy road. His mother was a vendor & his father a labourer. As the last of 15 children he grew up poor. Music was his escape. His lyrics captured the struggles he faced. The untold stories that many identified with propelled him into our hearts. As a descendant of The Maroons Buju was a champion of the people. He advocated against violence and promoted peace. His destiny was his to rule as he released hit after hit.

I was privileged to see Buju live during Reggae on The Hill in 2009 and he was nothing short of amazing. I remember wearing white then and I decided to wear white again. Why white? White for me represents a new beginning and willingness to embrace your “soul purpose”. I can only imagine how grateful Buju is for his freedom and the opportunity to fulfill his purpose in life.

Like thousands I waited patiently for him to take the stage on Saturday night and I was moved to tears. Jah knows!! The musicians in his band never missed a beat. His musical director is a boss the new arrangements for his mega hits had me hollering. Never have I heard harmonies so powerful and sweet from background vocalists. As for Buju - he was FLAWLESS. His energy throughout never waned. I hung on to every word and I was inspired by his messages of love & unity.

To those who still have negative things to say about others because of their past I say you should not seek to destroy that which you did not build.

We are not victims of the world but masters of our own destiny determined by every decision we make.
