Dog breeders in
When it comes to finding the perfect dog, one of the most important factors to consider is choosing a reputable breeder. A responsible dog breeder ensures the health and well-being of their dogs, follows ethical practices, and works to improve the breed. In the U.S., there are thousands of dog breeders offering a wide range of breeds, but not all breeders are created equal. In this article, we will take a look at some of the key factors to consider when choosing a dog breeder and highlight some respected Dog breeders in the U.S.
What Makes a Responsible Dog Breeder?
A responsible dog breeder should prioritize the health, temperament, and overall welfare of the dogs they breed. They should also be dedicated to improving the breed they specialize in, ensuring that each dog is raised in a loving and healthy environment. When looking for a dog breeder in the U.S., there are several important factors to keep in mind:
Health Testing and Clearances: A good breeder will perform health screenings and testing on their breeding dogs to ensure they are free from genetic conditions common in the breed. For example, they may test for hip dysplasia, heart conditions, or eye problems.
Socialization and Care: Reputable breeders raise puppies in a clean, safe, and nurturing environment. Socialization from a young age is crucial to ensure the puppies grow up to be well-adjusted and confident.
Transparency and Communication: A trustworthy breeder will be open and transparent about the health history of the puppies, the breeding dogs, and the breeding process. They will be happy to answer any questions you have and offer references or testimonials from previous customers.
Breed Knowledge and Experience: A good breeder is knowledgeable about the breed, including their temperament, exercise needs, grooming requirements, and potential health concerns. They should be able to educate you about the breed and guide you in making an informed decision.
Contracts and Guarantees: Many reputable breeders provide a written contract outlining the health guarantees, return policy, and expectations for both the buyer and the breeder. This helps ensure that you are committed to providing a loving home for the puppy.
Registered Breeder: Look for breeders who are members of reputable breed organizations, such as the American Kennel Club (AKC). These organizations set ethical breeding standards and can be a good indicator of a breeder’s professionalism.
Finding Dog Breeders in the U.S.
In the U.S., there are numerous websites, directories, and resources where you can search for reputable dog breeders. The American Kennel Club (AKC) has a breeder directory that lists AKC-registered breeders across the country, sorted by breed. Pets & Fitness (Infographic)
Pets & Fitness (Infographic)
So I am not sure how many of you have pets, particularly dogs, but I love them! I had @puppyspot contact me via email to share how dogs can be great to add to your workouts. I don’t have any pets as of yet, but my family does (a rat terrier) and while it would be awesome if the little thing would allow me to hold him long enough to do strength workouts, he makes for a great running partner and

Love your dog and love your health
Check out my new post - Love your dog and Love your Health :)

Loving your dog may have more health benefits than you think. A dog is not only a pet, but a loving animal that can improve your health and can even help with occupational therapy. I absolutely love my Old English Sheepdog. She’s called Millie and can really tell when I’m feeling a little down. Not only that but she relaxes me after a hard day at work and can even tell when I’m under the weather.

When the PuppySpot reached out to me and asked me to help spread their message including holiday safety tips and risks, as an animal lover, I felt as though I had a responsibility to help their cause.  Sure, I’m not currently a pet owner, nor have I been for several years.  But the strangest thing happened as I was reading their email asking for my assistance.  The Sarah McLachlan song “Angel” instantly played in my head.  I mean, if that doesn’t pull at your little paw-strings then you probably aren’t even living.  And I’m not afraid to admit, that I love animals more than most humans – dogs in particular.
So in addition to some great holiday pet safety tips, I thought this would be a good opportunity to share with you a little bit about our first DOGhter, Stella.  As I mentioned above, we are not currently pet owners, and that’s because for a while we were just in too much pain from the loss of our beloved Stella. Oh, and to be honest, life has just gotten in the way of my doggie dreams.  However, I really feel like in the next year or so we will probably start our search for our next fur baby.  And I won’t hesitate to use the PuppySpot when we are ready.  If you are not familiar with the PuppySpot, they are a great resource for finding reputable breeders.  They have been featured on well-known media outlets such as Good Morning America and Fox & Friends.  But before I go any further and share a bit about my Stella girl, check out the helpful graphic below regarding holiday pet safety tips.
Stella, or her AKC registered name Astrophel Stella, was the apple of our eye.  She was a tenacious and quirky little (but big in personality) Scottish Terrier.  We got Stella when she was 9 weeks old (born 10/12/03), from a breeder in NY.  As we drove back to our home in Southern NJ, somewhere in the Catskill Mountains Stella became carsick.  Her puppy puke smelled like a pile
..but she was a trooper nonetheless.  We finally got her home, and she was a complete angel, albeit probably because she was disoriented from the car journey.  The next day, was a completely different story.  Stella was no longer disoriented and I would say – felt more like what we would soon come to find out – her spunky self.  At one point in the puppy training process, I remember crying and asking my now-husband if we had made a mistake, as she was a handful.  And we were so young ourselves.
Jason cleaning up a puppy-accident.  Poo happens.
From that day on, I never questioned our decision to bring Stella into our lives.  Because not only did she bring us so much joy and love – it was apparent that she belonged with us – as a member of our small family.  Sure it wasn’t easy, but after some perseverance and learning curves, we all made it.  And boy did she make our lives brighter.
Stella’s first time in the snow!
Stella went on with us through this journey called life, we got married, bought our first house, and even had our first child, all with Stella.  She was a good girl, loved to sleep in our bed, her favorite toy was any empty plastic water bottle (supervised of course).  She liked the noise it made.  She always had tons of energy, and being the goofy dog that she was, she would run around with her bottom tucked under her during one of her energy bursts.  Not only did Stella have tons of energy, she also had a lot to say.  About EVERYTHING.  She was a VERY vocal dog, and would let us know when she was annoyed by yelling at us and maybe even nipping us.  She also let us know she loved us by giving us tons of kisses, and howling “I love you”.  I’m not exaggerating, she could say I love you.  To say she was special, would be an understatement.
Unfortunately in Stella’s seventh year of life, we discovered that she had Lymphoma.  After a tough journey with Doggie-Chemo, our girl passed away one month (to the day) before her eighth birthday.  A day that neither my husband or I will ever forget.  I know not everyone feels this way about their pets, but Stella was honestly no less than a family member.  Our daughter.  So when we lost her on that awful day in September, we lost a piece of ourselves with her.  Even so, I would do it all over again, just to experience the love she showed us during her short life.
This story was not meant to sadden you, but to remind you that our pet family members are precious.  They deserve every ounce of care and love that we can give them.  That includes keeping them safe, all of the time, but especially during the holidays when we can get caught up and distracted. We’ve all been there.
I want to give a special thanks to the PuppySpot for inspiring and encouraging me to share a holiday Stella tribute. You can tell that they really care about pets, and I can definitely appreciate the message they are trying to convey. I hope you and your furry friends have a safe and happy holiday!
